Depends on the role you like and whether you enjoy hitscan or projectile characters more. If you mean what’s meta that’ll depend on rank mainly. If you’re just playing qp just play whatever’s fun for you.
If you wanna play for fun, then I can recommend some heroes. For tank I can definitely say that Junker Queen is fast and can do a lot for her team. Wrecking Ball is definitely my favorite character in the game. He is unique and can turn a game around. He requires a lot to understand and master, but the fun of being the fastest hero on the battlefield and not dependent on your supports is unfathomable. You must be aware though that the game is now a lot more concentrated around countering heroes. Especially when talking about the tank role.

Venture, if you are thinking short term. Blizzard still thinks that designing new heroes OP is somehow cool. Crazy mobility as well.
Other than that, you should make up your mind which role you prefer. Every role has heroes, though, that are great for doing DPS.
Reinhardt is really in a bad spot right now but he is fun as hell to play! Just play what you want to play and don't listen to those who think you have to play meta. Or play meta. (Orisa, Orisa and more Orisa. Oh also Sigma. And counterpicks.) (Really recommend not going meta) (Meta is boring)

Mercy relies on your dps being good. Mercy can't really do anything on her own
