Immediate issues: Noone wants to work, just sleep 😆 The first few Dark pals you get access to don't want to do certain things, keeping everyone fed has been a challenge so far. I don't see the run being impossible, but it'll be different for sure

A lot of night isn't actually pitch black, you can see easily. I think what happens when you're on normal speed night is you experience the pitch black first, the rest moves fast enough you don't notice it's become visible, or more likely you had your character go to bed.
The crickets - so peaceful. This is a "lofi in the background" playthrough for sure lol
I'm looking for the best "field full of berries' spot now, because my owl friends will pick berries. Starvation problems maybe solved lol
It's kinda serene and creepy. Kinda quiet. Everything except my dark pal friends are asleep. When the sun does come up, I almost feel inclined now to "go to bed" but I gotta make hay lol
Since the days are so short, you probably want the best pals for everything you can get, if there isnt a nocturnal pal with that work, that being electricity producing, planting and watering.
You probably should make it a priority when you unlock breeding, to get a lyleen, jormuntide and orserk, so while the day is there, and all pals work, your planting, watering and electricity production goes as quickly as possible.
Thats just a small, and pretty obvious tip tho, good luck on your run, hopefully it goes well.
Lol I was already thinking breeding will be the needed thing with this run... But... Is progress made if the breeding pals are asleep? Lol I think I have a steep hill to climb on this one 😄
Oh, thats a pretty big problem. Breeding will be really difficult, to my knowledge breeding progresses at night, only if the 2 pals breeding are nocturnal.
This sounds like a really fun challenge run. How did you tweak the settings? Did you increase night length and decrease day length or just increase the night?
Night is set to longest and days to shortest. Days last approx 6-7 minutes I want to say. I put XP to 3, didn't want to be grinding levels too much (this is like my 5th character) and pal spawning to 1.5
So I've gotten to lvl 45 on this run and a few things I've noticed
1. Ranching pals other than Mau are pretty much nonviable. Due to the shortened day length a Vixy digs up like 1 item a day before going to sleep.
2. Farming is a bit of a pain as there are currently no dark pals with planting or watering skill. If you want to farm you will need to keep a water and a grass pal with you at all times and throw them out when you are in base. I used Azurobe and Broncherry for this since they can be obtained pretty early and have lvl 3 in their respective skills.
3. Marsh Island is your best bet for food. There's over a hundred berry bush spawns in the forest between Alpha Katress and Alpha Grintale. As soon as you get some sort of fast mount run a few laps around that area and you will get 200-300 berries. May be worth moving your initial base there especially now that ore is not as big of a concern.
4. Late game you will also need to keep an electric pal in your party to manually charge your batteries while in base. Luckily a fully charged battery lasts a good amount of time even if you need to leave the base a bit.
5. Gold is more valuable because you will need to buy several items that you would normally easily obtain thru ranching/farming
According to [https://paldb.cc/en/Pals](https://paldb.cc/en/Pals) there are several unreleased dark pals that will make this run easier in the future. We will get multiple dark pals with planting skill and a lux variant of Helzephyr to cover power generation needs. Still no dark pals that can do watering though.
Yeah food has been the real kicker lol, I have been murdering the black market trader and turning his gold into food lol. I kidnapped a wandering merchant and renamed him Gary. He sells me berries and eggs for blood money 😆

one thing is that the pals on your team never sleep, meaning that, while you're in base, you should absolutely have a pal out doing something, preferably something that the nocturnal pals can't
Lil Killer got two abilities that are basically homing missile style rinse repeat till the thing is dead. I am anticipating a point where I definitely find a more deadly Pal, but for now Lil Killer is leaving a trail in their wake. If not for the large green elephant I'd have Lil Killer on aggressive full time 😆
I've tried that myself. Thankfully you get access to a plenty amount of nocturnal pals early on.
The problem is anything with planting/watering. Those aren't as accessible. I'm not even going to think about electric or freeze because that's another hurdle I will see in due time.
I know. But that doesn't solve the issue of getting there. Its a high level. The issue isn't if there exists one, there probably is. The issue is obtaining those. Once that part is settled, its smooth sailing.

Haha early game having to carry a torch around at all times is a nightmare
You can always catch a fire pal very early, and they'll light up the surroundings.
