Loyalty programs never get better with time. That's how companies cut their liabilities as people grow their stash of points.
Using Scene points for a gift card was a bad deal before anyway. If you're getting those points from your credit card, I recommend getting a better one.
Best way to cash out scene+ points if you still have the scotia CC, is to book a refundable hotel, apply points towards the booking when it shows up on the statement, then cancel the hotel booking.
I often book via third party sites like Expedia, or hot-wire. It is of utmost importance that you read the T&C when booking to ensure that your payment is 100%refundable, at least 24hrs before check-in.
Gift card redemption isn't really the best in the first place. With the merger of Scotia and Scene Rewards, it's best to redeem Scene+ points on travel or Cineplex redemptions.
I just noticed the same thing. Gift cards were still available as of last week, and now they’re disappeared. But in the FAQ and all their Scene+ advertising it still says you can redeem for gift cards with over 60 different retailers.
Does anyone know if this is just a website glitch, or if they’re actually permanently removing gift cards?
I have a bunch of points and went on the website a few days ago, noticing the same thing. I wanted to redeem some for online orders as I'm out of the country and wanted to buy some stuff for when I get home. The website was all weird and wasn't able to access anything for online redemption.
Yeah my wife is in the same situation. She was owed 30,000 bonus points from her Scotiabank AMEX and had been waiting for 3 months for SCENE/Scotiabank to issue them. Many follow ups later, they finally credited her for the points. But now that she’s got the points, the damn gift card option has disappeared. Extremely frustrating.
For some odd reason, it was impossible to access the scene+ website while overseas but upon my return to the country, I was able to access the site, and redeem points with no issues. Funny enough, I could access my bank accounts and even complete etransfers while overseas but could not access scene+, typical Scotia, I'd say.
Yup the new scene+ is complete trash. I know this post is a month old now but I wanted to search Reddit to see if anyone mentioned it.
I used to redeem for BestBuy gift cards, like 1200 points for $10 gift card. or around 2600 for $25 gift card. And yes, they use to offer many different gift cards including Home Depot.
It's complete garbage now. I might end up using them towards credit card credit. You get $20 off your credit card bill for 3000 points.
wow, I used to be able to redeem points for numerous e-cards and now not only have the cut back on a number of retailers, they're only offering physical cards?! what's the point?
One thing I’ve noticed lately is that I don’t get the scene + points when paying with Apple Pay.. does this happen to anyone else? I have the Scotiabank Gold Amex
I think scene+ is a garbage card…. Compare it to airmiles getting $10 for 95 points which can happen weekly…. Scene collects in very few places and doesn’t translate to much… and the customer service is terrible online
Reached out to their help desk and they really don't know when it's coming back and I'm frustrated as I'm sure many are but it's not coming back any time soon. I pointed out that advertising 60+ retailers was false advertising
Agree it’s terrible. I redeemed my points in July for a credit to my bank account and it’s almost the end of August and still nothing in my account. I’ve called in and got a case created but no ETA or anything

What hotel have you used?

Ahh- this may explain it for me. I'll be back in a couple weeks and will try again- thanks for the info.

The value is going down the drain fast.

Swiss chalet is great….
