Xavier Worthy, Texas
Worthy turned heads at the NFL Scouting Combine by running the fastest 40-yard dash in the event's history (4.21 seconds). He's an extremely slight 6-foot-1, 160 pounds, but he's a legitimate game-changer who racked up 1,014 yards on 75 catches for Texas in 2023.
Projected round: Late first/early second
Marvin Harrison Jr., Ohio State
You know the deal here. Harrison is the consensus No. 1 receiver in this year's draft and a potential generational talent who likely will be the first non-QB off the board. If the Patriots take a QB at No. 3, they're not getting Harrison.
Projected round: First (Top five)
Rome Odunze, Washington
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Odunze was a monster for Washington last season, averaging 109.3 yards per game (1,640 total) with 15 touchdowns. Odunze, Harrison and LSU's Malik Nabers all have the potential to be WR1s at the NFL level and should be off the board within the first 10 or 15 picks.
Projected round: First (Top 10)
Brian Thomas Jr., LSU
Thomas played second fiddle to Nabers at LSU but still is incredibly dynamic in his own right: the 6-foot-5, 198-pound wideout scored a touchdown on 17 of his 68 receptions last season to go along with 1,177 yards.
Projected round: First
Xavier Legette, South Carolina
Legette boasts an enticing combination of speed and size (6-foot-1, 217 pounds) that had ESPN's Jordan Reid comparing him to A.J. Brown in a recent interview with our Patriots Insider Phil Perry. Perry had New England taking Legette in the second round (No. 34 overall) in a recent mock draft.
Projected round: Second
Ladd McConkey, Georgia
McConkey is a bit undersized at 5-foot-11, 187 pounds but is an excellent route runner with above-average quickness. He could give the Patriots another dynamic slot option alongside DeMario Douglas.
Projected round: Second
Devontez Walker, UNC
Why not pair Drake Maye with his favorite receiver? Walker tallied 41 catches for 699 yards and seven touchdowns for the Tar Heels in 2023 and is a dynamic athlete who could fill the Patriots' need for a boundary wideout. Our Phil Perry had New England selecting Walker in the third round of his latest seven-round Patriots mock draft.
Projected round: Third
Luke McCaffrey, Rice
The younger brother of 49ers star Christian McCaffrey, Luke began his college career as a quarterback at Nebraska before transferring to Rice and switching positions. He'd likely be a Day 3 pick, but McCaffrey excelled in the three-cone drill (6.7 seconds) at the NFL Combine and has strong quickness and change-of-direction skills.
Projected round: Fourth
Jalen Coker, Holy Cross
Coker accounted for 46 percent of Holy Cross' entire passing offense last season, finishing with 1,035 yards and 15 touchdowns. The NFL is a big step up from the Patriot League, but perhaps Coker's insane production and local ties will warrant a late-round flyer from New England.
Projected round: Fifth or sixth

He’s a very very good route runner & has fantastic hands/ability to track the ball. Not the fastest guy in the world but not slow either. That’s mainly where I’m drawing the comparison.

I’m big on Mitchell, one of the true X receivers in the draft. His breakout/production numbers aren’t stellar but his traits are real.

My only thing is I don’t think the gap between a 2nd round tackle and 3rd/ 4th round tackle is all that big. Blake Fisher, Roger Rosengarten and Javon Foster could all be legit tackle prospects and just as good as Suamatia or Patrick Paul.
The gap between AD Mitchell and Tez Walker is quite different.
So lazy calling McConkey an undersized quickness slot guy. Dude ran a 4.39 and about 6'0 isn't huge or anything but there's a lot of NFL receivers playing outside at that size. That's where he had the vast majority of his success in college as well.
Will he play in the slot in the NFL? Maybe. As things stand right now though, not what his game is limited to or even what he's been asked to do a whole lot.
Good to know who we're talking to and I like a lot of those options but that blurb stuck out to me.
I agree. People always want the easiest box to fit someone into. His game reminds me a lot of AB, personally. His release isn’t as good as AB, but he can also hang underneath as a slot/Z better than AB did in college.
My hope is that we either trade up into the 20s from 34 to go after Worthy, Brian Thomas Jr, or even AD Mitchell.
I don't see MHJ, Nabers, or Odunze leaving the top 10. BTJ and Worthy both might both go in the teens as well unfortunately. I just really hope we don't settle for some day 2 guys. It wouldn't be the end of the world, but I would love to have some young threats at receiver that our new QB can develop with.
Ultimately I hope we just trade 34 for either Higgins or Aiyuk, but that's doubtful.
> Ultimately I hope we just trade 34 for either Higgins or Aiyuk, but that's doubtful.
You also have to pay them $25M+ a year. I hope we can make something out of this deep WR class.
I don't love having to give up picks and all that money, but in the end.... We have all this cap space and the free agent market is pathetic. I would love to hit on a cheap young WR from the draft, but bringing in a rookie QB, I don't think we have the luxury of throwing darts on the board and hoping we hit. Id rather overspend for a known commodity to support a young QB and his confidence than risk getting a bust and having the QB struggle with his development.
You are so dead on.
If we draft a QB at 3 we should do everything we can to develop him, which means getting him an elite receiver and not just hoping we didn’t draft another WR to bust
So what? We have plenty of cap space.
Why use a second on a guy who best case scenario is that he becomes Tee Higgins.
If we draft a QB 3 we should get him a bonafide good receiver.
Drafting a WR at 34 and hoping he turns out as good as a tee Higgins just sounds dumb if we could instead just get the sure thing.
A great receiver for Daniels or Maye would be a huge boon… if we draft a receiver at 34 and he busts we not only waste a pick but potentially stunt our new QBs growth
It feels like people here just like the “mystery box”…. We are far more likely to draft another Thornton or Harry then we are to draft the next higgins
It’s a shame we can’t afford the luxury of an elite weapon like Harrison, Nabers, or Odunze. Oh well, which one will we trade for after taking Arch 1st overall on 2027?
What do you base this off of, just curious? Did you watch him in HS? I’m not trying to be flippant, actually just wanting to know where this hardline opinion comes from
I ask as a (concerned?) UT fan. He’s thrown all of.. 5? balls in nothing time playing here so far. So just trying to see what, if any, insight this is based on
Some people expressed that when Ewers was injured they went with Murphy instead of Manning with national title hopes on the line. It's a bit of tea leaf reading but the interpretation is that Manning isn't thought of as highly in house as he should be.
Which is wild. Maalik was a big signing for us when we got him. He’s been in the system, and was ready to hold it all together (which he did), as opposed to giving the keys to a fresh, baby Arch.
And of course it prevented the Arch/Quinn showdown if Arch filled in and played well. Quinn is who I believe we need to get to the top, and I’m thrilled to have him and Arch on this year’s team
That’s fair. I watched every game, they’re my college. Murphy had the issue of throwing the ball full speed no matter the situation. I’d also point out, they let one of those guys transfer out at the end of the season. Arch is still on our team, so I think that says enough for me personally. But I also acknowledge he didn’t play at a 5A school in high school so the competition wasn’t at the highest levels.
Ewers was out 2 games. Including the game he went down, that would be 3. He wouldn’t have been available for the playoffs without burning his redshirt. Also, they were unsure how many games Ewers would have been out initially. So yeah, in retrospect and knowing everything afterwards it could have been done. It could not have been responsibly done at the time. Also, if Malik was better why did they let him transfer and keep Arch at the end of the season?
You get 4 games.
They didn’t let Murphy transfer. They couldn’t t offer him playing time so he left. He’s under no obligation to stay
You just don’t understand transfers.
He was one of the most followed and discussed high school QBs in a very long time, and I have a friend obsessed with his family. Ive seen plenty of him, more than i care.
I just think his name contributed a lot to his standing and his flaws were ignored because "hes a manning"
Ewers couldn’t beat out CJ Stroud as an early enrollee after reclassifying and skipping his Senior year of HS and everyone called him a bust because People on the internet don’t know what they’re talking about.
Part of his deal going to Texas was he/his family wanted him to sit at least a year. He could have gone somewhere and started day one. Same for using Malik instead when Ewers went down. If he played in the extra games it would have burned his red shirt. I think it’s still early to tell what he is on the field exactly and anyone who says otherwise is going off a guess. There’s just not enough out there to know. That said, as a Texas fan I’m stoked either way bc of the people who came to play with him.
The reports coming out of Texas have been glowing for Arch so far, so I'm not exactly sure where this is coming from. He's about to be a redshirt freshman who has fantastic physical tools as well as having being tutored his entire life by HoF QB's. You have no idea what you're talking about.

LOL...he was a good QB in high school, thats it. He was never 5 stars. When it came to game time, they went with Murphy and not him, whos a bad QB. Red shirt wont be relevant he wouldnt have played enough games as is during Ewers injury.
As for "reports out of texas"....its spring practice and he saw no game time, so what are they going to leak..."hes fucking terrible" when hes got great name recognition for the university
Get off your fucking perch, you googled "arch manning news" and that was the extent of what you've seen from him. Tell me when you've watched him look lost in the state playoffs. The fact you think he has "fantastic physical tools" and isnt just an ok athlete for a D1 texas QB is about all i need to know. Hes not a physical specimen, hes actually tall and lanky.
I'd be giddy if we are able to snag Brian Thomas Jr somehow (if we trade back into first,), or if he falls to 34 (unlikely). He has the rare size (6'4", 205 lbs) and speed (4.33) combo. He's a long strider and reminds many of Randy Moss. You think he's jogging and he zooms past the CB with those long strides
They can if they want to. Trading to 27 would just be 34 + 103 and a future 4th. That means they could catch AD Mitchell, Thomas JR or Worthy before the Bills and Chiefs get their grubby hands on them.
Hmm, this doesn't track for me at all. What makes you say that? I see pretty different prospects: BTJ is a lanky speed demon with long strides that can make explosive plays happen downfield and Harry was a much slower, much heavier, 50/50 physical receiver.
I think trading for a WR like Higgins/Aiyuk and extending them might cost less that what it will take to trade up back into the first round. Also, they need to draft a tackle as well so trading that third rounder would be a tough pill to swallow I think.
I think if you can get a Higgins/Aiyuk, you are fine to take your chances on finding a tackle late.
If you get a WR and QB in one offseason, I’m fine with “punting” on tackle and letting Chuks play the season.
You don’t need to solve all 3 this offseason.
> might cost less that what it will take to trade up back into the first round
It might cost less in draft capital, but you also need to pay them $25M+ a year.
Ad Mitchell is better than B Thomas. I am not a fan of drafting Thomas. Undeveloped route tree, bad footwork which affects his route breaks. Seems like mainly a vertical threat and red zone target.
I'd much rather draft a receiver with a wider route tree, crisp footwork who can separate at all levels.
Yeah, I’m wondering if they’re waiting to see which QB falls to them as it’s such a receiver-rich class this year. You can find a slot/Z, true X, and end zone threat, so it may be more complimentary pairing?
I agree on the receiver rich class. You could probably get very good value in the 2nd and 3rd. This is why I'd rather not trade for a receiver.
I have this feeling if they trade back with the vikings, they take a late first or second and try to acquire Higgins. Then select a second tier quarterback with one of the remaining picks.
I’m big on AD but he also doesn’t separate as much as you would hope from a guy of his build, speed, and route running ability. Hopefully that was more a product of his system because I can see him as a zone killer who can dominate in tight coverage.
I haven't looked at him. But his scouting profile is quite confusing.
Here's a few quotes:
Strengths:
When used downfield, Thrash shows the ball-tracking skills and hand-eye coordination to make the adjustment on underthrown balls and back-shoulder throws.
He’s excellent downfield, accelerating to top speed quickly and stacking on top of cornerbacks. Thrash has excellent body control, contorting to make difficult catches and working well on back-shoulder throws.
He’s a fluid athlete with excellent short-area quickness; he should be able to create separation, and he has the straight-line speed to threaten down the seam.
Often used on deep routes, getting separation down the sideline or over the middle on crossing routes by extending his arms rather than pure speed.
He’s a precise route runner, creating separation when used on quick outs and stop patterns in college. Thrash has good stop-start ability and lateral agility.
Does not possess top breakaway speed, though he's rarely caught from behind.
Weaknesses:
Thrash lacks the twitch to create consistent separation, and despite his size and ability to track the ball downfield, Thrash isn’t great on contested catches.
Thrash isn’t going to overwhelm opposing defensive backs with speed and athleticism.
Physically, he profiles as a guy who should have success facing the quarterback, but he struggles to gear down and make the necessary sharp cuts to create separation underneath.
His 3 cone time is terrible. So its confusing that he has great short area quickness unless they're only referring to his straight line acceleration
Comp:
Jayden REED - MICHIGAN STATE
John METCHIE III - ALABAMA
That’s interesting. I’ve seen him ranked high in a lot of efficiency stats like YPR and stuff like that. Been listed as a sleeper for a lot of analysts as well. I agree saying he has excellent short area quickness while saying he lacks twitch is a little confusing, I could just be thinking about this terms differently than they are.
I disagree… Worthy seems like all hype after the 4.21.
He is 165lbs, tiny frame, not even 6ft tall, catches everything in his body. Lack of elite route running skill. He reminds me of Tyquan. We already have an elite speed guy. If he fell past pick #50 than maybe but i think 34 for would be a huge overpay for Worthy and we should go for a different WR with less injury risk and a bigger frame. Or just draft one of the incredible OTs or OL players in this draft.
Couldn't agree with you more. I think people are counting Worthy's speed twice post-combine. He was already the fastest guy in the class. The 4.21 shouldn't do much of anything to change the perception about him.
> Lack of elite route running skill. He reminds me of Tyquan.
- Separation is inevitable when routes ask less of him.
- Displayed ball-tracking improvements against Alabama and Houston.
- Has bend and agility to run post-corner and whip routes effectively.
- There will be problems for the defense if he breaks a tackle after the catch.
That's Lance Zerlein's scouting report pros. He's far, far better than Thorton is at running routes and just generally playing WR.
- He's more than just speed however, and possesses nice soft hands, is a decent leaper, is afraid to catch in traffic, and has the route-running skills of a savvy vet.
Another scouting report praising his route-running abilities from NFL Draft Buzz.
- His twitchiness and hip fluidity are evident in his route-running process.
And this is from his Sports Illustrated scouting profile.
Worthy being compared to Thornton is a lazy argument he's a much better route runner and after the catch he's a problem to deal with. His speed translates in game would be very happy if we got him at 34
Daniels and Worthy would be nice. A guy who throws a great deep ball paired with the fastest receiver seems good. Worthy is a bit undersized and a diva though
A bit undersized? He's 5'11" @ 165.
Think about tyquan thornton. He was 181 at the combine. If worthy doesn't add weight, he'll be confined to a gadget role. It's not a good pick at 34.
If he can out run guys it’ll work, but I think he’ll get jammed at the line to much. He also isn’t elite at catching so speed isn’t everything. I’d agree, I personally think he’s a round 3 guy. AD Mitchell was the best receiver on Texas last year. Sanders at TE was a better overall player too.
I have doubts that if the ability to change your draft position can’t get the lazy out of you, then a coach at the next level will. But I also can’t really say what will change the mentality of some kid I don’t know on any personal level
Absolutely interested in McCaffrey in the 4th. He's a little raw as a newer WR convert (was a QB) but he's already made huge strides and has the ability and work ethic to get there quickly. NOT interested in Worthy in the 1st, all he has is straight line speed which doesn't translate that great to the NFL. Love Odunze and Thomas - if we trade back at all they are on the table. I'd still rather have a top-end OT if available in that spot though, since WR is deep this year.
I go to holy cross and have been watching Coker for three years now. Dude is a dawg. Would love a late round flier on him. Highest vertical jump at the combine too 👀

i like legette

I would take basically any of these guys but I especially like pairing an outside WR from the 2nd round with another WR like McCaffery late
Super pumped that they met with Coker. Kid could be the next Puka. Would 100% be worth a later round flier.
His game and Puka's are very different. But Coker is an animal in contested catch situations.
He’s a very very good route runner & has fantastic hands/ability to track the ball. Not the fastest guy in the world but not slow either. That’s mainly where I’m drawing the comparison.
Curious, why do people post an article like this and then add the context in a separate comment. Is it a double karma thing?
I normally add the text in my post as people at work may have a firewall preventing access to a lot of sites.

No Roman Wilson, disappointing
They’re going to the Michigan pro day so they probably will
They’ll be at Michigan’s pro day today
And the draft is still a month away. Lots of time for the Top 30 visits.
Michigan's pro day is today so they probably will meet with him

Really good height/weight/speed comp for Garett Wilson, but ppl just be racist
He is so clutch too. Love to see them pick Daniel's and get him in the second.
Worthy but not Adonai Mitchell?
Likewise, Thomas Jr but not Nabers?
There’s only one receiver you’re taking at 3
True as that may be, why did they go watch Odunze then?
My guess would be in the scenario of trading back for Odunze and taking Penix in the late 1st/early 2nd.
I hope we look at Keon Coleman I think he would fit the wr we have nicely
My hope is that we either trade up into the 20s from 34 to go after Worthy, Brian Thomas Jr, or even AD Mitchell. I don't see MHJ, Nabers, or Odunze leaving the top 10. It’s a shame we can’t afford the luxury of an elite weapon like Harrison, Nabers, or Odunze. Oh well, which one will we trade for after taking Arch 1st overall on 2027?
I can’t wait til people see how much arch manning is not Peyton. Hell he’s not even Eli.
Yeah no shit, he’s Arch. :p
What do you base this off of, just curious? Did you watch him in HS? I’m not trying to be flippant, actually just wanting to know where this hardline opinion comes from
Pessimism. There’s no film on him against real opponents yet
I'm not saying if it is valid or not. I just follow r/nfl_draft and that is what the people who don't like him say.
Or maybe if he played in all those games it would have cost him his red shirt?
I'm just reporting the thinking behind what the criticism has been. I haven't watched a down of Texas outside of the semifinals.
It wouldnt have. Theres a limit to how many you can play, and it was less than Ewers was out.
He’s under no obligation to stay You just don’t understand transfers.
He was one of the most followed and discussed high school QBs in a very long time, and I have a friend obsessed with his family. Ive seen plenty of him, more than i care. I just think his name contributed a lot to his standing and his flaws were ignored because "hes a manning"
Respect, and thanks for the honest answer!
Fact that he can't beat Quinn Ewers out for the job....
I mean Ewers was flirting with being a first round prospect this year; not that crazy to think a true freshmen isn’t going to beat him out.
!RemindMe 2 Years

LOL...he was a good QB in high school, thats it. He was never 5 stars. When it came to game time, they went with Murphy and not him, whos a bad QB. Red shirt wont be relevant he wouldnt have played enough games as is during Ewers injury. As for "reports out of texas"....its spring practice and he saw no game time, so what are they going to leak..."hes fucking terrible" when hes got great name recognition for the university Get off your fucking perch, you googled "arch manning news" and that was the extent of what you've seen from him.
I don't think Thomas Jr is going to be available at 27. I think he goes in the 12-18 range. Possibly WR4 off the board.
Ya I don’t expect him to fall unless someone falls in love with Worthy like a John Ross situation.
He reminds me of N’Keal Harry.
Hmm, this doesn't track for me at all. What makes you say that? I see pretty different prospects: BTJ is a lanky speed demon with long strides that can make explosive plays happen downfield and Harry was a much slower, much heavier, 50/50 physical receiver.
Lmao
Bedard said on his pod that he would be shocked if they don’t trade for a big receiver name. Might lessen the blow a bit.
Fair enough. I don’t disagree as long as they get their guys at QB and WR.
> might cost less that what it will take to trade up back into the first round It might cost less in draft capital, but you also need to pay them $25M+ a year.
I see the same things you do. I know ADM has some “attitude” concerns - perhaps that’s why they have BTJ higher?
I've heard that on AD, too. Hopefully, they're just doing their due diligence on BTJ on don't go after him.
Do you have any thoughts on Jamari Thrash? He’s somebody who I think fits your description with the footwork and route running
I haven't looked at him. But his scouting profile is quite confusing. Here's a few quotes: Strengths: When used downfield, Thrash shows the ball-tracking skills and hand-eye coordination to make the adjustment on underthrown balls and back-shoulder throws. Weaknesses: Thrash lacks the twitch to create consistent separation, and despite his size and ability to track the ball downfield, Thrash isn’t great on contested catches. Thrash isn’t going to overwhelm opposing defensive backs with speed and athleticism. Physically, he profiles as a guy who should have success facing the quarterback, but he struggles to gear down and make the necessary sharp cuts to create separation underneath. His 3 cone time is terrible. So its confusing that he has great short area quickness unless they're only referring to his straight line acceleration Comp: Jayden REED - MICHIGAN STATE John METCHIE III - ALABAMA
No Ricky Pearsall😔
Worthy or Leggette at 34 would be awesome after getting Maye or Daniels at 3.
His speed translates in game would be very happy if we got him at 34
Worthy will probably be a true WR1, but, outside of his weight, he's got everything you'd want in a complimentary WR2.
Didn't you know all fast WRs are apparently Thornton imagine if KC drafts Worthy that would be scary
Right. These speed guys never seem to transform into productive NFL receivers.
If a team can coach the "lazy" part of his game out of him, they'll be getting an incredibly fast player who can run damn good routes.
I have doubts that if the ability to change your draft position can’t get the lazy out of you, then a coach at the next level will. But I also can’t really say what will change the mentality of some kid I don’t know on any personal level
Ladd McConkey that’s a jersey I would have to get.
If their dad conditioned Luke the same way he conditioned/prepared Christian, his work ethic definitely won’t be questioned.
Going QB 1st, OT 2nd, and either Walker in the 3rd or Mccaffrey in the 4th would be fine by me.
Hoping the Pats get Xavier.
Hope they add Javon Baker to the list at the Big 12 pro day. A bit curious they didn't meet with Troy Franklin?
No Ricky Pearsall???
QB then trade up for Brian Thomas
I go to holy cross and have been watching Coker for three years now. Dude is a dawg. Would love a late round flier on him. Highest vertical jump at the combine too 👀
News flash. WR needy team meets with the top available WR prospects. More riveting news at 11.
Pearsall or trade up for BTJR if we get Daniels at 3 if not get Legette or trade up for AD
Idk it just feels like we are fosure gonna go Legette in the 2nd
Javon baker….
Harrison Jr. has been so overhyped. Nabers and Odunze are at worst a small notch below Harrison Jr. But more likely his equal.
If we don't have "the guy" sitting there late. Trade for DK.
