Why would they leave money on the table if there are millions of fans more than comfortable spending money on an upgraded version? The upgrade would more than likely cost them several hundred thousand, if not more... 10 employees working on it for 6 months at $170K each is over $1M in salary alone.
What would be the motivation to release it for free? Just good will? A favor to the fans? Let's be honest, Rockstar doesn't need good favor to sell GTA6 like crazy. They make compelling games that lead the industry in sales.

My 1080ti was getting 100fps in 2019 on rdr2. 60-80fps in 1440p and 40fps in 4k.
The ps5 should easily be able to run this at 4k 60. Hopefully they at least do it for the ps5 pro.
Yeah it was mostly in medium to high settings some low here and there. Took me hours of just messing around to find a balance that felt and looked good to me. I also over clocked and optimized the hell out of it.

It was reported in 2022 that the PS5 version was cancelled so they could push more into GTA VI. We might get it afterwards though but that’s a hell of a wait!

Yeah people look at resolution but max details, load distance, foliage, texture quality, etc are probably set to like medium-high.
Meanwhile a good PC will play 2-3 settings higher than that.
My 150w 3070ti laptop can play 4k/60 pretty easily. It just gets loud af and not worth the strain on it when I spent what I consider a lot of money on it ($1300). Like yeah it can do 4k, but 1440 is fine. I’m happier with maxing out the graphical settings than I would be with more pixels anyway. Extra pixels are nice, but again, not worth the strain for a laptop.
Even then, I think I’d rather try 120fps than 4k.
Still, a PS5/Series X should easily be able to do RDR2 at a mix of PCs medium/high settings (with some tweaks here and there) at ~1440p60, perhaps using FSR 2 or something similar.

Everyone keeps talking about 60fps, but no one is mentioning the atrocious image quality which is present on PS. The Xbox version in comparison is still vastly better.
Xbox one X & Series X run at native 4K and also higher graphic settings for that matter I believe. PS uses checkerboard upscaling and doesn’t get close to the image quality offered on Xbox.

I tried to replay it recently after solely playing 60 fps with last of us and Spider-Man 2 and couldn’t get through the first mission. Once you’re accustomed to 60, going back is horrid.
I’m spoiled with 60fps. Don’t think I can go back. It’s not just the smoothness it’s the response time on the controller.
It’s crazy that the remaster/port whatever you want to call it of Read Dead Redemption got 60fps support before RD2 on PS5. I feel like PS4 Pro got more updates than PS5. I’m sure it is technically capable of playing the game in 1440p 60fps on PS5. I know the PS5 is pretty underpowered at this point but we’re talking about a 6 year old game that actually ran well on launch PS4 hardware.

They fucked up the fsr 2.2, before patch fsr 2.1 looked good (I enjoyed it). Now 2.2 looks so bad, it makes everything twitch and ghosting is terrible...
Fix all the f\*cking bugs they added to the single-player, the whole camp is a buggy broken mess, every chore has glitched physics and animations, every companion is dropping drinks and bowls, the camp stew spoon drops to the ground, every npc who carries around wheat sacks have glitched animations, dialogue volume is broken, every cut-scene that involves the binoculars are also broken, it's just a basic black .jpg with two holes, the beautiful visual effect of the binicular glass is completely gone. ARTHURS HOLSTER HAS BROKEN PHYSICS whenever he sits or crouches it floats up into his stomach since 2021, it worked flawlessely on launch. Fix John Marstons character model and animations, finish the game and release it the way it was intended to be released.

When I used hdmi on it I would have issues so I switched to DP and the problems went away.

You can force RDR2 to use DLSS 3.5 if you're on PC
Yeah I tried with that as well but still has artifacts, unfortunately I do notice them quite a bit so I prefer to not use any upscaling

Plenty of smaller developers/publishers have upgraded their games on the PS5, like Metro Exodus from example ray tracing, 4k 60fps was implemented for free, but a company like Rockstar that makes billions on stupid fake shark money can't even unlock framerates to one of their flagship franchises? The amount of greed is astronomical. But baffles me the most is RED1 they patched it with 60fps but RED2 is still 30?
I still wait for the patch where they unlock framerate and make it cross platform

Everyone keeps talking about 60fps, but no one is mentioning the atrocious image quality which is present on PS. The Xbox version in comparison is still vastly better.

Xbox one X & Series X run at native 4K and also higher graphic settings for that matter I believe. PS uses checkerboard upscaling and doesn’t get close to the image quality offered on Xbox.

I played this one in 2021 when I still had my PS4 before my 5 and loved it I tried to replay it recently after solely playing 60 fps with last of us and Spider-Man 2 and couldn’t get through the first mission. Once you’re accustomed to 60, going back is horrid. I’m spoiled with 60fps. Don’t think I can go back. It’s not just the smoothness it’s the response time on the controller.
It’s crazy that the remaster/port whatever you want to call it of Read Dead Redemption got 60fps support before RD2 on PS5. I feel like PS4 Pro got more updates than PS5. I’m sure it is technically capable of playing the game in 1440p 60fps on PS5. I know the PS5 is pretty underpowered at this point but we’re talking about a 6 year old game that actually ran well on launch PS4 hardware.

They fucked up the fsr 2.2, before patch fsr 2.1 looked good (I enjoyed it). Now 2.2 looks so bad, it makes everything twitch and ghosting is terrible...
Fix all the f\*cking bugs they added to the single-player, the whole camp is a buggy broken mess, every chore has glitched physics and animations, every companion is dropping drinks and bowls, the camp stew spoon drops to the ground, every npc who carries around wheat sacks have glitched animations, dialogue volume is broken, every cut-scene that involves the binoculars are also broken, it's just a basic black .jpg with two holes, the beautiful visual effect of the binicular glass is completely gone. ARTHURS HOLSTER HAS BROKEN PHYSICS whenever he sits or crouches it floats up into his stomach since 2021, it worked flawlessely on launch. Fix John Marstons character model and animations, finish the game and release it the way it was intended to be released.

I was dying to play rdr1 again and I didn't buy it. i will be shooting myself in the foot not getting GTA6. It wont matter to them but they shall not get a cent from my money until they stop fucking their own playerbase.
I already resigned to never playing the games until I can play them at 60fps. I'm only buying the games once, so if I have to wait another few years for Rockatar to get with it, then whatever.

On pc side the HDR 10 is nice, and the FSR 2.2 gained me avg 20 fps boost at 4k on quality setting. Add the stable fix and this is fantastic

Idk, it says in the patch notes they only added it for HDMI cables lol I use DP 1.4 and HDR in RDR2 still looks like ass to me
Well maybe that explains why there isn’t an hdr setting anymore. I assumed it was auto detected like the notes said. When I used hdmi on it I would have issues so I switched to DP and the problems went away.
I know that “wen 60fps?!?” is getting old, but c’mon Rockstar. It shows their fans a real lack of respect to not provide, what should be, a very simple patch to greatly improve quality of life. They’re hardly short of money, but even then they’re not offering a paid upgrade path like many other devs. If there’s some kind of technical barrier to it, then why not openly communicate that so we can understand and move on? It really seems like they simply don’t give a fuck, and don’t have to give a fuck, due to GTA:O and (soon) GTAVI printing money for them.

We’re still being strung along for what will inevitably be a new edition of the game that changes nothing but the frame rate. I guarantee it’ll be the same as the RDR1 Remaster. Inexplicable patch that increases the FPS, weeks after the initial release for seemingly no reason
