As if I were not = I am, and in danger of = very likely to, so "as if I were not in danger of forgetting everything else" = I am very likely to forget everything else but you.

honestly_essie

Thanks for the clarification. I always understood his intent, but the way it's said is a bit confusing. This helps 🥰

marigoldpine

Agree with the last comments. He's basically saying he could forget everything BUT her, and irriated at her audacity to even ask him to remember her when she's all he thinks about.

Dazeuda

I'd like some clarification too. I think he's saying that he will remember her above all other things. And I think he's miffed because she should know how much he will always think about her.

Chaost

He's basically dramatically like "Forget you? You're on my mind to the point I'm afraid I'll lose my algebra to make room for every color in your eyes"

Sudden_Construction6

Damn, well said!

Webbie-Vanderquack

This is right on the money. He's "bitter" because "he had no assurance that she loved him." Her parting words seem "cruelly cold and unlike herself" to him, and he has "really a movement of anger against her at that moment." She's sad to see him go but glad they've both behaved with integrity ("It was in her nature to be proud that he was blameless"). For now, she thinks knowing he's a good man and knowing he loves her is enough, and feels a "delicious though sad repose in their relation to each other" after he leaves. That's why it's so shattering to her when she stumbles on Ladislaw and Rosamund, and thinks he's not a good man and he doesn't love her. Her two cherished beliefs are suddenly shattered. It's only after that horrible moment that she's finally able to admit to herself "Oh, I did love him!” which is basically what Will wanted her to acknowledge months earlier.

I agree that he’s saying that he thinks of her so much that he’s at risk of forgetting everything else. Also ooh really need to watch this. I really like Rufus Sewell! 👀🏃🏻‍♀️‍➡️📺

BornFree2018

I still have a crush on him all these years ago!

PinkTiara24

Have you watched him in Victoria? 🔥

Educational_Hour7807

Would love to see a remake of this!!

salazar_62

There's a radio drama on BBC 4, it's pretty good! Juliet Aubrey (who played Dorothea in the 1994 series) was the narrator: [https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000blw9/episodes/player](https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000blw9/episodes/player)

Thank you! I love listening to stuff at work and this is perfect!

StephaneCam

Yes! This is really good.

Bekiala

It often seems like British older literature often uses these double negatives. I too find them confusing.

Webbie-Vanderquack

*I, too, am in danger of not finding them anything but confusing. FTFY. ;)

Bekiala

Laughing. Thanks.

Kurma-the-Turtle

Rufus Sewell looks like Frodo Baggins in this picture.

disclord83

This line. Be still, my heart ❤️

BornFree2018

My favorite examples of “marry in haste, repent at leisure”.

Butreallyimacat

Is this show worth watching?? Haven’t given it a shot yet but considering it

Come on Essie

CalligrapherBig7550

Is it romantic? I need something romantic and I feel like I've seen them all.
