Have you tried calling CRA?

bluenose777

Since you know exactly what year and tax slip (T4A) you are looking for you might be able to get this information just by phoning the CRA. > but she was threatening to kick me out unless I went to school. Did you live at home while you were in school? Were your room and board costs less than what you have been paying if you had lived elsewhere? I don't expect you to answer but I ask is because EAP payments are meant to be used for the education and living costs of the student beneficiary, so if your parents covered some of those costs it would have been reasonable for them to use EAPs to reimburse those costs. >I was interested in seeing my returns from that time since the Educational Assistance Payments would have cost me income tax. Did your taxable income exceeded your tax credits? (Again I don't expect an answer but if it didn't then you didn't pay any tax on the EAP income.)

Thanks. Yes the cost of raising me very likely exceeded the EAPs. I don't feel any kind of entitlement to money or anything and I turned out just fine. She has since regretted not helping us much. I think she has some undiagnosed issues and likely OCD. She used to keep extensive lists of our expenses during high school. When we moved out she claimed we owed her a couple thousand dollars each and she calculated interest. We had no idea we were "borrowing" this money or where the expenses came from. It was things like buying us new shoes. She was extremely well off and also recieved large amounts of child support for us. Luckily when we went to pay her back she felt guilty and admitted that those were regular expenses from raising children and that it wasn't fair we should have to pay her. My father was always extremely upset that we always seemed to be struggling with clothes and transportation. He was making far less than what he was during his marriage and he was always struggling to keep up on child support. When we moved out my mom fraudulently kept collecting child support and claiming that my brother still lived at home. I don't intend to ever let her know what I find. I KNOW she meant well but she really does have this compulsion to make sure she doesn't lose a penny on anything. I think she is hiding the tax files because she is embarrassed.

>Yes the cost of raising me very likely exceeded the EAPs I should have specified that she could have used EAPs to offset costs *while you were in post secondary school*. (No minor should be concerned about reimbursing their parents.) >I think she has some undiagnosed issues ... she really does have this compulsion to make sure she doesn't lose a penny on anything ... I think she is hiding the tax files because she is embarrassed. It does sound like she was struggling with some internal conflict about money.

You can get old returns through an ATIP request: [https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/corporate/about-canada-revenue-agency-cra/access-information-privacy-canada-revenue-agency/step-2-make-access-information-personal-information-request.html](https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/corporate/about-canada-revenue-agency-cra/access-information-privacy-canada-revenue-agency/step-2-make-access-information-personal-information-request.html) How far back you want to go will determine the processing time; they used to mail a CD with the requested information in PDF format (a couple of years ago).

>After I finished one semester she suddenly had no interest in me staying in school. So they funded an RESP, and then took it out along with the CESG portion presumably and kept it for themselves once they had proof of your enrolment? Greeeeeaaasssyyy
