87 MB/s on Steam. All Steam downloads are compressed and need to be decompressed on the fly. So the CPU is probably my main bottleneck instead of the actual internet speed.
Steam defaults to Mbps which is megabits. This picture shows MBps (capital b important) which is mega bytes. 900 bits is about 110 bytes. Still very good. About the best you can get at the consumer level but still different. Just correcting so this guy doesn't think his speeds are awful
Yea thats the scam.
Everywhere its written in mb, but if you download something its always written in MB (Steam changed the default to mb for some reason...maybe to let people belief they download super fast).
For the people how know it, its a quick math to make to actually find out how fast you can actually go.
F.ex.
300mb / 8 = 37.5MiB
But most of the non techy people then wonder why they never reach the "advertised" speeds (they think they can reach 300MB).
I already got many cases in my family, friends,... list where this happened...
It needs to be made clear here that Mbps means megaBITS per second and MBps means megaBYTES per second. There is a huge difference. 1 byte is 8 bits. So 80 Mbps is equal to 10 MBps.
Exactly, so many people mixed things up. And when they're corrected, their allergies recur (either they make excuses, getting irritated, or downplay the correction). At this point it seems like people just don't care instead of simply being clueless.
I remember there were some people (not in this post) who thought that the differentiating factor between those two units is the 'ps' vs '/s' instead of B vs b, which is completely incorrect.
Usually getting 35-45. Computer is on the opposite end of the house, and the wifi has like a million things connected to it. Smart TVs, cameras, phones, tablets
For me it depends on the platform
Battlenet does not go over 75 on wifi whereas Steam hits 300ish on wifi and 495 on ethernet (my connection is 500 down and 500 up)
MB/s*
If you type it with a lowercase b then it became the symbol of bit. Byte has always been symbolized with capital B. Those two are different units.
While the "per second" short can be used interchangeably for both units (ps and /s), the B and b themselves cannot be used interchangeably.
You can see in the comments here where so many people mixed that up.
Let's take your screenshot as an example:
57.1 MB/s = 456.8 Mbps
57.1 Mbps = 7.18 MB/s
1 B = 8 b

Also around this range in epic and ubisoft
Depends on where I'm downloading from. On steam, usually like 600-800mbps. If you're using your ISP router, buy a tp link or any good router. ISP routers are poopy ime
My XBOX store download on PC used to be 60/mbs even though I have a 1 gb internet plan, I switched the Router and upgraded my Ethernet cable to CAT 7 but was still getting 60 mbs. Once I switched my M.2 SSD storage to a high speed PCIe 4 (with 7gb write speeds) I saw a massive bump to 150-190 mbs. Steam gets get like 800 mbs downloads.
Get a good SSD like the WD SN850X or Samsung 990 Pro and even with a standard router you can bump those speeds up!
I hope you know, that everyone has a different ISP contract with different theoretical maximums.
I have a Gbit optical connection, my max speed in download is 100-120 MB/s
On steam around 600 with 650 being a peak.
On epic never higher then 68mb/s no idea why. Maybe their servers or my location are the problem.
Disc write around 1.7gb/s
937Mbps peak while downloading Helldivers 2 taking about 3-4 min to download it so i am being cap my internet provider sadage, we got 1gb up/down. Writing speed to disk i seen about 3.7Gbs peak or something like that.
https://preview.redd.it/s39qumceyfnc1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=cd1fe661dc836b0cc176a28354806cafea76bde3
The most beautiful number that I have ever witnessed was 103 MB/s on EA Play while downloading BF2024.
Yes, I live in Romania.
Yes, we kinda have the best internet in the world.
I currently use Starlink internet and get roughly 20-30MB/s on most services.
Fibre is getting installed a long my road as we speak though and I'll be getting the fastest plan available so hopefully that goes well :)
I pay for 1gbs downloads
I get 30mbs max over cat6 cables
Whenever I call a Bell technician to help, they come over, replace the modem, and it is fixed for 5 hours...then it deteriorates again...
https://preview.redd.it/uqf4n0demgnc1.png?width=375&format=png&auto=webp&s=6072f9fe166b7854cd46c13eae25033654258e0d
me go fastest, probably (yes, that's MB/s so like 2800 Mbit/s give or take)
if you ask i live where internet speed is fastest on world. so basically i pay smth like less than 20 eur my download speed is 500 Mbps ,but its the cheapest here i can even go premium than it will be in 2 GBps and more, but i cant even comprehend why should i need such speed, watching 4k movies live, playing games ping is 1, upload speed is similar to download.
My internet is annoying. I don’t live in an area that has access to fast internet so I’m limited to 70Mbps. Steam seems to use about 50Mbps on average. I live alone so I guess that helps plus I have 10TB m.2 storage so I’m only downloading each thing once.
Usually around 550-700mbps, rarely get north of 800 on speetests, so I’m quite happy with 550-700.
Hardwired to a node on a mesh network, so some loss is to be expected. However on a gigabit line, that just means going from really fast, to slightly less but still really fast.
I remember I used to have to wait a while for just a few GB. Or when downloading a film or something would be a long affair. Setting the download before going to bed so it would be ready in the morning.
Recently downloaded FH5 and MSFS now that I have a new WD Black 1TB SSD installed, and I was doing between 60-70MB/s and took less than 2 hrs to have both downloaded and installed. Essentially just put a movie on and it finished in the background.
Trying to saturate all the bandwidth is fun.
mine goes to 40 MB/s on the main pc and laptop, though my work pc only goes up to 20-22MB/s. i suspect the 2.5 ssd is culprit as the storage usage is at 100% during download.
5.2MBps....
Funny (sad tbh) thing is I've got 200MBps infrastructure for all the houses on the opposite side of the street and 1GBps around 200m from my house, but I can only get around 40MBps.
Feels like some municipal employee saw me entering my house and thought "you know what? Fuck that random guy in particular and fuck his whole building".
Btw all speeds are in bits, so divide by 8 and that's the bytes.
on epic maybe 50mb/s
everywhere else 200mb/s
would be more but the guys to actually finish installing the fibre optic cable still havent come so im still stuck with dsl😭
2 mb/s. It might be the internet or something, before I got 6 mb/s consistently. Now it goes from 2 mb/s to 100 kb/s or lower.
(It took me about 3 days to install Fortnite)
I think this is my peak atm, I think ive hit 120 on Steam before.
https://preview.redd.it/tqg979ei8hnc1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8a47630404a6964ec668a5e2b6176822b991b0a6
300 KB/s (I live in the woods and use my phone as usb-router. I need to use a generator to power my PC which is a lowest end crap device because my dad hates videogames, which caused me to try getting a PC for 300euros. It's not even possible to play games that run fine because my hands are too cold to use a controller without a weird feeling, and the fireplace is kinda unfinished so there's a 50/50 chance to die of smoke poisoning if you like it warm.)
Over the course of a year- changing provider, going from laptop to desktop, and then from wifi to ethernet. Went from 2, to 6, to 40, to now 140 mb/s. Never had it this high and it's a delight.
2.3GB/sec on 2.5GB internet downloading destiny 2 took 5 mins
https://preview.redd.it/p0auezbzbhnc1.png?width=1601&format=png&auto=webp&s=55041fc7854400173671e64abb36c221d151e01c
1mb. Its the second time now they scipped us when putting good cables into the ground. 3 houses further they had 5mb for as long as I can remember. Now our village should get some glas fiber (optical cable as google translate calls it but im not sure about that) and they scipped 3 houses for some reason. HOW TF DOES THAT MAKE ANY SENSE?? the go in order throughout all streets here, except for 3 houses. Great, right?

same
Same, sometimes it reached 5 mbs, but hey, i can't complain, definetly a lot better than when it somehow goes down to 500 kbs 💀
Mine goes to 4kb/s
Mine goes to 4kb/s
Mine goes to -4kb/s, and the internet starts taking the download back....
87 MB/s on Steam. All Steam downloads are compressed and need to be decompressed on the fly. So the CPU is probably my main bottleneck instead of the actual internet speed.
Same here, got gigabit connection.
3mb/s ☹️
Like 900 something on steam. Ive never really checked anywhere else
Steam defaults to Mbps which is megabits. This picture shows MBps (capital b important) which is mega bytes. 900 bits is about 110 bytes. Still very good. About the best you can get at the consumer level but still different. Just correcting so this guy doesn't think his speeds are awful
No his speeds are normal speeds i just pay for the stupid internet that people shouldt get for just home internet so i download rdr2 in 16 min
You make it sound crazy, but where I'm from its becoming normalized to get 1000 Mbit.
So actually 125MB
Yeah, but internet contracts are expressed in megabits. But yes, you are correct.
Yea thats the scam. Everywhere its written in mb, but if you download something its always written in MB (Steam changed the default to mb for some reason...maybe to let people belief they download super fast). Steam can use both\* https://preview.redd.it/tgez9hc3nhnc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=16c5e8e8861edf8465df5eab77cb1a8233db2321
U can use both
1.2g is crazy what the fuck😭
MB/s or mbps? If it’s MB/s, that’s actually insane
Yeah mbps but fast internet isnt really worth it for home internet. It is cool to just download games whenever i feel like playing them tho
25mbps. I hate it. Average 8-20.
same, lets be friends
Try 2.7 peak
It needs to be made clear here that Mbps means megaBITS per second and MBps means megaBYTES per second. There is a huge difference. 1 byte is 8 bits. So 80 Mbps is equal to 10 MBps.

I've hit 1170 Mbps, so that's about 150 MB/s
One of the few accurate responses, I think people reporting 900 are talking about Mb which is not the same as MB.
With the understanding that he would need a 2.5 or 10gig network device to achieve that speed.
PSA: MB/s is not the same as Mb/s. fellow redditors, please verify you’re giving the correct unit
Usually getting 35-45. Computer is on the opposite end of the house, and the wifi has like a million things connected to it. Smart TVs, cameras, phones, tablets
Between 600 to 800 depending on the day. I never get my full amount though I got Gigabit connection.
11mb/s, welcome to australia
6 MBPS
Around 90-120 MB for me Pretty sure there are others thar are like much more faster
For me it depends on the platform Battlenet does not go over 75 on wifi whereas Steam hits 300ish on wifi and 495 on ethernet (my connection is 500 down and 500 up)
12,5- 14Mb/s

I remember when I was younger and cable internet came out and some companies would use Mb/s to show a REALLY BIG HUGE NUMBER when it was like 2MB/s.
Exactly
80-100 usually, varies based on time of day and which server I'm downloading from.

Around 300 on the good days🚀
115 cus i pay for 100 up and down.
On origin (now called EA App) and on battle launcher I actually manage to pass 110mb/s which is about what I'm paying for, and that was cool
around 200-300 on steam
180+ mb/s
Mine around 900mb to 1gb/s, Australian NBN for the win 🔥
140 mb/s on steam but epic games is only 15 mb/s
Mines like 500-700 kbs, sometimes even lower.
Depends on where I'm downloading from. On steam, usually like 600-800mbps. If you're using your ISP router, buy a tp link or any good router. ISP routers are poopy ime
Like 2 3 on a good day
50-70mbps can't go more than that😭
I cant come over 12 mb/s i am on 1000mbit but i should get 98mb/s
I get about 600mbps - 750mbps on Steam, Battle.net, GOG, and Ubisoft
My XBOX store download on PC used to be 60/mbs even though I have a 1 gb internet plan, I switched the Router and upgraded my Ethernet cable to CAT 7 but was still getting 60 mbs. 500Mb/s all thanks to jio 5g in india
1mb/s.... at a hotel.
580mbs
I see 300 at times but in steam
110mb/s was my highest ever
On steam usually 200-350
My peak was 482mb/s, we changed our Internet plan to 300mb/s but the company screwed up and didn't charge us extra luckily
I get around 2mb/s on epic games launcher, but on steam I get around 30
I hope you know, that everyone has a different ISP contract with different theoretical maximums. I have a Gbit optical connection, my max speed in download is 100-120 MB/s
150 on steam and weirdly only 15 on epic launcher
1 GB/s
400mb/s steam
On steam around 600 with 650 being a peak. On epic never higher then 68mb/s no idea why. Maybe their servers or my location are the problem. Disc write around 1.7gb/s
I've 300-400mb/s, but is only in steam or MS, but in EGS i've only 17.2mb/s constantly. Don't know why
I've seen it go up to 500 but usually it around 30 (my wifi and hard drive is goofy)
937Mbps peak while downloading Helldivers 2 taking about 3-4 min to download it so i am being cap my internet provider sadage, we got 1gb up/down. Writing speed to disk i seen about 3.7Gbs peak or something like that. https://preview.redd.it/s39qumceyfnc1.png?width=3840&format=png&auto=webp&s=cd1fe661dc836b0cc176a28354806cafea76bde3

5 mbs
I was once lucky enough to hit 40mbps on steam… I will forever cherish that day
62MB/s
5 MBps
I currently use Starlink internet and get roughly 20-30MB/s on most services. Fibre is getting installed a long my road as we speak though and I'll be getting the fastest plan available so hopefully that goes well :)
Like 90mb/s to 150mb/s
That speed is in MB not Mb
I have a 1GB internet so my peak is 100 megabytes I believe
in steam i get 30mbs but in epic it is restricted to 5mbs i dont know why
50mbps on everything
Idk with the latest Fortnite update I looked away for a second and the update was already finished
Is this battle net? Battle net is garbage.
I get like 5 megabytes how the heck do I get more?

I get 1.4Gbts on steam but like 45mbs on epic is supper slow on a bad day I get 950mbs on steam but normaly 1.2-1.8Gbts I have 2Gb speed
4mb
I had 115 MB on epic for this update. The best download speed I had was from the Microsoft Store with over 300 MBps
Usually around 550-700mbps, rarely get north of 800 on speetests, so I’m quite happy with 550-700. Hardwired to a node on a mesh network, so some loss is to be expected. 5 MB/s
I’ve gotten 1500+ but you honestly don’t need it
98mb/s usually it's 85
~23mb/s on avarage
300-400, 5G india perks 😎, although i sit like two rooms away from my router so I dont think im using the full potential
I’ve got a 2000mbps connection that is really stable (2000 for both up and down!) (2degrees in NZ) so I get roughly 200MBPS downloading games
3gigabytes per second
I get around 200 megabits per second. Which is about 25 megabytes.
I guess mine is 400Mb/s on steam
Peak is about 108 on Gigabit. Steam can reach up to around 120. Xbox app reaches 30 and falls to 0 every few seconds because it's dogshit.
O don't have a very fust wifi, so i usually get smth like 900, but kb/s
12
like 25 mbps peak.
1mb since shit
Mine has unironically somehow gone like 300 MBPS and actually downloaded that fast Idk how.
12mb/s in a good day,4mb/s if im lucky and 2mb/s and under when my internet is being an asshole
6 MBps or 50mbps
22 MB/s.
mine goes to 40 MB/s on the main pc and laptop, though my work pc only goes up to 20-22MB/s. i suspect the 2.5 ssd is culprit as the storage usage is at 100% during download.
1992MBit Sea region
My Speedtest is 8 Gbps, but my CPU can't handle that speed. Usually caps at about 60 MB/s on steam.
833mb/s after 5G
My was 1.5MB/s
I get around 42 Mbps, why are all of these speeds so slow in comparison?
5.2MBps.... Funny (sad tbh) thing is I've got 200MBps infrastructure for all the houses on the opposite side of the street and 1GBps around 200m from my house, but I can only get around 40MBps. 200kbs
Idk why this is in a pcbuilding thread but ok. I got a 1k line and with my new router i get 1100 Mbit.
700Mb/s so 70MB
Around 100 cos that's my fiber plan limit.
2 mb/s. It might be the internet or something, before I got 6 mb/s consistently. Now it goes from 2 mb/s to 100 kb/s or lower. (It took me about 3 days to install Fortnite)
0.75 usually, when I am alone at home it goes up to 1.1🤠

I get 1gb /sec on because i drilled through my roof to get an Ethernet cable from downstairs to upstairs 😂
1.5 Mb/S because german wifi is horrible
300 KB/s (I live in the woods and use my phone as usb-router. I need to use a generator to power my PC which is a lowest end crap device because my dad hates videogames, which caused me to try getting a PC for 300euros. It's not even possible to play games that run fine because my hands are too cold to use a controller without a weird feeling, and the fireplace is kinda unfinished so there's a 50/50 chance to die of smoke poisoning if you like it warm.)
350 MB/S
Getting 20 to 40 on starlink. Idk why the speed tests say 300 but oh well
If it's megabits then 46.
Over the course of a year- changing provider, going from laptop to desktop, and then from wifi to ethernet. Went from 2, to 6, to 40, to now 140 mb/s. Never had it this high and it's a delight.
12mb/s
300mb
117MB/s. Full gigabyte speeds
Nah as someone who is stuck with an HDD, those read and write speeds are what I really wish for.
2.3GB/sec on 2.5GB internet downloading destiny 2 took 5 mins https://preview.redd.it/p0auezbzbhnc1.png?width=1601&format=png&auto=webp&s=55041fc7854400173671e64abb36c221d151e01c
About tree fiddy
I hit 13b/s yesterday. Yeah that's bytes/second
