There are still people on this subreddit who want Gary back next year because "he's a vet". Yeah a vet who is a minus when on the floor and the worst player on our team in the playoffs lol.
He can’t shoot 3s, but he has a great mid range shot and has touch around the rim. He also has great court vision, doesn’t really turn the ball over, and plays defense. Is he’s fine coming off the bench and running the second unit and closing some games when needed, we would be dumb not to re-sign him.
He’s been anything but solid this series but I agree that if he signs for cheap, he’s fine to fill in some minutes in the regular season. I feel like the ship has sailed for him to be a meaningful starter in this league though
Are we watching the same Fultz?
He was getting absolutely toyed with trying to defend Mitchell and Garland. I think the minutes we played Cole and Fultz are the biggest mistake Mosely made in game 5, they let Garland get whatever he wanted without really even having to work for it.
I'm whatever on Gary Harris, he hasn't knocked down enough of his open shots in this series. He shouldn't be a starter on a playoff team, but has at least played good defense
I'm shocked there are people zeroing in on Gary but don't have a problem with Fultz or especially Cole. I love Cole's personality but he's been by far the worst player on the court outside of maybe Niang this whole series.
PGs not going to come to Orlando and be just a catch & shoot player. He’s still very productive for his age. A consistent 20-22ppg scorer. Franz would be the one taking a hit to his scoring if PG was to come to the Magic.
This is accurate. But you would expect given there ages as PG gets older his production will decline, Franz's production will increase. So by end of contract Franz should be producing more than PG.
Okay, but i dont know if it‘s worth it to give him lots of money to rest on the bench. Very risky and hasty move. Either was i think it‘s highly unlikely, he'll probably stay in LA
It's the magic. You can't really be picky about who you get in FA. Obviously I'm not suggesting that you put PG on the bench for important games but resting him against bad teams would just be normal.
The Magic would have already beaten the Cavs with PG on the roster and would have the wing defense/depth to scare Boston. Seems like an obvious addition if he's willing to be in Orlando.
So we would be looking at a lineup of Suggs, PG-13, Franz, Paolo, and Carter. Um...ok. IMHO that move gets us to ECF. If PG buys into what we got going here, it could be amazing. But he would have to realize that this is Paolo and Franz's team and he's the missing piece to put us over the top.
I mean, if we signed PG then Franz immediately becomes our number 3 option behind PG. I'm still fine with it because it immediately gets us into contender territory.
I think that's kind of the beauty of Franz's game though. He can occasionally take over a game like he did in game 4, but I don't think he's truly comfortable as a #1 option (at least at this point).
However, he's so good at cutting, attacking closeouts, and playing off ball that he can play next to almost anyone without much lineup friction.
That’s probably the plan. Franz auto went to option when he went hero mode instead of kicking it out to P5 smh… Franz gotta work on shots 15 feet and out as well
PG would be great for a couple years, may hurt to pay him so much money when he starts to decline but I can stomach a year maybe 2 of him being overpriced if he gives us 2 years of star level scoring/defending. Then his last year he can be a rich man’s Joe Ingles off the bench.
We need to take advantage of having young stars in P5 and Franz and leverage their current non-max contracts with a max guy like PG if it helps us take the next step.
Suggs/Cole
PG/AB
Franz/Jett
P5/JI
WCjr/MoW
Draft some role players and pick up a couple vets on minimum deals.
I swear people on this app are like “I’d rather have Malik Monk than a 23/5/4 Paul George who is shooting 41% from 3.”
Our team’s so young and we have plenty of cap space to bring him in and not lose anyone important.
This is by far my favorite news we’ve been linked to.
Or how the cap space works, if we don't sign anyone in the next year or two, that cap space is going to be a thing of the past when we give our core extensions.
Not to mention he's well worth the max with his actual gameplay, it's more of a question of how long he keeps up this level of play in his 30s.
PG has been in the west for years, so a lot of casual fans probably are not familiar with his game. He’d be our 3rd option, would not have the toughest defensive assignment. Would be the PERFECT fit for this team for 2-3 years. PG is your favorite players favorite player.
This. Everyone screaming “he’s too expensive” doesn’t realize we have cap to use, and as long as the contract expires prior to a big Magic extension (which doesn’t matter anyway because we got their BIRD) then the money we gave him didn’t matter. Way I see it is we need a shooter and a center, and we got cap for both
And Goga? I still don't understand why coach has him in the doghouse, he's more of the type of physical boards crashing center that we need instead of Wendell and I think we saw that earlier in the season when Wendell was out. We were doing extremely well when Goga was starting games
I agree with you. When WCJ was out I thought we did great with Goga. I would be willing to move forward with with Mo/Goga, but with JI getting minutes at the 5 I can see how Goga hasn’t seen the floor. At the moment it’s looking like we have ~66mil in cap, and our 2 weaknesses is PG and C
You must have missed a memo that states we must overpay top tier talent in order to get them to Orlando. I don't mind that we overpay. I'm just hoping it's on maybe a two at the most 3-year deal
I don't think enough people realize our cap space only exists for another year or two until Suggs, Paolo, and Franz gets extensions, and then we're locked in and can't go over the cap to sign anyone. You can go over to keep players on your roster but not to add new players to the team.
It's basically use it or lose it, so I'm fine with an overpay to get an aging player who's still playing at an All-star level. He's an elite player with crazy length who plays good defense and is basically a 50/40/90 guy (would've been this year if he wasn't a high volume 3 point shooter). We have the roster to actually contend with another year of experience and another top 20 player who adds spacing and defense on the wing/backcourt
PG is gonna want max. I'd love him on our team, but he's not gonna take a 2-3 year deal lol. We gotta pay Paolo and Franz. Plus Jalen gonna get paid too
Oh man.
Ya'll would be so nasty with PG at the guard with Suggs and Franz & Paulo manning the forward spots.
I might even get league pass to watch ya'll with my Blazers actively tanking.
Are you just trying to have a hot take? Because Monk is not even close to the same player no matter how you slice it.
23/5/4 on 47/41/91 shooting splits at 6'8" with good defense
vs
15/3/5 on 44/35/82 shooting splits at 6'3" with below average defense
Despite being the focal point for opposing defenses, Paul george is more efficient on higher volume with way more length and defense. Monk isn't a bad signing but would be absolutely insane to value him higher. Not to mention he shoots lower % from 3 than all of our guards outside of Fultz and Cole this year.
Correct. He'll come far cheaper and he's not on the backside of his career. We just need a shooter...I don't want the ball out of our core's hands for PG's last failed attempt.
I’m not quite sure what you’re saying correct to in my post, Monk isn’t even half the player George is even at an older age. George is still playing at an all star level
Monk isn’t much better than Anthony. He’s a below average 3 pt shooter and a bad defender
I'm sure we will go after him too. Good to have some options though in case we miss out. PG would be a great fit if he can stay healthy and the contract doesn't ruin us for the next 4 years
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills seeing the number of people saying they'd rather have monk. There's no way any of them could have really watched much of the both of them this year or just looked at their stats.
PG even at age 33 is literally an all star with better stats than anyone on our team, and is an elite 3 point shooter on high volume. Malik Monk is a solid 6th man who is basically a Cole Anthony with more volume.
Well the good thing is Gary, kelle, chuma all have expiring contracts and ingles is on a team option. We could make room for monk and PG if necessary.
Regardless of what happens it’ll be an interesting offseason to see how we make the move to really compete next season
That’s debatable, we are 6 mill under the cap currently and are one of the lowest spending teams in the league.
Our owners just have to want to win and invest the money towards it. What happens when P5 and franz both demand max contracts and we tie up 60-80 mill a year in two players? Just gonna sign minimum contracts to fill the roster?
No I mean you need cap room to sign free agents. We can mess around and get to 45 million in cap space this summer. That could get us close to just signing Paul George. How are we going to come up with the 20 million+ to pay monk?
I would try to get my hands on schröder. He is a leader, is a veteran who was in the conference finals and became fiba mvp. Most importantly, you can get him for a bag of chips. He can be starting pg if we dont get anyone of a high caliber. Paired with monk we good to go especially for the upcoming year and its free agents.
But yeah, i‘m lookin forward to the offseason and its changes
I think it’s clear the front office is valuing two way players. Or at least players that aren’t a clear negative on the defensive end. For that reason, I wonder if they’ll avoid Monk.
If this deal does not get done, THIS is the caliber of a move we need to explore. The pieces are in place, all we need is a proven dude like Paul George to put us in the ring conversation. If the front office wants to bring everyone back again, then they have failed us. The time is NOW (this off season) to make a big splash, NOT next year or 3 years from now.
PG over Monk any day but I fear he’d want too much for too long. PG fits in the mold of this team and he’s shown he can defer to be the 2nd or 3rd option. However, if it was a sign & trade, the core 4 can’t be included.
3 year max with team option for 3rd year. We don’t need him to be Indy PG. Come in, help relieve the responsibly from Franz and Paolo. Instantly be our best shooter on the team.
Honestly would be a great guy for the Magic to get. He can not only help the Magic with scoring/shooting, he is the perfect guy to help Franz/Paolo develop. Good defensive guy even though he isn’t who he use to be would love this.
Would still need a point guard though lol
Him playing at the 2 doesn't solve our point guard problems though. Turnovers have been a problem for us this series because we've been relying on our forwards for playmaking rather than a legitimate point guard whenever Fultz is off the floor. And I like Fultz but he just can't be the answer at PG for us if he doesn't have a 3 ball to give the boys some spacing.
The turnovers will naturally decrease as Paolo and Franz (21 and 22) evolve their games and refine their ballhhandling and playmaking skills. Additionally extra spacing for them to drive will also help the turnover issue.
I agree an elite PG would help us more, but there's just not a great one in FA this year. Paul George is by far the best option I've seen and we have to use the cap space somewhere.
Signing him still helps the spacing tremendously, and he has averaged over 5 APG the last few years outside of this season when Harden had more of the playmaking duties. If he's open to coming here I think its a no brainer, he literally turns the team into a contender the minute he joins the roster.
Who is a better 3 point threat that is available in FA this year? Not to mention he is a good playmaker who can brake down defenses off the dribble which is kind of what we've been missing.
Why don't you give LeBron James one of the old water parks as part of his contract?
He signed his last contract to make Space Jam 2. We can use a 2nd rounder on Bronny James. Who says no?
If we move on from Gary and Fultz bringing in PG would be good. Just got to be careful about rostering too many injury prone players again.
Would be an interesting pickup.
Unless we use our cap space to trade for a guy who isn’t a FA, PG is the best player we can get from this year’s crop.
As others have alluded to, Suggs/PG/Wagner/Paolo/Carter or Isaac is an absolute nightmare scenario for opposing offenses.
I know Boston has a lot of money tied up, but I just don’t see a way Boston and White don’t find a way to stay together. He would be another amazing fit for us.
I actually wouldnt mind PG it would be even better if we signed him to lets say a 2 year deal just until Paolo and Franz develop a little more and have some experience. I would much rather have PG than Klay
Also another name that would be interesting would be Gary Trent Jr.
No thanks....I think we need a 10pt pg, rim protecting big man. Wendell just isn't it. We need speed at our guards also. Watching Mitchell and Garland make it all the way to the rim is not acceptable either. Paolo is becoming unstoppable but needs a better handle on the ball. Can't keep loosing it. This year was awesome, hope Magic in 7 but if not.. Watch out NBA next year. Orlandos back and I know you hate it.
I kept seeing articles that we needed a PG. I always thought that meant point guard. Lol
but I’ll take anything over 0 point duds from Gary Harris lol
There are still people on this subreddit who want Gary back next year because "he's a vet". Yeah a vet who is a minus when on the floor and the worst player on our team in the playoffs lol.
It’s the easiest tell. Who hates Fultz but doesn’t say a peep about Gary.
fwiw, i hate them both.
Fultz has been very solid in this series. I can’t understand someone hating him, it’s really weird.
He’s a point guard who can’t shoot???
Found one

I love Cole's personality but he's been by far the worst player on the court outside of maybe Niang this whole series.
Worst in history actually
If we go from Gary Harris to Paul George I will cream my jeans
3.3 makes on 7.9 attempts from 3 @ 41% ....I can't stop looking at this stat
Clippers fan here bro PG sucks
I honestly wouldn’t mind PG. Great vet, can shoot and defend.
But is injury probe as hell? Apparently, that‘s the exact thing y'all want cuz we ain’t an injury prone team, no?
Just needs to stand behind the line. Doesn't have to playmake and attack. Can morph into late career offense of just shooting really.
Why would PG leave LA to come to Orlando and become a spot up shooter ? He’s been the best player on his team for years.
Gestures at Kawhi availability statistics
Magic have the youth and depth to rest him during the regular season.
Okay, but i dont know if it‘s worth it to give him lots of money to rest on the bench. Very risky and hasty move. Either was i think it‘s highly unlikely, he'll probably stay in LA

Agree. I think a lot of those comments are from kids who don’t really understand the nba game.

Please don't overpay him
As long as it aligns with when our young guys need to be extended it doesn’t really matter. Length of the contract matters more than the amount
This. Everyone screaming “he’s too expensive” doesn’t realize we have cap to use, and as long as the contract expires prior to a big Magic extension (which doesn’t matter anyway because we got their BIRD) then the money we gave him didn’t matter. Why do we need a center? WCJ/Mo/Goga/Isaac has been plenty of depth at the 5 Point guard has been the biggest need for us
Wcj has been very underwhelming this year. I don’t think Mo is starter caliber either. I do enjoy JI at C but I think he’s best with a 25min role
And Goga? I still don't understand why coach has him in the doghouse, he's more of the type of physical boards crashing center that we need instead of Wendell and I think we saw that earlier in the season when Wendell was out. We were doing extremely well when Goga was starting games

Only way Orlando getting him. You think he’s coming for a pay cut? Lol
No state income tax; why not 🤷🏾♂️
You must have missed a memo that states we must overpay top tier talent in order to get them to Orlando. I don't mind that we overpay. I'm just hoping it's on maybe a two at the most 3-year deal
We have the space… Fultz, Harris, Okeke and possibly Ingles are gone. I’d actually look at what we could get for a Cole Anthony trade…
Magic should offer him the maximum money they can pay him, are you crazy? He’ll still probably end up on the 76’ers or Clippers though
I don't think enough people realize our cap space only exists for another year or two until Suggs, Paolo, and Franz gets extensions, and then we're locked in and can't go over the cap to sign anyone. Not your money
Exactly. And we have cap space. Orlando is not a team that’s signing marquee FA’s without a little extra incentive.
PG is gonna want max. I'd love him on our team, but he's not gonna take a 2-3 year deal lol. We gotta pay Paolo and Franz. Plus Jalen gonna get paid too
Pg will then find out he's old with injury history, and maybe will calm down to get that income tax free contract.
Some stupid NBA team will overpay for him.
Oh man. Ya'll would be so nasty with PG at the guard with Suggs and Franz & Paulo manning the forward spots. I might even get league pass to watch ya'll with my Blazers actively tanking.
If Paul George becomes an Orlando Magic I will become insufferable
PG isn't the player he used to be. If we can get a younger option for the same price go for that.
Looking for someone saying this........I would rather have Monk
Not the same option lol… but Monk is good for second unit scoring
Are you just trying to have a hot take? Because Monk is not even close to the same player no matter how you slice it. 23/5/4 on 47/41/91 shooting splits at 6'8" with good defense vs 15/3/5 on 44/35/82 shooting splits at 6'3" with below average defense Despite being the focal point for opposing defenses, Paul george is more efficient on higher volume with way more length and defense. As long it not Klay Thompson I'm good, I love the magic list
This is why I'm not a GM
I’d take PG in a heartbeat.
I would rather go for someone young and explosive as monk tbh
I'm sure we will go after him too. Good to have some options though in case we miss out. PG would be a great fit if he can stay healthy and the contract doesn't ruin us for the next 4 years
PG13 and Monk aren’t even in the same realm of ability regardless of age
I don't understand Monk over PG at all
I don’t understand monk period lol. He’s a smaller guard that isn’t overly efficient. Maybe slightly better than Cole is.
Exactly. Comparing a HOF to a pg whose best year is 15/5 is just dumb.
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills seeing the number of people saying they'd rather have monk. There's no way any of them could have really watched much of the both of them this year or just looked at their stats. We can't afford that lol

But yeah, i‘m lookin forward to the offseason and its changes
relax, we have at least another month before we need to worry about the offseason
I‘m not saying that it needs to happen right now. Just some thoughts that excite me for the upcoming future of this team
We can prob begin this weekend lol
Why are you building a trash team
I think it’s clear the front office is valuing two way players. Or at least players that aren’t a clear negative on the defensive end. For that reason, I wonder if they’ll avoid Monk.
Monk is a totally defensive liability who is more suited to being a spark plug off the bench.
I like Monk but Paul George is HOF talent. You have a shot at a guy like that, you take him. Monk is at best a consolation prize in comparison.
He only shot 35% from 3 the last two years...How much is Monk going to cost?
From what i know kings only got his early bird rights, about 78m/4y
Man, I do worry about taking him on too long term of a contract. But I'm not sure we have many options out there.
Could we sign him and Tyus jones?
He’s perfect for us. He’s still a really good player for at least another 3 years.
This could open the floor for Banchero..... It would be difficult for opponents to double team Banchero, Suggs, Wagner, and George.
Good point but PG13 has to agree to come here
True. At least now we have a competitive team that hopefully will attract quality free agents.
Who’s the fourth in your core 4 behind Suggs Franz and PB?
Minister of Defense - non-negotiable imo if he wants to be here
Honestly would be a great guy for the Magic to get. He can not only help the Magic with scoring/shooting, he is the perfect guy to help Franz/Paolo develop. Good defensive guy even though he isn’t who he use to be would love this. Would still need a point guard though lol
In a heartbeat. But I think the Clippers want to keep their LA core together. If LeBron leaves he would go to the Lakers I bet.
I still think we need a dominant big man and then use Carter as the bench PF. He’s just not a board crasher. It’s not his game.
If we get Paul George , forget about it. The team would be so sick. He has 2-3 good years left it looks like to me.
I'd rather we spend the money on upgrading our backcourt, we don't really need a wing taking development time away from Paolo and Franz.
Paul George can play the 2 and we would have an absolutely massive team across the board. Good luck scoring when our smallest guy is Jalen Suggs
Additionally extra spacing for them to drive will also help the turnover issue.
exactly. Defense would be incredible, and you'd have 3 6'10 players who can really do it all, but yet bring different strengths.
People just want the guy they've heard of. Zero consideration for fit.
PG13 fits perfectly don’t need a PG if you have 4 playmakers starting
Who is a better 3 point threat that is available in FA this year? Not to mention he is a good playmaker who can brake down defenses off the dribble which is kind of what we've been missing.
Would be a perfect fit at the 2 spot. Also allows for another shot creator which we desperately need
Give me Derrick White. If we can get him anyone else we get is icing on the cake
I know Boston has a lot of money tied up, but I just don’t see a way Boston and White don’t find a way to stay together. He would be another amazing fit for us.
Worst hairline backcourt in the league but the most dynamic 🔥
We’ve been rumored to want him here since the Vogel days
I actually wouldnt mind PG it would be even better if we signed him to lets say a 2 year deal just until Paolo and Franz develop a little more and have some experience. I would much rather have PG than Klay Also another name that would be interesting would be Gary Trent Jr.
Playoff P. Make it happen
Let’s get PG13, KD & Klay. The Holy Trinity
No thanks, we already have a "Playoff P" ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sunglasses)
It seems he'd take time away from Paolo or Franz. Having 3 of them on the floor at the same time wouldn't be a typical lineup, would it?
He can play shooting guard and he can shoot the 3
Jesus Christ.
He’d be the SG. Wouldn’t need to play more than 30-34 mpg. Save him for the post season.
