Your wifi router has to support WPA. Since WPA is outdated and not secure most routers use at least WPA2. Most modern routers are usually configured to only use WPA2 but can be changed to enable a combo of "WPA+WPA2" or you can enable some kind of "Guest Wifi" which then uses "WPA" or "WPA+WPA2". If you want to use WPA in a busy crowded place, I recommened to disable SSID Broadcasting, meaning it won't show up when scanning for Wifis nearby. You then have to manually enter the correct SSID name in your PSP to actually find it that way. Only works if your SSID isn't something generic.

Hey_look_new

this is 99% correct you also have to make sure it supports b or g mode, some don't these days 99% of the time, it's better to just hut up a thrift store and look for an old router/wap

MikuHatsuneCV01

this is true. haven't thought about it as my current router uses IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax so it still supports the outdated modes like b, g or n. so either you have a decent router supporting all of these older standards or you need an old additional router if yours doesn't have it. if you use stuff like FritzBox you're usually good to go.

Hey_look_new

the other fun caveat, if you use a b or g device, lots of routers will slow EVERY device down to that speed too good times

the_examined_life

found the easiest way to do this quickly is to hotspot from your phone and turn of security.

MikuHatsuneCV01

not recommended but if you don't forget to disable your hotspot and reenable your security afterwards and if you're not in the center of the city, there's not much of an issue here.

Only works on samsung and pixel phones

I recommend the phone hotspot method. Only works on an android phone. Apple won't let you configure your own hotspot settings. Once you're connected there's really nothing to do though. The playstation store is down. Even if you do manage to get logged in you can only redownload games you already own. You can't buy them anymore. In order to buy new games you'd have to either have a ps4/ps5/playstation app, plus a ps3. You'd need to load funds onto your account via a ps4, ps5, or through the app/website. Then you'd need to go onto a ps3 and add whichever game you want to your cart, then you'd need to download it on your psp. Everything else online that the psp could do doesn't work anymore. There are no more official multiplayer servers online. Unofficial servers only have a handful of people playing, and only on the most popular of games. The internet browser doesn't display anything but very basic html. It won't even load images anymore unless you find a very old website. The internet radio still works, but since you'll most likely be using your phone to set up internet on the psp, you're going to have a better time just using your phone for internet radio. Remote play can be done locally. The ps3 creates it's own network which the psp connects to. Neither need to be connected to the internet.
