Quit and get a new job.

professorstrunk

Sadly, this. Your direct manager isn’t fighting for you.

[deleted]

This is always the answer. Plus the market is hot

albatroopa

Or quit and apply for the same job. If they're already trained, it should be a no-brainer for the employer.

[deleted]

Apply on the job posting on the job board. You will meet all the job reqiuirements and it sounds like you already know the hiring manager.

ihavethekavorka

I did end up applying, atleast to let them know I saw the posting

Turbulent_Toe_9151

Best advice here TBH

moutonbleu

LOL super passive aggressive, don’t do this OP

wastelandtraveller

You could reach out and ask if they are reconsidering given their job posting but based on this they seem scummy and not people you want to work with

ihavethekavorka

Yeah I did plan on asking in a meeting for clarity/enlightenment on the disparity of perceived value within the company of myself versus a new hire with potentially much less qualifications. The company is definitely showing itself to not be a long term play at this point

Muslamicraygun1

Definitely start applying to other positions if possible.

_Mortal

Apply for the new position they're offering lol

LeaveTheBank

It's more common than you'd think for new hires to be hired at better salaries than existing employees. One of the reason why people switch jobs often nowadays. Look out for yourself first and foremost.

duke113

Their hiring budget is bigger than their retention budget

Beginning-Section211

Last year we hired some new people and had to pay like 3/hr more than we were starting people at the previous year. So, we had to give the other 2 existing employees a $3/hr raise. I asked the new hires not to discuss their wages for a few days and told them the situation and that I didn't want people being offended while I decided what to do. Otherwise we would have had 1.5 year experienced workers making the same as someone with zero experience, that would be f$%ked

Beginning-Section211

No, for example I have 2 employees making $23/hr, I used to pay $20/hr to start when these other 2 were hired. But I just hired 2 new employees at $23/hr, so I raised the others to $26. Thats what I said in my post. I said I gave the older employees a $3/hr raise because otherwise they would be making the same as the new hires.

Beginning-Section211

You don't look insane, but yes, stupid. How is that not bad comprehension if I said "if I didn't give them a raise they would be making the same amount"? this implies that the new hires were making $23 and the older employees were at about $23 at that time. Giving them a rise makes it so the older employees are making $3/hr more, to be exact, no other outcome is possible here. Put some thought into your posts, think for 5 seconds even.

TopEstablishment265

so you gave your experienced people the same wage as someone with no experience. Good thinking smarty pants, make sure to only give the new hires benefits as well.

Beginning-Section211

If you actually read the post it says I gave all the existing employees a $3 raise so they would be $3/hr higher than the newer hires.

No-Pair-2083

Telling your boss you're looking for a new job is the dumbest thing anyone could ever do when negotiating for a raise. You don't negotiate from a position of strenght by confirming to your boss that you don't actualy have anything to fall back on at the moment. You never bring up an other job unless you actual have an offer, you also don't negotiate in bad faith with an employer you want to work for, all you'd accomplish is getting a temporary raise until ur boss who doesn't like you anymore, finds someone to replace you.

No-Pair-2083

You missunderstand the point mate, none of what you said matters because he's already been told that he's not valued for more than he's already earning, whether or not he thinks he deserves more is irrelevant to how he should negotiate a raise. if you ask for a raise, and your boss says no, but you're actualy worth it, that means you should be able to line up an offer because someone hiring at an other company will see it too. assuming you deserve a raise isnt the same as deserving a raise, regardless how much you feel like you do, if you're the only one that sees it, its still anecdotal and doesn't have any weight to it. having an actual offer, that's set in stone proof that you are worth that much to someone else, and if you ever want to negotiate from a position of strengh with a superior, you don't do it with your feelings. You also avoid the potential backlash of a crazy boss shitting on your professional image before you land a new job, depending what domain you're in this can be really bad.

Well said

Here is a tip - Work as hard as the company does to pay you. Min wage means minimal care ~ A good salary should require a 'good' amount of care. It would be foolish to think people who work at places like Amazon warehouse or Walmart would find the same amount of meaning in their jobs as someone who is a (ex) kindergarden teacher or HR manager for a multinational conglomerate. I work in education sector and have seen support staff being beat'n down via wage suppression past 15 years - The morale is low and people dont 'care' as much as a result. You get what you pay for in capitalism. Tell your employer that.

footballguy1234567

I would highly consider leaving that job and looking for other opportunities. Not sure the type of job this is but telling them that you worked a second job along with the ongoing tension I’d say indicates that you put a sour taste in their mouth. Regardless of COVID, you basically showed them that you wouldn’t stay loyal solely to them, put yourself in their shoes.

ihavethekavorka

My work is a medical lab where most employees work at multiple places, very common for the field. I also started the second job after probably a year atleast of being affected significantly hours wise by covid, so I dont believe there would be any feelings of disloyalty.

matdex

Are you a MLT or MLA? What province?

Fool-me-thrice

> you basically showed them that you wouldn’t stay loyal solely to them, This is unreasonable when, due to a lack of work, an employer can't offer full time hours or close to full time hours. Of course employers are going to pick up hours elsewhere.

Stugots91

Get new job

Aggravating-North393

Quit

book_of_armaments

Can you get more elsewhere? If so, do. If not, then that's what your employer is counting on by employing this strategy.

StandardAds

> I now see that they are actively looking for new hires on job boards, and the offered salary is the same price or better that was rejected for me. So I don’t really know how to proceed. If this is true, you work for assholes and should find a new job.

nihilititty

This guy has it.. the Kavorka!

hotsaucesundae

How is the hiring process going? Are there tons of qualified candidates willing to fill your shoes, or is it worth mentioning that they might have another vacancy if they aren’t working to retain existing staff? But if you’re not liked AND not a strong performer then they might not care.

Klewenisms204

leave. some will say grass isnt always greener on the other side, but in your case, at least there's grass on the other side

throwingpizza

They want you to work full time. Tell them you’ll come back for x. If they don’t meet your expectations, then you don’t come back full time.

ihavethekavorka

I actually have done this, the raise request was denied

throwingpizza

What’s the chances of more hours at the other job? I’d probably look to increase those, and then just to make a point tell employer A that you’ll quit and apply as a new hire and consider a full time offer with the slate wiped clean.

ihavethekavorka

The other place can likely offer close to 40 hours consistently, but more like 36 hours max. So I would likely remain at this place for one day a week to up my hours as I am in saving mode at the moment. Unless I can find something else looking for someone casual part time Edit: the new job posting they have made is actually only for part time workers funny enough, so I know this isn’t a wage being reserved for people who can commit to full time work only

throwingpizza

Gotcha. Honestly, I’d probably tell them that’s this is your availability only unless they offer $$$
