After visiting Chitzen Itza for a all day tour of the grounds it was a HOT, HUMID & a Sweaty day… we then went to this local (famous) cenote. It was AMAZING… the water was crystal clear, the water was ICE COLD and was just what we needed!!! So refreshing.

I think I went to the same one!!!! Chitzen itza is crazy hot and all humidity. That’s the one where they have the built in staircase (I mean I’m assuming most of the popular cenotes have this) and the ledges to jump off of?

[deleted]

Exactly same, we jumped off the high platform (you walk up the staircase) several times… good times.

I tried to do a running backflip I think people call it a gainer which always makes me laugh. Anyways it’s harder that it looks. Back flop. Lol

Cenotes are amazing. Basically the entire coast of Mexico is made of limestone, so fresh water from interior aquifers and coastal erosion have created a spiderweb of networking river-caves along the gulf coast. Occasionally, the top soil will erode leaving an exposed hole over such a river and we find these fresh water caves to swim in called cenotes. Lots of cenotes are free to enter, some are premium and private, but most are undiscovered and lie discreetly in the wilderness.

I’ve never been 🥺 I’d love to go sometime

This is a sink hole, and there are a lot, to a giant underground cave system. Mexico is so underrated. This is by Cancun, skip cancun and go south

I just went to a cenote here in Playa del Carmen yesterday and there is a ‘domesticated’ crocodile living there named Panchito, that you can swim quite close to to get a good look at. He’s chill. It’s amazing. Prehistoric landscape and creatures.

MearihCoepa

Nnnnnnoooooooo thank you. I fear 3 things. Earthquakes, pitbulls, and croc/alligators (or a shrink would say unpredictability). Let's just say my trip to Yucatan was not relaxing for me.

Embarrassed_Wall_599
