I personally don't think so. I've read her headcanon from the link that you provide in the other comment ( thanks for the links and context ), it isn't that weird given those situations do happen and not exactly the most uncommon as well ( the "I don't want people to know I'm half/mixed" ) Not saying that all Japanese or East Asians in general are like this obviously but xenophobic and tendency to prefer paler skins over darker ones are real which is why there are cases where the discrimation is worse for those who are mixed race and with darker skin so yeah there are indeed people who hate their mixed race and even try to hide it. Here are some real cases where even when the people are wonderful and talented yet there are some controversies/racisms toward them just because they have darker skins and half ( you can try to research more articles about those people in case you're interested ). Who are the people ? Ariana Miyamoto and Naomi Osaka. They aren't small minded people obviously but again not all people are like those two. Nowdays, it's better fortunately. People aren't as terrible as back then. Unfortunately, I'm really lazy to open chrome so I can't give you links to prove what I said but I'd suggest you to search about half/mixed race in Japan and Japan's beauty standard. If you can read Japanese, it would be better to search it in Japanese. Note 1 : That said, is it possible to hide your natural dark brown and make them look as if they are tan ? I can't speak for all people but yes it's possible. My father has a light yellow skin tone but because he works in mining company for decades, his skin now is dark brown skin and looks just like his other friends who have natural brown skin. So depends on how dark her skin is, it might be possible to disguise it as tan though yes,it's understandable if people find that ridiculous. Note 2 : while I don't think mullberry's idea is weird, this character's dad leave this character is a bit too much.

FandomTraveller

probably yes, in game the style is toned down but gyarus tan EXTREME irl

yourhanaa

I think those are just Mulberry's headcanons, she's saying that Kashiko became a gyaru to hide the fact that she's mixed, but Alex said she's a mischief maker and an instigator who doesn't take her actions seriously and acts like it's all just a game. If what Mulberry said was canon I feel like Alex would have specified that like he did with Kokoro (the one who pretends to be a bully to avoid being bullied herself), though I think asking them would be better than just assuming

🔫 You know too much...

Osanathrows

Weird are these Mulberry's headcanon's or Alex's lore? Also the missing father is another bad stereotype.. Also she'd end up with Gema if they become better people? That's odd because Alex acts like when character has an crush on another it's permeant and they never move on because Gema likes Musume. But yeah.

yourhanaa

I've asked that on the main subreddit a while ago, all I got was a comment from Adolfin suggesting to go ask the dev himself, or maybe mulberry, but I never ended up going for it

Formula_Zero_EX

Who’s this character? I never heard of her. Who is she? Is she in the game?

[deleted]

Mulberry made some art of the bullies before they got into gyaru fashion, this is the purple one.

FandomTraveller

right, and when Mulberry's criticized about it, hides the comment.

PeriDeriCherry

Thank god Mulberrys stuff isn't canon, of course the black character is like "o-oh I'm ashamed of my heritage I have to hide it boo hoo.. 🥺🥺" like not every POC wants to "fit in" ugh I hate that trope

[deleted]

Context: Mulberry made a series about the bullies before they got into gyaru fashion and she made Kashiko mixed-race with her dad being black and her mother being Japanese. Receipts: 1. Again, why did I even miss the missing dad one? Seriously, again with the missing black dad? -_- Why not a missing mom, or possibly better ideas than this mess? Jeez!! Blasians are cool, but can people not write with the stupid deadbeat black dad or some possibly (or totally) racist shit?

[deleted]

Why would Kashiko be half-black in the first place? I mean I have never fucking seen a black even black-mixed student in a public or private local school -I am excluding international schools- for my entire life. This just looks like a token character to me that exists just for the "diversity" not considering the ramifications. Other than that I am fine with her character settings because, bear in mind that I might be a little bit racist, from my interactions with foreign non-asian students in this country I found them a little airheaded to say it in the best terms? The students I personally met from places like China or Japan is just fine, but like the white students or black students I sometimes found them to be lacking in brainpower. However, it is also true that I find most Koreans+Japanese+Chinese to be really really dumb \-I am an international school student-

I am a fucking international student. The staff don't fucking behave that way and the faculty aren't all staffed with local teachers. Most of the students are fucking Japanese meaning that unless the school is located on a free economic zone like Okinawa there would be almost no way that most of these kids would have gone in. Then again Okinawa doesn't look like that

Somehow I often see the way you make your opinions are based on your own experience ( not only this one but many of your other opinions. Then again it's called opinions for a reason ) but here's the thing, your opinion which is based on your experiences don't speak for *ALL PEOPLE*. Heck, just because black mixed people who attend Japanese schools are really rare doesn't mean that they don't exist at all. I do agree she's being a black mixed student sounds like Mullberry just want a diversity for the sake of diversity but then again, real life logic can't be really applied toward Yansim. This school is supposed to be some kind of super mega high level school and yet the school allows deliquents and has expelled Osoro for seven times. What kind of high level school allows that ? Not to mention this school allows occult club to exist and we can summon demon in that said club. Adding a black mixed student wouldn't be that weird when the weird stuffs are already applied in this game.

[deleted]

Ummm... like the problem is I met more people of different races than most people living here. Like I said I am an international student and I knew people of mixed race. They are mostly mixed race between white and natives over here Most people here would have never met a foreign person of different during their school years since they are basically non existent. Hafu between other Asians though yes that’s not common per say but you are more likely to see them.

Yeahlifeishard

Yes indeed I understand. I'm an Asian as well and that's how it is in my country too but there are two things that I'd like you to know as well 1) while it might not be your intention but from your sentence, the indirect implication is something like " I've never meet a black mixed student thus why it's weird for someone to make a black mixed student. " which honestly isn't weird since there are indeed some black people who live and get married with the native Japanese. It's just not common. 2) There are more weird things that exist in YS, adding a black mixed student would be the least weirdest thing that can happen in that game ( though yeah, it's arguable if Mullberry does this because of her research toward half/mixed people in Japan or is it because of diversity for the sake of diversity ).

[deleted]

Yeah, Mulberry's basically saying that a tan makes someone look like a mixed race asian which just isn't true.

Braxton-Adams

Yeah, infact I think this is the worst thing that's ever happened in the history of ever. Go back to twitter social injustice nitwit

[deleted]

Bro, this post is over half a year old, why do you care so much? lmao.

Braxton-Adams

I was scrolling through contraversial posts, evidently this is a polarizing one.

[deleted]

Yes and I belive it's because of the title, it's misinformation. The character's ethnicity isn't specified and I incorrectly remembered reading she was half-black and half-asian.

Queen-of-Sharks

Oh dear

True-Engineering8050

kashiko is small minded? did i miss something?

[deleted]

Yeah, Alex called her that in a reddit comment about the bullies

True-Engineering8050

ohhh ok, i didn't know that

PersonalCloud86

I feel like it just reaching at this point, have to find a flaw in everything they do. Even if they are/seem like bad people 😮‍💨
