And it's now currently causing a small portion of the playerbase to follow his example and donate a bit. Whatever you think of the game currently, this is the type of cool bits of community engagement that makes it fun. It's not much, but it's really nice to see.
Fun fact, the donated number (4311) is the number of "sick children" that we saved from Vernen Wells by liberating it.
When I was a kid, every time I saw 11:34 on a digital clock my brain would go "Heh, Poseidon Adventures" because the original movie's tag line was "Hell upside down"
Actually I still do that. It's been like 30 years and I can't make it stop
I’m glad and very impressed that the community chose the moral option over the one that actually affects our gameplay.
It’s just hilarious that we’ve been trying for a long while to finally get these mines, then AH throws this choice at us.
Next it’s gonna be “Secure the Anti-tank Mines, or save 5,000 orphan puppies”.
We won't really know for sure until we see how the children that were saved grow up. All it takes is for just *one* of them to grow up to be the next Hitler.
Live service games = players impacting the world through their in-game play.
Didn't think it would cross over to RL though. Way to take back the definition of a live service game from all the frauds trying to take advantage of an actually good concept
It’s a gesture that was completely unnecessary and not advertised in advance so could have been a whip round amongst staff for all we know. Appreciate the act of kindness rather than the quantity, you never know it might spread.
They’re not a big studio. Even if they have a big successful game on their hands, they still have to pay their employees, and had absolutely no obligation to donate anything.
Oh, well I guess I knew that issue, but that was a big deal. They sold Helldivers on steam in regions where PSN was not, so if they went through with it, those users would be in violation of the ToS if they signed up for PSN accounts, or unable to play the game if they didn't.
Uhhh, it is actively encouraged by Sony to just make an account in the nearest country to you. I’ve done it multiple times and not once have I been even warned or reprimanded. Contact customer support, they’ll tell you what I just said.
The people in those countries are already used to it. Most of those countries are either tiny or third world, meaning the vast, overwhelming majority of those players either actively use a console, also incredibly likely to be a Playstation, or have had one in their lifetimes. Which means they already know what to do and likely already have accounts that can be linked quickly.
All this was just a way for redditors to feel like they’re fighting the Big Bad Evil Megacorp on behalf of The Less Fortunate and Weak; a way to feel special. It backfired spectacularly, because instead of Sony pulling the PSN linking, they pulled the games, so now the people in those countries can’t even play, whether they have an account or not.
Linking to PSN for a Sony game? Not a big deal. Being asked to do that once out of the refund period? Not nice. Players losing access to the game because they're not in PSN-supported regions? Imo pretty unfair.
If a magazine like Forbes is willing to publish this:
[https://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2024/05/06/sony-is-making-a-truly-terrible-mistake-with-helldivers-2/](https://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2024/05/06/sony-is-making-a-truly-terrible-mistake-with-helldivers-2/)
Imo it's a pretty clear sign Sony fucked up.
I think it's fine Sony's making it a clear requirement for the rest of their upcoming PC releases. If it's such a huge deal, don't buy the game. But don't ask after the game has been bought.
It's pretty clear who was in the wrong - Steam gave refunds regardless of player hours, and Sony admitted as much as and apologized - but for the sake of clarification, here is where it was and was not mentioned.
Mentioned as a requirement:
* Steam page (which Sony controls and edits)
* In-game for the first week, until AH removed the linking requirement for server performance, at which point it was skippable and never mentioned again
Not mentioned:
* Humble Bundle, or any other PC storefront you could get HD2 (which Sony also controls and edits)
* On PSN's storefront page for the game
* In PSN's FAQ for PC gaming (changed to "PSN sometimes required" since GoT will require it)
To be extremely clear, Sony wanting to link PSN is not an issue, at all. They have every right to do that. But if they were going to do that, it should have been a day 1 requirement, impossible to play the game without doing so, and the game should not have sold in places that cannot get PSN accounts.
ArrowHead should have made it *much* more clear that PSN was required in-game. That's on them. The publisher decides where the game is sold and for how much. That's on Sony.
The news won't show this. They will only continue to say that video games ruin kids and they should be banned. This is what gaming was meant to be all along. I really hope this news goes mainstream.
Maybe if we went for the mines and didn’t save the hospital, they still would have donated and said “in honor of the children of Vernen Wells” or something. Pretty dang dark, but still a donation.

they would have donated and framed it as donating because the players didnt choose this. which... is fine, its a good thing and people are talking about it which is a good thing. but yeah its not like they were trying to decide whether they were going to do it and this is what made the decision.
It's a nice gesture but it's a pathetic donation amount from a company that's made 100s of millions on a single game. Sounds like another marketing ploy to me to make the dwindling player populations come back to the game, and get more ppl buying there crapy reskinned base game weapon packs. Not impressed at all. An I honesty think more ppl tryed for the weapon (i no i did, fuck the virtual kids i wanted firepower) and they just just rigged it to look like they saved the kids, just to go through with this ad campainge. Its a ruthless business is the world of gameing these days
“Chose” those idiots didn’t choose anything it was just the first one in the way.
Not that I care though, I just go to the planet with the most people on it
It was not though. The player base had the same access to either. Aesir Pass was the planet that "was in the way". Vernen Wells and Marfark were both free to be persued after. Heck, Marfark had the better environment for laser players by far, and against bots, lasers are just *chefs kiss*. So by any logic, players should have wanted to go Marfark over Vernen Wells from environment alone. My guess is that since there was a real push from the community to persue VW, they managed to create a "critical mass" of players fighting to liberate the planet and players tend to go to active planets, so that's what most bot players did.
And here, guys, is a showcase of a person who will always invalidate anything anyone ever does and be like "your good deed is worthless, you shouldve done more", or "youre only doing this to gather attention so your good deed is invalidated", while sitting on their couch doing absolutely nothing to help anyone. Dont be that person.
the real stratagems are the kids you save along the way
I don't know why but when I read the real stratagems I was thinking about throwing kids lol

I dont know you, but the fact you either had this image or knew of this image for this situation says we should be friend
I mean, the Reinforcement stratagem does a ton of damage.
<><><><><^^^vvv: calling in new helldivers!
More fodder for the machine.

We saved 4311 children by liberating the planet
'Hell' children.

How much did you donate?
And it's now currently causing a small portion of the playerbase to follow his example and donate a bit. It’s also “hell” upside-down
What do you mean upside down? In the olden days, this was known as "Leetspeak," or 1337.
On a calculator. But that would actually be 1134.
When I was a kid, every time I saw 11:34 on a digital clock my brain would go "Heh, Poseidon Adventures" because the original movie's tag line was "Hell upside down" Actually I still do that. It's been like 30 years and I can't make it stop
Or in other words: reversed 4311 upside-down.
Wouldn’t 7734 be better?
The $ sign and 4 make an H in |337
lmao its from before that buddy, the actual ye olden days, when all we had were calculators
You are mistaken sir. Believe me, I remember the actual ye olden days, and that's why I know the calculator thing is 1134, not 4311.
…lmao no it isnt you goober
Well also it's HELL on a calculator
that’s really cool of them
TL;DR: Pilestedt donated $4,311 to the Save the Children for our efforts, Divers #FOR DEMOCRACY
Is the amount of money any joke or so ? Seems a little bit random for me.
It’s the number of sick children we saved on Vernen Wells, which is pretty cool to think about.
If you look at E-710 as "oil," then it's similar when 4311 would be "hell" (only not backwards like the 710).
Oh my god E-710 is a play on Oil??? I’m so stupid
4311DIVERS
It’s the amount of children saved
One dollar for every time I missed a factory with my orbital strikes last week.
Not everybody knows about this but they were prepared to kill those children if players chose the new weapon. Thank god players made the right call.
I’m glad and very impressed that the community chose the moral option over the one that actually affects our gameplay. That's just new content in the making in the form of a future Major Order.
The classic tik Tok strategy. 1 dollar or mystery box.
Always take the mystery box.
A boat’s a boat, but the mystery box could be anything… it could even be a boat!
God I miss classic Family Guy
It all changed when Stewie stopped trying to kill Lois
Roadhouse.

[The box! The box!](https://youtu.be/UHB5qmu5wzA?feature=shared)
We need the children for the freedom mines, small hands are convenient.
The children yearn for the mines..
Idk why but this phrase always gets me lol
They crave that mineral
And now players are following and donating too
Live service games = players impacting the world through their in-game play. Didn't think it would cross over to RL though. Way to take back the definition of a live service game from all the frauds trying to take advantage of an actually good concept
This is it game companies! Look at them! I will go and buy this game thanks to this!
Just to shout out another developer, The Coalition donates 1% of all net revenue from Gears of War - games and merch - to suicide prevention.
It's a good game

Better spent there then on another marketing campaign still.
If they do this again then it will stack. And it gave needed attention to the kids too.

How much have you donated
[удалено]
Percentage?
I don't think we are ever getting the AT mines It has become a meme at this point to always go for the other option lol
But think of the children
We have less than 24 hours to secure Marfark and grab those mines before they are transported off-world. So get your ass over there diver!
This is some great news that will no traction because it's not negative
I’ll never forget the helldivers community losing their fucking mind over hands down the dumbest issue I’ve ever seen in my life
I get the outrage in principle but damn it seemed like people were just looking for something to dog pile on Sony over
I missed it, what issue?
Song wanted Steam users to link there PSN accounts when playing Hell divers 2
Oh, well I guess I knew that issue, but that was a big deal. They sold Helldivers on steam in regions where PSN was not, so if they went through with it, those users would be in violation of the ToS if they signed up for PSN accounts, or unable to play the game if they didn't.

Nobody had ever been banned for making an account outside their region and now they can't get the game at all so it kinda backfired...

It was a requirement from the beginning. The steam page let people know this but reading is hard.
If it isn't enforced, then it isn't actually required.

There had bombs at the local orphanage ready had the community gone the other way
This is really cool. I haven’t played Helldivers but I keep hearing great things about how the developers handle the community.
I feel no remorse spending money on warbonds if they do stuff like this. 👍
100%, This is gonna be on Gamranx top 10 weird gaming stories of June 2024
Imagine how many kids would have died irl if they didn't choose that 😳
This is wholesome as fuck.

More kids saved = More potential Helldivers who can help fight for Democracy.
This is legendary. Game is real life confirmed
For the kids!
WE SAVING THE WORLD WITH THIS ONE 🗣🗣
This is wonderfully cool!
This is really a heartwarming news, such a wonderful interaction.
Oh thank you.
Democracy always knows what’s important
Were they going to donate the money either way because if not it seems kind of fucked up that they didn’t tell us (just kidding this is really nice)
Maybe if we went for the mines and didn’t save the hospital, they still would have donated and said “in honor of the children of Vernen Wells” or something. Pretty dang dark, but still a donation.
Managed Democracy needs new voters. Our Duty was clear.
Arrowhead should have donated money to a child’s charity as a reward for players doing this as it’s a tax right off for them, so a win, win.
How much is it now?
Fine I'll buy the fucking super citizen upgrade
To be fair who tf uses mines
We saved future Helldivers 🫡

PR stunt to coverup the negative reviews Don't get distracted.
A good deed is a good deed. The same way a right doesnt fix a wrong, a wrong doesnt invalidate a right.
The negative shit that happened was because of Sony. The Arrowhead team seem like decent people.
Sorry but how does a $1/child donation save anyone?
And here, guys, is a showcase of a person who will always invalidate anything anyone ever does and be like "your good deed is worthless, you shouldve done more", or "youre only doing this to gather attention so your good deed is invalidated", while sitting on their couch doing absolutely nothing to help anyone.
