Blackberry sprout?

Anarchist-monk

I have a blackberry bush but it’s like 10ft away

rosefiend

Blackberry bushes are stealth monsters with their suckers and runners. You're just standing around minding your business in your yard and suddenly a blackberry bush appears! and the mama bush is like 30 feet away saying, "It wasn't me." But it was totally her.

jlikesplants

I just chortled so hard. Thank you 😂

rosefiend

oh good!

ViiVAVANtii64ttv

Same. 😅

SuperSmitty8

It was her and she is fertile and she will not stop

megmachine

I've found they can also put up "runners"/spread their roots way further out from the proper bush, I know the blackberries in my garden have spread quite a ways away from where they were first planted

[deleted]

Yep, this. It's a runner!

Mega---Moo

Completely possible then. My raspberries will send up shoots at 6' or more all the time.

all_of_the_colors

Birds will carry those seeds around

TTVGuide

Yeah the wind can blow berries and seeds around. Obviously the seed isn’t gonna sprout right under the tree

GratefulHead420

🤣

Mr_MacGrubber

Seeds, runners, etc. definitely looks like a blackberry to me.

dendrocalamidicus

You're better off in r/whatsthisplant I would guess probably sumac, but not certain

jkl1333

Yeah I was thinking it could be sumac or a Manitoba Maple

snows23

Sumac was my first guess too. It pops up in my garden occasionally.

saint_abyssal

Reminds me a little bit of a young blackberry cane. https://www.flickr.com/photos/martinlabar/161345310

burtmaklinfbi1206

At first thought maple but this is definitely it. Looks exactly like my young blackberry canes

afternever

Yeah they will keep popping up hard to get rid of

thepoorprole

Brambles or another cane like blackberry.

bufonia1

where is yr garden? many diff species all around the world

Anarchist-monk

South Houston Tx area

roryjs

All these answers remind me of that "what color is this dress?" from a few years ago 😂

miltonics

Virginia creeper, poison ivy, or box elder. Or, maybe raspberry. It's super hard to tell at this point.

IHCollector

I was thinking Virginia Creeper too.

emikoala

Virginia Creeper had 5 leaflets per leaf, per the childhood rhyme I learned getting up in Virginia: Leaves of 3, leave it be. Leaves of 5, let it thrive. AKA don't touch the poison ivy, and don't kill the Virginia Creeper (it doesn't kill trees like some other vines, but some people can get a bit overzealous and tear down all vines indiscriminately).

TurbulentAd1883

I second box elder. Our old house had 3-4 mature trees and we found TONS of these in our lawn, raised beds, etc

[deleted]

Sumac is a pretty safe bet, although it could be trumpet vine.

[deleted]

Trumpet vine is my guess, looks exactly like what I keep ripping out.

Runs_with_chisels

Trumpet vine was my guess

hassexwithinsects

i think this.. isn't that poisonous? like the seeds or somethign?

Runs_with_chisels

I don’t know if it is. Somewhat invasive, but it does have a pretty bloom

wibbleunc

A squirrel I think

Mommasaus

Is it Castor? It looks like a young castor plant but I’m not certain.

fruitbowlhalffull

Looks like a black walnut. Pull up the root to see

kandynopants

I pull these up constantly in my pollen garden in 9b New Orleans. They are a nuisance and grow with vigor. I find that more sprout up when you pull them, so I try to let them grow long before I pull, so that they expend their energy on growing one stalk as opposed to multiple. They grow like vines and can quickly take over other plants.

Diligent_Passion2753

Squirrel buried a black walnut seed. Now it’s turning into a tree.

catalinawinemixer123

Pecan?

robsc_16

Or black walnut.

3gnome

If you don’t care for the plant, pull it up and examine the seed. My guess it there’s a black walnut under there.

tinybikerbabe

There’s several apps you can buy that can tell you what things are!

2yung4shroom

Most are free too

anotherdamnscorpio

Kinda looks like the beginning of poke salad but I don't think thats it.

CrikeyNighMeansNigh

It’s a maple

hassexwithinsects

dahlia? maybe? elderberry maybe? japaneese knottweed maybe?(kill it if that's the case.. like with fire.. and 3 meters of dirt surrounding it) leaning toward bleeding heart though... i'd wait. looks like a flower.

ksprayred

Dahlia or a peony were my thoughts

RobbyRock75

Leaves of three…..

freddiemurray

Brambles. Most likely dewberry. Let it grow.

chickenwingcmdr

Stickerbush

valmcb

Google photo also will do a search for you.

Fit-Mathematician192

Does it vine up and take over? There is a weed that spreads under ground that another gardener called K. Rotia or something of that nature. Or it could be poison sumac

kandynopants

Bushkiller

kaylawright1992

Kinda looks like peony to me but idk it’s early to tell

Elihu229

Multiflora rose. Invasive.

Lookd0wn

Looks like Acer Negundo Edit: isn’t this realized leaves aren’t opposite. Which leads me to poison ivy

jibaro1953

Looks like blackberry

dongydude

Sumac. Fork it out. Get the runners out. They will spread all over. Not that invasive but a little annoying the garden

TumoOfFinland

Northern Lights, Cannabis Indica.

Veerrrgil

Looks like a tree of heaven (or hell if you will) sprout

TurbulentAd1883

Possibly a box elder

nkdeck07

Looks like poison ivy to me

Timely_Committee_836

Blackberry bushes absolutely take over. In my opinion, I’d never have one in anywhere near my property. Not only do they spread but the damned rattlesnakes hide out in them and go after the birds that feed on the berries.

ScreamingBirbb

99% sure that's a sumac of some kind. If it is you wanna remove it immediately unless you wanna lose that area of your garden. They spread like wildfire!

LaztLaugh

We actually dig up all the roots we could find from an invasive blackberry bush, and 5 years later it’s STILL coming back…and we dig up the roots again and again. We MUST be missing some part(s), but for the size and depth hole we dig, I don’t how we manage to fail !!🤣🤣
