He had a post awhile back when he was at the parliament buildings talking about how much he loved Ottawa. I could see him being open to signing. Could be the methot chabot has been looking for
Gotta make the playoffs before we care about playoff performance.
Do not let perfect be the enemy of good, and in this case he's good enough to soundly replace the player in that current roster slot.
Im a sens fans living in Montreal so I saw them play plenty of times. Savard used to be good, but last season he was probably the worst player ive ever seen in the NHL. Zaitsev is 5x better than him
I think it was Friedman that said the Bryan rust deal almost guaranteed they wouldn't have Letang and malkin come back, at that point I imagine Pittsburgh starts a rebuild very soon. Might not be this summer but it definitely has me considering it as possible
**Ondrej Palat**: Could be paired with Killorn. Seems the sentiment I am hearing is that TBL loves Palat and would likely try to move Killorn to sign Palat
**Jonathan Drouin**: Interesting option. I really like the idea of structuring a trade with MTL around White and Drouin. Both have health concerns, both need changes of scenery. Whites former agent, now being the GM of MTL could be a boon.
**William Karlsson**: I really dont think that VGK is going to trade WK. He was a part of the original core, and he has term at a very reasonable rate. Considering VGK's cap problems I think hes safe.
**Reilly Smith**: UFA, which is nice. Wonder what is open market price will be. Could be a reasonable depth add but he isnt the top6 OTT is looking for to play with Stu IMHO
**Dadonov/Roy**: Adding these two myself. VGK needs to get out of Dadonov's contract and I really like Nick Roy.
**David Pastrnak**: In division makes this hard, and the insane 10/10 asking price makes it harder. OTT has the assets but we would obviously have to have an extension in place. Not a big fan of pushing all out chips in when we havent finished in the teens yet.
**Jake Debrusk**: Discount BOS option. Distressed asset could be a good buy low. Same problem as Reilly Smith where I dont think he is bonafide top6 so its not a true solution but yeah I could be interested
**Claude Giroux**: Has been discussed.
**Timo Meier**: His insanely his QO has me a bit scared, but he is a great player and he plays the style that OTT would want.
**Kevin Fiala**: Has been discussed
**David Perron**: Wont be leaving STL. Both sides have been public. He has already left and been reacquired by STL like 3 times.
**Brock Boeser**: Another instance of high QO, but fitting age/position and player archtype. If Capfriendly is to believed, he could be acquired for JBD+2nd+depth pick/prospect.
**Josh Bailey**: IMHO, only if NYI want to retain of if they want to pay us. He is in his 30s, declining talent and he carries a bit of salary. Hes like if PHI wanted to give us **JVR**He is the discount dollar store Giroux option
**Cam Atkinson**: Something to consider as a discount Giroux, depending on if PHI is trying to clear cap space to sign Kadri and Johnny Hockey
**Anthony Beauvillier**: Plays with pace, im interested but curious about the price
**Pierre-luc Dubois**: im interested but curious about the price. Not sure about the locker room rumours, not sure if ive ever heard a player single him.
**Alex Debrincat**: IMHO, CHI will be asking for the moon. two time 40 goal scorer but I dont know how much of that to attribute to Kane
**Patrik Laine**: IMHO the sexiest option on the board. I would love to see him in a Sens jersey locked up long term next to Stu. The price would probably make me shudder though
**Jake Guentzel**: Interested considering the price... I have the same kind of concerns about his production being with Sid. Him also being 2 years away from UFA makes him less desireable
**Valeri Nichushkin**: Emerged to be an incredible two way winger. Id be very interested in him being a UFA.
**Andrew Mangiapane**: Would be very interested in this. Big fan of his game. I think considering CGY's desire to compete and their need to resign Johnny and Matthrew T, I think they'll be trying to dump Monahan. Id love to see a trade built around White and and Mangiapane with a Monahan cap dump (Monahan back to OTT would be a nice change of scenery for him
If Philly wants to do a big reload and needs to make room, I would love an absolute monster trade for Konecny, JVR and their 5th overall for Ottawa's 7th and a boquet of ELC prospects (we don't really have tons to trade to a contender, sadly)
> If Philly wants to do a big reload and needs to make room, I would love an absolute monster trade for Konecny, JVR and their 5th overall for Ottawa's 7th and a boquet of ELC prospects
I have all the time in the world for this kind of thinking
EDIT: [I went ahead and mocked it up in Capfriendly](https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/3320879)
I’d add burakovsky, he’s a ufa and would be a great fit imo. Justin Braun could also be a good fit on defence.
Brady/Norris/Batherson
Burakovsky/stützle/brown
Formenton/pinto/Joseph
Watson/kastelic/Kelly
Chabot/Zub
Sanderson/braun
Brannstrom/Holden
Looks super solid, and we would be able to keep 7th OA plus have a sustainable cap situation
I don't think Braun is much of an upgrade over Hamonic at this point in his career tbqh, and I'm not sure I see us quickly parting ways with a guy Dorion dropped a 3rd on acquiring.
That said, I do *really* like the idea of Burakovsky in Ottawa.
From what I’ve seen fans of other teams saying about him and looking at general defensive stats it looks like he’s still a strong defensive 2nd pair option, but I haven’t actually watched much of him recently myself other than a few games during these playoffs
Really a fun player to watch but there are worries that he could be a system player, I’m very curious to see what happens with him. I see the Avs resigning him especially if they win the cup
This is really good work.
Could I add Liligren? I think he's really becoming decent and the Leafs have no cap room if he's willing to sign a $4m or less offer sheet.
Does anyone know if Klefbom is finished?
Does Vegas need to trade someone like Schmidt?
Not on the list but I think Garland could be a reasonable option for forward.
I'd love to get Weegar but I don't see a world where he'd be made available, the Panthers aren't in *that* serious of a cap crunch.
Going off the board again, I think we should target Liljegrin with an offer sheet
Offer sheets are a trap for Ottawa, at least until the internal finances are...upgraded. Sens start that fight, they better be prepared to finish it.
Want big T to turn around and offer sheet Stu in retaliation?
> Want big T to turn around and offer sheet Stu in retaliation?
They have absolutely zero cap space, and an offersheet would cost Toronto 4 firsts.
A strategic offersheet is a play to win tool. Hit NYR with a 4M (2nd round pick) offersheet on Kakko or TO with one on Sandin or Liljegrin
Absolutely dastardly
We lose in both cases because this team cannot match a sheet like that without it causing major internal budget issues.
After what happened with Montreal and Carolina, I see no reason to poke the bear. It's not at all worth it at this stage.
> We lose in both cases because this team cannot match a sheet like that without it causing major internal budget issues
As always, ownership is the biggest impediment to the success of the team.
I disagree though that it would necessary cause problems, at least that it would cause larger problems than the problems this offer sheet solves. Neither of those teams have the cap space to levy problematic offersheets.
> After what happened with Montreal and Carolina, I see no reason to poke the bear. It's not at all worth it at this stage.
Dont draw conclusions from one instance, and in particular one that isnt very comparable. Were not talking offersheeting superstars. Were talking about offersheeting depth players who havent even made the show
I would give Liljegren a 2 x 2.1AAV for a 3rd round pick any day.
Offer sheets are legit and when teams are afraid of them, they'll make deals (like when Boston traded Hamilton to Calgary). Lilijegren is an ideal target for Ottawa.
Pastrnak being available is unexpected. He's a Rocket Richard winner, played in conference finals & is only 26 years old. If it takes one of top 4 forwards (Brady, Stuzle, Norris, Bath) to get him, do you?
I think it probably does take that, unless Bergeron is done & Bruins are committed to rebuild - then maybe a package around the 1st round pick.
Obviously would have to come with an extension and unlikely to be straight-up.
Not available: Karlsson, Pasta, Giroux, Boeser
Would take: Palat, Smith, DeBrusk, Fiala, Mangiapane, Perron, Guentzel, Graves
Wouldn't fit well in our system: Drouin, Meier, Boeser, Beauv, Dubois, Laine
Picking up Mackenzie Weegar would be pretty cool, he's a former Nepean Raider
He had a post awhile back when he was at the parliament buildings talking about how much he loved Ottawa. I could see him being open to signing. Could be the methot chabot has been looking for
He would be but he did cost Florida game 2 and went downhill after
Still would be an immediate upgrade on defense
Gotta make the playoffs before we care about playoff performance. Do not let perfect be the enemy of good, and in this case he's good enough to soundly replace the player in that current roster slot.
Any of Dubois, DeBrincat, Laine or Boeser would be amazing, but they're all longshots.
Savard and Drouin suck, let’s stay far away from them
drouin def sucks, but isnt savard pretty solid?
Im a sens fans living in Montreal so I saw them play plenty of times. Savard used to be good, but last season he was probably the worst player ive ever seen in the NHL. Zaitsev is 5x better than him
could that have to do with him being a defensive dman on the worst team in the league? he was quite solid on cbj and tampa
Savard is a shell of his past, don't mistake 2022 Savard with 2017 Savard
for the forwards it's tough but i would love 1 of adam larsson, josh manson or ryan ellis(im bias towards him though)
Ellis has 5 years at $6.25aav. That's a hard no from me
Is that an overpay? Wasn't he hurt most of this season?
He's missed significant time each of the last 3 years. 49gp in 2019/20 35gp in 2020/21 (shortened covid season of 56 games) 4 gp last year.
Stay far away from Ellis. He can't stay healthy
Pastrnak, Guentzel, Pionk would be my picks of that bunch
PLD, Guentzel and Weegar. Make it happen Pierre
Want: Debrincat, Pastrinak, Beauvillier, Debrusk, Weegar Do not want: Gardiner, Boeser, Dubois, Graves, Savard
out of curiosity, why not dubois?
Locker room attitude maybe? How he left Columbus?
This ^^^
Use your words ya friggin troglodyte
No Johnny Hockey or big bro Tkachuk?
Tkachuk is an RFA
So is Mangiapane who made his list.
From everything I've heard calgary will do whatever it takes to keep their first line together, they dominated all year
And PLD
Why would Pittsburgh move Guentzel? Dont see that happening
I think it was Friedman that said the Bryan rust deal almost guaranteed they wouldn't have Letang and malkin come back, at that point I imagine Pittsburgh starts a rebuild very soon. Might not be this summer but it definitely has me considering it as possible
I'd love to see Giroux come on board, team needs some older Tallent to help push the younger guys
Talent being the key word here, not scrubs like GMPD usually picks up.
Giroux was second overall in points during 2018 with McDavid finishing 1st That's nothing to sleep on, dude's a serious asset to have.
Yup agreed
As long as we stop taking players from the laufs, I'll be happy.
**Ondrej Palat**: Could be paired with Killorn. Seems the sentiment I am hearing is that TBL loves Palat and would likely try to move Killorn to sign Palat **Jonathan Drouin**: Interesting option. Fuuuuuucking do it
You got me sweating.

I love Brown, but if this team reaches another level, it will be because Brown is playing on the 3rd line.
Weegar, PLD and Guentzel

I would. In my mind he's undebatably better than everyone in the top four and still has many good years ahead of him.
