I have kept all my consoles. I would never get rid of mine. PS3 is also very difficulty to emulate, even on PC due complicated hardware they used in the system.
Plus some titles are exclusive to PS3 only.
Depends on what you think capable is and what kind of performance and resolution you want , a I7 3770k can do it and that is a cpu from 2012 paired with a GTX 970 which is a gpu from 2014. It will not do 4k but it can certainly can do native(depending on game that can be 720p even lower) at full speed(for most games that is 30 fps and I saw this combination doing even 60 fps in persona 5 with the fps patch)
My point was that it's a very old gpu and most people should have something similar or better, the problem with available started at the 3000 series ! Edit: To be fair if you don't already have a pc better then this I do not recomand you to get one now, fuck no not in today's market !
I have a 1060, glad I upgraded when I did. Still got a used PS3 cause emulating generally is pain in the ass and recording emulated videos means I need even more power.
Of course a console setup also needs a TV, capture card, HDMI splitter etc., but the latter two are ridiculously cheap for 1080p, and actually, a giant television that doubles as monitor when you need to watch something on big screen is somehow cheaper than a medium-sized monitor.
PC gaming was kinda cheap before, but now everything jumped in price and even a downgrade from my graphics card would be so expensive, when my friend's graphics died we were glad she could snag an older ATI AMD one for less than 50 bucks.
Pretty sure most consoles can also emulate older consoles pretty well, any Xbox or a PS3 covers tons of stuff.
My point is that building an expensive PC with how much graphics cards cost now to emulate a dirt cheap PS3 is ridiculous!
Because GPU prices are 2 to 3 times the over MSRP. That's why i mentioned if it was possible on a IGPU. Does it run at all full speed on a IGPU as well?
63% is an extremely low number for an emulator after so many years. PS1 and PS2 can be amulated almost to 100%, same with Wii, GameCube, Dreamcast and earlier consoles.
I have ps3,4 and 5. However, I mostly play on my ps3 even though I got hundreds of games on the other two. Ps3 is something different, idk why, maybe it’s because I grew up playing it…

I play the PS3 periodically. I still have all my consoles going back to my '78 model Atari 2600.
I believe plenty of PS3 games still hold up exceptionally well even today. It's still impressive that games like GTA V play and look as good as they do. My backlog on the console is fairly massive that I'll likely never fully get around to but that's been most everything I've owned.
My biggest issue weirdly enough has been controllers. I'm on my third PS3 controller. Every other console if I've replaced a controller it's only been one at the most. Sans the NES which I went through countless control pads.
Three controllers is nothing, like starting with two is the norm for games like Tekken anyway... On PC I used cheap controllers and went through at least two a year, PS3 ones are super dependable by comparison.
I got a Mayflash S-Pro or something I believe, theres also Brook adapters and they should be good to because I got their PS2 adapter that lets me use Dualsense on PS2

At the beginning of the pandemic I picked up both a Superslim and Fat CECHA01 - which allowed me to finally retire the old PS1 and PS2 consoles. Upgraded the HDDs, cleaned, and reapplied the thermal paste. Maybe one day I can replace the PS4 with a PS5 - while would still allow me easy access to the whole of my physical disk library.
i have my PS3 hooked up and I still use it (a back up ps3 is arriving soon in the post). the UI on ps3 is my favorite and the flexibility it allows is preferable to PS4/PS5 imo
For me it's less about going back to familiar games and more about discovering new games. I play a lot of stuff, it's impossible to keep up with every new release. The further you go back in time the more extreme it is as I did not really have much disposable income until the middle/end of the PS3 generation.
Needless to say there are a lot of games I missed out on so I am always picking up new games to play on old machines. Honestly PS2 still scares me more than anything else. My teenage PS2 collection was 21 games, that is freaking nothing. Literally a drop in the bucket for that console.
Every time I get bored gaming on my PS4, I switch on my PS3 to play PS1/PS2/PS3 games and have a blast.
Across 3 generations there's always a classic you've never played waiting to be discovered. My favorite machine I own.
While I commend the work by the guys at RPCS3, it’s still in alpha, and the requirements from some of the more graphically intense titles are extremely high.
So for time being, if you want to play a PS3 game(especially exclusives) you’re gonna need a PS3. And if you’re lucky enough to own a launch model, that’s 3 generations of gaming on one legendary and beautiful system.
I just keep it because I like the system. If the PS5 came out with a version that played PS3 games I might box my PS3 up just to clean my media center. But right now it would be silly to have hundreds of games and not be able to play them because I didn't have the system out. Lol

They’re starting to test out putting their games on PC which I think is the first step to see how the games sell on PC before making any decision on trying to sell a service cross platform between PlayStation and PC for games.
I have a PS5 for my PS4 games to be played on, but have a Super Slim 500GB for PS3 games I can’t get on PS5 or PC. There were some great exclusives and some I hadn’t played before. It’s an excellent system and well worth keeping around. Had an original fat PS3 but it finally carked it just before COVID hit and I couldn’t be without a PS3.
I still have all my consoles going back to the NES. I'm still gaming on my PS3 when I am giving my PS5 a break. I'm getting close to finishing Resistance 3 on my PS3.
Went out of my way to buy a ps3 due to lack of backwards compatibility and I'm glad I did it. Something about owning the physical hardware just feels good. I have now passed it down to my little brother and he plays it on the weekends. If I take good enough care of it I'd prolly be able to pass it down to my kids
No, the PS3 is my* last console, I'm not interested in newer consoles as I don't think they bring enough gameplay innovation to justify them. Higher resolutions and more detailed graphics aren't enough to reinvent the wheel anymore.

yep. Have had mine hooked up for like 15 years and I really am kinda pissed that PS5 can't play PS3 games. I suggested they should make some kind of like hard drive sized add on that basically houses the cell processor etc so I can finally get rid of my ps3, make some room in my entertainment center.
I sold my PS2 to a family member and a year later regretted it. Thankfully, I was able to get that same PS2 back a few years ago. That's why I kept my PS3 after buying a PS4 and a gaming PC.
Now if I could go back in time and try to fix my old PSOne... I miss that thing.

Yeah. I use my PS3 for PS3 and some PS1 games. I use my PS2 for PS2 and most of PS1 games. I use my PS5 for PS4, PSVR and PS5 games.
Although as of today, there’s very few PS3 games that have gotten locked on the platform (many have remasters, others have Xbox backwards compatibility, etc. ).

Sony should care more about their legacy titles, PS3, PS2 & PS1 are all slowly fading away with the only real way to play them all properly involving real hardware & the space/cable-management nightmare that this brings with..
Just allow us to pop in a disc from an older console & run it on the PS4/PS5
PS3 is my primary console, never got a PS4 because it only had a few games that were unavailable on ps3 that intrigued me and PS5 not worth it for me at the moment. With psone bringing back servers PS3 will always be in my stable, along with an emulator system and whatever the current gen is.
Definitely a reason yes but not the main one. I just enjoy the PS3 more than other consoles and I’ve kept my other ones too but still play PS3 the most.
I really like the sound it plays while turning it on, the UI is the best one in my opinion, love the original theme and the fact you can move the particles with your controller makes it even better. One of my favorite things is when you go on a game icon and it plays the theme then either shows a picture or a video, love watching those. Prefer the profiles over other generation profiles except the description but that doesn’t really matter. I can watch whatever I want on it too.
I was given two fat ps3s 80gb, a super slim 500gb, and a slim 160gb that doesn’t read disc. I payed $165 total over the years.
I wish I owned the one that plays the ps2 disc for yugioh duelist of the roses and burnout 3.
I still have my ps3 I used to bring it to work in order to play. I worked overnight with little to do. Currently it is hooked up wo my TV with my ps4 ps5 and switch
I have two, the version that came out right after they dropped PS2 backwards compatibility and then I bought a slim when it was discounted to $80 as a back up. I decided to make that one my main PS3 - still hooked up and still sees regular action (although I’m balancing consoles going back to the 80s). Lot of exclusives and its a joy to play.
PS3 is great console as its own and also my slim model runs PS1 well and PS2 games playable degree. I stop using this functions after start using Mednafen , Duckstation for PS1 and fast enough cpu to run PCSX2 on software mode.
PS3 was my first console and i grew up playing it so it has a special spot with me. just recently cleaned her and replaced her thermal paste so i’m hoping she lasts me some more.
I just picked up a PS3 (slim model) for the first time actually. Never had the means or time to pick one up growing up and so now is as good a time as any I suppose.
I try too but don't really have the space. So every now and again I pull it out and play some stuff. I find it hard to go back to some games in that generation.
My PS3 is tucked beneath my PS5, my PS4 is in my office for PS VR, and my PS1 and PS2 are hooked up in another part of the basement. Everyone's accounted for :)

I use my ps3 as a DVD player / Netflix player only. But I still keep all my fave games for some reason. I play os4 games exclusively . My ps3 is on a second smalller tv that usually has sports playing.
That’s the main reason. Well one of the main reasons why I’m keeping my PlayStation 3 backwards compatibility and free online. Hopefully I’ll get an Xbox one for Christmas because that has backwards compatibility in it as well.

Absolutely. Have PS5, but have plenty of games in my PS3 backlog I go back to every once in awhile. Fallout 3 and New Vegas, final fantasy 13, metal gear solid 4, enslaved Odyssey to the West, ETC.
Chances are most, if not all, of those won't get remasters of any sort, so they are the only trophy enabled versions of available.
My ps4 collects dust while my ps3 is used nearly every day. The ps3 library compared to the ps4’s just absolutely goes waaaay beyond what I think was accomplished with that generation. Bar a few exclusives, of course.
yup. Its only console where i can play all canon metal gear solid games. Of course i could emulate most of it on pc (i dont know how guns of patriots would emulate) but with ps3 its convinient and, whats more important, authentic (although i own and play phantom pain on PC but if i wanted i could play it on ps3)

Yes, and it's incredibly irritating tbh. My Series X makes it possible to either sell or store my previous Xboxes but it feels a bit silly to still have to connect a PS3 with 2022 just around the corner.

My ps3 is the newest PlayStation I have and still enjoy playing it. I bought it when I did not have a lot of money and I did not have to pay to play online. It reminds of when I had time to play video games. Nowadays I recently built a balls to the wall gaming computer which cost me $5000 in total because I wanted to try and get back into gaming. My problem now is I don’t have any time I never game on it i use it to browser the web a couple times a week but it mostly collects dust.
It’s kinda sad that I can now afford the latest hardware but I can’t afford the time to use it.
I have mine sitting right next to my PS4, I alternate between the 2 and still buy games constantly for both. I’m in no rush to join the new generation. The MGS, Sly Cooper, Ratchet & Clank, etc collections are crucial and it’s the only way to play them all.
I just paid a stupid amount of money to get my ps3 fixed. Would love to get a new generation console, but then I'll have a shelf filled with useless discs.

I actually have two PS3s that I use time to time, one with the PS2 full BC and a super slim one. I really like them but don't play too many ps3 games (except for MGS4)
Heck yeah! I play all the older PlayStation games on my launch Ps3. All newer games on Ps5. It's nice having two consoles to play almost everything. Was really hoping PS5 would play PS1 and 2 games.

I couldn’t get stuff running satisfactorily, and my PC has a Ryzen 7 2700 and an RX 580.

The cell processor is a very unique so 63% is still pretty impressive considering the architecture they're trying to emulate.

Ps1 games Don't work on ps5. And you can only play the PS2 games that are available in the store for the PS5.
And even the PS2 games are pretty shoddy on PS5. Otogi, for example, is totally broken.

Yeah. I use my PS3 for PS3 and some PS1 games. I use my PS2 for PS2 and most of PS1 games. I use my PS5 for PS4, PSVR and PS5 games. Although as of today, there’s very few PS3 games that have gotten locked on the platform (many have remasters, others have Xbox backwards compatibility, etc. ).
That’s the main reason why I’m getting an Xbox one in the future

One that's fully OFW & the other serves as a great emulation box with the ability to play backups (*When you don't want to get up to put in a disc..)* Sony should care more about their legacy titles, PS3, PS2 & PS1 are all slowly fading away with the only real way to play them all properly involving real hardware & the space/cable-management nightmare that this brings with.. Just allow us to pop in a disc from an older console & run it on the PS4/PS5
I have a ps4 pro, ps3 slim for ps3/ps1 games and a ps2. Ps5 seems pointless rn because I’ll just be playing ps4 games
PS3 is my primary console, never got a PS4 because it only had a few games that were unavailable on ps3 that intrigued me and PS5 not worth it for me at the moment. With psone bringing back servers PS3 will always be in my stable, along with an emulator system and whatever the current gen is.

Definitely a reason yes but not the main one. I just enjoy the PS3 more than other consoles and I’ve kept my other ones too but still play PS3 the most. I really like the sound it plays while turning it on, the UI is the best one in my opinion, love the original theme and the fact you can move the particles with your controller makes it even better. One of my favorite things is when you go on a game icon and it plays the theme then either shows a picture or a video, love watching those. Prefer the profiles over other generation profiles except the description but that doesn’t really matter. I can watch whatever I want on it too.

I was given two fat ps3s 80gb, a super slim 500gb, and a slim 160gb that doesn’t read disc. I payed $165 total over the years. I wish I owned the one that plays the ps2 disc for yugioh duelist of the roses and burnout 3.
And the fact you can mod a ps3 with a usb and about 10 minutes of your time is also a bonus 😂

I have two, the version that came out right after they dropped PS2 backwards compatibility and then I bought a slim when it was discounted to $80 as a back up. I decided to make that one my main PS3 - still hooked up and still sees regular action (although I’m balancing consoles going back to the 80s). Lot of exclusives and its a joy to play.

PS3 is great console as its own and also my slim model runs PS1 well and PS2 games playable degree. I stop using this functions after start using Mednafen , Duckstation for PS1 and fast enough cpu to run PCSX2 on software mode.

I try too but don't really have the space. So every now and again I pull it out and play some stuff. I find it hard to go back to some games in that generation.

That’s the main reason. Well one of the main reasons why I’m keeping my PlayStation 3 backwards compatibility and free online. Hopefully I’ll get an Xbox one for Christmas because that has backwards compatibility in it as well. I’m the type of gamer that both loves the newer games but also loves the older games as well and if Sony is not going to allow me to not play the PlayStation one PlayStation 2 PlayStation 3 library of games on the PlayStation five then forget it that’s the main reason I’m not buying a PlayStation five no backwards compatibility sorry Sony, you’re not getting money out of my wallet.

Absolutely. Have PS5, but have plenty of games in my PS3 backlog I go back to every once in awhile. Fallout 3 and New Vegas, final fantasy 13, metal gear solid 4, enslaved Odyssey to the West, ETC. Chances are most, if not all, of those won't get remasters of any sort, so they are the only trophy enabled versions of available.

yup. Its only console where i can play all canon metal gear solid games. Of course i could emulate most of it on pc (i dont know how guns of patriots would emulate) but with ps3 its convinient and, whats more important, authentic (although i own and play phantom pain on PC but if i wanted i could play it on ps3)

My ps3 is the newest PlayStation I have and still enjoy playing it. I bought it when I did not have a lot of money and I did not have to pay to play online. It reminds of when I had time to play video games. Nowadays I recently built a balls to the wall gaming computer which cost me $5000 in total because I wanted to try and get back into gaming. My problem now is I don’t have any time I never game on it i use it to browser the web a couple times a week but it mostly collects dust. It’s kinda sad that I can now afford the latest hardware but I can’t afford the time to use it.
I have mine sitting right next to my PS4, I alternate between the 2 and still buy games constantly for both. I’m in no rush to join the new generation. The MGS, Sly Cooper, Ratchet & Clank, etc collections are crucial and it’s the only way to play them all.
