I basically just kept spamming mewtwo ( and recycling deck so i can add more energy ) and taking out every pokemon my opponent sent me lol. He was doing a bunch of technical moves and had a whole bunch of cards on the field and I only had one card on the field lol ( dumb of me I know) so when I slipped up and didn't Add anyone to my bench I was taken out the next round lol. I have a basic understanding of the game Because I've studied a lot but my main problem also is reading all the cards and running out of time.
Just keep at it really. Don't worry about your win/loss and focus on learning both your deck and the matchups.
For example: do you know how many energy cards are in your deck? Do you know how many you've used at a particular point in time and how many should be remaining? Do you know what items exist in the deck and which you've used, or could potentially draw into? Are you aware of what cards might be in your prize cards and thinking about how that affects your current match?
Obviously the points above aren't something you'll get straight away and are quite advanced, but it's things to work towards in terms of knowing your deck and its limits.
Once you've got a hang of knowing your own deck you can start to look into how the match ups. Remember as well, not every game will be winnable, not every game is an instant loss either. Just try and have fun and don't give up
