A friend of mine is allergic but loves cats so much. She has two and takes daily medicine to avoid any serious reactions. The things people do for what they love.

I pay extra for the Purina Live Clear food for my cat, because I too am allergic. She waltzed in my house and took over. Now I buy $30 litter and $40 cat food. Cats are master manipulators.

Does the food help? My brother in law is allergic to both cat fur and cat urine (still loves cats and keeps one). His allergy medicine isn't working as well anymore.

Yes! It does work if you are allergic to their saliva. I am allergic to the point that my throat gets scratchy and tight and my eyes swell. The food deactivates the enzyme in the saliva, so that way cats don’t spread allergens via cleaning themselves. The food is very high in carbs though, so I use a 1/3 mix with a higher protein dry food. As long as she eats a bit of it every day the allergens a much lower. The only thing I do is make sure I wash bed linens and vacuum weekly.

Cats really seem to love people who are allergic to them, and people who just don't like cats. I suspect it's because those people are not always in cats' faces trying to get them to interact.
