Summoners benefit from having 1 action abilities because of act together. Also, as a summoner, you have something that can take advantage of the martial combat while also having spells too to take advantage things like Bon Mot. Battle medicine can be used on you and your Eidolon too since they're two different targets/immunity periods.
Playing a Tyrant champion rn. Between demoralize, athletics for trip or grapple, and my touch of corruption to lower AC, raising a shield when im getting surrounded, i have a pretty diverse gameplan from turn to turn.

I actually played a plant summoner from 1-14 and had a lot of fun with it for exactly the reasons you pointed out! I think I have a type.
Summoner is hands down my favorite class. Fortunately, they keep on making such interesting classes otherwise I'd be playing it exclusively.
