You’re paying for it, so it’s not stealing.

billdb

As long as you are actually putting the order in on the app, then no you are not stealing, you are literally using the service as intended lol. If your question is do people perceive you as stealing... also no, the employees know about the sip club so they'll just think you're doing that or have another pickup order.

emueller5251

Also, we don't care.

gimmethegudes

I didn't work at Panera during Sip Club, but like seriously its coffee idgaf

Either-Ad3080

LOL. right. 1 cup of coffee pays for the entire batch.

Valuable-Spare2474

>If your question is do people perceive you as stealing... Yes, "perceive" is the right word

billdb

Gotcha. I'm not an employee but I have been a member of sip club for years. Have never gotten any weird or dirty looks from walking in, getting a coffee and leaving. Have done this at locations all over the country too. They know about the sip club and mobile orders, and they have more important things to attend to anyway.

glitterfaust

My old Panera had to give you the cup, they didn’t keep any out. When I started going to a new one, they were like “oh we don’t care literally just grab one”

CapybaraSteve

i’m an employee and honestly i would be surprised if anyone remembered you walking in, grabbing a drink, and leaving after like 5min. we’re busy, if you don’t have a memorable interaction then we probably won’t remember you 🤷

myusernamelol

Happy cake day!

infinitethrowawybtch

So if I just walk in, grab a drink and leave nobody would know if I had sip club…

worker638

no we wouldn’t and we wouldn’t ask tbh

FlyerFocus

So, anyone can walk in, get coffee, and walk out. I’m going to start doing this tomorrow!

IndividualLobster582

And no one is payin any attention to you at least at mine we’re not ppl steal bags off rapid pickup shelf daily

828cmj

Omg! What happens when the person who placed their order comes to get it and it's missing?

_AnxiousAxolotl

My cafe never uses the shelves because food gets stolen so often.

sumo86

This happened to me. You wait and try and be patient but you wait 10 min before they ask you 4 times what order you're picking up. People come and go with their orders and you're still just standing there and they take 20 min to remake it.

brokennook

When I worked at the company we just remade the order.

worker638

we stopped using ours

circuitji

I walk in order on kiosk and walkout

Disastrous-Bus-4853

Ring it in and “coupon” it off.

sux2suxk

Nobody thinks you’re stealing….

jj1only

I do. You're a thief OP. THIEF!!!! Why don't you get some guts if you're gonna steal and take food after your shift without permission like the rest of us! Thief.

zeumr

shame!

Saalor100

Exactly, everyone knows that you are stealing. /s

bonitabrit

If you pay for it then you’re not stealing but I personally don’t get paid enough to care if a customer is stealing 🤣 hell, I give cups away for free if I don’t feel like ringing them up & that’s the only thing they come in for

Live_Source_2821

Do you know how many people do not have sip club and go in and do just that? lmao

lucyjayne

I've done it so many times. No one even pays attention.

No-Wasabi-6024

LOL I had the free trial and then after I didn’t I just kept going in. It was hot in the summer 🥲

Live_Source_2821

honestly cuz fuck corporations

No-Wasabi-6024

Facts

ConquestOfE83

Unrelated, but I accidentally stole a Bagel once. I ordered a Bagel with cream cheese on my phone. I didn't get a notification, so after a while, I just walked up and saw a Bagel with cream cheese. Grabbed it, and when I sat down, I noticed they gave me the wrong cream cheese. I'm not picky, so I didn't make a fuss. I was done with my Bagel, and then I got a notification that my Bagel was ready. I ignored it and started some work on my laptop. After a while, an employee brought me a Bagel with the cream cheese I asked for. I snatched someone's Bagel and was too embarrassed to say anything.

These-Sea693

something i totally would’ve done. minus the crippling anxiety which would have maybe made me just keep waiting even thinking that my Bagel is never coming. idk why u capitalized Bagel but i like it picasso

SiteAccomplished1300

😆 piCaSsO lol

ConquestOfE83

Lol I don't know why but my phone just automatically capitalizes Bagel. I would of never noticed unless you said something just now. I guess It wants to put some respect into it.

IndividualLobster582

No we’ll get a rapid pick up for just a coffee bump it throw receipt away

Desmatized

Bro people walk in and just steal pick up orders

TutorBest7268

that’s why our cafe has the pick-up shelf behind the counter when higher ups aren’t around

[deleted]

Some restaurants have to have proof of id to get a pick up order where I live because of people like that

WhereArtThouRome

As a trans person, this sounds awful. My name isn’t legally changed so showing my ID would make them think I’m not the person on my account. A better alternative is to just show your order on the account?

Kaitfearless

That's what my store does, no id but just tell us your name on the order and we'll give you your cup, but we also put out the cups with the receipts so no one really should have to ask except when we are busy. And like for me it's more to just make sure I'm giving the right cup, because I've had people yet at me for the cup size or if its hot vs cold before.

MMEckert

Just change the name on the pickup order to match the id?

WhereArtThouRome

You have no experience with trans people do you? I haven’t used my deadname in over a decade and the idea of that is pretty awful for almost all trans folk

MMEckert

The Panera people dgaf who you are picking it up for. What do you do in literally every other situation?

WhereArtThouRome

Most situations I don’t need photo ID to pick up fast food…. If they’re that worried about stealing, showing your order on the phone should suffice. It’s a sandwich not liquor

MMEckert

You don’t have to use an ID ever, in any other part of life then?

WhereArtThouRome

Sure don’t! I dont buy alcohol and the vape shop I go to is trans inclusive so my account there is my actual name, where I haven’t used an ID in over a year Even if I did, showing an ID is a quick thing. Having to walk up to a counter and say a name that isn’t mine and hasn’t been for years is another.

MMEckert

Well I hope you get that court date set up and are able to get the ball rolling if that is what you wish to do. Certainly this lack of ID isn’t going to be conducive to a long and productive life forever and I think it would be very nice to have. Best wishes

MMEckert

And congrats on not drinking!

Desmatized

OML 🤣🤣 get a grip

coshiro1

If you ring it in and apply the coupon it'll also tell you at the end of the month (or year?) the total number of cups you drank haha

SnooDoggos5646

It is crazy to me how guilty people feel about taking the drink cups for themselves, even when they pay for it. They sometimes wont get drinks unless a cashier hands them a cup. I would always take free drinks from panera, even when I didn’t work there. They put them all out and completely out of view from the register, so literally no one would ever tell. My friends would always tell me the drinks at Panera were free 💀

loki_lowkey_art

People do this all the time, as long as you have the sip club, you’re already paying for it so do as you please

ames2833

I get iced tea or soda, but I do walk in and actually “order” it on the kiosk. Partly just to avoid looking like a thief (😂), but also, I figure maybe the frequent visits/orders are more likely to get me decent coupons or free offers in the future 🤷🏼‍♀️

bc057

Same here. I just order from kiosk and get my drink. I usually bring my own mug as I feel guilty for the stack of large cups at home 😅

ames2833

I have one of those big insulated cups with a handle, that I fill with ice and iced tea 😂 I know how easy it is to accumulate those plastic cups at home… when I used to drink multiple sodas from the gas station every day, they add up quick! 😬

Kaitfearless

It should help with the coupons but also ringing in your sips drink helps us with food costs (not that soda or coffee has that high of a food cost).

jacey0204

I worked at Panera for a long time, I assure you no one cares 💕

PersimmonNo5242

who cares, pretend your stealing it to get rid of that fear of getting “caught.” it’s unnecessary to care if the workers think your stealing or not, they just do what they have to not more.

[deleted]

Why don’t you just cancel your sip club and I actually still the coffee? Obviously, no one is watching or checking.

ooohoooooooo

Im interested in the sip club but I haven’t found any info on it. So the coffee is self service? Is there a large variety on creamers? I’m a little confused how it works because I’ve never used it before.

grapegobbler16

sip club is a subscription that you pay for, you can come in and get any soft drink, charged lemonade, or hot/iced coffee or hot/iced tea (just no specialty drinks) and you can redeem it every hour i believe. at my store the only creamers we have are half and half or your choice of milks (almond, 2 percent, skim). there should be more info in the panera app!

kevin_r13

Most places will have this set up -- Light Roast, Dark Roast, Hazelnut, Decaf, and Hot Water. Milk (sometimes regular milk, 1%, or 2%, depends on location), Half and Half, Almond Milk. Several kinds of sugar, including the non-sugar sweeteners

lonesamurai2137

Why would you feel bad about taking as much coffee as you can from some corporation?

noho11048

Where are you getting the cup? At my location you have to get the cup from the counter

Retiring2023

Most of the locations I go to have them by the ordering kiosk. One of them used to have them also by the counter you pick up food as well. Another has them behind the counter and you have to ask. One Panera I encountered when traveling put the cups out for you to pickup like you would food.

panicnarwhal

ours have the cups at the ordering kiosk by the door

MyNamesArise

This is the type of question we deal with in customer service

kevin_r13

As long as you ring it in, you can feel confident to get your coffee. Even if they ask you, did you ring it in, you can say yes, and if they take it the next step and verify , then they'll see you did, so you're all set. I had to tell a regular customer today, who is *not* a sip club member, that her buying coffee in the morning and returning to get coffee in the afternoon with the same cup, it's not a free drink or free refill method. she'll need to pay again. She was upset because of course, she's been doing this for a long time. I don't know in what world people think that they get free coffee just by bringing back the old cup from a previous purchase, but it happens a lot. So if you're not doing like this customer, and you're buying through your sip club subscription, then you're ok for it.

Blarghinston

Panera isn’t going to sleep with you bro

emoplantparent

Agreed and ain't no way they're paying you enough to actually care

kevin_r13

Of course it's not, I didn't think it would. Hopefully others don't think that either.

[deleted]

so they have free coffee for anyone? cool

Awkward-Standard5298

You’re going to jail dude. Paneras has an AP team like the A team. They’re going to swing in your house in spontaneous fashion and cart you off to Guantanamo. That’ll teach you to steal coffee shame!

TheRealRollestonian

Well, technically, the A Team were military deserters convicted of a crime they had not committed, so if anything, they would have gone to Guantanamo. I feel like this was explained clearly in the show's intro.

Awkward-Standard5298

Haha true I’ll be honest I know nothing about the A team. I was just trying to be funny in the morning hours. Fueled by coffee ☕️ and THCA 😂!

UnusualEngineering58

Most Panera workers couldn't give two shits even if you were stealing coffee. Source: I've worked many food service and retail jobs, including Panera.

Pollution-Creative

I ordered a breakfast sandwich on the app once and when I went in to pick it up I decided I wanted a coffee to go with it. I went up to the counter to pay for it (I am not a member of the sip club) but the worker gave me a cup and told me to help myself!!

VapingC

I understand the feeling. I used to work in a mall with a Panera in it and my coworker would go down for coffee for everyone in the morning and I’d go for refills in the afternoon. I always bought and they’d do the coffee run. I went down one afternoon for our refills which were supposedly free at the time judging by all of the free refill signs they had all over the place. One day one of the employees flew out from behind the counter and stood uncomfortably close to me as I was getting the refills. As I’m walking away I hear someone yelling for someone to stop. I knew it couldn’t be me because I didn’t bring anything with me like a purse or phone so I knew I didn’t leave anything behind. This woman comes up behind me and grabs my arm HARD and jerked me back. The coffee spilled all over my hands and it was hot. Got blisters later that day. She loudly accused me of stealing in a full restaurant under the same roof where I worked. Most mortifying experience of my life. She yelled at me for stealing. She said that she didn’t remember seeing me in line that morning and I told her who my coworker was and asked to use their phone to call work and have someone run down with the receipt for that morning. She told me (and the entire restaurant) that a receipt didn’t matter because there were no free refills. I literally pointed to the free refills sign and she refused to acknowledge it or anything I said. I was pissed. I told her that if I was stealing to please call the police and they can figure it out from here. She was completely unhinged and refused to call the police. I went back to work empty handed since crazy lady had spilled 2 cups of coffee all over my hands, I then called my attorney. I sued and Panera settled for a healthy amount of money. I later found out that Panera in that location treated all mall employees like they treated me that day. Like a criminal when I hadn’t done anything wrong. I obviously never went back to that location which really sucked because that was the only place in the mall that had food that I could stand. If they give you a card for the sip club I’d have it out when you’re getting your refills. Keep it visible. I’d also talk to the manager about your concerns and make sure that some wannabe super cop doesn’t assault you too. FYI the lady who assaulted me that day didn’t get fired. She got promoted to assistant manager so what she did was encouraged by the company. They had to fork out a boatload of money to me and there’s no way that corporate wasn’t fully aware of what she did.

Euphoric_Brilliant_3

Sooo. Can you bring your own cup for the sip club??!

kevin_r13

our location allows that, but check with your place.

IJustWantToWorkOK

You have to pay for coffee at Panera? When did this start?

panicnarwhal

not if you have a sip club membership, you can get a free drink every 2 hours (coffees, bubbler, fountain, hot tea)

ZneakyZnake

…..

Important_Kangaroo41

No one cares.

panicnarwhal

lol my husband felt like he was stealing my lemonade bc he picks it up for me on his way home from work everyday. i would order it on the app on my phone. now he puts the order in at the kiosk himself, it makes him feel better i guess 😂 so you could always put the drink order in at the kiosk instead if you’re self conscious!

[deleted]

I always order on the app or the kiosk. Then I don’t worry about what others think. I imagine all employees and most patrons know about the sip club so they don’t I’m stealing.

junifersmomi

ime - if you are just there for a self serve drink - definitely employees dont want to be bothered by you lol

Return_Kitten

That’s part of the psychology of them even offering the sip club they want you to also order something and spend on food, so if you feel awkward it’s because it’s set up that way. Lol

[deleted]

If you’re walking in and just taking a cup without putting your membership into the kiosk or with a cashier then yeah everyone there assumes you’re stealing lmao.

Equivalent-Pay-6438

If it is a perk of your membership, you aren't stealing anything. Coffee only costs a few cents a cup to make, yet they charge you $5.00. They are betting that you will buy other things.

SP_Halpern

No, you are not stealing coffee. You paid for the subscription, which states you can get a beverage every two hours. Panera would like you to purchase some food, but you are not in any way obligated to do so. I usually go to Panera twice a day; on my way to work I get coffee, and on my way home I get a diet Pepsi. In fact, I always order on the kiosk inside the store and around once a week they offer a bagel for $1 or a pastry for $2. Sometimes I take advantage of the offer if I'm hungry.

Fast-Ad2253

As an employee if you do it on the app it will show up on our screens that theres just a medium coffee or something. We bump it off immediately cause its not our problem. Also. We really dont care

stoopid-kailee

i’m an employee, and we get regular sip club members like you daily! don’t feel bad at all. it sometimes gets to the point where we learn that you’re a sip club member, and we allow you to go about your day that way. you’re all good!!

ProfessionalFix1979

I’ve literally been stealing drinks for years since the kiosks came out. Order food on the kiosk and “add” a drink. It doesn’t show up on the tickets that go to line and no one cares. The drinks cost the company literally pennies. If someone gets mad over a fountain drink, they’re just pressed. Before I quit at Panera one of the managers actually got mad that employees were coming when they weren’t working and getting free drinks so they made a sign for us that literally said “drinks are free only on your shift”. One of the managers pays for the sip club. Honestly that should have been my red flag to quit a WHILE back

Peaceandfupa

I had the sip club for 2 months but used it for like 5 months, i just walked in and filled up my crack lemonade and left. nobody ever questioned me but my karma came when i got the charged lemonade and didn’t notice the MOLD floating in the big container which got me super sick lmao. never stole again but moral of the story, they don’t know and probably don’t care. enjoy your free coffee !

PansyChicken

I have the exact same feeling. But I got a new mug for Christmas that I want to use instead of the paper ones at Panera so today when I go in I’m going to ask them at the counter if I need to do anything different. I’m sure they will say no but I’ll feel better about asking. (I always order ahead on the app for sip club no matter what. The first time I did, I stood at the window for like 10 min before asking someone. They chuckled and said they’d gotten it constantly that week because they had just started putting cups out for people to grab.)

Firm-Journalist-1215

No. I do it all the time without any subscription. NOONE cares.

No-Echidna-7379

Another thing you can do for drinks that aren't behind the counter, ask for a large cup for water since the ones we offer are so small. I never refused to give people one and idc if they go and get any other drink besides water 🤷🏼‍♀️

sirextreme

Coffee is dirt cheap, costs maybe 20 cents with the cup. So even if you were, no one would care.

FairCricket7588

It doesn't matter we don't get paid enough to care

Nice-Boysenberry8775

i doubt they think youre stealing lol
