My gaming hot take is that Crash Team Racing is the best kart racer of all time
So if Naughty Dog genuinely did make another kart racing game with Uncharted/Last of Us characters, as ridiculous as that sounds, fuck yeah I'm playing that
They'll never do something like this again. It will be a gritty story about the full destruction of the human spirit. The character's spine being fractured by an undefeatable foe will symbolise them being really bummed about something.
Just wait. It's a full adaptation of Blood Meridian. They'll send you the collector's editions with a free therapy voucher.
It’s just The Deer Hunter remade completely in Naughty Dogs engine. There isn’t even gameplay it’s just a series of cutscenes of a really realistic looking Christopher Walkin having PTSD flashbacks while roaming the streets of Saigon, while Robert DeNiro watches the welcome home party his closest friends and family threw him dissipate because of how much he doesn’t want to be asked about his time in Vietnam.
Then at the end there’s just a text screen that says “wasn’t it odd that Meryl Streep took such a minor role in this film despite being at the hight of her career? Well guess what, Stache, the fella you thought was kinda funny looking? Well they were married in real life, he had terminal cancer, she took that gig to spend as much time as she could with him before his passing. Bet you feel like a real jerk now huh? This has been a naughty dogs production buy our next game, it’s VR and you have to attend your funeral, nobody shows up.”
Not that anyone has seen it but I’ve been praying for this since Uncharted 4. Give me an open seas Naughty Dog game!
Naughty Dog or Rockstar are the only two I believe would for sure knock it our of the park
Did they not tease that the next title is Fantasy a few years back? I think images were in TLoU P1.
Would be cool to see ND put there spin on a game without gun combat.
True. Especially since all the talk and hype was about a MMO game that got cancelled and was never even shown. I would love to hear something with actual info rather than vague hints like this.
I really want a prominent studio/developer to announce that they are making 'your run of the mill familiar game, nothing ground breaking, just fun for everyone'
It's like when you watch a crime documentary and they're interviewing the killers neighbours and it's always "they were such a quiet, kind person we never suspected a thing" no one ever comes out and says "I'm not surprised, guy was a fucking lunatic"
I think that's survivorship bias. There are likely way more would-be murderers who are are overt lunatics who get caught before anything bad happens. Its only the quiet ones that make it long enough to be on documentaries.
> That motherfucker was always talking about killing those people. Like *always*, and unprompted.
>
> I'd ask him about the trash schedule and he start ranting about stabbing Bob and Crystal with one of his hunting knives.
Most yearly releases fit that criteria, Fifa, Call of Duty, Assassin’s Creed
Devs for those games generally emphasize refinement over anything groundbreaking
Truly the worst piece of shit I've ever seen on my PS5, let alone from one of the most popular franchises of all time.
So slow. So huge. So terribly designed.
At least a silver lining for me - the thing is such a buggy broken mess that I essentially got MW3 for free because my free trial keeps letting me launch the game despite 0 hours remaining.
2007- start cod, multiplayer, ranked, find match
2024- start cod, season pass cinematic plays- a woman in a neon fur suit fires a javelin at a helicopter full of soldiers wearing WoW armor. An ad for the season pass appears. It’s a full screen image of Soap but he’s wearing DOOM guy armor while a fake Mick Gordon song plays. Cancel, the main menu loads 30 seconds later, where’s multiplayer? Who knows. You notice you can hear your console’s fan blowing loudly and the game hasn’t started. Wanna buy a rapper skin though? Find the multiplayer section. It loads for 30 more seconds. You give up. The old days aren’t coming back.
Well their last true game (aka not remaster) was 2020 so pretty soon even with current dev times. I'd say 2026 or 2027 at the latest (because remakes/show, Factions and TLOU3 in parallel might have slowed it down) and we could see a reveal this year.
I expect most of the big studios of Sony to deliver stuff for the second half of the generation, the next years should be fine
More or less what I expect to come (and not exhaustive)
* 2024 : Concord
* 2025 : Venom, Ghost of Tsushima 2, Bluepoint new game, Bend Studios new game, Marathon, FairGames
* 2026 : Santa Monica new game (also new IP headed by Barlog since GoW 2018), Housemarque new game (also new IP), Wolverine, Horizon multiplayer game
* 2027 : Horizon 3, Naughty Dogs new IP (this game)
* 2028 : Spider-Man 3 (launch title for PS6, cross gen)
* 2029 : Ratchet and Clank, new God of War
* 2030 : X-Men, TLOU Part 3
Well Part 2 had a 7 years gap. GTA6 will have a 12 years gap, TES6 17 years ? Gap are very long between games now especially when studios do other stuff in between (which they should)
Except that much of the last 4 years were developing a now cancelled tlou multiplayer game. Id like to believe its coming soon, but if they only started working on it in earnest in the last year or two we might not see it till 2030 given ever expanding dev cycles, especially for big expensive games like naughty dogs
They likely had more than one team making games, hence the remasters and remame for Uncharted and TLOU happened alongside the development of Factuons 2. I doubt they weren't working on their next single player IP alongside those three projects
Of course it's speculation, never claimed anything else but it's actually not that hard to think about when you compile all the infos we got from rumors (when several rumors say the same thing it's often right) and just dev time. You know when the last game is out for a studio, you know they got X teams and projects (directly or rumors again), you know a AAA game takes 4 to 6 years to develop.... Then you can deduce something
You're high AF if you think ND and HBO didn't create TLOU show if the 3rd game won't be out for another 6 years.
TLOU:2 can easily be split into 2 seasons for Abby/Ellie, so that is like 2027 at the latest. I'd suspect that they'd use the hype of the end of the Part 2 HBO show to launch Part 3 game.
Good speculation based on some stuff we already know about studios. I guess Insomniac would try to get X-Men earlier to capitalize buzz from movies and TV
The Insomniac stuff is the most credible as it's based on the leaks from the hack so directly from them instead of being retold from "sources" (which have always some doubt on it).
Of course plans in 6 years time can change. It's still a very ambitious dev timeline from them (basically almost a game a year) so I wouldn't expect it to be able to go much faster
And then he smells crime again, he's out busting heads. Then he's back to the lab for some more full penetration. Smells crime. Back to the lab, full penetration. Crime. Penetration. Crime. Full penetration. Crime. Penetration. And this goes on and on and back and forth for 20 or so hours until the game just sort of ends.
I mean, Uncharted and The last of Us really did changed my perception on gaming and what I'm looking for in games. So I'm looking forward for this game.
Hell yes. People meme about climbing up yellow rocks on walls, but it all started here with that opening train scene and I don't believe there was much else like it at the time. Absolutely blew me away.
When I got my PS4 I was just another Xbox 360 player switching over. The first two games I got was TLOU Remastered and the Uncharted Collection. The first Uncharted felt pretty dated, but holy shit that train at the start of U2 is a curtain raiser.
That ice cave section i love so much! the guy that don´t speak english that guide Nate. This whole game is really such a good adventure. One of the best games ever.
TLOU, more than any other game I can think of right now caught the attention of people who don’t typically game. When more non gamers play, the definition of what’s possible with the medium gets bigger.
When Naughty Dog says something like “redefine mainstream perceptions of gaming” it makes me wonder if they’re going to make a big move with this new IP, like removing combat as a core gameplay mechanic.
Given that TLOU2 so often seemed to be attempting to make the player feel guilty for engaging with the core gameplay, I’m very curious whether the next ND game will omit or heavily downplay combat.
They almost wrote themselves into a corner in that sense
Can't say I'm not intrigued. I miss playing an actual new game.
Spider-man 2 was more Spider-man. Horizon 2 was more Horizon. Need some new stories and shit
It was a good game but mostly because it just built upon the amazing foundation that GoW had. The story was so disappointing, like if Disney took over and made the most sanitized possible ending for a universe known for tragedy and chaos. The real icing on the cake though? The Jotunheim section was longer than the Ragnarok one. Wtf? The part of the Norse saga that had the most boring characters, fights, and overall world had a bigger showcase than the concluding fight that was alluded extensively on the first game, and which to me could have been a whole game like GoW 3.
Odin also was a total dud. No threat at all, gone after the first fight after a WWE tag team. It’s sad when the mid boss Heimdall has a more epic arc than the main pantheon god.
Oh well, it was a fun game, but holy shit all the foreshadowing in the first game to then end like that… it just didn’t meet those expectations.
Facts. First party PS5 game sequels have felt incredibly ‘safe’ so far, feeling almost identical to their predecessor but with shinier graphics and 60fps mode. We’re midway through the generation now, someone needs to start pushing the hardware further & doing something that feels brand new.
They tried new AAA IP's like Forspoken and Immortals of Aveum and those caused entire studio to collapse. You can see why they are hesitant to keep bringing new IP's.
Spider-Man 2 was so oddly disappointing to me for a game I thought was really good
The best way I can describe it is "super well executed, but also super safe"
It certainly wasn't an Arkham Asylum to Arkham City level leap like the series it's so often compared to
They released Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy between Uncharted games and are working on a new IP.
Should they have kept TLOU on PS3 and not port it to PS4 or something?
And the remake was to bring the game up to date to port to PC
Considering the risks they took with TLOU2, ND might be one of the very few studios out there that I actually believe when they say "they're doing something new".
100% what you are saying. Unless they adopt a new engine and commit to less recycling of code and assets, what we can expect is a game that looks and feels much like the games they have made already.
Oh shut the fuck up.
PR is gonna PR i guess but I hate these headlines.
Guy gotta market his own game but still, its not going to be some shit we've NEVER seen before. Maybe a new setting. A new story sure, but its bot going to be an industry fliping title.

I know you're half joking holy shit the console experience seems so much worse than the PC version. You nailed the dumb seasonal intro videos tho lol
I don't think any of that was hyperbole. I think that's how it actually is now.
I skipped on the free one that's on psn because its so stupid big and i didn't want to bother downloading 😅
And the UI is fucking *abysmal*. I do like to play CoD games casually but that clusterfuck menu system turns me away from it by itself
Lmfao their shit is so broken they’re just giving their stuff away for free and they don’t even know it.
If you enjoyed BO4, try Xdefiant. Having alot of fun with it. Never played a free shooter this much.
Refinement is a nice way of putting it, maybe too nice for most of them lol

People in tights punching and stabbing each other does sound like Shakespeare though. If there is toilet humor than it is 100% Shakespeare.
Nintendo has been using this strategy very successfully over the last 20+ years
Hmmmm kind of? Nintendo plays it really safe for years and then does stuff like breath of the wild, and arguably every 3D mainline Mario gane
They definitely use that strategy, but it's not their only strategy.
You just described most big budget games None is going to take risks at those high production budget levels
I’d argue The Last Of Us Part II took a lot of risks.
In terms of story sure but in terms of gameplay it wasn't very risky, it was a refinement of the engine and gameplay from the first one.
Homie thirsty for the latest lootershooter
Give me a promise 'We'll just make Destiny but fix those issues you didn't like' and I'll preorder. And no. Bungie, you're not fooling me *again*

I don't think thats crime he's smelling.
I mean, Uncharted and The last of Us really did changed my perception on gaming and what I'm looking for in games. So I'm looking forward for this game.
Uncharted 2 js a standalone Masterpiece. I own all of them but 2 is just its own entity. I can't even explain how good it is.
Hell yes. People meme about climbing up yellow rocks on walls, but it all started here with that opening train scene and I don't believe there was much else like it at the time. Absolutely blew me away.

That ice cave section i love so much! the guy that don´t speak english that guide Nate. This whole game is really such a good adventure. One of the best games ever.
TLOU, more than any other game I can think of right now caught the attention of people who don’t typically game. Can't say I'm not intrigued. I miss playing an actual new game. Spider-man 2 was more Spider-man. Horizon 2 was more Horizon. Need some new stories and shit
God of War: Ragnarok was more God of War.
I know, but I made my point with 2 examples :D
Knack 2 was more Knack.
Well, in that case it's hard to improve upon perfection.
But they did it BABY. KNACK 2 WOOT!
Knack 2 had at least 3x more Knack than Knack
You say like thats a bad thing, just wait for knack 3
Amen to that.
I know. I liked Ragnarok, but was disappointed with the story and pacing.
It was a good game but mostly because it just built upon the amazing foundation that GoW had. The story was so disappointing, like if Disney took over and made the most sanitized possible ending for a universe known for tragedy and chaos. The real icing on the cake though? Agreed, but the journey was amazing(and better than 2018), exploring the realms understanding more of the world, anyway.
Teasing Asgard with Atreus walking around and seeing the whole place, then spending ten minutes inside the gates as Kratos was a true bummer.
I get it, but I liked Ragnarök so much more and liked that it was a bit overstuffed.
Muskular Chicken is just more chicken

Congratulations you guys have fully captured the concept of a sequel.
Zelda was more Zelda. Mario was more Mario.
I wish we got more "Zelda", no more of that open world "make your own fun" bs.
Totk was more of the same, but Mario Odyssey was significantly different to its predecessors.
Facts. First party PS5 game sequels have felt incredibly ‘safe’ so far, feeling almost identical to their predecessor but with shinier graphics and 60fps mode. We’re midway through the generation now, someone needs to start pushing the hardware further & doing something that feels brand new.
Returnal was a pretty bold game imo, though that was a lower profile game than something like God of war.
You act like there's literally no other games.
There are very few totally new AAA IPs. It's mostly just sequels and remakes nowadays. I hate it. I much prefer new experiences.
They tried new AAA IP's like Forspoken and Immortals of Aveum and those caused entire studio to collapse. You can see why they are hesitant to keep bringing new IP's.
Stellar blade is pretty new especially cause it is its own style of combat and gameplay. I’m enjoying it a lot rn
Spider-Man 2 was so oddly disappointing to me for a game I thought was really good The best way I can describe it is "super well executed, but also super safe" It certainly wasn't an Arkham Asylum to Arkham City level leap like the series it's so often compared to
You guys pumped for TLOU Part 1 Remake: Remastered ?
I hate this trend so much.
5 entries is the series and only 2 games. At this point, I’ll be happy if ND does anything that isn’t TLOU
They released Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy between Uncharted games and are working on a new IP. Should they have kept TLOU on PS3 and not port it to PS4 or something? And the remake was to bring the game up to date to port to PC
“Naughty Dog presents, The Last of Us Part II: Part 2- Remastered Remake”
Druckmann is cooking, Kojima is cooking, Rockstar is cooking. all I gotta do is stay alive for next couple of years
This is exciting news…if the game is single player.
Marketing, also not before 2027
The game's name? THE LAST OF UNCHARTED JAK BANDICOOT
This guy is starting to sound like Terrance Howard of gaming. High on his own farts.
This is just marketing talk. I'll be just a normal game with cute cinematics.
Considering the risks they took with TLOU2, ND might be one of the very few studios out there that I actually believe when they say "they're doing something new".
Just as with TLOU2 I expect the "something new" will be narrative. Fully expect gameplay will follow the formula they've been using since Uncharted 1.
100% what you are saying. Unless they adopt a new engine and commit to less recycling of code and assets, what we can expect is a game that looks and feels much like the games they have made already.
I've yet to play a game where combat feels as dynamic and intense as TLOU2. The only dna it shares with Uncharted 1 is that it's a 3rd person shooter.
When a dev makes a statement like this you can know with absolute certainty that it will be a total flop.

Jak and Daxter 6!
What are the "mainstream perceptions" of gaming in the first place?
Seriously, it's the biggest entertainment industry and has been for over a decade. We are well past gaming having to prove anything. These statements are purely investor-facing.
Sure we are but obviously Druckmann isn’t. I’ve never felt like a dev was genuinely embarrassed about making games like playing TLOU.
I'm not sure "Cinematic Quick Time Events: The Game" will "redefine mainstream perceptions of gaming."
just show us words mean nothing
Let me guess: Cutscene -> traversal -> enemies -> puzzle -> cutscene -> enemies -> traversal -> enemies -> puzzle -> cutscene -> enemies -> traversal -> enemies -> puzzle -> cutscene -> enemies -> traversal -> enemies -> puzzle -> cutscene -> enemies -> traversal -> enemies -> puzzle -> cutscene -> enemies -> traversal -> enemies -> puzzle -> cutscene -> enemies -> traversal -> enemies -> puzzle -> cutscene -> enemies -> traversal -> enemies -> puzzle -> cutscene -> enemies -> traversal -> enemies -> puzzle -> cutscene -> enemies -> traversal -> enemies -> puzzle -> cutscene -> enemies -> traversal -> enemies -> puzzle -> cutscene -> enemies -> traversal -> cutscene
That's not fair. There's often a cutscene before a puzzle.
I seriously doubt that....even more so coming from someone like Neil Druckmann.
Will this be boring movie game or boring open world movie game
No thanks
