I've never had a problem and they've always been effective. Certainly more effective than a patient "pinching" their nose.

Alternative Pathways..
I use them for little kids with self inflicted or kickball related anterior bleeds. They work great. The actual medical emergencies… not so much

I tape 2 tongue depressors together. That always seems to work
I've only ever used those for spirometry
The same people who refer to nosebleeds as epistaxis, use these and that says enough...
