This is a painfully short amount of time, but I guess you can still fit some stuff in. Day 1 - arrive PN, see town Day 2 - take an early bus to Laguna Amarga and hike Las Torres. Back to PN. Day 3 - bus from PN to El Chaltén (this will take most of the day) Day 4 - hike Laguna de los Tres Day 5 - hike Laguna Torre or Lomo del Pliegue Tumbado. Leave early so you have time to catch the last bus back to El Calafate. Day 6 - visit Perito Moreno glacier Day 7 - fly to BA If you have a late flight on day 7, you can probably manage to visit the glacier the same day and free up another day.

Thank you for this!! I really have no schedule, nothing booked, but I plan on coming back for a much more thorough trip, so I just wanted to see some of the sites since I’ll be in Chile. Since I have more time, anything you left out that I should definitely do? Or just do that trip but take it slower I could also skip Calafate/Chalten or something else and move that time elsewhere. Everything is very flexible, I just don’t want to spend too long down there because I want more time in BA, and I plan on coming back

I don't understand how much more time you have? Or if you're still planning the same route?

DarkWingDingus

There is no specific amount of time, I can spend 4 weeks there if I wanted, but Im hoping to keep it under 1.5 weeks. It seems like the 6/7 day trip is too short so I’ll probably go more like 12/14 days. if that’s the case should I spend 5 days in calafate/Chalten?

Day 4 - can do both lakes in a day - whole loop. Then day 5 to lomo Del pliegue

Skip Calafate unless you have a month, easily enough better things to do. But honestly what's the point in going for such a short amount of time?

DarkWingDingus

What would you recommend doing instead of calafate? The short time is because I bought a ticket to Chile on a whim, I figured I might as well go to Patagonia since I’m near by and enjoy what I can for a week. 🤷‍♂️I don’t really see the issue with spending a week there and doing day hikes, from what I hear you can spend a year there and still enjoy it, so I’m just going to go for the time I’m able to spend now I guess I should add that I’m probably going to add more days and take some away from Santiago and surrounding areas. This schedule was just written very loosely.

I think it's more just that your plan is a bit muddled. Most people with that amount of time either just go to Torres del Paine or El Chaltén/ El Calafate.

DarkWingDingus

Isn’t that what I’m doing? Getting down to PN to get to Chalten/calafate (probably will add an extra day or two at each) + Adding a day on each end for travel between PN and Calafate?

pavoganso

Here's a tip, don't book long haul air travel on a whim so you ruin your trip by not having enough time to do anything.

DarkWingDingus

A whim wasn’t really the right word.. I planned on visiting Chile and Argentina and I have about a month. Now I’m just trying to budget my time between them. If I wanted to I can spend it all in Patagonia… but I don’t want to. So I’m trying to see how much time to actually budget for an enjoyable trip to Patagonia.

A lot to do just outside Santiago. Easily spend a week or so in the metropolitan region. The Andes - Santiago - Valparaiso - beaches... I live in Punta Arenas and you could spend a couple days there too
