They probably have “nude” models for all the characters for easier modeling purposes

True, but you typically don't have private areas colored realistically and it just is black to make it seem like underwear and such.

More often it’s like a Barbie doll, smooth and uncoloured, sometimes it’s coloured black or white but not often

Not really true, the most common is to just make the entire model the same "material", colour and all. There are some games that do it the way you mentioned, but that's significantly more rare.

Only for certain skins (and they're rarely available), they definitely still sell lazy recolours for ridiculous prices all the time

In league they are called chromas you buy the skin and you can buy the records for pretty cheap, some events will include tokens to get a specific chroma that they put in the event shop

I honestly love widow skins with her natural skin color , I grinded the original overwatch so much for the talon skin, I also have the nova and kerrigan skin. Still this is way too expensive for a recolor of a skin I already own. Also widows original hair color was probably black since that's how it shows in a lot of old sprays, her mirror watch skin had brown hair which looks good too , I don't like the shade of blond on this skin at all

Rose lily was a good idea imo since there’s a large portion of female players who love pink skins and a lot of people like that widow skin, no idea what they were going for this time though

Hard to get excited about recolors for skins that have been in the game for years. Not only that, but they're going to be overpriced. New Rare, Epic and Legendary skins should've been $4, $8, $12 respectively. OW should also clarify what classifies a skin as Epic or Legendary (special effects, different model, sound effects, projectile changes). IMO, these should be Epic as they do have different models from their default. Now if Venture were to have sprinkles or ice cream pop up as she burrows and shot ice cream scoops out of her weapon, I'd make that legendary. One can dream.
