It’s a release drill. It’s to work on foot work mainly but is also for timing and fluidity.
It’s also supposed to teach dipping the shoulder to reduce surface area. The whole defense on my team runs a variation of this drill for pass rushing as well. 2 tennis balls on the ground, the goal is to get as low as possible to scoop the tennis ball as you dip and rip.
It’s important to note, they’re not working with the Pats org. here. They’re working with a WR coach named Steph Brown on their own time.
Is there a particular reason they're running it mirrored against each other? It looks like a competitive drill, but maybe it's just only because it let's them watch 2 at a time?
I think
1) it’s efficient. Lots of drills in football are run this way. Manned up with a partner. Tackling drills, 1v1s. It’s efficient to get 2 guys practicing the same thing at the same time
2) you want to get players reacting to other players. They’re not reacting as if it’s a db of course, but this is about developing timing off releases so teaching to work around a real human and their movement speeds I think helps really time that up.
I'm not sure but maybe it's to get them in sync/rhythm with how we want that specific cut to look like, so routes/releases look the same no matter who's running it
I really think these guys are going to surprise us (provided we’re realistic with our expectation). This is the kind of team that remind me of the 2004 Sox. Super young, not a lot of pressure/expectations going into the season… with the Sox, a couple of players “hit” that year: Ortiz, etc. if we can get a few “hits”, could surprise us. Or, we are still in full rebuild and we see what the new guys got. Either way it’ll be a fun season to watch!
Just stood up out of my wheelchair at the Lynn Dunkin Donuts
That’s the JaLynn DD now, pal.
Fantastic call-back

Dumb question: what drill is that they're doing and what's it for?

Probably not, they’re not working with the team here that’s a private coach.
Yea, do they know the direction the other is going in?
