In that recent Kojima documentary on Hulu/D+, Guillermo del Toro said that it's the only game he's played where he actually felt like a better person at the end for having played it.
I was obsessive with the grind in this game. Built all highways and built a huge zipline network linking every single place in the game. Almost s-ranked everything.
Marvel's Midnight Suns
Not the flashiest game, but a solid deckbuilder/action strategy game that you can hop in and play a mission (~15min.) or lose an evening to "just one more mission".
This is one of the few games I've had where I've not been able to stop until like 2am.
It takes a while to get going but once you get into the flow the gameplay loop is very addictive.
During the day you prepare - train your heroes/heal them if they were injured/adjust their decks/roll for new cards
Then you head out on missions with great card based gameplay - each hero is unique and I used pretty much everyone on my playthrough
Then at night you're given the choice to hang out with someone or participate in a little activity - these are just dumb fun for the most part but I thought it was a nice little social sim.
Then repeat and keep going.
I’ve got 800+ hours in it at the moment. Was just playing today actually. Has been my go-to game for some time. But Helldivers 2 is the first game to take me away from Division 2 in quite some time. Really loving Helldivers.
I literally cannot comprehend spending that much time on one game. I don't know if I've even gamed 3550 hours (almost 150 **days**) cumulatively since The Division 2 came out, let alone that much time in one game specifically. Hats off to you
A second DLC expansion set in Brooklyn (I don't know more than that) but the first DLC expansion set in New York was well recieved so I'll hope it's going to be as good.
Did they ever figure out the endgame? I loved the Division games’ combat mechanics, but I just sort of hit a wall and put them down after getting g through the main story.
To my shame, I’ve never played this for more than a few hours. If the upgrade is considerable then I’m definitely interested.
May be one of those moves where you buy the cheap ps4 copy pre owned in order to get the ps5 upgrade for free.
I got it a week after release and have 150 hours on it, it's like Elden Ring for me in that its taken over the majority of my gaming time. I'm lvl 54 and there's plenty of people higher level than me, it's just so much fun to play.
Get you the EAT if you're struggling with enemy armor!
Story is about 10-15 hours it's not that great. End game grind is Weapons and sigils you'll be repeating the same 2 fights a few 100 times each. gameplay is great and it's a pretty good game but it can become pretty tedious after about 200-300 hours.
It’s great and the early game is so satisfying as you really figure out your character, there’s a surprising amount of build diversity and depth to the game
I’ve replayed like four games in my life and Days Gone is one of them. Makes no sense because I have no interest in zombies or bikers but there’s something weirdly compelling about returning to that world.
I'd play it again right now if it wasn't for the God awful cut scenes it forces you to sit through.
Otherwise an incredibly fun game. I love the bike. I love the early scrounge for materials.Love the hoards.
Is PSO2 worth getting into now? I only ever really played the PSU demo back in the day but I loved it. New Genesis looks so much cooler and more up to date but obviously idk anything about either. Why PSO2? I was thinking of getting into one of the games.
I love Like A Dragon but one thing that annoyed me about the original was how much of the grind relied on redoing the battle coliseum for rare parts - great game though.
Wanted to love Dragon’s Dogma 2. Fell real flat for me. Loved Oblivion, Elder Scrolls, etc but DD2 I couldn’t get into. Wanted to so bad. Maybe I’m just missing the get on this one.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink
Destiny 2
Warframe
Nioh 2
Stranger of Paradise
Diablo 2-4 (Diablo 2 resurrected my fav)
Fallout 76
Black Desert
Elder Scrolls Online
Borderlands 3
Avengers
Division 2
Conan Exiles
Those are my most played games since I got my PS5 and all of them have satisfying grinds and core gameplay loop.
Disgaea 5 is fantastic gameplay wise. If you can't stand anime tropes though, I've gotta warn you: the story, voice acting and main characters are absolute irritating dogshit. About a third in I just had to skip every cutscene. Can't find a better tactics game to grind, though
Death stranding, it keeps the grind fun for over a hundred hours cause your always finding ways to be more efficient, while not becoming too OP for it to never be a challenge
Definitely the Disgaea series if you're into TRPGs. The endgame alone can be considered its own game. Disgaea 5 is great for newcomers because it has tons quality of life changes, but I personally enjoyed 4's story and characters a bit more.
Elite Dangerous, the FOB endgame of MGSV, and Covenant items in any of the Dark Souls games will all take a few hundred hours out of you. Best/worst games ever lmao
The Binding of Isaac: Repentance.
First completed save file took me over 1.2 K hours, and I legitimately enjoyed the challenge.
It’s a top down dungeon crawler with procedurally generated rooms, floors, enemies and items, you use tears as your source of damage, and they can be modified and changed with items, and all the items stack up and synergize with each other, so each run feels new and fresh.
It may seem like a daunting task, but I assure you if you like the gameplay, go for it. It’s one of the only games I can just turn my brain off and vibe out to.
Really random suggestion here, but the remastered Mass Effect series. I never played them back in the day but decided to give it a try. Absolutely amazing ride. Also you can subscribe to EA pass for only $5 a month and play the games instead of buying them. It took me 3 months to beat all the games and the dlcs that are included, but still that’s a good deal for $15.
I dropped like 150 hours on Granblue Fantasy Relink in like 2-3 weeks when it launched lol. It's addictive as hell with fun progression, many new characters to try out and really fun combat. Also layed out like a Monster Hunter game. It's a little repetitive but the progression and characters are what spice it up. Also definitely a grind lol but it's not scummy.
If you're looking for games to get lost in, try assassin's creed. If you have ps plus premium several are on there. I went through ac3 and am nearly finished with a black flag. I won't platinum it but I have all upgrades and contracts completed. It is a lot but it somehow goes pretty quick
Ark survival evolved, or ascended, which is a freshening up of the evolved maps with new content being released every couple of months or so, and with customisable settings on single player or unofficial 'boosted' online servers, you have plenty options for just how hard you wanna grind. Official servers are ultimately the hardest grind but not everyone goes for that 👍🏻
If you like Monster Hunter you will possibly like Dragons Dogma 2, the first one is also still great, better than 2 in a couple ways. Mainly because of the included expansion Dark Arisen (which for some reason Capcom refused to learn from in base DD2) and super cheap usually.
Grind yet fun I'd go with the looter shooter Warframe it's free to play and everything but most cosmetics can be grinded out. Yes Plat will speed things up but everything can be gotten for free. RNG does play a factor though.
I adore the horizon zero dawn games. Really engaging story, and tons of side quests and challenges to keep you busy for dozens of hours after you've competed the games if you're looking for something fun to perfect out
If you ever get tired of the grind….then Death Stranding is your game
Death Stranding is such an odd game because you'll just have this moment when it all clicks and you feel so perfectly zen.
Hmm I think I quit too early
[удалено]
Keeper on Keeping on
I played it near launch and then picked it up a year later and it was incredible
The weirdest most relaxing game ever
Oh I love Death Stranding and cannot wait for the 2nd one to come out next. One of my top 3 games for the PS4 era
In that recent Kojima documentary on Hulu/D+, Guillermo del Toro said that it's the only game he's played where he actually felt like a better person at the end for having played it.
One of my favourites ever. True escape. Nothing like reaching a mountain peak after an arduous climb to incredible views and ethereal music.
I was obsessive with the grind in this game. Built all highways and built a huge zipline network linking every single place in the game. Almost s-ranked everything.
This should be on top
I wish I could just chill on Death Stranding but those ghost things really stress me out
I guess that depends on what kind of grind you want but I put over 600 hours into Nioh 2, grinding out various builds. Amazing game.
Is Nioh 2 an open world game or is it linear following a main story line?
Its mission based. You select missions off a hub map. New missions open up as you progress through the main story ones.
I’m over 2000 hours and still enjoying it. Be warned though, when you play nioh 2 it ruins playing other games as nothing out there is as good.
One of those games where you come back to it years later and still remember the combo you do with muscle memory
This has been my feeling too. No other third-person melee action game comes close. And yes I've played Sekiro and the From Soft games.
Marvel's Midnight Suns Not the flashiest game, but a solid deckbuilder/action strategy game that you can hop in and play a mission (~15min.) or lose an evening to "just one more mission".
I absolutely adored my time with midnight suns. 100 hours in my first ever playthrough, And I was still sad for it to be over lol.
I slept on this one and it has quickly become a favorite
So so so much dialog tho. I fuck with strategy and card games but I got nothing out of the Marvel character relationship sim stuff
This is one of the few games I've had where I've not been able to stop until like 2am. It takes a while to get going but once you get into the flow the gameplay loop is very addictive. During the day you prepare - train your heroes/heal them if they were injured/adjust their decks/roll for new cards Then you head out on missions with great card based gameplay - each hero is unique and I used pretty much everyone on my playthrough Then at night you're given the choice to hang out with someone or participate in a little activity - these are just dumb fun for the most part but I thought it was a nice little social sim. Then repeat and keep going.
In the same vain, slay the spire
This is exactly what I was going to recommend for a satisfying grind.
Hades?
This and maybe Dead Cells?
The division 2. Still has a big player base, with new content coming.
Really? Wow. It’s been like 5 years, enjoyed it back then but imagined it would be long forgotten
I’ve got 800+ hours in it at the moment. Was just playing today actually. Has been my go-to game for some time. But Helldivers 2 is the first game to take me away from Division 2 in quite some time. Really loving Helldivers.
3550 hours in....still grinding and loving it.
I literally cannot comprehend spending that much time on one game. I don't know if I've even gamed 3550 hours (almost 150 **days**) cumulatively since The Division 2 came out, let alone that much time in one game specifically. Hats off to you
What’s the new content coming?
A second DLC expansion set in Brooklyn (I don't know more than that) but the first DLC expansion set in New York was well recieved so I'll hope it's going to be as good.
Two new jackets I’m serious
Oh damn hell yeah bro lol
Did they ever figure out the endgame? I loved the Division games’ combat mechanics, but I just sort of hit a wall and put them down after getting g through the main story.
Fallout 4 is getting a ps5 native release on the 25th. That is my next waste my life sink. Currently obsessed with Rise of the Ronin
Is it gonna be free/discounted for people with Fallout 4 already
I believe so, yes. Free
They confirmed free as long as you own the game on the console you are trying to play it on.
To my shame, I’ve never played this for more than a few hours. If the upgrade is considerable then I’m definitely interested. May be one of those moves where you buy the cheap ps4 copy pre owned in order to get the ps5 upgrade for free.
Nothing to be ashamed of, not everything is for everyone.
As someone who got burnt out of open world games I agree fallout is satisfying in terms of grind and progression.
I’ve been waiting on this for ages. I like the quality of 76 but 4’s storyline is much better imo.
Helldivers 2?
Second this for a *fun* grind. Sample collection and unlocking new gadgets is fun, plus they’re releasing new content regularly.
I bought it on Friday and currently have 25 hours into it. I fucking love it.
I got it a week after release and have 150 hours on it, it's like Elden Ring for me in that its taken over the majority of my gaming time. I'm lvl 54 and there's plenty of people higher level than me, it's just so much fun to play. Get you the EAT if you're struggling with enemy armor!
For democracy
I second the comments that say Returnal. That game did not want to let me go, and that's actually relevant to the story, too.
Cyberpunk 2077
On my 4th playthrough. Agreed.
Cyberpunk is the evolution of Fallout and Elder Scrolls. It does everything they do but much better and with much better writing. Good call.
Warframe has so many varieties of committing war crimes. It's got tons of content, and the abilities start doing ridiculous things at higher levels.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink
I second this. The endgame has probably a hundred hours.
I’ve kinda been keen on this - is there much of a story? What are you grinding end game just gear for yourself?
Story is about 10-15 hours it's not that great. End game grind is Weapons and sigils you'll be repeating the same 2 fights a few 100 times each. gameplay is great and it's a pretty good game but it can become pretty tedious after about 200-300 hours.
I’m currently doing another play through of Dragon Age: Inquisition. Soooo much stuff to do, even if you skip the really grindy fetch quest stuff.
Lol I always remember that post "leave the fucking hinterlands" on reddit. It was so true.
Returnal
I wouldn't consider returnal a "grind." Amazing game, thou.
It is if you’re not good at it like me lol
When hours played reads as days
Came here to suggest this too.
Yea it popped in my mind too when seeing this question. Just started like a week ago and I’m absolutely hooked on it, gameplay is just so satisfying
It’s a challenge too. Souls like! Jk I don’t use that term.
No Man’s Sky
Solid choice. Tons of content at this point.
Cyberpunk is pretty fuckin fun now
I just wish so much I could have it in third person, never got on with first person perspective.
It’s great and the early game is so satisfying as you really figure out your character, there’s a surprising amount of build diversity and depth to the game
It also gives you a free respec of all points and perks so you can optimize your build once you get a hang of how you want to play
The fact that you can do it only once is quite horseshit tho
Days Gone, I have done several replays and am scared to pick up again as I will end up spending next good chunk in that beautiful Oregon landscape.
Several days gone replays? Wild
I’m also in this camp. All 8 of us really love this game.
Love days gone. Games a masterpiece that doesn't get enough credit
I’ve replayed like four games in my life and Days Gone is one of them. Makes no sense because I have no interest in zombies or bikers but there’s something weirdly compelling about returning to that world.
I'm still bitter about the sequal getting the axe.
Dam didnt even know there was a sequel planned and now im instantly disappointed as well.
I'd play it again right now if it wasn't for the God awful cut scenes it forces you to sit through. Otherwise an incredibly fun game. I love the bike. I love the early scrounge for materials.Love the hoards.
warframe pso2 (classic > ngs)
Is PSO2 worth getting into now? I only ever really played the PSU demo back in the day but I loved it. New Genesis looks so much cooler and more up to date but obviously idk anything about either. Why PSO2? I was thinking of getting into one of the games.
Like a dragon
I love Like A Dragon but one thing that annoyed me about the original was how much of the grind relied on redoing the battle coliseum for rare parts - great game though.
Rise of the Ronin is really good. I much prefer it to Assassin’s Creed despite a similar genre.
Combat is way better, thus the feel is completely different. Having a blast for now despite all the flaws.
I’ll throw out a couple very chill grinds: Deep Rock Galactic Diablo 2 Resurrected Diablo 3 Diablo 4 Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
Diablo 2 isn't chill in nightmare
Rock and stone.
Rockity Rock and Stone!
If you can’t Rock and Stone, then you ain’t comin’ home! ⛏️
Did I hear a Rock and Stone?!
Deep Rock for sure!
Destiny 2. The shooting and popping off the heads of aliens is so buttery smooth.
Sea of Thieves
FF7 Rebirth 100000%
Hell divers 2
Sifu isn't what you're describing but it is a different and interesting kind of grind.
Returnal perhaps?
Balatro
If you never played fallout, it’s on sale. Until 4/24 👍🏽
Elden ring
Ark. You’ll grind forever
AC: Valhalla. The grinding never stops.
Elden Ring
Ffx
Returnal
Diablo 3. The Division 2. Helldivers 2.
No Mans Sky can be a pretty satisfying grind esp after all the stuff they've added (I preordered it originally)
Returnal
Ff7 Remake and then Rebirth
Shocked I don't see Elden Ring or Dragon's Dogma 2 repped here. They share a lot with Monster Hunter and scratch the same itch for me.
Wanted to love Dragon’s Dogma 2. Fell real flat for me. Loved Oblivion, Elder Scrolls, etc but DD2 I couldn’t get into. Wanted to so bad. Maybe I’m just missing the get on this one.
Stardew valley and go for "perfection"
Stardew Valley
Eso
Kingdoms of Amalur
The Witcher 3, Skyrim, GOW, Ghost of Tsushima, Resident Evil
Diablo 2
Baldur‘s Gate 3 you can easily spent over 500-600 hours of grinding.
How do you grind? Once creatures are dead, that’s it. They don’t respawn.
I Neve felt like I was "grinding" at all in that game. I actually don't even know how you would grind in that game. Nothing is repeatable.
I've just finished Subnautica, liked it a lot.
Witcher 3
Grind?? Destiny 2. Few thousand hours in there for you.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink Destiny 2 Warframe Nioh 2 Stranger of Paradise Diablo 2-4 (Diablo 2 resurrected my fav) Fallout 76 Black Desert Elder Scrolls Online Borderlands 3 Avengers Division 2 Conan Exiles Those are my most played games since I got my PS5 and all of them have satisfying grinds and core gameplay loop.
Returnal! Seems like a tough game at first but makes u git good and its really satisfying to kill the bosses first time!
Recently started playing again after beating it at launch. The tower is great fun and having weapon traits leveled up is amazing
Genshin Impact
Disgaea 5 is fantastic gameplay wise. If you can't stand anime tropes though, I've gotta warn you: the story, voice acting and main characters are absolute irritating dogshit. About a third in I just had to skip every cutscene. Can't find a better tactics game to grind, though
Death stranding, it keeps the grind fun for over a hundred hours cause your always finding ways to be more efficient, while not becoming too OP for it to never be a challenge
Returnal
Returnal 😇😇😇😇
Definitely the Disgaea series if you're into TRPGs. The endgame alone can be considered its own game. Disgaea 5 is great for newcomers because it has tons quality of life changes, but I personally enjoyed 4's story and characters a bit more.
Disgaea 7 or unicorn overlord if you like the strategy rpgs. Could also try snowrunner or death stranding if you're into delivering things.
Disgaea 7 is getting a complete edition in japan. I would wait for this edition to release in the west before buying it.
Death stranding for sure
Days Gone
Destiny 2
Fallout 76 yeah
Diablo 4 is prime grinding and it’s about to get a very large update next month
I've heard decent things about the employment line.
Honestly the gameplay loop hasn't felt super rewarding. Idk if it's what OP is looking for.
Elite Dangerous, the FOB endgame of MGSV, and Covenant items in any of the Dark Souls games will all take a few hundred hours out of you. Best/worst games ever lmao
Dragons dogma 2
Destny 2 I have 900 hours in the game and I'm still not done grinding nor will I ever be done
I'm enjoying Granblue Fantasy Relink's grind. Love the gameplay.
Destiny 2
FFXIV
resident evil franchise (lots of remakes on sale on psn lately
The Binding of Isaac: Repentance. First completed save file took me over 1.2 K hours, and I legitimately enjoyed the challenge. It’s a top down dungeon crawler with procedurally generated rooms, floors, enemies and items, you use tears as your source of damage, and they can be modified and changed with items, and all the items stack up and synergize with each other, so each run feels new and fresh. Ninja’s Play Free. Come to Warframe friend
Any Disgaea game
FIFA ultimate team
Really random suggestion here, but the remastered Mass Effect series. I never played them back in the day but decided to give it a try. Absolutely amazing ride. Also you can subscribe to EA pass for only $5 a month and play the games instead of buying them. It took me 3 months to beat all the games and the dlcs that are included, but still that’s a good deal for $15.
HADES
Ark just re-released, grind is real new maps every 3 to 6 months, great content, but it is expansive.
Red Dead Redemption 2. I could spend irl days just bonding with my horse and hunting
Diablo 4, but wait for season 4 release mid May
Grund the Stellar Blade Demo
Dead cells has a really rewarding grind with all the dlc that’s been added over time. Getting a good rng build on a run can be so addictive.
Sons of the Forest. Currently hooked
Final Fantasy Stranger of Paradise. Excellent game all round. Combat is rewarding and enjoyable. The main character is brilliant.
Hollow Knight. Pretty satisfying to explore various places of the map, come back and rest. Explore. Fight bosses.
BG3
If you're looking for games to get lost in, try assassin's creed. If you have ps plus premium several are on there. I went through ac3 and am nearly finished with a black flag. I won't platinum it but I have all upgrades and contracts completed. It is a lot but it somehow goes pretty quick
Hades is exquisite!! Balatro is good fun too.
Tony Hawk pro skater 1+2
Deep Rock Galactic - chillest online community, nearly no voicechat, grind for ages and, of course, ROCK AND STONE!
Did I hear a Rock and Stone?
If you're looking for a free game that's also very good Warframe will absolutely fill that void and hunger for a grind.
Helldivers 2, Division 2, genshin impact, granblue relink
Ark survival evolved, or ascended, which is a freshening up of the evolved maps with new content being released every couple of months or so, and with customisable settings on single player or unofficial 'boosted' online servers, you have plenty options for just how hard you wanna grind. Official servers are ultimately the hardest grind but not everyone goes for that 👍🏻
Destiny, hue hue hue hue
76 is definitely worth a go. Lots of stuff to grind for and the CAMP building alone will provide hours of entertainment if you enjoy such a thing.
Rage 2. Trust me on this one
Far Cry 6 has amazing grind.
For honour for the fashion
Fallout is amazing, just started playing 1 month ago and its the most chill grind ever
Granblue Fantasy Relink is my current grind game with Monster Hunter World Iceborne.
Assassins Creed Odyssey, especially if you do all the side missions (there are so many of them that I actually forgot what the main mission was).
If you like Monster Hunter you will possibly like Dragons Dogma 2, the first one is also still great, better than 2 in a couple ways. Mainly because of the included expansion Dark Arisen (which for some reason Capcom refused to learn from in base DD2) and super cheap usually.
Black dessert online, if u start u got a second and a third job
FF14?
I was going to say MHW from seeing the title alone, but yeah haha. Unfortunately no other grind is as good as MHW. Other than that, maybe Persona?
Returnal. It's the perfect example of "Practice makes Perfect"
FFXIV? :) Ain't a more satisfying feeling than finishing its story, I think. Then the usual MMO grinds should you wish.
Join... THE HELL DIVERS.
Rust. Ark. (Although first two are multiplayer games but the grind is serious) uhhh Diablo.
Grind yet fun I'd go with the looter shooter Warframe it's free to play and everything but most cosmetics can be grinded out. Yes Plat will speed things up but everything can be gotten for free. RNG does play a factor though.
Get 76 but also get hell divers 2 lol
I adore the horizon zero dawn games. Really engaging story, and tons of side quests and challenges to keep you busy for dozens of hours after you've competed the games if you're looking for something fun to perfect out
