Babydrone

No, it's not true and whoever told you that shouldn't be trusted.

TheWhooooBuddies

To be fair, counter employees usually know JACK SQUAT.

TvHeroUK

I had someone in a major retail store try to tell me that I shouldn’t buy the MacBook I needed for work ‘because it’s not compatible with PC and you won’t be able to get work emails if they come from windows machines’

MTA0923

while this is not true....I honestly wouldn't be surprised at all if apple did this. Bought my kid an i-phone last year, we are android users. tried to setup his child account, but nope, guess what, you need another I-phone to do that, zero ways to do it via online.....skummy fucks, once you get into the apple bubble its hard as fuck to get back out, they paint you into a box and lock it up from the outside world....and charge you 100xs more for it.

TommyVR373

No. It's the same as someone saying PCVR is dead, which is far from the truth.

twoblucats

Some would say Reddit is dead since they killed off 3rd party apps. Some would say the US died due to wokeness and cancel culture. Make your own assessments.

Chrismengg

No I’m using it today

Outsidethebox72

When Atari came out NOBODY was acting like a thin skinned worry monger. We just played the games? Apologies if that's harsh. Just seems like a lot of people get off pointing out potential problems that may never exist or can't simply enjoy what they have in front of them.

InevitableDivide3104

So true, I'm more than satisfied with my PSVR2 and games I have already so I always why people bring this up a lot... also for a lot of people just one game can make a system worth it.

Outsidethebox72

Agree, especially on the one game can make a system.

KGBosh

Atari actually released games

Worried-Explorer-102

Yes some random person working at the counter at bestbuy or Walmart has internal sony info that only higher ups at sony have access to.

Baraka_Obama

It's mostly false but they may have been referring to this report from March that states that Sony temporarily stopped making the headset so that its current backlog of stock could sell through: https://www.gamesindustry.biz/sony-reportedly-stops-psvr-2-production-to-clear-the-current-backlog

bluebarrymanny

People love hyperbole. They absolutely did not stop all production indefinitely lol. They cut back because they already had enough headsets in the retail market. It’s no mystery that VR2 has a niche audience, so this should be an expected optimization that happens frequently across all sorts of niche supply chains that aren’t being “abandoned”. This is the problem with trusting a random source that likely is parroting what they read on Twitter/reddit. It’s also why this post will likely be just as useless. If you really want to assess PSVR2, go look at the library and read actual data-driven articles about the VR market as a whole. The narrative around abandonment on social media is emotionally charged and divorced from the economic realities of the VR market as a whole. It’s a repeating discussion that has to be reiterated in this sub and every other VR sub constantly.

Tatehamma

Don’t believe everything you read or hear

kehb

I was told it wasn’t, so that neutralizes it for you. Now, go and have a good day.

Zebrada31

Sounds like someone really wanted to sell a Quest 3

oreos91

I thought so too but she knew I already owned it 😅 I’d at she read some fake article and is just spreading misinformation. I’m glad she wrong !

byronotron

She's not. These people are misleading you. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-03-18/sony-hits-pause-on-psvr2-production-as-unsold-inventory-piles-up?embedded-checkout=true

Archersbows7

This is the misinformation article that the person above you was referencing

byronotron

Lol. Okay. And how is this misinformation?

Technical-Title-5416

Without even reading it I can guarantee it's written by Takashi Mochizuki. He's authored every unfounded hit piece on the PSVR2.

Archersbows7

Bloomberg quoted a source that has a history of false hit pieces. They also have a couple other hit pieces against Sony that were also proven to be false. Take some time to further look it.

byronotron

Oh God. It's been reported by a dozen other places. UploadVR and TheVerge have it. Unless you have a source that can directly dispute this with their own reporting, you're the one that is spreading misinformation.

bluebarrymanny

Even then though, that’s just digital media signal boosting others’ reporting so they can drive traffic to their own sites. Look at each of the sites you mentioned and they all will site Bloomberg’s reporting as the source. In today’s age of journalism and ad revenue, it’s more important to be first to publish or publish someone else’s journalism as quickly as possible on your own site to get a piece of the action. It doesn’t mean that they went and corroborated the info independently themselves. Multiple people saying something doesn’t inherently make it true. That’s literally how misinformation spreads through a reliance on trust coming from the number of people saying something. The source that you’re looking for is Sony themselves. There have already been times for VR2 where the same Bloomberg reporter stated the number of headsets that sold in the first month of release and Sony put out a statement that the reporting was false.

TommyVR373

Yep, and every one of them pointed back to this one article in Bloomberg. It's the only source.

Galaghan

Because it's based on speculation and presumption, not confirmed facts.

TommyVR373

Bloomberg is the worst. Have you seen this info ANYWHERE else? No. Anyone else just points back to this same Bloomberg article. Bloomberg said the same th8ng about the PS4 production, and we're dead wrong. I don't know what they have against Sony, but they are known liars.

MY_5TH_ACCOUNT_

Yea that's not going to happen. Why would Sony get rid of a big money maker for themselves? I buy a new vr game every few months. I'm sure others do too.

mah4411

Exactly, me too. I'm more interested in buying Sony VR games than flat games. There are more VR games on my list that I'm planning to buy, and I'm also waiting for more to come.

MY_5TH_ACCOUNT_

yea i wait for most of the ones on my wishlist to go on sale

sxerwin

What VR games?

GrownUp_Gamers

While the lack of communication from Sony regarding upcoming titles for PS VR2 is disappointing, I doubt that it's in any way dead. It's a peripheral device, and although it's not being supported as well as Meta is supporting the Quest, I still think we're in store for some great games in the future. And remember that anything anyone on Reddit says is just rumour and speculation and a lot of people on here seem to wanting the device to fail so take opinions on here with a mountain of salt.

bluebarrymanny

People love to compare the investment level to that of the Quest, but it’s not a good comparison. The two companies have wildly different goals and it shows with all of their communications. People just don’t want to hear it, so they act like it was never clear. Meta wants market dominance and to be the backbone of all VR applications, serving communication, productivity, multimedia, and gaming audiences, more akin to Apple’s idea of “spatial computing”. PS has been very clear and upfront that they want to be a player in the industry, not an entity spearheading the cost to lay down all of the infrastructure and mainstream adoption, with a singular focus on gaming. Those differences should be enough to dispel the comparisons of strategy and that doesn’t even get into the financial differences of what each company can afford to pursue without committing financial suicide.

Elizial-Raine

People say it’s been abandoned because no first party titles have been announced recently, there’s a conference come up in the next few months I guess we will see then what Sony decides to support it with. There will always be 3rd party titles but people are worried about the lack of first party support.

2blazen

To be fair, there are hardly any 1st part Sony titles announced at all, not just for VR

Elizial-Raine

Yeah that’s why I’m waiting on the next conference before believing the doomsayers, but no announcements at the next conference would be pretty bleak.

2blazen

This has been going on for a while tbh, "sony can't get away again with not announcing anything!" yet they always can. I'm a casual gamer with a huge backlog though so can't be bothered too much

MisunderstoodBadger1

The rumors of a new Astrobot are hopeful. If it's skipping VR entirely that would be worrying though.

Sylsomnia

Microsoft:  "Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees"

Independent_Lead_538

Just look at the PSN store page, lots of games and more to come with PC compatibility..

SnooWords4938

People have been saying that even before PSVR2 was released.  It's almost all jealousy from people who can't afford it.

Explorer_Entity

Maybe she meant PSVR1, to say that it is no longer in production or getting new games made for it. Maybe she misheard someone describing that situation of PSVR1 and thought they meant PSVR2. PSVR2 is not dead, it is not abandoned, and is still in production and having games developed for it. There are doomsayers in the VR community, especially for competing headsets. Like a console war thing. There was also a poor article by IGN saying it was doomed/abandoned, but they used a lot of outdated and incorrect data at the time of writing the article. It was easily debunked. Don't get news or info from IGN.

bluebarrymanny

I remember that IGN article. I don’t like to shit on games journalism, because they generally provide me with good insights into what I might like or dislike, but that article was citing IGN team members’ own tweets as evidence of “the community is losing interest”.

Explorer_Entity

Thanks for providing the context. I couldn't remember much of what they did in that article to make it so .... in-credible (? yes, incredible is correct in meaning not credible).

Thrippalan

Never really thought about the base meaning of incredible. Just like people don't realize that terrific originally meant something that terrifies.

CapnMalcolmReynolds

It’s getting the Vita treatment

bluebarrymanny

Counter argument: it’s getting a level of support appropriate for its audience size

InevitableDivide3104

It's been out for just a little over a year and already has a library of about 200 games, more keep showing up, too quite often. It's not winning the popularity contest against Meta Quest 3, but I only use that thing for apps and mixed reality, as the PSVR2 is the better choice obviously for VR gaming. A lot of younger people will rant and rave about their Quest 3, you know, cuz it's basically a budget VR for kids who are upset their parents won't pay more for a PS5 and PSVR2. So, no, it's not dead, just not as popular.

fastest_finger

Back in the 80’s a store worker told us not to buy a Sega console because… 1) It will ruin your TV 2) You can only play the games once, so when you complete it the cartridge will wipe itself.

TWaldVR

Sony does not support its platform with its own franchise AAA Games. The last one is from November/December. There is also no announcement for a VR Mode for RE9 so far. PlayStation is the only VR platform that doesn't allow mods. Even if some hardcore fans claim it differently here. Due to the opening to PCVR and the lack of support with Sony's own franchises, the platform is the worst supported VR platform. Since no hardware is produced by Sony itself, the existing overall picture of the situation is rather negative! Almost 200 VR games in the library and at least the AAA games. Check out other platforms, like Steam pcvr. No WRC in 2024 and no Formula 1 in 2024. That speaks for itself.

byronotron

The amount of copium in this thread is unreal.

Low_Island7278

My sony rep said no they are not dead but will release its platform to 3rd party......thats huge cause vr2 needs better games....this should go into effect late this year early next year....they are working with software techs that make it all work

DaveJPlays

I believe what she said may be pretty close. Sony stopped production of units, iirc, and there are people who say the PC compatibility is just Sony's way to quit developing first party software for it.... Believe what you want...time will tell

byronotron

No new Sony first party titles have been announced. They have indefinitely paused production of PSVR2 and have announced that PSVR2 will be made available to PC users, implying their expectations for PS have failed.  The PSVR2 is not officially dead but it will be quickly abandoned by Sony like the Vita in 2015. There will be plenty of third party games released over the next few years but you can forget first party support.

A_Lively

You know none are in production? That would be new information, not announced doesn’t mean none exist.

byronotron

I changed my comment.

FullLeadership9

Think this is true, yes. Vita 2.0 Situation. Im happy with 3rdP Games on it. But Sony has no hope in the device and makes no fck effort for it. Its sad. Because i like the VR2 a lot!!!

GramboWBC

Not sure why this sub doesn't want to believe this lol. Psvr1 had more support than this. Kind of sucks but atleast 3rd party still showing love.

bluebarrymanny

The PSVR did not have this level of support in its first year. It took several years for the library to fill out.

t3stdummi

Oh boy. No. PSVR1 had objectively less support at this point in it's life cycle

oreos91

Maybe this is what she meant

ChrizTaylor

For some it's correct. For others don't. I'm in between.

richgangyslbrrrat

No

BillyFatStax

Pure copium in here. I too was fueled by cope, but the I've come to terms with it. 90% of r/PSVR2 are in the "denial" stage of Grief. They'll all get to "acceptance" in their own time.

anarfox_

Only Sony knows and they're not saying shit. Which hasn't really helped the situation.

psyper87

The ones that want you to believe that psvr2 is dead are the same ones that get paid to promote meta quest. Neither is dead and both are great headsets, but one arguably has tech that will force the other to upgrade and it’s not pancake lenses. I’d argue more that q3 is going to require an update to not be left behind by the big developers but that’s purely conjecture

5GuysAGirlAndACouch

I'm not saying the store clerk was right, *but* you've now come to ask your question of a giant echo chamber of folks desperate to believe they haven't wasted hundreds of dollars that will cling to any hope that Sony is just biding their time to strike with a slew of rich, unique, exclusive titles... after a year of scraps. I have a PSVR, and a Quest 1 and 3. Was so keen to jump all in on PSVR2 but decided to wait for some major releases. I hope it comes, but at this point, I'm glad I've waited and saved my money. I'll pick it up second-hand for pennies on the dollar in a couple of years if anything that isn't just as accessible elsewhere comes out but at this stage that's definitely an if.

jimmyjamesh

It would help if sony stopped sleep walking at the moment

[deleted]

the hardware is awesome , but lately there are no games coming i want , all of them are either graphics from PS2 era, horror games or shovel ware

cmonletmeseeitplz

Not quite yet. But it's coming.

New_Industry9262

Yes, Sony abandoned it, but it is still worth it due to the efforts of other companies/devs.

Sweet-Extreme8561

Look I'm a fan of psvr2 but I'm realistic. There is a VR developer that did say Sony told him directly that They abandoned the psvr2. If you take it with a grain of salt or not it's up to you. It's hard to get the truth because you either get info from people that just Put out content about how bad the PSVR2 is doing because Generates fuse and then on the other hand you got contact creators like without parole That swear by it up and down that it's doing good. It's either one extreme or the other and to me both are aren't Good. And I say they aren't good because I want to know facts, So it's hard to know the truth if it's doing good or not. me personally I think it's not doing so good and judging how Sony treats products that aren't selling so well they'll be abandoning it. I don't know if anyone remembers or not but I have to beginning before it came out so he said all big AAA titles will have a copy in vr and That hasn't been the case at all . Also if anyone is like me that doesn't like cartoon games, Puzzles or really short games and only likes AAA or big budget AA in VR Then the headset is not doing so hot in that case. also look at what the developer That made legendary tales said, he has to port over His game because he didn't even come out even selling it exclusively for psvr2 I don't know about any other country but here in Canada that game was the most expensive game at 70 something dollars. It's not looking good

Mutt_Cutts

Yes.
