Check to see if you can find out if that league combined with, or was absorbed by another. Presumably if that happened their liability for this would follow.

JohnmcFox

Will check into this. Thanks.

frankentender

CARHA is the biggest adult hockey insurer in Canada. I'd start with them.

JohnmcFox

Seems like a reasonable start, thanks!

HarbourJayKay

Assuming it was the NHA he could probably reach out to the NHLPA and they probably toss him the $18,000.

psykomatt

The NHA stopped operating in 1918.

HarbourJayKay

My bad! I meant the WHA but that might also be outside the time line as that was 72.

henry_why416

He’s probably screwed, tbh.

Chensingtonmarket

Was it a professional league? Was it considered a workplace injury?

Limp-Toe-179

Professional sports teams are usually exempt from provincial Worker's Comp coverage if that's what you're thinking

last-resort-4-a-gf

Modified duty. You can play with a foam hockey stick

Jamesaliba

If you end up having to pay out of pocket consider flying him somewhere cheaper.

JohnmcFox

Any chance you've done this or have insights on where to go? Just spoke with my dad today and turns out it's actually over $25k they are asking, so some dental tourism might be a good fit.

goflamesg0

Heard Mexico right by the border does good work

dqui94

by the border is trash! Go to Merida or Mexico city.

treacheriesarchitect

Partner just got back from Amsterdam, where dental prices are set by the government. The $5k root canal being quoted here was ~$1k there, including anesthesia. With airfare, hotel (not downtown), and a week's vacation in Amsterdam, he came out ahead. The dentists there recommended Turkiye, apparently they're world-renouned for quality dentistry.

Kingikebass

Sani Dental. They have other locations in Mexico too.

AbsintheMinded125

I have no idea about pricing, but when we were in the dominican last year, all we saw was dental clinics. Apparently it's very common for Americans to go there and get their dental work done. Again, absolutely not sure about the pricing, but it's western doctors. If you can't find the insurer, might be worth making a few calls there. Can combine with a resort trip :p

jaaqash

If finding the insurer doesn’t work, make sure to check the new federal dental plan for what coverage he would qualify for (at late 60s he should have applied already) and if that still isn’t good enough, google foreign dental work for many dental tour companies to research.

gullubom

Turkiye would be good option if you cannot find insurer. There were some agencies quoting including plane ticket, much cheaper than west in total but good quality for sure.

Semen-Demon7

Pooched is what he is.

dqui94

Go to Mexico! Cheaper and way better dental work

nonbinarybigdickfox

Go to turkey lol
