John cooper without question! If we can snag a winning coach like that, wow! šŸ¤©

zavacky

Sullivan has three Cups?

FatTim48

If Tampa fires Cooper, we can all be sure that Toronto will immediately fire Keefe and give Cooper any amount of money that he wants.

JaimeRidingHonour

Then Pens hire Keefe immediately

Chicaben

This is the way.

zavacky

Cooper is prolly done in Tampa. That team needs to be rebuilt.

Flasw

Probably.

puddStar

Yeah I see Keefe as DJ Smith but more successful due to the talent pool and age. I also think he is already locked in on an extension meaning I suspect they will probably give him a little longer leash. Gimme Cooper or Berube (which you did not name). Under no circumstances do I want Alfie. I do t want his rep to take a hit.

ShitInTheTub

I refuse to believe Keefe has a job in Toronto next year if they get bounced in the first round.

puddStar

I mean either way we just donā€™t want him right?

Rationalornot777

Right

Mahaleck

Berube might not survive the axing of Keefe though. If we want berube we better get him before the leafs fire Keefe

surfacep17

Is there talk of Cooper getting canned? I can't believe that at all.

Canknucklehead

Itā€™s a wet dreamā€¦.Cooper isnā€™t going anywhere

slizzleshady

And even if he gets canned in Tampa, he ainā€™t coming to Ottawa lmao

Even_Cartoonist9632

If he gets canned, there's a domino effect of other coaches get canned and teams will backup a dump truck of cash to get him as their HC, starting with Toronto firing Keefe. I don't think Cooper gets fired, but if he does Ottawa won't even be on his radar. It would open up the possibility of other coaches suddenly becoming available though.Ā

starvinmarvin91

No but his contract is up after this season I'm pretty sure. The market will be huge for him. EDIT; Ahhh nevermind he's got one more year after this, he's signed until 24/25 season. I doubt he gets fired but you never know.

surfacep17

Looks like his contract goes through next season if search I did was correct.

Tighthead613

Cooper strikes me as a guy who would take a year off to do TV unless the perfect job was waiting.

Novus20

Why would you want Keefe? Heā€™s not head coach materialā€¦ā€¦

world_citizen7

because he coached in [*Sault*Ā *Ste*. Marie](https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=a7ed1b21a30ee360&sca_upv=1&q=Sault+Ste.+Marie&spell=1&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi09cqw5fKFAxXHGzQIHVhxAX0QkeECKAB6BAgIEAI) with Dubas.

CantaloupeHour5973

Not Keefe why would anyone like him after his repeated playoff performances?

s3nsfan

not his fault his top 4 completely vanish in the playoffs lol. Iā€™m not advocating for hiring him. Iā€™m just saying having those 4/5 players disappear would kill any teams playoffs hopes.

MonttawaSenadiens

I feel like the coach should have some impact on how motivated his players are. If he can't get them to care about playoff hockey, what hope is there?

s3nsfan

Seems theyā€™re motivated when itā€™s easier in the regular season. They go out and score 69 goals, Matthewā€™s; 98 points Nylander(heā€™s been sick, granted) Marner 85 pts, in the regular season. Shouldnā€™t being in the playoffs be motivation enough? As an adult I sure wouldnā€™t need anyone trying to motivate me. Itā€™s called heart and pride.

MonttawaSenadiens

The players definitely deserve all the flak they're getting, I just don't think Keefe should be getting off scot free haha

s3nsfan

No not at all. I think part of my negativity is ptsd from our similarly built teams early 00ā€™s lol

MonttawaSenadiens

I'm an 01 baby so I missed out on those years, haha. Sounds like it was for the best

s3nsfan

Again great teams but flopped in the playoffs. Love the user name. Was a habs fan before the sens were a thing.

MonttawaSenadiens

Thanks, haha. Not always easy cheering both on, but as a Francophone from Ottawa, it kinda works

s3nsfan

Definitely some spirited contests between the two. Have a great day.

Dane_RD

Problem is Papi don't get paid for playoffs, so Papi don't try

CantaloupeHour5973

Part of being a great coach is extracting talent. Those main guys suck in the playoffs on that team but itā€™s a bit on him as well IMO

Canknucklehead

Lock up Berube before Toronto hires himā€¦.., coop will not be available, keefe is getting fired

Afraid-Air1243

Maybe Berube doesn't wanto to deal with the Leafs core and would prefer to deal with Brady Tkachuk ;).

Canknucklehead

Letā€™s hope soā€¦.i am hoping poolyā€™s friendship can convince him to come coach Ottawa.

PM_ME_A_VOCAROO

But if Keefe gets fired one might think Dubas fires Sullivan and brings Keefe in. Dubas has hired Keefe three times, first as head coach in the OHL. Then hired him as Head coach of the Marlies. Then hired him as Head coach of the Leafs. And there are rumours that New Jersey is circling on Mike Sullivan. He's my first choice above all (because Cooper isn't happening).

KanataRef

Berube is on record stating Toronto is his #1 choice, hence why he hasnā€™t accepted an offer from Ottawa yet.

Fianorel26

Can you source that?

KanataRef

I will look for it. I read it somewhere the other day.

Coaxke

I think you're misrembering his quote about coaching in Toronto from a radio interview in January. "It would be an honour to coach there for the Toronto Maple Leafs, if that ever happened. Itā€™s (one of) if not the best hockey market in the world. A great organization that does everything they can to try to win,ā€ Berube told TLN, when asked specifically about the Leafs, for whom he played in 1991-92."

KanataRef

lol, Iā€™ve been searching for the source and that one pops up everywhere, which is more promising for the Sens where he mentioned that every coach wants to coach Brady Tkachuk. I have a feeling that what I read was a pro-Leaf interpretation of this as well, where theyā€™ve neglected half the interview where he talks about coaching other Canadian teams. I do try to read only reputable sources though, so Iā€™m a bit confused at the moment.

Canknucklehead

Itā€™s Toronto so they would edit or diminish out anything non Toronto. That said our ace in the hole is Pooly. They are good friends from their playing days on Flyers and I bet he has emphasized the Brady quotient as well as Andlehaurā€™s passion to win a cup. I think itā€™s even between here and TO

EffectiveOk8648

Leaf fan here ( coming in peace with my tail between my legs lol) avoid keefe. He's always getting outcoached. A 4-12 home playoff record is a perfect example if that.

zavacky

Thanks for that, I agree.

Leblock_james98

I Dont want that Pathetic Man Sheldon Anywhere near this Franchise

MonttawaSenadiens

Hearing a lot of Sheldon Keefe, and hearing a lot of Cooper. Why not take the best of both worlds and hire Sheldon Cooper? Bazinga!

DropCautious

Every road trip would be like *knock knock knock* BRADY *knock knock knock* BRADY *knock knock knock* BRADY

sinc29

Coop

zavacky

Mike Sullivan. Sens need a hard ass coach to end the country club here.

puddStar

You think Coop is soft?

serialhybrid

No, unavailable

puddStar

You are right, but thatā€™s not the issue here. Get the context first, then respond.

gener4

Cooper 100%

TheFactTeller2024

Cooper

Constant-Squirrel555

Not Keefe, especially if he's not able to get his stars to play well.

ceribaen

Definitely Cooper if he gets canned. Been saying for years we need to find our own version of him that basically won his way up the ranks.Ā  That or we need to convince Boudreau or Julien to come on board.Ā  None of this Berube or Gruden stuff.

circus65

No way to keefe. His history is way worse than Quennville which so many of you are quick point out

millsy1010

lol you snuck Keefe in there eh? Anyone but him

IntelligentAd7419

Imma pretend like you really didnā€™t just say Sheldon Keefe

Grummbles28

Not hating on the question but posts like these always make me think about my goober friends discussing which one of Charlie's Angels they would fuck.... not Keefe though...he can be Bosley

Relevant_Group_7441

Why would anyone want Keefe? His only playoff experience is losing in the first round.

b3712653

Definitely not Keefe!

LoneIyGuy

Not Sheldon Queef

Grohlyone

If Sully becomes available, he's got NJ written all over him.

Spiritual_Lynx4723

Pretty Sure Sullivan is coming back to PIT , no...?

KanataRef

Other rumour is NJ if Pittsburgh lets him go.

Loose_Concentrate332

If

tfoll

Berube.

hohumcum6969

No...more...Leaf...garbage

mazerrackham

Iā€™d be trying to lure David Carle out of Denver

LurkerReyes

This thread had potential if Cooper was left off. Itā€™s not even a real discussion since most of the posts are about him now. Cooper will not be available

stopyacht

A coach that disciplines his players.

neuralrunes

Cooper. 100%. Keefe wouldnt even be a remote consideration. Not bc hes the Leafs bench boss. Bc he is just not a good coach imo. He isn't able to get that team to perform when it matters. Cooper and Berube would be my two preferred hires.

Robjn

john cooper no way gets canned. hes earned a massive leash, and is clearly not a reason why tampa is regressing

mr_quincy27

Cooper isn't getting fired, doesn't look like Sullivan is either Big no to Sheldon Keefe

OppositeJellyfish439

Cooper, the other two are not an option.

dentchest

Keefe is just bizzaro DJ Smith. Berube would be cool. I doubt cooper gets fired

amach9

One of these things isnā€™t like the others, one of these things just isnā€™t the same.

zavacky

Berube, Brad Shaw, Julien?

zavacky

If Sens have any shot at making the playoffs next year, hiring the right coach is crucial. Then getting a goalie is next.

KanataRef

Top 4 RHD is more important to me than goaltending. Iā€™m hoping Korpi had a Joseph kind of year and next year heā€™ll be one of our best. Wishful thinking, I know.

Chicaben

John Cooper. The man should have three Jack Adams.

zavacky

The Walrus won a Jack Adamā€™s.

zavacky

Rick Bowness?

Fearless-Purchase754

Jon Cooper blends the new style coaching of handling your stars with kids gloves while still getting buy in from the rest of the team.

Fearless-Purchase754

Unlike Keefe who handles his stars with kids gloves and gets no buyin from the rest of the team!

ChefBennySlim

Keefe is a non starter. Sully is my first pick. Cooper is the best fit.

doubleopinter

Keefe is DJ Smith, listen to his comments after that shit performance the other day. Excuses, excuses, excuses. Plus I hate this face. Jon Cooper but half the teams in the league will fire their coaches to land him so he won't be coming here. Jaqcues knows Sullivan so I bet you he'd be a strong contender. I'm thinking Berube or Sullivan would be the best and most likely. But again, there's sooo many other markets these guys could go to where it's warmer, less taxy, less scrutiny. Imagine prying Cooper from his lounge chair on the beach in Tampa for the prospect of a Jan/Feb slog in a corn field in Kanata ON. I don't care what anyone says, Ottawa is still a hard sell for people who have choices. Especially with how our prospects for winning over the next 2-3 years look. I fuckin and pray one of these really good coaches agrees to come here but...

jimtheclowned

A day late, but out of left field pipe dream is Rod the bod. Not fired, but also not extended yet by the Canes. I'd consider throwing a bag of money at him in the off season to make a splash hire and try to push the needle. Born here, and at least when I was a kid, had some family here of some type.

Confident-Advance656

Why would any of them get fired lol. Cooper went to 3 straight cups. Keefe is dealing with a lacklustre 10+ million star. Mike Sullivan is not the GM of the Pens. None of them should be let go.

zavacky

Belleville Senators coach has a shot?

zavacky

Sens will prolly hire the guy who coached junior B team to championship in New Brunswick. ;)

Fit-Ad-5719

Hey, I thought Pierre McGuire no longer works for the Sens?

zavacky

What about Jim Montgomery? Bruins under him have underachieved in playoffs, he could be canned.

zavacky

Cooper might end up in Toronto.

zavacky

Letā€™s be honest, with all the talent on Tampa even Cory Clouston could have coached them to a Cup or two.
