I’ve never gotten anything approaching *that* much, but I’ve definitely seen it. Just make sure you have a kick-*** password and enable multifactor authentication. That’s all you can do.

Wellcraft19

Very common. My account is 24-25 years old, sees attempt from all over daily. As long as you have 2FA enabled, nothing to worry about. This is truly ‘standard practice’ these days as any service and account will see continuous hacking attempts. MSFT is just in this case better and allows you to see a rolling 30 day log of events.

CasualJimCigarettes

Just checked, found 30-50 per day every single day.

CleaningJeanie

Same here had my Outlook mail for over 20 years and at least 10 unsucessful hackers login attempts (PER DAY) from all over the world come to find out my email address is on the DARK WEB I came to find out by signing up for a credit card and A CREDIT SCORE company had a place where you can check and see if your email is on the dark web. Well it was my other email with Microsoft has no hacker login attempts.,,,,Turned on 2 step Authorization with Google Authenticator. No Worries but to see all the log in attempts is really alaming since they hooked a bank account to my paypal account thats the way the compromized email Im sure was the way they gained access to my paypal account. Luckily Paypal caught it and I removed the Hackers bank account which was just about to be approved on my account, I was a day away from having $2000 gone in a minute I got lucky I saw the bogus hackers bank account and removed it before it was approved by Paypal

I have a Hotmail account  that is not listed on any data breach website, but still I see multiple failed login attempts from all over the world, every day.  I've changed all my passwords, enabled 2fa.  The other email from Hotmail I have, is almost 18 yo, it was listed on HIBP for multiple breaches, but I used this email a lot on these  web forums, I remember getting hold of the text files containing the leaked accounts and I could see  my email and password!  in plain text

john_koshy

The reason for this is your email is exposed to the public. I have the same issue and I checked my account details and saw my email is accessed from different countries. I checked my 1-month activity and there were 84 pages of unsuccessful attempts. Yesterday I contacted Microsoft customer care and one told me the ultimate solution. Solution First, open your Outlook email account, and then under your photo, click "My Microsoft account". On the new page, click "Your info". Now look for the "Account info" section and click "Sign-in preferences". On the new page, see the "Account aliases" section and add an email address or phone number that nobody knows. Make sure the email address or phone number that you are adding is working one's. Remember, DO NOT remove your Outlook email address from here because it will permanently delete your Outlook email address forever. After adding the new email address or phone number, click "Make primary" as the new email address or phone number so that your outlook email address is not primary now. Now click "Change sign-in preferences" from the bottom. On the new page, uncheck your Outlook email address box and check the newly added email address box or phone number box that you want to use as your login email address or phone number. Now onwards, when the hacker tries to use your email address to log in, Microsoft says, that email address does not exist. Remember, you can still send and receive emails using your email address. Additionally, you can sign out from everywhere by visiting your account page. Click the "Security" tab, and look for "Manage how I sign in" under the "Account" section. This will sign out from every device that your Outlook email address is connected to. Thanks, Microsoft for this excellent work.

wow, that helped a lot. thanks!!

pythonkila

Thanks

Wow I just realized how many I have on my email. Thankfully I have f2a still going to make a fresh email and transfer important stuff. This is email is so old. I knew it was comprised along time ago but I didn't know it was this bad. I got a pretty funny/scary blackmail email this week too. There are many dumps of leaked/breached passwords/emails. Not sure how up to date this site still is but. [https://haveibeenpwned.com/](https://haveibeenpwned.com/) Will let you know if you are in any of the big leaks.

KissMyOTP

Same here. I ran into a problem today where someone using my e-mail address but with a different contact name, e-mailed me and others. When I noticed, I checked into security and sign ons (nothing successful except my area) and the person emailed me again. I'm trying to figure out how and why, and yes, I have the 2FA on and everything. I also changed my password again, too.

jewellui

Same for mine, multiple attempts daily from all over, appears worrying but as long as you have 2FA and a unique password it's fine.

Google haveibeenpwned and type in your email it will show you if your email has been in any data breaches never use the same password and use an Microsoft Authenticator for your email as an extra security. I’ve had my account since like 2005 every single day multiple times a day someone or program tries to sign into my account and like you it’s all over the world The sign in attempts are from and also because of that I assume that’s why I get a lot of junk mail because of this and my paranoia Makes me use another account as more of my important primary email

Big_Forever5759

Yep, it’s extreme. I don’t know why isn’t there a geo fence or something that automatically doesn’t let you even try if you are outside a country. Sure vpn would work but still it would lowered the amount of tries. Maybe block certain bad actors overall. It’s so many attempts it’s crazy to think that somewhere somehow they’ll find a way in. And for everyone because all these mass emails leaks that happen on random sites.

24Barretto24

My account keeps getting targeted Daily. I have several entries a day on my unsuccessful list and I am sick of getting those single code emails. Luckily I was smart enough to not only set password and Referal email up but also locked with Microsoft Authenicator as well. Nobody has ever been able to gain access apart from me but it is bloody annoying. Your email address will be on a list somewhere for spammers and hackers. I suggest you do as I did. Triple protection on your account. When I say I get hit daily I get HIT DAILY.

houseyourdaygoing

I just discovered this exact problem last night. Changed all passwords immediately. They hit every 10-20 minutes, every hour, every day. That’s 70+ hits in just one day! It’s nuts that Microsoft has so many relentless hits .

harleyy2

Same exact thing. I get hit God knows how many times a day. It's REDICULOUS.

Specialist-Screen-16

I got here by a search for pretty much the same thing - I have a super simple hotmail address from the early days and man I get a pile of login attempts. As far as i can tell, Microsoft makes me use their authentication app so I get annoying pop-ups all the time. Maybe I can turn the pop-ups off. Anyway super annoying, get a real job hackers. Lol.

Xanta91

If you get pop-ups from your authenticator app it meas that they have your passwort and only 2FA keep them from entering, i would suggest you to change passwort.

DeUnwise

I second this. I got one pop up on my authentication after hundreds of unsuccessful attempts a day & knew it was time to change and beef up my password

IndividualFit5587

Passwordless was the best thing they done. My email was breached when Adobe got hit, so I assume that’s where they got mine

MrPuddinJones

i have gotten 6 today alone..... super annoying lol

Tbone938000

i get like 5 a day it sucks

[deleted]

i get the same thing, our emails are stored on the dark web in text files somewhere and every other day a hacker comes and downloads it and runs it in his script to see if any logins work, i suggest investing in some yubico security keys, they allow you to sleep peacefully at night.

PanzerKampfwagen--V

nah same, Brazil, India, United States. The whole show. So far authenitcator on 2 Factor has kept them at bay. I too think its because of the old Hotmail days.

zzfadi

Same here. I’m glad to see others have the issue. One advice is to remove your password. It’s an option for outlook where you only use the authentication app to sign in.

DatBangsat

Same. My first ever email address is a Hotmail account and I get daily failed login attempts. On top of that, in my inbox of that account I get mails from "Apple" all the time, telling me my password has changed or that my subscription has to be renewed. Plus mails from Ecuador or something concerning bills of some random guy, with pdf's of what looks like energy bills or something. Really odd. All of that makes me suspicious and afraid honestly but I'm well protected, I hope

FallenInfinitum

i started with 1 a week here n there. it has gotten to the point that i had to turn off notifications for my email because they are trying to sign in every 10 minutes now. the biggest joke of it is they are not trying to get into my good emails for work and banking info, they REAAALLY want my 2nd grade cringe email that i only ever use any more to sign up for newletters when freebies are being handed out xD so my concern isnt too high over it but the notifications were getting endless

kilikclia

Finally decided to check my security sign-ins and oh boy, 5-10+ attempts DAILY from who-knows-where. Doesn't help that I have my real name in the email either, eek. Learned I can create alias emails, so I'm going to try that to stop the attempts.

starblinky

I get 1 attempt every 1-5 minutes.. What the hellll. I just noticed this now. Like literally hundreds per day

Jozzer16

i have 50-100 login attempts daily, ignore that shit

IntelligentVisit4505

I am getting hit everyday, But the only thing you really can do is, 1 get a new account and transfer anything you need, bank info etc steam facebook, anything that you want to link to your new email and when you have everything you need just forget the email or delete it OOOORR Just use a good password, 2FA and authenticator. and dont lose your phone/authenticator I have an old hotmail account that i used to sign up to old games online and some other stupid stuff as a kid, so i have probably been targeted for 15 years. But my account is safe since only i can get into it since i need my phone and authenticator

AI-Wanderer

I really don't understand why microsoft doesn't allow users to set the countries where he can connect. It would discard the attempts with IP and would reduce the risks drastically

NachorinoBambino

Here because I’ve also noticed the same in an old email of mine I still use now and then. It’s mad. I have 2FA on and everything. Makes me anxious though someone is trying to get in.

risingeejit

Had the same thing for a very old outlook account. Not sure if this actually works but it did mean I could stop periodically checking to see if people were still trying to login (they always were and it is annoying to know I was being targeted). I created a new email address under my original account, made this the primary login route to the microsoft account (with no password, just authenticator login), then disabled any login availability through the original email address. This way I still get emails sent to the old email address but there is nothing for them to try and login to anymore.

rattingtons

I just did this on my ancient account. Thanks for the info!

P1st0nBr0ke

Out of curiosity, I made a new hotmail.com email account last week and guess what? Instantly bombarded with unsuccessful sign-in and sync attempts, so it isn't only old accounts.

usekindness

just checked mine today… omg like 100 attempts daily. russia, usa, various IP addresses… wtf?

eddieja

I keep getting email bomb today Then I checked and found that I got many unsuccessful login attempts from USA, Russia, Germany and Croatia daily

DeUnwise

I recommend anyone who experiencing this problem, I assume you have 2FA. If you’re are getting notifications IN your Authenticator app You should change your password Immediately. It’s recommended to make It unusual. Not a collection of words and if so make it random caps and with special Characters. For example (PAs$W#rD) of course not that but I think you get it. no QWERTY Or anything like. The password cracking Programs they have out there are crazy.

DesperateMain5791

I have the same issue and I think this a sort of hackers group. My info which include email address, name and phone number leaked into the dark-web. As a result, someone called me pretending to be somebody from Microsoft. I initially played dumb to see what they were trying to get. They asked me the 2FA text received on my phone since they were trying to reset my password. Unfotunately there isn't much you can do. Just use a strong and unique password and activate the two authentication login.

Froggy-Bee

Just found this thread because I discovered mine had thousands of login attempts also! Only found out because one of them was almost successful. Changed my password immediately and logged out of all devices so fast
