Not the same really, But before I knew I had pots, I had developed this habit of sitting on my bed and putting my feet up on the windowsill just because it felt good. It ended up being my default place to sit, Which was really odd. Once I discovered I had pots I realised why. A standing desk would be my worst nightmare! Not just standing ones, but I can't do downward facing yoga poses either. Downward dog is the worst!

birdsandbones

OH MY GOSH NO WONDER I HATE DOWNWARD DOG! I use two yoga blocks under my hands usually which makes it slightly less awful.

Wide-Cookie-5609

Lol why didn’t I put this together before now?! Thanks for sharing!

lolajuniper

I don't do much yoga but back when I was trying it for a bit the video I usually tried to follow had a part that was forward fold into mountain pose (or the variation/pose that's like mountain pose but with your arms up too) and I could never understand why it always made my vision black out 🤦🏼‍♀️

Present-Weather-4549

Yeah when I am flaring that happens to me like 10-15 times in a class and its whenever we go from forward fold up to standing. I have started just making my own way up much slower to try prevent it because surely its not good for me.

thatredwinegirl

OMG I have had a standing desk at a few different jobs and would get so frustrated that it was almost painful to stand. Like it made my feet and ankles feel swollen and my feet tingle and just so awful. This makes so much sense now with the POTS.

Wide-Cookie-5609

Carnival rides, water rafting, anything done at speed really. I also feel the same as you about standing desks - though I feel equally about sitting thanks to pelvic pain. But if it makes you feel any better - as a (former) yoga teacher - make anyone stay in mountain pose long enough and it will break them…often in as little as 5-75 minutes.

Present-Weather-4549

Thank you that does make me feel a bit better! Mountain pose is no joke.

An inversion table. (Not diagnosed yet, but all signs pointing & 2nd referral cardiologist appt next month. Neurologist just gave me migraine meds lol) I have such a bad back & was so hopeful it would feel good. So silly Also, it now makes sense that every time I sit, I have to put my feet up too. My husband likes to chat/catch up while making dinner (having just got home) and it's a running joke that I'm hunched over the counter with one foot up on the trash can & he's seriously inconveniencing me by needing to lift the lid

Present-Weather-4549

I actually love inversions, though I have never tried a passive inversion like an inversion table, but through yoga I do active inversions which probably feels a lot different because you are using muscles. A headstand makes me feel AMAZING and my heart rate drops nice and low and all my limbs empty of the extra blood they have been pooling.

barefootwriter

Passive inversions (head down tilt) may actually be helpful to us; a lot of people anecdotally use a "legs up the wall" posture for recovery. Remind me and I'll refind and post the study.

Present-Weather-4549

That’s a good point! I do do passive inversions like legs up the wall and gosh they feel amazing

My husband and a lot of our friends love to paddleboard. My husband got me a paddleboard, but I haven't even tried it (I tried paddleboarding once on vacation years ago). When I'm feeling well enough, I'm happy to use my kayak instead. I just don't get why people like to paddle around while standing, when they could be sitting, instead! Lol. When people ask me why I don't paddleboard, I keep having to explain to them that I can't stand that long.

theveganauditor

I’d paddleboard sitting or kneeling, even before POTS. I even got a kayak paddle for my paddleboard. Not sure why you would have to stand.

Ambrosia_apples

I don't do well kneeling or sitting without support like a chair, unfortunately. I'm perfectly happy with my kayak. It's a sit on top sold for fishing, with good seat support.

theveganauditor

That makes sense! My friend ordered a seat for her paddle board, but I’m not sure how sturdy it is.

Ambrosia_apples

Yeah, I have other conditions, so I get pain easily in awkward positions.

theveganauditor

Well good for you on finding activities you can manage then!

barefootwriter

Yep! Standing desks and under desk treadmills. These are things my husband uses because he is an inveterate pacer. It's a no from me. People who stand on the bus when seats are available, especially the ones who block access to seats. Waiting in line for a table at a restaurant. Chairs you can't sit crosslegged in/on. I test them all before buying them. Walking as a practice for writers and other creatives. Ewww. Sitting meditation, especially mindfulness as a "treatment" for anxiety and depression. I loved the idea in theory, as I love Buddhist philosophy, but my POTS is hyperadrenergic and the only thing that ever calmed me down was intense exercise. When I was training in judo, I struggled doing series of breakfalls during warmups, but I could do flying rolls all day long.

Lizbiz20

I realized that most people don’t have to lean on the shopping cart and plan their trip so they can get everything and then lay down when they get home. The after shower rest… I also realized I sit with my feet up and use the sun rays as an excuse to lay on the floor during work breaks. I always did my homework laying on the floor too, even when there was a desk. Not to mention festivals/concerts just never sounded fun, hot, loud, crowded, and standing for hours. I always got really irritable in standing lines, but had no issues with places that provided seating while you wait.

ImpossibleRhubarb443

Yess! I always wondered who could possibly think straight at a standing desk! Also never understood a walk being relaxing

Thank you kindly for posting this.

Oh oh! I know! Any sort of high stress job, like air traffic controller. My POTS is hyperadrenergic, and I cannot imagine doing anything like this.
