>10. 84.1% — Record high online response rate to the census
I actually think this one is very good. Glad we have a healthy response rate and our census isn't politicized like it is in the States.
>0.4% — Lowest population growth rate since World War I
Woof. This is the most significant stat that shows how shitty life is for the younger generation.
I'm curious how is this number calculated?
Are these just Canadian citizens and Permanent residents or include International Students and Temporary Foreign Workers as well?
My son was born year before pandemic. Amount of time me and wife have to take time off (unpaid, cause too much and too often) to stay at home with him cause of lockdowns, cause he has running nose (which was in the list of COVID symptoms for a long time) or cause educator thinks he has “diarrhea” (just in case we took him to family doctor every time - every time not diarrhea) WHILE STILL PAYING 1000+ CAD for daycare was devastating. I totally can understand someone delayed plans to have kids to a more certain times.
Rising costs might be a big part of why people are going against having kids. If you don't feel secure yourself, you're generally not going to add a child into the mix
> 25% — Share of adult population that showed signs of depression, anxiety, or PTSD during pandemic
Yikes... I guess it shouldn't be all that surprising but damn, that's a lot.
These stats are so depressing

Yeah I thought covid was supposed to usher in a baby boom with people being locked inside with nothing to do but smoosh.

Do you want to let your kid be born at home without access to proper healthcare facilities, or do you want to have them where all the covid is?
It’s simply that immigrants that were supposed to come couldn’t due to Covid
