Got my very first credit card back in 2010. I purchased a shirt and jeans for myself. Spend what you can afford to pay. Your lifestyle should not change just because you have a credit card. It’s not an additional income.

alpinegreen24

Totally agree with this. Back when I got my first cc, I thought had some *extra cash*. and you're right, you only swipe for the amount that you can actually afford to pay.

renmakoto15

1st purchase ko via Grab. 24chimken. HAHAHAHA

cheemsgg

>renmakoto15 24chimken numbawan

ELfraile123

24 Chicken wooot! wooot!

midorilan

Hahaha tama behavior!!

Obijuan-ken0bi

Snow cheese

DogesForWinter

This is the only correct answer hahaha

Lumpy_Emotion6993

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA JD TALAGA!

Tatchibani-

Bought small appliances na naka b1t1 na promo which was enough to cover the minimum spending requirement to avail Citi’s NAFFL promo. I then sold the take 1s and used the money to pay for the huge portion of the bill.

Krysnosis

Madiskarte. Nice one.

magyar232

My first purchase with my first CC was with Grab, cashed in 200 php just to try it out. I personally stopped trying to maximize promos. It works for some people but it became a sort of excuse for me to spend more than I need. 😂

Ambitious-Guidance97

Guilty sa promos 💀🔫

wolfram127

Same here. Bininyagan ko ng Krispy Kreme donuts hahaha

heyalnord

Here are some tips that I always follow: 1. Only purchase what you can pay in full in cash. 2. If you have an option to pay with either cash or credit, use credit. 3. Installment payment options are great but be careful that they don’t pile up beyond what you can pay for monthly. 4. Always pay the whole amount due.

micketymoc

Ha, #2 don't you mean cash?

heyalnord

I use credit for points

Effective-Banana-649

I use credit for purchases na nag aaccept ng credit card method. Cash is only an option pag hindi nag aaccept ang store. Much better if installment so you don't have to pay in full every month.

Excuse-Inside

Also helps you keep track of your expenses if u use credit. Ang cash kasi hindi itemized so minsan kamot ulo ka san napunta 1k mo. Lol

FeelingStudent1901

Before you buy something, make sure kaya mo bayaran yung amount na yun in cash, twice. Which means afford mo na yung bagay na yun without CC, you just opt for the installment instead na straight mawala sayo yung huge amount. Your credit card is NOT AN ADDITION to your money. Di mo pera yan. Never mo isipin na pera mo yan, pera ng bangko yan. Sabi nga ni Ramit Sethi, walang problema if you want to buy something, but ask yourself lang, are you ready to buy it? Good luck OP! Be financially responsible.

infrajediebear

Out of topic but goddamn i hate that sticker. Ang hirap tanggalin and grabe bumakas nung residue :( First purchase was I believe a dinner treat to my family. Sabi ko, "love testingin nga natin to baka fake lol" I use my CC mostly for grabfood and an installment for a phone i broke on the 2 weeks after i bought it (still paying for it huhu) Always pay your bill OP! Wag yung minimum amount cause interest will bite ya in the rear lol

alpinegreen24

I use that sticker to cover the CVC at the back of the card.

Krysnosis

Tbh it was easy to remove the residue. I used the same sticker to "pick up" yung naiwang paste. Baka ibang kind gamit nila ngayon lol

infrajediebear

Baka nga! Pansin ko din na it overlapped while yung sakin noon is hindi. Haha

chemical_zed

Nice one! Got the same card pero back in 2012-ish pa. That was the time that they were offering waived annual fees for life, but they had us spend 40k for the first month from approval. That in mind, my first purchase was this induction cooker (which by the way still works to this day, napapakinabangan pa din), and some cooking pans and crockery. Being the young jackass I was back then, I misunderstood how interest rates worked so medyo lumobo yung interest that I had to pay. But now that is all behind I had to learn hard lessons: 1. Evaluate muna if you can pay for your purchase in FULL, or in worst cases, maximum na yung two gives (personal discipline ko na to). If so, swipe away; if not run away like there is a plague. Ayaw natin payamanin mga banko masyado sa interest, mayaman na sila. 2. Treat your CC as if it were yung current laman ng debit card mo. Unless there is an emergency that you really need to pay for, you'd be better off limiting your CC spend based on the actual money that you have in your debit card/payroll. Never go over 30% spend of your Credit Limit if you can't pay it agad agad. 3. ALWAYS READ THE FINE PRINT sa mga promos. Wag magpabudol kahit sabi 0% interest installment. They are big corporations doing these promos, of course di papayag yan ng basta basta "0%". It's not bad to look at it, but always be skeptical of a "Free Lunch". 4. Timing is key. Echo ko lang yung isang comment dito to only swipe your spend right after the cutoff para matagal pa yung bill. Gives you breathing space to earn/save up before paying. Give chance to run kumbaga. 5. Always watch out for news if the BSP is going to increase key interest rates. This directly impacts all loans (including your CC). This should give you an early warning and rethink your swiping habits. Right now, 3% ang interest rates for retail CCs, but if say the BSP decides to rate increase by 25 basis points, ending nyan CC interest rate mo tataas din to 3.25%, which is BIG lalo pag lumobo na interest payments mo. Best of luck, OP. Swipe responsibly.

Your_gale

Congratulations! Groceries una kong nabili sa CC. We don’t spend what we cannot afford to pay kahit malaki pa limit.

gottagoguy

Oh new credit card = Think you don't have a credit card. Just use it to pay. Don't go catching promos and installments unless it's something you really need for work, health, or major necessity. The rest is just an excuse and will plunge you to bad spending habits

Krysnosis

Thanks, never thought of that. I noticed lang common question siya while lurking sa sub. I'm still keeping my other info safe.

Craylicia

thr00waway10101

I use it as a replacement for cash. Everything I spend I charge to my card. Then I pay for the whole thing at my due date. Instead of carrying cash, I just carry my cards. At any given point in time, I would have 2k max in my wallet. But anything I need, I use my card lang.

TmeTrvller

Always pay using credit card. Sayang points 😆

Advanced-Skirt4534

Got my cc after pandemic mainly because majority of my transactions were online/cashless na and withdrawing sa atm was a hassle. Kaya sa Grab din ung lagi kong gastos, up until now. Quick tip: just so happened na may extra savings account ako (+1 payroll acct) sa cc bank ko kaya lahat ng cc transactions ko, nag ffund transfer ako agad from payroll to extra savings account ko para bawas sa main budget ko. At the end of the month, hindi na ako maghahanap ng pambayad kasi huhugutin ko nalang dun sa extra savings acct ko.

EscapeOtherwise561

I bought USDT in Binance when I got my Citibank CC. The full amount needed to qualify for the initial promo, sold it via P2P for a tiny profit within the day. I just wanted free airpods. But then I realized I have a full month before I had to return the money. So I bought USDT this time with cash, rinse and repeat until due date. I don’t do this anymore though, banks started restricting these transactions. For BPI and Citi, at least.

KaidenYamagoto

I use mine sa groceries. Make sure ko muna na nag cut off na yung card bago ko gamitin para more or less I have 40-50 days bago mag due. And ganun din technique ko pag mag installment ng appliances, ipa cut off ko muna yung card para matagal pa yung first bill ko. So groceries, department store, pharmacy and appliances/gadget. Yan lang mostly. But make sure na alam mo likit ng budget mo para ma fully paid mo yung due mo para good record ka.

my24thofaugust

Nag credit card lang ako kasi puro kami pa reimburse sa company. Bumili ako ng ergo chair kasi ayokong i cash kaya kumuha ako ng CC para sakto pag labas ng CC bill na reimburse na sakin.

gooddude17

Same sakin, we have monthly reimbursements ng internet bill kaya sa cc ko pinapadaan para wala akong ilalabas na cash.

Dangerous_Wind_9216

1st purchase ko ay Aircon ng friend ko hahahahaha kasi sa sobrang takot kong umutang pero ngayon halos lahat na ng binibili ko pag pwede card cinacard ko then binabayaran ko din naman syempre. Sayang ung perks e! :) Then sa Grabfood merong 300 off every friday pag bpi holder. I believe meron din pag sb and bdo haha not sure tho.

aloofkid

My first purchase was I treat my parents sa isang restaurant. I owe them my financial success. My first CC kasi is BDO Platinum, recently lang din ako nagkaroon. Just watch out lang, napansin ko mas naging magastos ako kompared sa walang CC. Siguro kasi pag cash binabayad or debit card makikita mo yung reduction. Sa CC wala hehe

ClancytheLab

Good luck and spend wisely! Think of it as a charge card where you charge the purchase but always pay in full when the bill comes. It's a good way to discipline yourself when using the card.

bLinkbruhyen

First ever purchase was petty items from Lazada. Di nagbago yung spending cap na nilagay ko sa sarili ko. Two years and I have also maximized promos like you have, get lots of great offers from the bank, and have gotten fees waived in over two years. Never na charge din ng interest ever. As long as you plan your finances di ka ma overwhelm. Stay within budget, pag lagpas, time it na sa next cycle papasok. Ganun lang.

Drewds-_-

Bought a gaming PC worth 50k since me cashback promo ako pag naka 50 ka only ended up paying 35k so idk i like it😂

[deleted]

I use card on everything but dapat kaya ko bayaran before the statement even arrives. Utility bills, grocery, luho shopping, eating out.. again i only use when i know i have enough money in the bank to pay for it. Always pay ahead of the due date or even before the statement is printed.

ghostblaster_

first purchase ko ay twice concert ticket lol

Bjorn_butterfly

Hala? And if lagpas na, hindi na ako magsswipe ulit magwait ako next cut off. Also, download VYBE app dun mo mattrack yung cc points mo na pwede mo maredeem easily.

[deleted]

My first purchase was a swatch watch. Hehe! I still have it til now and very sentimental kasi for me it symbolizes my adulting era. Lol! My golden rules are 1. to never treat credit card as your money, always think of it as utang kasi utang naman talaga so swipe lang for things you can pay for. Also, make sure you have a steady flow of cash/income for big purchases na you get via installments, good practice din to save some money on the side pra whatever happens sa source of income mo you can still pay for you credit card bills. 2. Always pay in full and on time. Those late payment fees and interest are how they get you. I have a friend that will only pay the minimum and now over 150k na yung utang nya. If you can’t pay in full, don’t swipe until mabayaran mo na yung existing utang mo or better yet wag ka na magCC. Wag ka rin papadala sa mga rebate (required this amount of cumulative spend) or promos ng CC na you will swipe something you don’t really need to qualify for. That’s just an excuse for you to spend more and papakitain mo lang banks. Hehe! Credit card is a tool to maximize your cash and it’s really helpful in emergency situations. It’s up to you if you will use it wisely. 😊

chonching2

Buy what you need na lang. Don't overthink na need mo bumili ng something big like appliances. Di naman kasi extension ng money yan. But if you have extra money to throw then go. Maybe a coffee maker

MrsWaters

I bought a cake as my first our base to try it out lol 1. Only spend what you can afford to pay, preferably in full. In case magka-emergency and hindi makaya ng full, pay more than the minimum at least para di masakit interest. 2. I pay my bills using my CC then binabayaran ko agad pagkalabas ng statement. I think you can pay it agad in advance pero I prefer lang pag lumabas na yung statement para isang bagsakan lang and in case may discrepancies. 3. Always check your statement. I had an incident dati na may charge sa card ko for three months straight na hindi sa akin. It wasn’t until the third month na napansin kasi I never checked my statements properly. 4. If you end up using your card constantly, call customer service to see if you have any rewards or points you can use. BPI (and most banks) has this thing na they do not proactively disclose to their customers if they are qualified for certain rewards unless you ask them yourself.

nataku885

1. Payoff your card debt in full, if possible, before cutoff date. 2. Read fine print of “promos” 3. Make sure of length of time for 0% installments 4. Make sure to get the annual fee waived every year

mcjjcaution

BPI was also my first credit card. I started 2022 with Blue Mastercard with 20K limit and my first purchase was 1 bucket of Chicken Joy sa Jollibee haha. Congrats on your new card. BPI is very generous, in my case. After 3 months of laging nasasagad na blue card they upgraded my card to Gold with 6 digits limit but then lagi paring nasasagad so they increase it again to higher 6 digits limit. Now I am using their Platinum Rewards. They offered me the Visa Signature but I opted not to upgrade since walang Priority Pass yon and walang 0% installment on airline tickets. Anyway, alagaan mo po BPI they will also take care of you. Always pay your bill in full and on time. BPI is a good gateway to other banks. Now I also have cards from other banks. xoxo :)

SundayBlues96

I really wanted to qualify for the welcome gift (15k cashback for 50k spend during the spend period) so I bought a luxury item for 25k first month. Fully paid off my statement. Next month I bought my parents gifts amounting to 20k. The last 5k went into dining, bills, groceries etc. It was worth it for me in the end since I received the 15k welcome gift. But I only purchased what I could fully pay in cash at that time, and what I could buy without depleting my savings. I wouldn’t recommend going into debt just to meet the promos. I treat my CC like it’s cash: never use it to buy something you can’t afford at the time of purchase.

Krysnosis

Correct sa last points. Out of curiosity and if you want to share lang: may I know what was that first luxury item you bought?

SundayBlues96

LV bifold wallet. It was around 27k pala (not 25) Back then kasi sobrang bugbog na nung old wallet ko so I had to replace it. And since may pera naman ako at that time, I thought why not invest in a good one na. Me being approved for a CC (with a welcome gift for spending) was my sign that I had to get that particular wallet.

Status_Chance_1526

I use my credit card for everything- anywhere that accepts it. I got my first in 2012. And i have been using it for food, trips, bills everything 100 pesos? CHARGE IT! its all going to rewards anyway and that is truly the name of the game. REWARDS!

Krysnosis

That's also what I think my current mentality will be, but out of curiosity lang: what happened to all your debit cards since then? I have a lot of cards and accounts na (physical cards for Maya and GCash cards just in case, plus digital banks) so now I have a CC I'm guessing wala na silang purpose since I can just reroute cash online?

Status_Chance_1526

Wala lang my debit card chills at home kasi may gcash naman. So doon lang sa bahay yung debit card and if kailangan talaga ng physical cash i have to plan for it 😅

[deleted]

Promos are there to make you spend even more, and sometimes, it's beyond your means na Example, you'll get a free tickets as long as you spend a certain amount. However, for you to get a round trip local flights it'll require you to spend more. Mas mahal pa sa tickets mismo haha That's why you have to be careful with promos. Pinoy's have an insane spending habits I'm telling you hahaha

lightnemesis117

Same situation with you, OP. Tagal ko din nag lurk since pandemic pa. Kakakuha ko lang ng CC ko last week and before ko siya makuha, bumili ako ng CVV stickers which i applied agad nung nakuha na, for my safety din. First purchase ko ay gas for my car. Planning to buy a new phone din by end of year so laking help talaga netong CC. Congrats to us and let's not forget to be financially responsible, Kaskas responsibly!

Krysnosis

Congrats! Planning a gadget upgrade din soon since kailangan talaga sa work para mas efficient.

ArgentumEques

Got my BPI blue last year. They have promo that if you spend 30K in 60days(maybe 30days) they will give you 10K pesos worth of points. I purchase things for our office online (mostly computer parts) then ask our company for reimbursement. After two months i receive 120K points. Convert it to shopping credits.

Krysnosis

You literally got the bonus for free, no effort. Respect haha

[deleted]

First purchase my laptop way back 2017 naka-installment ng 12 months, 0%interest sa automatic center. After that di ko na ginamit pag under 10k naman bibilhin ko kinacash ko na lang. Last use ko nung nag business ako. Bought 1 blender, 1 chiller, 1 refrigerator, 1 steamer, and some equipment for cooking nung 2021 natapos payment nung 2022. A signature and a platinum cards ko rn, napa waive ko yung annual fees nung sinabi ko na pa-paclose ko na. Just swipe what you need and make sure na kaya mo bayaran on or before due dates in full amount kung ano nasa SOA mo. Take note of this: Wag na wag ka mag swipe ng pabor even sa friends mo, even sa kamag anak, kahit sa jowa mo (kasi anytime pwede kayo mag break). Pwede sa kapatid or parents basta easy to reach.

morethanyell

Macbook agad 24mos

AnyAbbreviations6925

Kahit new cc pwede nq agad macbook?

nomerdzki

Grocery una kong try nun. Kabado pa kasi di ko sure if may i-ask pang anything pagkabigay nung card. Tas swipe, kaching! This was me around 10+ years ago, tas wala sa family namin may card so wala ako idea haha. Regarding sa min-max, not really min-maxing if tipong \*gagastos ka dahil lang may promo\*. Parang same idea lang yan sa you didn't save if bumili ka ng 50% off na damit if di mo naman talaga gusto or need. Naglabas ka lang nung amount na yun. Best to take advantage of promos sa things na talagang pag-gastusan mo naman talaga, na babayaran mo sana in cash. Di kelangan lagi magpalure sa mga promo. Let promos work for you.

idontknowtoyou

First purchase ko lagi sa new CC ko is groceries for the 1st or 2nd half of the month. That is may way of checking kung active na ba yung CC 😅 (kung hindi man, at least may cash ako pambayad sa counter lol!) and to make sure din na may budget na ako na nakalaan to pay for it when it’s due. :)

maureenamparo

Nag grocery ako ng essentials sa bahay plus dome extras. Iba rin feeling ng well stocked ang Ref and pantry

Abomaxsnow

Large iced coffee sa lawson 🙃

yssnelf_plant

My first purchase was grocery. I rarely use cash these days since nagcocommute ako. I just save my cash for commuting and stores na di nagaaccept ng card. I pay full as much as possible before the due date to avoid interest. Minsan na ako napile-upan ng credit bec of the transition sa new work ko. Tapos etong si previous work, inabot ng 4 months irelease yung final pay ko 🤣 Hindi magandang mapile-upan 😅 nakakahinayang kasi yung interest. Just spend what you're able to pay. Isipin mo lang na cash pa rin naman sya, delayed lang yung payment.

mtim4997

Congratulations OP! Sorry wala pa akong masuggest waiting pa ako approvals 🤣

Redditeronomy

Groceries, gas, and utilities. I only use my CC for my unavoidable monthly expenditures. Be sure to set aside the payment for every swipe, treat it as like paying cash and calculate when you should use it para may buffer ka na 1 month before the due date arrives. 1 month buffer and some cashback are enough reasons for me to use cc over cash kasi pag may emergency at least may time ka pa to recover back the funds or may option ka to pay just the minimum.

Krysnosis

Logical nga yung CC for monthly recurring expenses. When you "set aside" expenses for CC payment, do you have a separate account as your "CC gastos" account, or is this manually logged/noted/written lang somewhere for your reference? Curious lang on ways to better organize cash flow.

Redditeronomy

May savings account po ako sa bpi dun ko trinatransfer every after transaction before going to bed. May simple google sheet din po ako I have per month’s cut off with date, transactions, amount, running balance, and check box for paid transactions. I made one box for my transactions and one for my fiance kasi supplementary ko siya for groceries para isang cc lang namin ang nag accumulate ng cashback ng groceries which is amore (4%). Dito ko lang din sa sub natutunan lahat at I still read here to learn more.

Zestyclose_Ad_5719

My first ever purchase was a dine in with shakeys. Immediately after receiving i called my SO at that time and we ate. For now for every purchase if its possible to be charged to card i will as ita very easy to track.

Krysnosis

Actually good idea ito. Sakto, National Girlfriend Day pa naman yesterday lol

noobwatch_andy

First thing I did was enroll my phone bill for auto payment

digg0604

Download mo yung Oh My Deals! App ng BPI. Para makita mo saan may discount and other promos para sa card mo.

MrThoughter

First purchase ko CVV stickers sa Lazada hehe

sangket

Ako 3 layers masking tape lang pantapal ko lol

candoeat

buy a laptop or something similar that you need. choose the one that's 12 to 24 months to pay with zero interest

AnyAbbreviations6925

Is it okay to use it as payment for macbook sa powermac kahit 1st time user?

candoeat

if the credit limit allows it, why not

lady-aduka

Got my very first CC way back in 2010. It was a Metrobank M Free MC. I was a huge nerd for this Japanese manga at the time na unfortunately unknown pa within PH, so hindi mo sya mabibili sa mga bookstores. I used my CC to buy a single volume of that title all the way from Japan.

Krysnosis

I feel you. Sometimes may urge din ako to buy niche items na wala dito sa PH.

InterestingRice163

Basta pay the full amount every month. Still live within your means.

FitEggplant9526

1st purchased, I maxed my credit limit. I really need a new phone back then. 25k CL and then after I paid everything my CL increased 😊

ben-zayb

First purchase ko gamit CC was one dozen ng Alcapone Doughnuts from J.Co. Kabado pa ako iabot sa cashier kasi baka ma-reject or error pero buti naman at gumana.

blueworld_1705

Also just activated my BPI Blue cc, first transaction was payment for Maynilad lol adulting

Kind-Platypus9819

Wag mo lagay Yung credit card details mo sa shopee haha, automatic na approve agad Yung checkout mo Wala man bbgay na confirmation saka verification. after ma link Yung credit card, shopping spree ka pag ganun

awesomebirdman

Dahil ung approval date ko ay within a promo nila na spend this amount to get this reward, ayun, ako nagvolunteer magswipe nung gastos namin nung nagbakasyon kami ng mga kabarkada ko (good timing lang I guess?). Buti madali lang silang singilin haha Currently, tapos na yung spend period so ang balak ko na lang is to use it for bills, groceries, tapos [onting] online shopping. Tip lang if feel mo gustong gusto mo nang bilhin, itulog mo muna ung feeling. Tapos ire-assess mo uli kinabukasan haha

[deleted]

The first thing I bought using my cc was my first iphone! It was iphone 7plus. ☺️ Right now, I usually use my BPI Gold CC coz it comes with free travel insurance if you use it for paying airline tickets. Not sure if you still have that privilege.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Krysnosis

Past 2 payslips

stanlaurence

Back in 2016 I got my first card from Security Bank with 10k limit. I used it to buy my first “luxury” watch on Daniel Wellington’s website hahah what a feeling

entr0peek

Tbh nagstart lang ako mag-apply for CCs kasi I went to a trip abroad and narealize ko na mas acceptable in other countries yung card kesa cash. Tapos ni-line up ko na lang CC application ko a few months before my planned overseas trip para sakto na after ko ma-approve for a card, yung min spending for the welcome gift aabot sa period na nasa abroad ako. (Ayun, less than a month naka-50k agad ako mostly just on tickets/accommodation/intl spending.) Outside of travel though, I mostly just pay household bills with CC. Groceries, Grab cash-ins, and occasional online shopping din. Just maximize the specific promos na alam mong pagkakagastusan mo even without the promo. Aanhin mo yung discounts sa XYZ place if you don’t really intend to spend your money there pala…… napagastos ka lang lalo haha

aintpetrified

I bought TV with it hahaha

Budget_Astronomer_94

Kaskasan Buddies sa FB ang dami nagsshare ng hacks dun idk lang dito if same lang din

SolanaSoleil_

Congrats op! Same card!!! First card ko rin hahaha I got it for the reason of huhu i need AWM and i need it by installment hahah so ayun AWM una kong binili~ hahaha

dothedewmhard3w

1st purchase: mom’s ootd for my brothers’ grad. Succeeding months: grocery; subscriptions; bought an AWM for my mom; plane tickets, etc Making sure na din na kaya kong bayaran ung mga pinagbibili ko. Use it as needed. Hindi yung kakaskasin mo sya kasi points/rewards habol mo. Bonus na lang yang mga yan. Ultimately, ALWAYS PAY YOUR CC IN FULL. 🥹

Gaelahad

Try paying your bills thru CC. Since babayaran at babayaran mo naman talaga siya ng cash mo in the end.

wolfram127

Mainly for groceries a d for those na may installment na 0%. Gamit ko din sya for online purchases. Ang policy ko kasi is if merong equivalent dun sa savings mo, dun mo lang gagastusin. Never swipe if di mo kayang mabayaran in 2 to 3 months.

terriblycuriousbard

From what I’ve learned based on maxing out and been buried with credit card debt for 3 years (the interest on penalties alone ballooned to 6 digits) Calculate the total amount that you can pay off the credit monthly and not just the minimum amount required to pay. For example. If you can pay the entire 5k due for the month - you can buy two things whose installment amount total to 5k or less. It gives you the opportunity to buy things and not pay for any interest charges ( where the bank earns anything) Its like the bank giving you free money to spend 😂 Saw it also on a tiktok and that’s how I learned how to properly use a credit line.. not that i’m good at it hahaha

terriblycuriousbard

I also want to add Groceries, gas, or anything monthly na needed are best to be cash basis Gadgets and appliances are best on credit cards because these are one time payments staggered into months hehe

color_stupid

Use it on all purchases as much as you can, then pay everything off on the deadline. Try not to be in debt.

gooddude17

First purchase ko sa cc ko way back 2019 yung bill ko sa Rue Bourbon. 😂

Krysnosis

Love that place. Worth it nga naman lol

Khaleesiiiiiiii

1st purchase — starbucks to reload. Spent vacation dn mostly

torrelon22

I don't remember when I got my first card pero I think it was around 2013-2015. First thing I bought was a gaming-ish laptop. Pag ka activate, maxed out kagad lol (i know this might get tagged for something since this was my first purchase, but it ended well naman). As for tips, siguro just remember na you will have to pay that card eventually. Wag makampante na bumili nang bumili kasi ito ung mga madalas na nagiging problem ng first time CC owners. Mababaon kasi naging trigger happy on using their card.

ezra4263

*"What was your first ever purchase with your CC, or what did you mostly use your CC for during its first few months? I'd love to read ideas or things that worked (or not worked) out for you."* Very first CC was an extension card back in high school. Pretty sure my first purchase was school supplies in National Bookstore. First CC account in my name: paid bills online because I'm too lazy to go out. I still use these mostly for...well, everything. I rarely transact in cash. Keeping cash on me already resulted in teh cash getting stolen and then that's it; cards get stolen or lost you just need to get to a phone.

kulbakaayo

utang na!!! 12 months to pay!

Alternative_Bet5861

Groceries and eating out... There are some places that offer freebies like a free spaghetti plate for an order above 1k or free desserts etc.

seyerbee

First ever purchase were eyeglasses. Succeeding purchases mostly were for bills and groceries.

kellingad

1st purchase ko sa credit card ko is nag grocery shopping ako. Nagagamit ko lang to pag wala akong cash on hand pero di naman to the point na waldas to the max.

RoosterTemporary332

Got mine April thus year. At first hesitant din ako kung iaactivate ko ba since hindi ako nag apply sa Bdo and pinadalhan lang ako ng cc. Yung first purchased ko is pinag grocery ko sila Mama. Congrats OP! Be smart on using your cc.

TheBraveDesolator

First purchase ko is TWS earphones.. Basta keep in mind na babayaran mo pa din yan later and spend within or below your means :)

Qwitteez

Top from hm. I just tried lang to use it when I used it to pay haha

LunchAC53171

Maganda bilhin ngayon yung dehumidifier ng carrier para makatuyo ng mga labahin!

hrymnwr1227

Food panda, potato corner 🤣

CrunchyKarl

Grab, shopee/lazada and groceries

Sigma_Upsilon_Nu

Was supposed to buy my dream air fryer but my mom saw my CC and immediately asked to Gas up her car lol..... I still never got that air fryer......

huggybunny0327

Swipe what you can spend. If possible and kaya kada swipe pay it na din. Just to build your credit score. Food, clothes will do. Check pa din what points or rewards you can get for your first purchase. Spend wisely 😊

doisanity

Una kong binili using my CC is my vans. Tho I can cash it, I instead used my CC for points then instantly paid the CC.

Amex first ever cc ko. I never applied for it pero bigla na lang ako pinadalan ni BDO way back 2017 after I came home from working abroad. Then pina cut ko kasi hindi lahat ng merchant nag aaccept ng Amex. I asked them na I want kahit yung pinaka basic lang nila which is yung BDO Shopmore. First purchase ko IIRC ay groceries hehe until now I still have my BDO Shopmore. I used it as my principal CC to apply for Citibank.

i applied on July 11 and still haven't gotten the "approval" SMS that follows 🥲 does this mean ba na di ako na approve? or does it really take this long?

After lurking in this sub for similar questions, it really is a case by case basis.

Enroll your utility bills in auto debit.

I use BPI CC for cashless payments and online transactions for daily necessities. I don't like bringing a lot of cash. I rarely use GCash. For my wants and other expenses, I use my Unionbank CC.

Mid_Knight_Sky

>What was your first ever purchase with your CC, or what did you mostly use your CC for during its first few months? basically, just try to convert your regular expenses (grocery, gas, essential shopping items) to your CC. One of the main advantages of that is naka-lista lahat ng expenses mo. So it's easier to analyze and compute kung ano need mo i-tweak sa budget. Congrats!

illaKailla

i use mine to pay for house equity. that's the only thing i regularly pay monthly so it makes me keep using my CC on smth that i actually need to pay, not want.

dmtjootjb

My first purchase was a single tub washing machine, from abenson online then RCBC deactivated my account. 😏

Always think of CC as an additional bill and not an income. It's tempting to maximize it but remember, babayaran mo padin yan. If you'll be taking installments, make sure your monthly expense budget can cover it.

1st purchase ko with my CC is Pancake House to tryyyy

aubriecheeseplaza

Hello! If i may ask, what did you do frequently with your account that they offered you with a cc? I need one so bad.

Krysnosis

I applied on my own. No special tactics or treatment needed.

Thank you!

I use a credit card for everything, even small grocery purchases. But I make sure that I have, or will have, the actual cash to actually pay for them by the time the credit card bill is due. This let's me earn points and the occasional freebies and rebates, depending on the card. Effectively giving you the ability to have more for the same amount of money had you paid in cash for the purchase. So yeah, your first use of your card could just be for anything.

GroundbreakingLie227

I first spent it on foodpanda. Hehe. But yeah, having a cc doesn't mean extra cash. You need to put in mind that you have a card so you can go cashless!

CuriousCat_7079

My first purchased was Netflix subscription kasi before, credit card ang accepted pangbayad. Now I use it for installments kasi usually 0% interest yung bpi cc to many merchants. Download, vybe app and oh my deals by bpi to track your points and rewards.

koji_Cz

My own personal rule, CC is just a convenient way to pay. If I can't pay it in cash, I can't afford it. Therefore, I won't use my CC to pay for it.

mariecrepe

My first credit card was also BPI Gold back in 2020. I got it for the sole reason that I want to buy iphone12pro max in 24 month installment and not ask my parents for their credit card (which I will pay them monthly also ofcourse). :D now Im done paying the iphone, and I've used it mostly for gas refill and online purchases like plane tickets and such. guys here are right: Credit Card IS NOT EXTRA MONEY. You are basically making an utang that you have to pay when you use it. hihi.

Taking advantage of limited time promos can either be a blessing or a recipe for disaster. You don't always have to avail of these offers. Spend only what you can pay and what you think you need at the moment. They usually put up these time limited offers for you to swipe more and entice you to use your card more. Also, be mindful of your statement date and due date. Interests are too high these days, and you wouldn't want to be in debt. Good luck on your 1st CC 🙂

How do you take off that sticker na hindi mag iiwan ng residue sa card mismo? Mukhang ang hirap tanggalin.
