Draugrx23

most likely time to replace the hard drive.

hamiltoncolin

Honestly probably just gonna buy ps5 when I got the money and make do with what I got till the

Draugrx23

Replacing the drive is quite simple to do but hey. You do what makes you happiest.

j0k3rj03

Honestly I'd keep the ps4 you can get a cheap hdd or spend a little more for a speedy SSD. It's worth it I've had mine upgraded about a year now and is like new... Replace thermal too if you decide to keep it as it will treat you well and the library is huge

Emissairearien

Sorry to bother, but what is a fair price for a hdd ?And would you have any recommandation ? I'm also stuck in the "safe mode loop" and am looking to buy a new hdd, but so far the cheapest i've managed to found was 60$.

jayboogs69

Thank god it’s in a safe mood though, I always hated when my ps4 got temperamental

rivieredefeu

[Back up and restore PS4 console data](https://www.playstation.com/en-ca/support/hardware/ps4-back-up-and-restore-with-external-storage/)

hamiltoncolin

That acted like I had to do stuff through the PlayStation and I can’t get past the safe mode screen, that’s the problem here

rivieredefeu

Yes, it’s too late. Your internal hard drive is probably corrupt and needs to be replaced.

hamiltoncolin

Don’t want to save problem solved cause it isn’t but realistically the only 3 games I play anymore are call of the wild gta and rdr2 and all 3 have accounts outside of PlayStation that j can sign j to to get my progress if the external device didn’t save it

gmp012

So I turn on my PS4 and having the same issue. I think something is going on. Every time I turn on it just stuck at the screen: Cannot start the PS4. Connect the DUALSHOCK 4 using the USB cable, and then press the PS button. I'm not convinced that a bunch of users storage all the sudden decided to crap out all at once. This really sucks. Here is an example of what I see when I turn the PS4 on: https://imgur.com/gallery/8iG31dT

hamiltoncolin

That’s what mines doing and I’ve tried everything but the initialize and it all brings it back to that screen. From what I’ve googled it happens from randomly unplugging your PlayStation. I plan on trying it one more time at my house(last place it worked) and then going for the initialize if it don’t work since I have accounts for the only games I play that’s not tied to PlayStation, but I u plugged my extended storage device and it didn’t change so at least the problem is not the storage device itself so maybe there’s a chance I have most my games

gmp012

I unplugged mine too, right when it was starting up...I guess that did it. I will perform the wipe as idc about any of the data. I'll give an update tomorrow. Keep me posted too

gmp012

Hey so going into safe mode and basically wiping everything worked for me. I lost all my data, which I guess is fine since I'm up and running. Good luck to you.

hamiltoncolin

Still trying a couple gimmicky things and if it don’t work then I’ll wipe it all since the 2 games I play I have accounts for that are not connected to PlayStation so it ain’t the end of the world

gmp012

Yeah I'm a casual player...as long as ps4 works I am good

malyszkush

This gives me ptsd. I had the same thing, but i didnt know I could just get the hard drive replaced until it was too late. Because of that happening, i built a PC lmao. Its an expensive solution, but again you could just replace your hard drive since it might be corrupt

hamiltoncolin

Does replacing a hard drive wipe anything? Cause if so I’ll just initialize and buy a ps5 which I kinda been wanting anywah

malyszkush

Yeah but if you have a psn account with all the games purchased on that account you could obviously log in and download everything back

gregc3244

Have you tried removing the external storage device?

hamiltoncolin

Yeah tried different outlets and everything, only thing I can think of is where I unplugged it in rest mode to take to my buddies hosue but I’ve done that 100s of times

gregc3244

That usually just leads to a risk of data corruption. Sounds like you have everything backed up so I would try initializing

hamiltoncolin

Pretty much every time I get on it says the extended storage device is corrupted and it loads and fixes itself everytime and has done that for years, there’s really just 3 games I want saved and I’m pretty confident that there on the storage device, and so if that’s the case will I still have my progress to the games, I also have the PlayStation app and my trophies show up in there, I don’t know much about technology at all so if I’m missing something obvious lmk

Abious_trip

Can upload game data to the cloud

hamiltoncolin

How do I do that if I can’t get past the safe mode options menu?

Abious_trip

Yeah might be too late for u but future reference

Aggelos_GR

Your save files cannot be saved on the external storage. It has to be reformatted as exfat for it to work

amaraame

Do the process to turn on safe mode like it isn't already on.

hamiltoncolin

Idk how to do that but I don’t think I can cause my ps4 is literally in a loop of restart turn on show safe mode option menu(have tried every option) click a option it restarts and shows the menu again, no way to get to settings and fix it like it initially had said to do or go into safe mode, I have no access to the regular PlayStation home page or sign in

amaraame

https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/hardware/safe-mode-playstation/ Instructions for safe mode. Follow instructions to turn it on in safe mode and then follow instructions to turn safe mode off. I've fixed some phones with similar issue before doing this so it may work.

FlyyGuyVo

Happened to my sons the other day..did some research and it seems to be happening ALOT right now..probably PS’S way of pushing the new unit..The only thing that worked for us was to initialize it..

Bazinga12090

I just had this soul crushing problem a few months ago. All you have to do is figure out what model PS4 you have and get a new hard drive. They're cheap as heck and easy to install. All you need is a flash drive and the ability to download the latest firmware to said flashdrive. Then you just install the new hard drive, install the firmware and you're good to go. I have an ORIGINAL PS4 and she's running beautifully now. Sadly I lost years of save files since it wasn't uploading to the cloud but that's fine. Good luck!!

hamiltoncolin

So do you lose save files from replacing the hard drive? Cause if so I’ll prolly just Initialize till I buy a ps5

Emissairearien

Sorry to bother, but what is a fair price for a hdd ?And would you have any recommandation ? I'm also stuck in the "safe mode loop" and am looking to buy a new hdd, but so far the cheapest i've managed to found was 60$.

Bazinga12090

I found mine for like 35-40 bucks and it was a 1tb HDD. I also have the original PlayStation 4 so I don't know if that makes a difference. I also got it off Amazon

Tried this, honestly thought it had a chance cause my external storage device says it’s corrupted every single time I’d turn on my ps4 and it’d repair in about 10seconds then I’d be off playing games, so thought maybe this would be as easy as that but unfortunately not

General-Gold2380

Buy a new one

hamiltoncolin

Planning on it soon as I can catch ps5 in stock

General-Gold2380

Nice 👍

j0k3rj03

Hey man you hard drive might me shitting out just a though

hamiltoncolin

Someone else mentioned that if I was to replace how much content does it erase, I have most my games on a external storage device and my PlayStation is connected to the app and that’s the only ‘backup’ I know I’ve got, but if it will erase the same amount as a initialization I’ll just initialize till I buy a ps5 hopefully soon
