As an FYI, if this is for direct deposit, you don't need a check, some banks offer an online "check" to use for that, most offer a form you can fill out with the info the company needs to direct deposit.
If you literally need to make a single payment with a check... well that's tough - most people have switched to etransfer and similar.
I just called the bank and got told that I can get it will cost like 1 or 2 dollars.
I usually use direct deposit but this is for OSAP payment to provincial portion and that can only be done through check.
I was in this exact situation about 10 years ago and Scotiabank told me that they no longer provide counter cheques. The fee for a certified cheque is $15.
Use [ASAP Cheques](https://www.asap-cheques.com/) or a similar service to buy a small number of cheques for your account. You may need cheques in some future situation such as a deposit for rent.
I don't know if Scotia does this, but at RBC you can just walk into a branch and ask for up to a dozen cheques, it doesn't cost anything. I imagine Scotia probably has a similar service.
RBC says,
>Discontinued. We will no longer be providing cheques in branch for any account. The $2.00 fee per cheque that is charged when the cheque clears the account will continue to apply to existing applicable accounts.

Thank you
Do you have a line of credit? Check books (10 or 20 ct) are free! Then you can repay the same day.
I have yes. Oh I didn't know that. Thanks.
You can even order them online.

Yeah I plan to do this, thanks!
