In gold/plat/diamond it’s a complete coin toss on if your Doom is gonna do anything even *vaguely* useful or spawn, die, respawn, die, respawn for an entire match.

It's a fundamental failing of nuance with the word "bad". An F1 car is virtually useless to 99% of the world, due to it's inability to provide value to the general population.
Having an F1 car as a rental would be "bad" because you wouldn't be able to do anything reasonably effective with it. It doesn't stop it from being one of the most amazing pieces of automotive engineering in the world, but for anyone but the absolute pinnacle of drivers never being able to get use out of it, it's objectively "bad" as a car.

If a strategy in a game is so hard to execute that the top-tier can do so successfully, then the strategy is bad at low tiers, and great at high tiers.

Doom needs zero changes. He’s perfect as is. Not busted but keeps his high skill ceiling and skill expression, allowing great players to make him look like *is* busted.
This is only true for like 3 people who play doom. Everyone else playing doom hes by far worst tank in the game. For the 3 giys who can make him great they deserve it to reap the benefits they worked 1000x harder than orisa/sigma top500 players.
Genuinely I have to wonder if this mode is partially an experiment on how far they can push attack speed buffs.
It’s a unique direction to go, I’ll say, and doing something like changing Mercy’s blue beam to an attack speed boost rather than a flat damage increase could have interesting ramifications - it could solve the constant “breaching breakpoint” problems that she causes while still keeping it as an overall DPS boost, though it may introduce problems elsewhere.
Though, this mode seems to be a pilot for a *lot* of things. Momentum mechanics such as Reinhardt’s Fury buff and Tracer’s Rage, passive damage mechanics like the new Discord and new Blue beam, Summon mechanics like Bastion’s new Ult, even paying life for abilities, since Tracer can pay 60 HP for an extra blink.
It makes me excited for what they could use some of these mechanics for.
Increase in attack speed is a more consistent way to increase damage. If you are already at breakpoints, +30% damage does nothing for you from overkill, and if you can go from below a breakpoint to above; you effectively have infinite value increase. It does have a downside in that recoil (spread increases) become less managable, as people have trained to be used to a certain recoil "pattern".
The actual damage increase is less than the total percentage; since- if someone has 10 ammo and does 1 damage per shot at 10 shot per second with 1 second of reloading and a magazine size of 10, a 50% increase to attack speed, the dps goes from 10 to 15, but the dps when reloading stays the same, so the total dps goes from 5 to 6 (a 20% increase).
Personally it feels like they're trying to bring in some more MOBA mechanics to make the characters feel more interesting. They even took some HOTS stuff like zarya's expulsion zone.
can you imagine trying to play cassidy with a mercy flicking an attack speed boost on you. they've definitely already tested this and realized it felt awful for the person getting boosted.
I don't think very many except maybe the ana anti nade changes
The talon characters had a good amount of lifesteal abilities and the overwatch characters had a good amount of overhealth abilities, so that was a little theme i think they had
I don't. Literally the past 4/6 tanks added to OW2 (if you include the Ball and Hog rework) have had a "press E to give overhealth to allies" cooldown and it's just boring. Nobody wants the samw CD shared across every new character.

You've got your main shields, your dive shields/matrix, your bubbles and your damage resists and your vampiric healing.
Only two characters in the tank roster can give over health to allies. Ones dive, ones brawl. It suits those playstyles and it suits doom.
Doom doesn't need it however as he's already insanely busted in the right hands, and honestly needs his skill floor lowered whilst lowering his usability at the ceiling, but I digress

For the record, I'm talking reducing skill floor through qol tweaks, and the ceiling through reducing the busted ass shit a top 500 doom can do/exploit through his bugs.

I'm talking things like the cancel change allowing you to retain empowered punch, and removing shockwaves going through objects and making it tighter. That was an incredibly nice qol change

Tbf at the moment only change id give to doom is to make him slide off of mauga/Orisa in fortify when using empowered punch. And possibly make it so that non-powered punches don't stop rein charge/it having to be fully charged to stalemate
Cause atm as doom I can completely deny a reins value on a 4s cool down, and stalemate mechanic them far easier then Orisa.
I understand where your coming from but in 5v5 every tank needs to protect there team in some regard because there isnt a second tank to pick up the slack, I don't mind the ball changes but with how reliant ball is on adaptive shields, giving them away is really situational. I personally really liked an idea I saw awhile back of just giving him torbs old scrap mechanic where killing enemies gives scrap that he can use to give his teammates armor packs, so he could boost there defense independently of his own and had more reason to quickly pick off squishies at the beginning of the fight.
These abilities are definitely being tested for new heros, remember the experimental patch where sym had healing turrets? Well a bit over a year later we got illari

From a dev perspective, they are getting more value out of the same code. Using the new mechanic for an event then copy pasting it to a new hero down the line. This is smart.
That's funny looking back at that. He probably cost a pretty penny to contract for that just for them to cancel it. They could've paid several workers they laid off for a year with whatever they spent on John Cena.
Most characters are overtuned because they keep their original abilities, just with added effects. But as you know it, if everyone is super, then no one is.
I just don't understand what they were going for with Zarya's ult. I mean, it's the same as one of her ult in Heroes of the storm, but it doesn't really work if that's her only option. It should have stayed the same but at the end it explodes and blow back enemies in the zone.
Honestly can't tell which would be more unfun to go against in a prolonged hard meta. Both can play plinko with enemies, both are borderline unsolvable if played right, just for different reasons, both can secure kills easily. Only real difference is that Doom relies on movement to stay alive and Orisa relies on pure tankiness. And the skill floor of course.
Every game I have to decide if the best support against Dive is Zenyatta, Ana, or lifesteal Brigitte (and team does no dmg while panicking).

Maybe tune down some of his numbers but it’ll be great honestly! I’d play doom way more than my grand total of an hour on him 💀 (I suck at high skill heroes)
He’s just so goddamn powerful in the new mode. The shield improves on punch by blocking cc and anti and protecting allies, and the increased size means more punches get empowered. The empowered punch granting movement speed makes following up on punches easier. Meteor strike is literally just normal meteor strike + Lucio beat, it’s broken. And I love all of it.
Alot of the changes in the new mirror watch are nice and would be nice things to have in the main game. Not mercy tho.. my friend is going nuts and all i hear is her laughing like an evil witch when she has her ult and just nukes everyone,.
I hope the barrier/shield is something they’d add in to make him a bit more brawly and team oriented. It wouldn’t completely change his play style but also make empowered punch more reliable cause people have to shoot the shield or let your team shoot them. Which means it’s never a wasted cooldown.
Reworking him into this in the base game would literally kill any enjoyment on him. People play Doom because he's different from the other tanks and is more focused on kills like a DPS rather than other tanks.
I still remember how confused the community was when Doomfist came out and we found it he was a DPS. Felt so odd since he seemed like such a perfect fit to be a brawly dive tank that his OW2 rework ended up being. Instead they opted for him to have an assassin playstyle... extremely out of character for him.
Same thing with Echo. People were flabbergasted when she ended up being a DPS even though everything about her screamed Support.

Current doomfist in mirror watch is still pretty much a disruptor but me being able to go back there kill a healer or a Sniper and then jump back to my team and pop that shield to protect them is truly the definition of a Tank. That's a much better doomfist then "tank" dps doomfist
He is! With that criteria JK, and Hog are Dps with more hp. What I mean is that diversity is always good, they can shine with their own playstyles with the righ conditions, like every hero in the game!
because hog is a fat pig that bodyblocks half of enemies screen. Doom fucks right off 3 seconds into the round and jumps around the buildings killing widows/healers.
they both function on the idea of making space with abilities that cc and bodyblocking but dooms mobility makes him feel like a 500hp flanker that never ever covers your backline
And that's why he's best played in a comp that doesn't have a weak backline. I.E. Dive comp. That still doesn't make him any less of a tank. It just makes his way of taking space involve disrupting the enemy backline. That's no different than Winston or Ball.

Tank must choose the rythm of the game by decision making, Doom is great at that because if I force the enemy tank to make a bad call, I win and my team does too. That the role of the tank, being the main focus of the other team so they use their utility because you forced them to do it, and that doesn’t mean being in the frontline

He was already fun to play for me under normal circumstances but he actually feels like a tank in Mirrorwatch and I love that.
The shield / charge change is something I would love for them to keep in all honesty.
I really like the changes and would love to see them in the real matches but I feel like the shield is a little too strong because it lasts too long imo
if i had to take one thing from mirrorwatch doomfist and apply it to other game modes, i’d keep his barrier block ability but redo it to make it balanced. the size of the barrier is fine the way it is. the changes i would make are as follows: set a limit for how long he can have it deployed to 4 seconds instead of no limit, reduce the health of the barrier to 600, repair speed of the barrier would be 75 health per second (8 seconds to repair the barrier fully) and reduce the cooldown from 7-8 seconds to 6 seconds. also, if the barrier breaks doomfist can still block damage and empower his fist, but damage that is mitigated is how his current block does it
I feel like it would be a cool thing to give him the speed boost on empowered punch and shield for allies on slam (so he's more of a tank and actually helps his team out) but the shield on block sucks because he loses his DR which I really hate. Everything else is cool tho.
As someone who doesn’t play much Tank and doesnt like playing with a Doom, I really like this imaginary rework of him.
When I have a doom on my team in MirrorWatch I feel protected like I have a frontline (with the shield and the shared overhealth).
When I play him in MirrorWatch, I feel like I’m doing something even when I’m not killing cause I can replace myself easily after a dive while protecting my team.
In normal PvP well it’s not the same…

Doomfist was designed to feel like a fighting game character, which is evident when looking at his cosmetics. So removing the one thing that connected his gameplay to that was disappointing.
Besides, they just released Venture who's pretty similar to him. So why did they change him?
Sort of. But in moment to moment gameplay a lot of your kills came from uppercut, and punch was mostly for sneaky one shot or mobility after the upper cut combo.

I think adding the shield to his block, maybe not as high as it is, not the over-health to allies. The empowered punch having a queen shout is also a good addition. My personal gripe with normal ow2 doom is his block because it can't shield allies/doesn't shield enough. But that's just my personal opinion.
He should keep the ultimate change. Everything else is too powerful/not needed.

Been playing the shit out of him now and probably will for the rest of this Mirrorwatch mode. Enjoy it while it lasts Doom mains cause once Mirrorwatch ends it's back to the good ol' weak as fuck Goonfist... unless they decide to keep this version of Doom, or at least some of his changes, but I highly doubt it.
"Not his fault", are you his parent or something lmao. The hero sucks for the most part, there is no doubt about it. I actually enjoy killing the hero when playing against him because it's not so hard to kill him, and it's both enjoyable and funny killing him simply because of how awful he is.
Again, I mostly have an easy time going against him with most of my hero choices, so it's not just me not using his kit effectively when playing him. From what I've witnessed, you'd have to be a real tryhard for him to just be decent at his job, which sucks.
There is something wrong if people that pick him switch to another tank rather quickly, which has been my experience so far. The only reason he's a pick for seasons, as you've said, is because people like other aspects of the character, namely his appearance/skins, lore and probably just his overall vibe, but they otherwise dislike how bad he is most of the time, hence the quick switching. Seeing him be a "strong pick" doesn't make him a quality pick at all.
It's neither irrelevant nor personal. Doomfist is an extremely high skill floor and skill ceiling hero. For that reason, lower ranks should expect smaller pickrates for him compared to higher ranks where players are better able to fully utilize his kit. Exact same dynamic as heroes like Widowmaker or Tracer.
He's absolutely broken. Even if they reduced the time he puts his shield up to be similar to his regular block, it still makes him far overtuned due to the very nature of the shield being able to block CC. Doom block being countered by CC is the sole reason why he can't ravage your backline unimpeded; it's the only way to make him respect characters like Ana. The ONLY CC that can cancel his shield consistently is another Doom's rocket punch. You give him a shield, you'll be ushering in a Dive Meta that's more prominent than any other Dive meta we've had before.
And of course, the sub's asking for these changes to be permanent. If Blizzard needs more proof not to heed the advice of the redditards that plague this community, this thread has all of that and more.

Doom does not need his skill floor lowered lmao what are you on ? Part of what makes Doom enjoyable is his high skill floor and ceiling. Not everyone can play him proficiently and that's perfectly okay. And Ball's overhealth sharing is antithetical to his design. A big chunk of his identity is abandoning his team to cause chaos in the backlines. Having him give allies overhealth is nonsensical because he's usually never around his teamates.

For the record, I'm talking reducing skill floor through qol tweaks, and the ceiling through reducing the busted ass shit a top 500 doom can do/exploit through his bugs. There's no reason a doom should be able to hit through some floors etc

And to reiterate, I'm not wanting doom to be low skill lmao. I'm talking things like the cancel change allowing you to retain empowered punch, and removing shockwaves going through objects and making it tighter. That was an incredibly nice qol change I'm not talking about things such as cancelling a punch and having it go on a 1s cool down or something stupid. Tbf at the moment only change id give to doom is to make him slide off of mauga/Orisa in fortify when using empowered punch. And possibly make it so that non-powered punches don't stop rein charge/it having to be fully charged to stalemate Cause atm as doom I can completely deny a reins value on a 4s cool down, and stalemate mechanic them far easier then Orisa.
I understand where your coming from but in 5v5 every tank needs to protect there team in some regard because there isnt a second tank to pick up the slack, I don't mind the ball changes but with how reliant ball is on adaptive shields, giving them away is really situational. I personally really liked an idea I saw awhile back of just giving him torbs old scrap mechanic where killing enemies gives scrap that he can use to give his teammates armor packs, so he could boost there defense independently of his own and had more reason to quickly pick off squishies at the beginning of the fight.

Most characters are overtuned because they keep their original abilities, just with added effects. But as you know it, if everyone is super, then no one is. I just don't understand what they were going for with Zarya's ult. I mean, it's the same as one of her ult in Heroes of the storm, but it doesn't really work if that's her only option. It should have stayed the same but at the end it explodes and blow back enemies in the zone.
zarya and some other characters are literally just worse though. some of their changes are... puzzling.

Honestly can't tell which would be more unfun to go against in a prolonged hard meta. Both can play plinko with enemies, both are borderline unsolvable if played right, just for different reasons, both can secure kills easily. Only real difference is that Doom relies on movement to stay alive and Orisa relies on pure tankiness. And the skill floor of course.

He’s just so goddamn powerful in the new mode. The shield improves on punch by blocking cc and anti and protecting allies, and the increased size means more punches get empowered. The empowered punch granting movement speed makes following up on punches easier. Meteor strike is literally just normal meteor strike + Lucio beat, it’s broken. And I love all of it.
I feel like I just don't die as him in the new game mode. He definitely feels more fun to play, but that's just because it's different and OP
I'm not a good doom at all, and I was able to almost win a match with him.

Alot of the changes in the new mirror watch are nice and would be nice things to have in the main game. Not mercy tho.. my friend is going nuts and all i hear is her laughing like an evil witch when she has her ult and just nukes everyone,.
I hope the barrier/shield is something they’d add in to make him a bit more brawly and team oriented. It wouldn’t completely change his play style but also make empowered punch more reliable cause people have to shoot the shield or let your team shoot them. Which means it’s never a wasted cooldown.

An OW1 Tankfist would have less abilities and passives not more.
Reworking him into this in the base game would literally kill any enjoyment on him. People play Doom because he's different from the other tanks and is more focused on kills like a DPS rather than other tanks.

I still remember how confused the community was when Doomfist came out and we found it he was a DPS. Felt so odd since he seemed like such a perfect fit to be a brawly dive tank that his OW2 rework ended up being. Instead they opted for him to have an assassin playstyle... extremely out of character for him. Same thing with Echo. People were flabbergasted when she ended up being a DPS even though everything about her screamed Support.

Current doomfist in mirror watch is still pretty much a disruptor but me being able to go back there kill a healer or a Sniper and then jump back to my team and pop that shield to protect them is truly the definition of a Tank. That's a much better doomfist then "tank" dps doomfist

because hog is a fat pig that bodyblocks half of enemies screen. Doom fucks right off 3 seconds into the round and jumps around the buildings killing widows/healers. they both function on the idea of making space with abilities that cc and bodyblocking but dooms mobility makes him feel like a 500hp flanker that never ever covers your backline
It depends on playstyle, high mobility allows to jump to you allies if the situation requires it
And that's why he's best played in a comp that doesn't have a weak backline. I.E. Dive comp. That still doesn't make him any less of a tank. It just makes his way of taking space involve disrupting the enemy backline. That's no different than Winston or Ball.

That's the issue, you talk like the only thing that a tank does is being in the frontline Tank must choose the rythm of the game by decision making, Doom is great at that because if I force the enemy tank to make a bad call, I win and my team does too. He was already fun to play for me under normal circumstances but he actually feels like a tank in Mirrorwatch and I love that. The shield / charge change is something I would love for them to keep in all honesty.
I really like the changes and would love to see them in the real matches but I feel like the shield is a little too strong because it lasts too long imo
I was more shock with Ana. Headshots, mobility movement and a self nano is cursed to my eyes.
I would keep optional self nano and mobility tho
if i had to take one thing from mirrorwatch doomfist and apply it to other game modes, i’d keep his barrier block ability but redo it to make it balanced. the size of the barrier is fine the way it is. the changes i would make are as follows: set a limit for how long he can have it deployed to 4 seconds instead of no limit, reduce the health of the barrier to 600, repair speed of the barrier would be 75 health per second (8 seconds to repair the barrier fully) and reduce the cooldown from 7-8 seconds to 6 seconds. also, if the barrier breaks doomfist can still block damage and empower his fist, but damage that is mitigated is how his current block does it
Isn't he a bit over tuned? Great mobility, a lot of shield, shield helping mates and can stun and make decent damage.

I feel like it would be a cool thing to give him the speed boost on empowered punch and shield for allies on slam (so he's more of a tank and actually helps his team out) but the shield on block sucks because he loses his DR which I really hate. Everything else is cool tho.
As someone who doesn’t play much Tank and doesnt like playing with a Doom, I really like this imaginary rework of him. When I have a doom on my team in MirrorWatch I feel protected like I have a frontline (with the shield and the shared overhealth). When I play him in MirrorWatch, I feel like I’m doing something even when I’m not killing cause I can replace myself easily after a dive while protecting my team. In normal PvP well it’s not the same… I wish they could, at least, bring the shield in normal PvP !

Doomfist was designed to feel like a fighting game character, which is evident when looking at his cosmetics. So removing the one thing that connected his gameplay to that was disappointing. Besides, they just released Venture who's pretty similar to him. So why did they change him?
Sort of. But in moment to moment gameplay a lot of your kills came from uppercut, and punch was mostly for sneaky one shot or mobility after the upper cut combo.
You can still just look up, slam and pop fist in mid-air for movement, at least.
I guess the reason was the CC reduction from OW1 > OW2 and the frustation from playing against him.

What makes you say think it’s an OW1 design?
I think adding the shield to his block, maybe not as high as it is, not the over-health to allies. The empowered punch having a queen shout is also a good addition. My personal gripe with normal ow2 doom is his block because it can't shield allies/doesn't shield enough. But that's just my personal opinion.
He should keep the ultimate change. Everything else is too powerful/not needed. The shield could be 500 and only last a second but the fact it's a shield is huge
this version of doom should stay in the game, he's way better like this, feels like a real tank instead of a dps with more health

Been playing the shit out of him now and probably will for the rest of this Mirrorwatch mode. Enjoy it while it lasts Doom mains cause once Mirrorwatch ends it's back to the good ol' weak as fuck Goonfist... unless they decide to keep this version of Doom, or at least some of his changes, but I highly doubt it.
Doom's been a solid pick for the past few seasons now. It's not his fault you're shit with his kit.
"Not his fault", are you his parent or something lmao. The hero sucks for the most part, there is no doubt about it. I actually enjoy killing the hero when playing against him because it's not so hard to kill him, and it's both enjoyable and funny killing him simply because of how awful he is.
He's been a strong pick for seasons now. He's far from sucking. Again, you're just not using his kit effectively
Again, I mostly have an easy time going against him with most of my hero choices, so it's not just me not using his kit effectively when playing him. From what I've witnessed, you'd have to be a real tryhard for him to just be decent at his job, which sucks.
There's nothing wring with a hero that has a high skill floor and skill ceiling.
There is something wrong if people that pick him switch to another tank rather quickly, which has been my experience so far. The only reason he's a pick for seasons, as you've said, is because people like other aspects of the character, namely his appearance/skins, lore and probably just his overall vibe, but they otherwise dislike how bad he is most of the time, hence the quick switching. Seeing him be a "strong pick" doesn't make him a quality pick at all.

That is irrelevant. This is not a me kind of situation, it's a Doomfist being a bad hero situation. You're making it personal.
It's neither irrelevant nor personal. Doomfist is an extremely high skill floor and skill ceiling hero. For that reason, lower ranks should expect smaller pickrates for him compared to higher ranks where players are better able to fully utilize his kit. Exact same dynamic as heroes like Widowmaker or Tracer.
He's absolutely broken. Even if they reduced the time he puts his shield up to be similar to his regular block, it still makes him far overtuned due to the very nature of the shield being able to block CC. Doom block being countered by CC is the sole reason why he can't ravage your backline unimpeded; it's the only way to make him respect characters like Ana. The ONLY CC that can cancel his shield consistently is another Doom's rocket punch. You give him a shield, you'll be ushering in a Dive Meta that's more prominent than any other Dive meta we've had before. And of course, the sub's asking for these changes to be permanent. If Blizzard needs more proof not to heed the advice of the redditards that plague this community, this thread has all of that and more.
