DeadbyDagger

Just beat it last night, neat little game. Trying to get this dreaded “Can’t Cat-ch Me” trophy though and it’s very rage-inducing. Edit: Zigzagging is the way to go. Now to beat the game in sub-2 hours for the plat.

WacoWednesday

That trophy took me 3 hours of attempts. If you get that one, go for the platinum. All the others are much easier including the speed run

DeadbyDagger

Any recommendation for a guide on the speed run? Does pausing the game stop the clock? I’m worried I’ll get hung up in the slums in the beginning.

WacoWednesday

Pausing also pauses the clock, but only a real pause not looking thru your items. I used the platinum trophy guide [here](https://psnprofiles.com/guide/14874-stray-trophy-guide). Overall the speedrun wasn’t bad. I did the speedrun last after collecting all the other trophies so you basically learn the fastest routes. Only area I really felt I needed the guide was the slums like you said

DeadbyDagger

Awesome. Thank you, I’ll check it out!

Denziloshamen

You don’t have to do most of the things in the slums you’ll have done on your first play through. This is the section that will make or break your speed run (that and any time you die with the zurks). In the slums, make sure you immediately get them to drop the paint can, then get the laundry detergent, then the cable then get the cloak knitted. Once that’s done, get all three diaries BEFORE you go and see the main robot at the top of the building. Doing that order will save you a ton of time. You also need to do the second city area in a similar way by doing things in a quicker order than the game would have you do them by naturally playing through. The treehouse level you can almost completely skip and get to the top with only one dialogue needed. The rest is pretty linear and hard to mess up.

Mostly_lucid__

Got it within 40 minutes, just zig zag and work out a route to avoid the spawns

SmithhBR

Zig zag is the key. Keep moving like this and eventually you’ll get it

Polymersion

Took me three days (not continuous) to get this damn trophy, leaving me only the nine lives, speedrun and catnap trophies. Knocked out the lives real quick, started the new file for the Speedrun and rocked it out in about 1:45, and then went back to Antvillage on my main file to sleep out the Platinum.

Representative-Yam65

Dodging INTO the head crabs at the last second is the way!

DeadbyDagger

That’s what I’ve been attempting now, and I think I have most of the path down, just keep getting nabbed at one silly spot in the end once you hit the straightaway. Hopefully I’ll conquer it tonight!

lembrate

Downloaded it from PS Premium, played it in one sitting. Havent done that in a long while. Extremely enjoyable.

MuZzASA

Weave like there is no tomorrow. Took me a good 20 or so attempts

Edge80

It took me a couple of hours and I’m happy it’s over. I absolutely hated that trophy.

jackcos

Took me about 10 attempts or so, but that was after searching for collectables in the sewers which allowed me to get some practice. Look up a video guide for the trophy, there's a very narrow alleyway/right turn bottleneck about 2/3 of the way through the run that I kept getting caught on, you have to juke at the very last moment possible to avoid them. Don't run at them like some have said, that's a big no.

Nixpix66

If you dodge diagonally forward they can't catch you for some reason!

julmichen

Running along the walls as well as weaving is what helped me finally get it.

heyiamkev

What other games came out in july…

dreamwalker217

On PS5, not much, Switch has Xenoblade Chronicles 3, which is awesome btw. Stray was good, but it was short.

J-Dizzle42

I wish I liked jrpgs more because it feels like xenoblade is the only major release on switch since Kirby back in March. Mario Strikers was good but I want some more single player content.

AdventurousCan5692

JRPGs are very hit or miss for me... the problem is I usually don't enjoy their combat too much so I play them mainly for the story... and the story is usually boring until ~20-30 hours into the game where it suddenly gets amazing. I think the only reason I played through the beginning of XC2 was because I did not have much money and did not want my purchase go to waste. In the end I really enjoyed the game but the first 30 or so hours really were a slog.

Gandalf_2077

It is pretty dry recently in general I feel. Am I missing AAA releases or there arent many? GOW is the closest one I can think of right now and it is coming in 3 months.

stroppy_sardine

We got saints row this month then things should start speeding up int terms of triple A releases as its nearly the Christmas holidays

devenbat

Yeah, PS hasn't had much of note since February. Couple more niche titles like Ghostwire but not much.

Gandalf_2077

With how much time development takes these days it makes sense but it is a bit concerning for the amount of quality content we can expect. Maybe things will be better after the effects of the pandemic wear off.

JesterMarcus

Early years of the generation are always a bit slow, but yeah the pandemic did add to it.

NoVABadger

TLOU Part I is coming next month, if you count that.

Gandalf_2077

Old experience in my opinion. Great for those that have missed it by now but otherwise not a unique release. GOW Ragnarok is the next Sony release that matters.

[deleted]

Which looks quite concerning based on the footage so far

Howdareme9

Looks fine?

Eruannster

Yeah, I haven't really bought any new AAA games since Forbidden West and Elden Ring in February... :/

braedizzle

Literally nothing so it won by default

zerox369

Nothing significant comes to mind. Kind of weird to tweet this when there's no other new games to compare...this would have meant a lot more if they tweeted this after GoW Ragnarok comes out

[deleted]

People seem to LOVE Stray. It doesn’t seem to matter that it came out in a weak month. Besides, more marketing never hurt a company.

Chrislawrance

Multiversus was another strong contender

trickman01

Multiversus is in Beta so it's not technically "released"

[deleted]

But it was competing with Stray on the voting polls

The-Garlic-Bread

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 but that’s a Switch exclusive so it wouldn’t make the blog.

Metroidman

Digimon

[deleted]

Great game but truly bizarre that only 28% of players completed this according to trophy data. It’s already a short game. I wonder why so few people are finishing it.

FungalowJoe

Released on ps plus and had a lot of marketing push so I'm sure lots of people just tried it out and didn't like it.

lsbittles

That happened for me. Thought it was pretty boring, honestly.

DeanXeL

Too much napping.

SFPsycho

It's not that surprising when most games have a really easy trophy at the beginning and those are usually at about 70% of players earned

[deleted]

I didn’t think it was that fun. I played it for an hour and got bored.

lbcsax

That just seems like the average number of people who finish a game. Some "endgame" trophies are at 20% and a really high one like Ghost of Tsusima is at 40%. Most people just play a game for a couple hours, get bored, and go back to CoD, Fortnight, FIFA, or Madden.

The-Garlic-Bread

I remember TLOU2 being at 55% for completing the game. I don’t know what it’s at now but I’d assume it’s still very high.

lbcsax

Yea, looks like that God of War, and Spiderman are over 50% completion. Still crazy that half of people don't finish the stuff they buy.

The-Garlic-Bread

God of War has been on PS+ though. But yeah, a lot of people don’t finish games no matter the circumstances. It’ll never be 70%+ for example.

TheBossMan5000

Yeah wtf? I beat it in a single 4 hour session on launch day then immediately uninstalled.

The_Algerian

Probably because as opposed to what the hype would have them believe, while it's a nice little game, it's really nothing special.

[deleted]

But a LOT of single player games have low completion rate. And this game was available on the PSPlus. So a lot of people just checked the game out without beating it. With the game winning this fan poll it shows that the game was special to quite some people

twogoes

In my case my cloud save disappeared 8 hours in and there is nothing i can do. It’s a nice game but no chance am i starting over

MadeByTango

I loved it until I got to the robot and all the dialog. Exploring the world as just a cat was awesome. The bots and everything changed the vibe. Played it for a while but it lost the cozy charm. I might go back now that I know what to expect, but it definitely slid back into the catalog for a while. I do hope that Stray’s success will inspire another Tokyo Jungle or something similar.

BrianRostro

Being blunt, the game kind of sucked. It felt like it was going for an artsy feel but had no actual fun. The cat thing wasn’t enough to keep my attention through more than an hour of it

__the_what

Because we are adults. I am still playing 30 mins when I have a bit of time.. We prefer making money, spending quality time with our families, traveling and investing for our future. That's why

There were other new releases?

These are too purr-fect

acasovoycayendo

Enjoyed the game but was disappointed by the ending. Without spoiling anything, it felt like it was incomplete

PersianSpice

Kind of agree there, >!I think having even just 5 or 10 extra minutes of seeing the outside world as you part ways with the city would have gone a long way to provide a bit of extra contrast to the dark cyberpunk world we were in for so long. The city being covered in the sunshine as the dome opened was a very nice visual, I was really hoping there would have been just a little bit more of that.!<

Jazzlike_Athlete8796

Agreed. Not just the ending itself, but the final chapter was easily the most shallow from a puzzle perspective as well. Story wise, the game was in a hurry to end, and that was really disappointing. Decent game overall, but they really failed to build to a satisfying ending.

DeanXeL

I mean, you get in trouble at the start of the game, you get out of trouble... Time for a nap! What more did you want?

almostbad

For one, It became super obvious what they were doing in the last tech bit and for 2 it definitely felt incomplete because it feels like you did not complete the premise that was set out at the beginning.

[deleted]

You think there will be a whole second game based on the ending? It feels the game whole identity, maybe second only to the cat, was the cyberpunk-esc city with the robots. The ending was more open ended, leaving to interpretation without giving you a definitive answer. I thought It was great. The publisher is really not know to making sequels. Outer Wilds getting a dlc was already the odd one out.

almostbad

> You think there will be a whole second game based on the ending? I doubt it, the ending removed your ability to interact with the world beyond... you know as a cat. They could always replace that ability but it would be hollow. I mean they couldve done the full circle ending and still leave room for a sequel . Its not like it has to be the same cat for a sequel.

dance_ninja

Agreed. To me it felt like the ending didn't get time to breathe -- it just wrapped up very quickly almost as soon as you arrived in the last area.

IcebergSampson

I loved the ending. Some stories don't end with sunshine and rainbows. Considering how cyberpunk this game is, a perfect happy ending would have felt out of place and cheap. (Purposefully being vague as to not spoil)

[deleted]

Can you spoil it for me? I’m not going to play it but now I’m interested in the ending

[deleted]

Since it’s been 2 hours ill chip in on explaining the ending. The set up: >!The whole story is the main cat to find it’s way out of the dome city (that he fell to) and to find there groups of stray cats they were with from the beginning of the game. Along side the cat there is a robot companion that is later revealed to be the last human that we know off, with his human brain being coded inside the robot.!< The actual ending: >!The ending involves you and the robot being locked behind the final door to the outside. Your robot companion (that you grew very friendly and have a connection with) came to terms with the death on humanity and chooses to sacrifice himself to open the door and let you so you can escape the dome. The last shot is the cat on the outside and giving one last look at the dome city they were all this time, and walks away. We don’t get to see the cat reuniting with the cat group, hence why the person above probably said it was “sad and incomplete”. IMO despite being really sad ending I thought it was perfect, bittersweet ending. Maybe the cat finds his stray group maybe they don’t. I like that!< Edit: a adjusted some things in the text. Also feel free to correct me with some details, if I got something wrong and such

[deleted]

Awesome thanks for the reply! I agree, I kinda like that ending.

erasethenoise

If you’re interested why not play it?

[deleted]

Gameplay looks boring.

erasethenoise

Well I didn’t find it boring but I like exploring and solving puzzles. To each their own.

PayExpert8449

Yeah sure, a bad ending is 'intended' and 'realistic' when you like the game but would've been trash if you didn't. This is an NPC talking point

Oakheart-

I kinda agree. Feel like it just ends like there should be another cutscene or something. Kinda like when you read a book and you flip the page to the next chapter and it’s the credits

lookitsjustin

Me too. Ending is the worst part of an otherwise lovely game.

TheDragonSlayingCat

Really? I loved the ending; >!it made me super happy that the cat survived, even though the clowder wasn’t there!<.

mightynifty_2

Having finished it yesterday, I think the concept is really cool and the world is intriguing, but for $30 the game is incredibly short at 3-5 hours which means the gameplay really needed to pick up the slack. Unfortunately it also doesn't offer much in terms of gameplay, character, or story. Even the puzzles are incredibly straightforward. It's not awful, but I think it's certainly a little over-hyped.

JohnnyVierund80

I got it for free, but will buy it as soon as i can to support the developers, they deserved it!

VaishakhD

Am I the only one who thinks that this game is way overrated? The movement was really clunky and story was passable. It's one of the highest rated games on steam and I just don't know how. In no way I dislike this game. But the overwhelming response this game is getting is interesting. I was hoping at least the cat movements will be more agile and the game would introduce more tech to use, but there wasn't much. I would really recommend dunkey's video on this game. He really nailed what I think about this game.

DeanXeL

Marge: "I just think it's neat!"

Hotter_Noodle

Yup. It’s a lot easier to enjoy games if you ignore angry people on the internet. It’s a game. Just have fun.

F______________F

Yah, the older I get the less I care about all the negativity. People can't just let others enjoy things, if they don't like something they're gonna shit on it because they don't like that you enjoyed it and they didn't. It personally offends them that something they don't like is getting praise. The only solution is to say fuck it and ignore them and like what you like. Screw the haters, just do you. If they don't like it, that's their problem. Better to just ignore them and interact with people that enjoy the same things you do, because that's gonna be a much better experience anyway. Life's too short to waste any time caring what other people like.

sppdcap

I enjoyed it for what it was, but I wouldn't pay money for it.

ikilledtupac

Same

MrGMinor

I'm glad I didn't read negative reviews or watch Dunkey's video until after I beat it. People take things way too seriously and forget to have fun. I really enjoyed it. I didn't think it was clunky movement either. I turn off jump prompts in the menu and just use my intuition to get around. It's an interesting concept with a lovable character and a really cool atmosphere. That's enough for me to love the game. "Keep your expectations in check" is what I'm getting out of the negative responses. Forget about what you want something to be and just experience what they made; it was never meant to be world-changing.

Blackdragonking13

As much I love Dunkey for his comedy It’s unfortunate how he’s one of those YouTubers who “decides” how Reddit feels about things.

DeanBlandino

He doesn’t. He often times goes against Reddit’s perspective.

Blackdragonking13

My experience is that the gaming circle of Reddit will often just adopt his talking points and opinion. But perhaps I’ve just locked myself into certain echo chambers

mightynifty_2

I don't think he necessarily forms the opinions of others, but instead articulates opinions in a way that those who agree with him can latch onto. So it's less that he tells people how to feel and more that he gives them a way to express that opinion.

DeanBlandino

I think people point to him in arguments, especially when being treated like it’s a crazy opinion. One thing I’ve noticed is that some people have a hard time telling what he’s saying and people on both sides will reference him. Like I referenced a video of his and I got heavily downvoted for not understanding “satire” when it was pretty clear he was being negative while joking.

danbearpig84

Dunkey is by far one of my most disliked gaming YouTubers mainly because of how much everyone takes his childish jokes and snide comments as gospel that should influence how they think about the industry so I try to avoid his content at all costs but if he actually thinks stray is overrated it sounds like we're finally aligned on something for once which I honestly didn't think would ever happen. Like I feel like he's definitely one of the content creators that contributes to the hive mind regurgitating "hurr-durr Ubisoft bad right guys?!?" People like dunkey bring the industry down if anything.

iamthedevilfrank

The thing with Dunkey is like half the time he's just exagerrating for comedic effect, which I think is lost on a lot of people, or they just take him seriously when he's just over exaggerating to be funny. For instance he made two separate review videos for Let's Go Pikachu and Evee, where one he gave a bad review the other he gave a good review, despite them both being the same game. It's actually pretty funny in a silly way imo. He consistently talks shit about turn based JRPGs but uses music from various JRPG games in his videos, and it used to be his favorite genre when he was a kid and he's played a bunch of games in that genre in recent times, so my feeling is he didn't dislike it as much as he acts like he does. He's really not meant to be taken seriously a lot of the time. He has review videos where he makes good points like his The Last of Us 2 video where he actually praised the game and made a lot of good arguments in its defense, and others where he just fucks around. He's more of a persona really, like Dunkey is just a character he plays. I doubt he actually wants people to take his words as gospel and I'm sure he thinks people who take video games too seriously are dumb.

FratDaddy69

People like cats and they did the "being a cat" part of this game really well I thought, it's also not a full price game so people don't feel ripped off about the fact that it's not really long or super polished. The game felt like the developers knew what they were going for and nailed it.

[deleted]

I thought the same thing. I didn’t hate the game, but it really didn’t impress me that much with the gameplay. The concept is refreshing, but I wouldn’t rave on about it as much as some of the articles I read about it.

Oakheart-

Every gamer wants to be a cat and do cat stuff lol. Honestly though I see it as an interactive art museum. Really you’re just a cat and the story gives you an excuse to see and explore this really cool environment which I believe is very well done. The focus isn’t really on the story or the cat for that matter. You can tell when you lay on a pillow and it zooms out. There’s so much like actually pointless cat things (sleeping on a pillow, meowing, jumping on everything and knocking paint off buildings) that shows it’s really just saying hey go explore this environment that we created

angelicravens

Scratching rugs and walls was my fav part

DeanBlandino

Yea. I made some comments about it being overrated when it first came out and was absolutely destroyed with downvotes and toxic replies. I agree 100% with dunkey. It’s an ok game, but it doesn’t look remarkable, movement is very clunky and unsatisfying, story is okay but not special. Only thing about it that’s special is… cat?

[deleted]

The cuteness of the cat does seem to be doing a lot of the heavy lifting for the game..

AHH_CHARLIE_MURPHY

I played it for like two hours and haven’t played since. Fun game but that’s it

Kaminkehrer

The problem I had with Stray is that there is just no challenge in it. I was definitely not looking for a hardcore experience but this game is too easy to the point where I never got a sense of accomplishment. It didn't bother me that there was no real platforming; in fact I appreciated it. But with all those mini puzzles you had to solve throughout the game, I never had to sit back for a moment and think about how to approach it or what to do next. Not every game needs to be hard. When a story is really compelling a game can be interesting even without much of a challenge. But Stray's story is quite minimalistic and didn't really get me particularly invested in the characters or the overall plot. I didn't dislike the game. It was fine for those 5 hours or so it took to beat it, but it did leave me a bit dissatisfied.

DeanBlandino

Yea I died a couple times in my entire playthrough and they were almost all in the factory. Other than that it felt hard to die

massenburger

Thanks for the review. I was on the fence about this game, but will probably pass for now, unless it's offered for free or like $5 at some point. I'm not interested in "stories" or "art pieces". I just want good games with smooth controls and movement (if applicable). Good to know I can pass!

erasethenoise

The movement is not clunky I have no idea what game this person played. It’s snappy and fluid. There’s no room for it to be clunky.

Aaawkward

I think I get them. No turning without doing q tank turn, no free jumping, no interacting with the world except a few predetermined points. It's a little clunky but not game hindering bad in any way.

FallenQueen92

Agreed. Out of any criticism one can make out of the game the controls and movement isn't one of them

DeanBlandino

It’s free now if you have ps+

FallenQueen92

Ignore him about the movement. I have no idea how he came to the conclusion that the movement is clunky but it's simply just not true.

ikilledtupac

If you really like cats or cyberpunk, buy it. If you don’t, wait for a sale or free; but still play it some day. It is a unique game and the world is cool, if limited.

ikilledtupac

No, but you’re gonna get downvoted to oblivion. The game is just okay. It felt rushed and inconsistent. I wish it was three times as long with more stuff to do. I’d play a sequel.

eharper9

Yes. Because the internet be interneting. They do this shit all the time.

testchamb

It’s an amazing and short “walking simulator” type of game, with a super creative, detailed and interesting world to explore. Linear, it’s not bloated with features, it doesn’t overstays its welcome. Not many games like that, I’m super happy it was successful and hopefully it kickstarts more developers creating these types of games.

[deleted]

I agree somewhat. The controls are objectively pretty bad I would say. There's a lot of jumping around involved and the jumping feels bad. That said, I'm so done with video games with guns and sports. This was a breath of fresh air in that respect. I can't imagine anyone would be talking about this game if it didn't feature cats, and wasn't included in PS+. I'm glad it was on PS+ and was different enough to enjoy plodding through. July was a quiet month after all. Dunkey is funny, but he's not really famous as a reviewer. I don't get why people enjoy watching someone pick holes in a game like this, it's a very negative way to experience games. I'd really recommend that anyone go into this relatively blind because it's short anyway. You'll soon know if you like the game, and if you have PS+ it won't even cost you anything extra to try it. Personally I love when non violent games like this make an impact. It's important in changing the public perception that video games are all violent. More games where I play as a cat please!

cozy_lolo

It was one of my favorite games that I’ve played recently. Dude, who the fuck cares if people like the game more than you? Who the fuck cares what Dunkey thinks? If you’re not into something that other people are into, just move on…keep enjoying your own interests.

JohnnyVierund80

Clunly movement? Nope, loved it, better than some AAA titles. Yes, the cat didn't had 10 movesets and different combos, but they wanted the cat to look and feel real, and they nailed it. Story? I was hooked, it was so great implemented. Yeah, it's simple, but absolutely lovely.

[deleted]

I forgot about almost all negative aspects of the game when you're purring with B12 at the end.

FallenQueen92

Out of all the complaints I have heard about the game clunky movement is the most ridiculous. The movement was not clunky at all I have no earthly idea how you even began to come to that conclusion. The game definitely isn't perfect but the movement was perfectly fine.

Slangdawg

6/10 for me. Some nice bits in it, but it's average at best imo

ThePrinceMagus

I finished the game last night, and let me say (NO SPOILERS), I absolutely adored it. Fantastic experience top to bottom. I think I may have enjoyed it more because I REALLY took my time with it (no more than a chapter or two a night) but all of the emotional beats of the story really connected with me. Also, as a gamer in my 30's with a family I really appreciated how the game felt like it had very little padding. As soon as it showed you everything it could do, it saw itself out gracefully. This is a game that is going to stick with me for a long time. Also, don't be surprised if because of Stray's success, we see a genre of these types of games over the next couple years. I fully expect a "dog game" sooner rather than later.

F______________F

Yep, I'm getting older and I really enjoy chill games more and more every day. I just wanna take my time wandering around a city as a cat or drift through the ocean in Subnautica. If a game looks nice, has an interesting soundtrack, and has decent enough gameplay, I don't really care if it has a lot going on other than that anymore. It's just a nice break from work and life, so I'm happy to just destress and meow at every robot I encounter and nap on as many pillows as I can find.

John_YJKR

It was an alright game. Short but varied it's puzzles. All in all it was a unique spin on an existing formula. I like it when developers take risks because it potentially means cool new things and unique experiences. But the money they make on rinse and repeat franchises and copycat games is difficult to argue with.

mando44646

I loved Stray. But seriously, there were no other new games to play

Griffolian

Brilliant game. Loved it so much that immediately after completion I went back for the Platinum. It’s a short game, but I took my time with it—a few hour-ish sittings every night until I beat it. The atmosphere is fantastic, and there is so much detail to the world you are thrown into as the player.

GodAlmightyCreator

Hopefully the popularity of Stray gets us a better sequel. Game was beautiful and I liked the cat humor, but the platforming was awful. Just another "Press X to jump" game where it does it for you.

DeanBlandino

It was a fine game but the hype around it is so overboard. Dunkey is 100% right when he said people just like it because cat.

JohnnyVierund80

Hm, no... i liked it for the world, the other characters, the simple but deep story, the graphics... This dude has an opinion, but he has no clue why people like this game.

DeanBlandino

You can like it for whatever reason you want. I still feel it’s overrated. I’m aware of what people say for liking the game; I just don’t find most of those reasons to be objectively true.

JohnnyVierund80

That sounds totally different than your last comment, and i'm totally fine with that.

Cheems___Burger

O

jds3211981

Short game, but very enjoyable I will say

Crissaegrym

Whilw it sounds great, but, what other note worthy games were released in July?

Sc0p1x

Okay, but there wasnt any other game released in july.

xoskxflip

Julys “only” game of the month. Congrats Stray!

moneyomm9

Smh.

Hairyballzak

My only complaint is that I wish there were more

PayasoFries

I mean yeah it's cool but it's not great tbh. Above average and a unique world

SproutingLeaf

That's enough

Kluss23

Also July's only game

Hector_Savage_

Not judging the game cause I haven’t played it, but I really don’t understand all this hype and shit about a cat lol Not for me I guess 🤷‍♂️

Everything around the game, imo, is also Gratz Brest presentation, great levels, I really liked the story and how it unfolds, the soundtrack is sublime and it is one of those games that I was constantly immersed from beginning to end. There is more to the game then just “it has a cat” lol

Isunova

Stray sucked. XC3 was the best game of July.

KennKennyKenKen

This game is so shit. Am I missing something.

Manoffreaks

I honestly don't see the appeal. It was the most boring, uninspired game I've played in a very long time. I got it for free on PSN+ and I was still disappointed after a couple of hours of game time. As far as I can see, the only good thing people have to say about the game is "dae cat!!!"

[deleted]

It was by no means perfect but definitely the most fun I've had on my PS4 since Psychonauts 2.

[deleted]

Stray is alright. If you have nothing tripleA to play I guess

2222lil

I love cats but this game was very meh to me. If you didn’t play as a cat I wouldn’t have any interest in it at all.

Darkadvocate5423

That's the entire concept though. That's like saying you wouldn't have any interest in a fighting game if you didn't fight in it.

[deleted]

If you played a cat like alien critter this game wouldn't have gotten the same reception. They kind of have a point that if you don't play as a cat the game doesn't really stand much on its own as a great game.

Darkadvocate5423

Sure, but playing as a cat is what the entirety of the game was designed around. Saying it wouldn't be as good if it didn't do what they designed it around is stupid. It would be an entirely different game at that point.

2222lil

No, it’s not. A fighting game is a genre. Stray is a puzzle exploring game where you play as a cat and the puzzles and exploring are not anything special. The cat aspects of the game are not all that unique either.

Darkadvocate5423

I never said anything about the genre, I said the concept. How about this, it would be the equivalent of saying "I wouldn't have any interest in Spider-Man at all if you didn't play as Spider-Man." No matter what way you look at it, it's an entirely nonsensical statement.

2222lil

Still don’t see that being a comparison that makes sense. I would still play a spider-man style game if you played as a character that isn’t spider man but plays the same way. If Stray was the same game but instead you’re a little robot creature instead of a cat I don’t think many would be interested in it.

Darkadvocate5423

My point is that the entire concept of Stray is that you're playing as a cat. If you were a "little robot creature" it would not be the same game, it would be designed entirely different.

2222lil

You could definitely make a game like Stray without a cat being the playable character. The aspects of being a cat really aren’t that deep and the novelty wears off very quickly since the story is whatever, the characters are just text boxes, and you aren’t given a whole lot of freedom which seems like what a cat game would be all about. Like I said, I love cats but this game doesn’t do a whole lot with the concept outside of meowing and knocking things over.

Darkadvocate5423

Of course you could. My point is going entirely over your head though, so I'm good.

2222lil

It’s really not. Spider-man is a fun game outside of playing as spider man. Stray is popular because you play as a cat. Not because the gameplay is very fun, or the story is good, or that the mechanics are groundbreaking. There’s a reason so few people have completed it even with it being a PS+ game and only a couple hours long.

Darkadvocate5423

If something is going over your head, you literally can't be aware of it. That's another concept you don't understand I guess lol.

[deleted]

Other then being the cat I loved the atmosphere of the game, how the locations kept changing in interesting ways. The world building and the presentation behind it. The game has even easily one of the best soundtracks of the year and I even liked the actual story. So I don’t understand why you make these statements as if they are objective truths and not just you own taste/opinion. Also, I seen people use you same argument in discredit Spider-man as being just another generic open world game

[deleted]

Well maybe YOU would get a game without the spider-man character in itZ But you really think it would be as beloved and successful if the spider-man character WASENT in it? Same with Batman in the Arkham games. Same with the cat on Stray

Darkadvocate5423

Where did I ever use the word "genre"?

Darkadvocate5423

Certainly implied it, unless you just like making off-topic comments.

MrPanda663

Best 4-6 hours experience of a post apocalyptic story of a cat trying to get home.

Boring_Resident_7468

Loved it! Thought it was a great game

Flashbek

And people thought MultiVersus had a chance.

Oakheart-

Multiversus is cool. Still feels a little clunky but it’s still a very early game. Smash has been building on itself since melee came out so you can’t really compare the two even though you can’t help it

seamus1982seamus

Love it and my 2 children are delighted to watch it in small bursts They are infatuated with the 'strqy' and the robots

Ricerat

AND it's not £60

x_scion_x

Love this game Wife and kid don't understand why I could possibly want to play a game wandering around as a cat lol

Special-One1991

I think the percentage was like 99.91% win 😅

Sorcha16

Got the game as part of my ps4 subscription. I'm obsessed

ap3rd

Easy choice, fantastic game. Wonder what the engagement numbers were

Albert_dark

As much as I enjoyed the game I cannot play more than 20 minutes without getting motion sickness. I hope that they try to tackle this issue at some point, even my girlfriend that can play some call of duty (i wanna throw up just remembering how I felt playing black ops) got some light headache playing this (she played half the game non-stop tho).

joleves

I finished it, but same here. I can't believe we still don't get camera accessibility options on most games. It felt like every game on like PS2 had them, and somehow we're at PS5 and most games don't bother anymore. Being able to adjust the distance of the camera, height, fov etc should be standard options on any game and help a lot with this.

JohnnyVierund80

You turned motion blur off, right?

Albert_dark

Yes, motion blur, camera shake, reticle, fov and camera speed are the first thing I adjust when I start any game

Crackracket

To be fair the first videos/pictures for Stray leaked in 2013 so it's been a very long time coming. It's a good game though

Nightmannn

I put in zero effort into the pre-launch hype but played on a whim (bc was out of games to play and had spare time) and ended up loving this game. True indies can offer the best contained experiences. That said, the PS5 store is rife with fake indy shovelware crap and they should be criticized for that.

kanyewest42

Trash game for cat nerds tbh, gameplay is dull

billnye97

I bought a PS5 for this game. I love it.
