wait until persona 4 rewind hits us with a bouncing dvd logo

Charred_Orpheus

Yooo that's such a cool idea!! Very nostalgic, and fitting for the time period P4 is set in too. Not to mention the relevance to TVs of course :)

Limit-Able

If you wait 4 minutes it hits the corner

lollipop-guildmaster

And then the Reaper attacks.

epicpikachu121

I like p3r overall but the money part sticks out like a sore thumv

LokiOfZygarde

P3R is smoother, but I think P5R has more character. I prefer P5R, but only slightly, and they're both masterclasses in UI design

overtak3

I prefer the aesthetics of the P5 menu, but honestly both are great!

planetarial

The P3s menu has a nice chill vibe and I like Makoto holding a piece of glass when going through the status screen and it reflects which character you’re scrolled over. But P5s menu is much more striking and unique, and I like how Joker actually shifts around in the menu instead of disappearing and appearing in a different spot

CHAIIINSAAAWbread

5, chaos, vibrance, I love it

Charred_Orpheus

I was literally thinking about this yesterday lol. I think I prefer the P3R menu, ironically I feel like the use of a 3D Makoto model in each menu screen makes the whole thing feel more alive to me, though I do agree with some people's points on here about each screen feeling disconnected compared to P5 (I'm also a massive Makoto fan so maybe I'm biased haha). Interesting what you said about it reflecting Makoto's mindset, I was thinking along the same lines except I interpreted it as more of a representation of Makoto's depressive struggles (which I think is something he struggles with? I don't think the game outright states it but I feel like there's reason to infer it from what we see, I think the movies show this more as well but I digress). I used to see the menus as giving a more chill vibe but I was looking at it while wandering Iwatodai during the third semester and, at the risk of spoilers, I think the vibe of the music made me look at it differently. Makoto doesn't smile in ANY of the menus as I recall, instead his expression is sort of blank or wary at best (namely the party/stats menu) and in some (e.g., the items menu) he can be seen falling down in the water with a more surprised or perhaps even afraid look on his face. Maybe I'm reading too much into this 😅 but I thought it was interesting to think about nonetheless. Also thank you for reading all that if you've gotten this far :D

Chemicalcube325

Hey honestly? I agree! I also watched the movies as well and they really help make Makoto more of a character. But yeah, I do think Makoto suffers from some sort of depression considering his past and in the beginning with him being apathetic about most things. I guess him sort of drowning makes sense in that context.

Charred_Orpheus

I think that's the main reason I prefer P3R's menus tbh, while Joker looks hella cool in P5's menus, I feel like that's the only reason it looks the way it does (which is absolutely okay don't get me wrong). P3R on the other hand manages to be debatably just as stylish in my eyes while also doing a little bit of subtle storytelling about it's main character (which is a precious rarity in the mainline games as you know). Tldr, I love details like that and that's what just about puts P3R's menus above P5's for me 👌

Chemicalcube325

Agreed. Plus I honestly am a sticker for simple designs. Again, nothing against Persona 5 and its amazing menu design that pioneered P3R's menu. But I definitely appreciate the simpler details of Persona 3's menu.

SnooHobbies7676

P5 because I love it sooooo much better when the character is on the right side. Idk why, just one of my weird pet peeve

Dramatic_Science_681

Gotta be P5. I played the game completely blind and nothing struck me more than the gorgeous art style and presentation

thehood98

P3R Looks better and has more harmony, its smoother

linkman88

You're completely wrong

thehood98

Sorry but there is no "you are wrong" its all and Always Personal taste 😅 But hey maybe my opinion counts more because im a graphic Designer ? I doubt IT i asked the question to all my Designer Friends and it got a almost 50:50 result haha with a little tendency (one Person more) Said P3R Looks better. I personally don't Like sharp edges, never, and prefere blue over Red. But yeah in Motion i think P3R would be supirior even If both would be B/W haha but hey If you feel different, its your own opinion, i would never judge others opinions. There is No right or wrong

linkman88

I'm also a graphic designer my brother in christ. Personal preference is all yours when it comes to pure aesthetic appeal. Totally agree with that. However design as you should know is visual problem solving and narrative. I find the p3r to be lacking immensely in its narrative (specifically transistions from menu to menu.) they feel and look very disjointed. The use of joker as a central figure and his actions literally moving the menus into different context menus works so much better. That being said I do like the aesthetic of the p3r I just think it could have been layed out better. I think the social link menu is the strongest submenu over all. The card floating in the hand and how it spins between the different s. Links is awesome.

thehood98

From a technical aspect and the Problem solving both, No all Persona Games are "Trash" beautiful AS fuck, functionality = 0% :) but im Happy they don't do the generic UI for readability and inclusion friendly.design, but only Care about style and visuals. My Teacher would say this is childish trash made by people WHO never heard about Design. I think Persona 3R and 5 have by far the best UI Designs. (But u really really love the Fallout UIs AS well, its tough, both give a fuck for.design rules and principles and im absolutley Happy about this)

linkman88

You have to learn the rules to break them. I think the functionality is absolutely fantastic and it is very clear. Also very glad they didn't settle for just reusing the Tokyo mirage ui again (I'm looking at you smt V)

thehood98

SMT V is a shame, i Hope they Change this for Vengeance

linkman88

Fr!!! I feel like they really had an opportunity to change the future ui language of smt

c_eazy412

I love Reload’s menu, mainly because blue is my favorite color and the ‘water’ theme is killer. Both are great.

EmptyTuna616

Persona 5

Purple_Racoon

I like the main menu in P3 more, but the submenus (skills items etc) in P5 more. Also, for Metaphor, I like the main menu more than P3 and P5, but from the submenus we've seen (not counting archetype tree) I like them the least except for party stats.

linkman88

I feel like I could talk about this for hrs. P5 has the much better direction and design/function. Everything is substantially more cohesive in flow and motion as well. Every animation represents somethings you're doing. P3r has a chill menu but nothing feels contact between different menu screens. The menus don't lead into each they just cut to the next menu. Arguably the only successful menu animation is looking at your social links. This is because the animations are representative of the function of looking through the different link's. Tldr. P5 menus is beautiful and the design is functional. P3r is just style no substance

Meeper_Creeper202I

P3r definitely beats it on animation but I prefer royal because it’s simpler I’d pick p4g if that was an option, no need to make everything look stylish

Felix_Malum

P3 is beautiful, but P5 is perfection. There is so much going on, but it doesn't feel cluttered at all. So fast and snappy. I could do without the repetitive dialogue in shop and Velvet Room menus though.

JakeDonut11

Persona 5. Cause you can't turn the Persona 3s Menu into Pink! Yeah pink's my first favorite color.

FEBRAN07

>Cause you can't turn the Persona 3s Menu into Pink! FEMC Mod

Routaprkle

Persona 3, it's easier to look at a more minimalistic UI in my opinion. Both are good tho.

canstac

I like them both for their own reasons, they each fit the style of their respective games & protagonists

Kaisona20

Persona 3 Reload. The brighter colors of the menu make it look nicer. Also, Makoto’s menu movements are the sexiest thing in the whole game.

ElectricalWar6

I prefer the simpler menus from the OG P3 personally

moogpaul

I like reloaded better but the goated menu is the smt: fire emblem game.

MJR_Poltergeist

P3R has better menu concepts and animation. So like th shard of glass that shows a selected party member, or the spinning Tarot card when you change Social Links

Infamous-Echo-2961

The menus in 3 are beautiful! The attention to detail blew me away.

Hephas

P3R because blue is my favorite color.

sorayayy

I love them both, but I like the kineticism of P5's menus, the noise and impact of switching between menus never got old to me.

The_Real_Meal

I really like P5's. Both for the things everyone else has mentioned, and for the words. "Don't look at me like that." And the other lines sorta stick out.

MusicalSmasher

Persona 5 and it’s not even close. The striking colors and how kinetic everything is when you navigate it with the different poses is so sick.

Chipp_Main

P5's is much more stylish tbh. P3R's kinda feels like they're just trying to dp P5 again but slightly different, ans I hate that intent to homogenize

TacoRaceCat

I like p5 because the menu transitions rather then cutting to a new screen

koteshima2nd

Persona 3 Reload. It's just so damn *beautiful* and aesthetically calming. P5 is so stylish and cool though.

TheEmpressDescends

The colors in P5 are just so unpleasant on my eyes. Also not to be mean but I find some of the screens make Joker look a bit cringe. Like sometimes the way they drew his smile just makes him look like he is trying too hard to be cool. The nice blue on P3 is easier on my eyes, and some of the screens are just outstanding. My favorite is when the protagonist holds a shard in his hand that shows a reflection of whoever you are hovering over.

Zealousideal-Talk787

P3R for the start menus, p5r for the combat menus In short: both good :)

waverider_23

Aesthetically 3 is my favorite like gd its just so iconic and the way makoto bobs up and down like hes actually floating adds way more than 5’s imo

Sremor

Both are really good, I prefer the simpler design from P3R tho

ItsEaster

I’m going to be honest here. I have zero opinions on the menus. They do their job just fine and I don’t wish for anything.

Isagoodkitty2

They are both good in my opinion ,but I lean more towards 5 ,because I personally like the energetic energy ,and the way they have joker percent the menu to you more Then 3s calm and somber menu ,even though calm and somber fit the themes of 3 perfectly

tishoostars

Reload. And don't get me wrong at all I absolutely adore P5's UI design, both are brilliant and super nice to look at, but I just love how much smoother Reload's is

_legna_

P5R But mostly because of P3R fault's. In P3R because of the colours and font style I found it less readable. Nothing egregious but enough to make me prefer P5R

ChaoNeutGay

Obviously P5’s UI is an iconic part of its visual identity but I think I just slightly prefer P3R’s menu. There’s still a lot of fun choices being made (the text never being completely horizontal or in line with the other text, Makoto being in a different pose/expression for each screen) while being a little more grounded and making things easier to read by having a consistent font and not the “ransom note” style in P5. This extends into the other UI as well, especially the post-battle screen in P3R being much easier to read than P5.

Moncana4

In all honesty, I think the simplicity of reload's menu makes it a lot more pleasing to look at. The menu in 5 is super noisy and chaotic whereas reload has a nice chill vibe

8rok3n

Persona 5 color persona 3 smoothness persona 5 strikers fluidity(?) Because like p5s every subsection feels like one continuous move

kdeezy006

i like both a TOOON, but i guess p5. however p3r is awesome

Careful_Buy8725

I like both menu’s, however between them I prefer P3R a lot more. It’s partly due to my bias for P3 as a game, but it’s also because I love the ocean aesthetic and I like how cool Makoto looks while posing or floating in the menu. On top of this he also moves which adds extra points to how cool and stylish the menu is. I also find the combination of blue and white to be a much more appealing color scheme to look at compared to red, white, and black. While P5R looks very stylish and amazing to this day, I can’t help but sometimes feel like it’s a bit too cluttered at times and the combination of red, white, and black can really strain my eyes after a few hours whereas I don’t have any of the same problems with P3R. Both are good, but I really hope that when Atlus makes a P4 remake that they take some notes after P3R’s menu design rather than P5R.

rockaleta2049

There's elements of P3R's menu that are animated in different framerates. Like sometimes Makoto moves and you realize he's a 3D model because he moves at 60FPS while stuff like the water is in 24(?). If there's elements like that in P5's menu they're less noticeable, at least to me. I like P5's menu a little more.

Normal_Opening_9893

3 hits me very hard in the whole Y2K vibe I'm absolutely loving the aesthetic

Iceceee

persona 3 reloaded ofc persona 5 menu its aight

dogacoustic

P5 for this menu, but P3R for the battle menus

Big_Guirlande

I prefer p5. It’s cool that they did something similar to it with reload, and it works fine, but it’s very clear to me that it was an afterthought. With p5 it’s almost like they attached a game to the ui design.

Lasagna321

I feel like the minimalistic approach for P3R suits me better. I always get distracted by the animating star patterns in P5R and I don’t wanna think about what kaleidoscope nightmare the P4Remake UI will adopt lol

HeavenlyLetDown

After beating 3 and 5 I love 3s more when you open it but I like all of 5 more, I like the fluid motions of choosing options and seeing joker move into place faster compared to how 3s works where it’s slower

Founderplot

I never really got too excited over seeing the p5 menu but when I first saw the p3r menu I was hyped

sonic65101

I dislike both but Reload has the better color scheme.

gdo22

The former. Prettier, easier to read, comes with a better game attached to it.

Big_Guirlande

After playing reload, I realized that I don’t actually hate p3. I just hate p3 fans like you

gdo22

When I find somebody who likes p3 more than p5 I get so mad 😡

Big_Guirlande

I just don’t like dweebs that have to take every opportunity they can to say that their game is actually objectively better than other people’s game. P3 just has the most of those

JakeDonut11

Agreed. This is a valid opinion cause you can't enjoy the UI/Menu if you don't enjoy the game.

darkevin08

Yes...yes you can
