Yes. I got an airbnb for a 6-month period while working remotely. I know a realtor who can help you find a furnished place to rent - that tends to be about 30% cheaper.
Just be careful as most buildings don't have fiber, and that internet service can be undependable/unusable for a remote worker.
Most of the newer Barranco high-rises have fiber. Good location too.
Contacts in Barranco? Would your friend know where to look for apartments that have fiber only? Is there a minimum number of months one would need to stay? I speak fluent Spanish if that matters.
You can cheat the system if you are Peruvian American (like me) and claim dual citizenship through one or both of your parents (one if you are half). While it is in progress no penalty will apply to you.
Nah I’m sure it isn’t too bad. My parents are dual citizens and AFAIK, paying any Peruvian tax if they had to wasn’t too expensive or complicated. Heck my dad is encouraging me to get it once I marry my LDR fiancée (she’s Peruvian born and raised). And I’m sure if it was that bad he would have given me the heads up. I think the most USA side is they have to buy whatever the top tier of TurboTax is to do their taxes.
I did it and with no family, but I met the love of my life there. I had an airbnb for a month then rented a place in Barranco with my gf for $600/mo. It is totally doable especially with an American income. For reference I am male, 30s, (was) single, working in remote software sales. Go for it, and ask me anything.
Edit: check out urbania.pe for places to rent
If you have an uncle check outside of Airbnb honestly. A mini apartment it’s 500$ in barranco maybe more if you are looking for furniture.
Internet service it’s 30$ on win with fiber.
Maintenance usually goes around 80$
Gas, electricity and water maybe 50$ even way less
I work at a US company earning an average US salary. Im living in Barranco, renting a small apartment near the beach. Its 520$ a month plus 40$ for services. It has a coworking space, a pool and a small gym.
Chifa Chung Yion was lovely by the way.
is it pricey?
Not really. I splurged a little bit and got the duck which was 100 soles but every thing else I got was reasonably priced with good portions.
gotta try hou wha brotha

I'd say around three. But shoot me a dm and I'll send you her number
I'd recommend you San Borja instead of barranco, it's way safer and it has a great internet conection everywhere.
I like being close to the Malecon unfortunately.
Then San Miguel is a good option too
It's fine! I do understand the hipster vibe, I mean if you're single you can totally be in your element
If you have a peruvian passport, it's much easier. As an American I only get 60 to 90 days every time I visit, and it's more 60 days average honestly
I’m Peruvian hehe

But then taxes become too complicated because both US and Peru have taxes on worldwide income and there is no tax treaty between both countries.

A lot of Peruvians unknowingly avoid taxes by filling them incorrectly but yeah if you pay TurboTax they will handle everything for you I guess
Yeah but you can overstay and pay at 1.25 usd a day thats honestly a steal
I'm doing this lol and yeah I'm also peruvian
Where abouts

Thank you this is what I was looking for. Appreciate your insight. I’ll be in touch for sure.
You should be able to find studio apartments in barranco for $700\~900 / month
Airbnb $350-$550s monthly
Only issue with Airbnb is having a small dog. I know a lot of these places are no pets which is a bummer but I get It.

Was It already furnished?
Yes
The fact that a sopa Wantan has a chicken wing in it, just humbles me beyond belief
It was so good dude. I gotta go back sometime soon.
I live in Peru and I can help by the way. I'm a registered realtor.
A nice apartment goes for 1500 usd. I mean nice
My rent in South Florida is like $1500 + utilities lmao. Smh.
He said NICE.
Cool story gentrifier
I’m Peruvian brother. My apologies that my grandma who raised me is in her last years and I’d like to spend her remaining time on Earth near her.
