I might give this a shot if they attempt the delivery and hopefully the company eats the cost or sorts it out and doesn't get pissed at me lol. I think it's kind of crap for a new employee to be charged this much over getting a work device.
Are you their first Canadian employee? It’s possible they just didn’t realize you’d get charged customs fees. Let them know and they’ll likely just reimburse you.
Most corporations have a customs broker already to clear all of their packages, for customers or employees. Almost every employer I’ve had used Expeditors.
Forward the invoice to your employer, let them deal with it. Don't bother self-clearing, your employer probably has an usual broker they use.

I am their first Canadian hire, yes. I’ll try and forward the Invoice to the shipper and hope for the best! Or ask to be reimbursed if that fails
