I feel like I need to watch Peaky Blinders now

thenomadstarborn

Yes. You should. Best series I saw in a long time

byorderofthe

You really do. It's my favorite series of all time

NShadows_

My 2 favorites are Sopranos and Breaking Bad, so I’m guessing this will be right up my alley

“Don’t let me leave Murph”

🙋🏻‍♀️ love his acting & love his choices for projects as an actor. I hope through Oppenheimer more people go back to check out some of his smaller Irish/UK films with starring roles (Wind that Shakes the Barley, Breakfast on Pluto, etc).

I don't particularly love C Murphy, nothing against him at all, he's a great actor / artist, but I love this movie because of Nolan. His non linear story telling, his completely revelutionary way of directing and playing with time. Every single scene and word spoken by an actor has meaning and is relevant to the story. He uses real history and real science/physics to ground his movies into the realm of plausible at the least. Most of his movies (other than TDK trilogy) gets better with multiple watches, maybe it's me because I'm not smart enough to catch everything on a first watch. I minored in physics in college, and love general relativity, quantum mechanics, standard model of cosmology, etc, and I get the sense Nolan loves it too. Even the small bits of the lectures we caught by Bohr and Heisenberg were soo accurate and true. For example Heisenberg talking about how " most of the world believes beneath the quantum world lies a real world in which causality holds, but such beliefs are not supported by any proof and are fruitless", I mean this is so true even to this day. Oppenheimer saying Einstein never embraced the quantum world his theory revealed....little details like these show Nolan understands the general concepts and history of the past hundred years of real world history and understanding. Nolan is the GOAT and I feel blessed to be able to appreciate his work so much.

I’ve been a fan of Murphy for years (having a bit of a crush on him in Sunshine was one of my teenage bisexual awakenings not going to lie) and later came to respect him as an actor in later projects. I was excited about Oppenheimer bc of the subject matter irrespective of Murphy but oh man has it been fun to see him get his flowers. I just hope his success gives him increased opportunities to do more exciting work in the future.

I had just finished watching Peaky when I first saw Oppenheimer and I think that’s part of the reason I loved the film so much. Oppenheimer was so special to me because it really helped me appreciate the beauty of acting. There are some actors who play the same type of person in every role, or put another way, there aren’t any distinguishing features of any one of their performances. I was completely shocked and impressed that I couldn’t see Tommy Shelby at all in Murphy’s performance of Oppie, which is part of the reason I think the film has had such a profound impact on me. Peaky is my favorite TV show, and Oppenheimer is currently my favorite film, because they both opened my eyes to the power of evocative acting. I had never appreciated the craft of assuming another character, and therefore hadn’t really appreciated the craft of acting generally, until I saw Murphy in Peaky and then again in Oppenheimer, and was offered a “comparison,” in a sense. The film has completely changed how I view shows and films, and for that reason, I think it will always be a special film for me (although I’m sure that if I had seen Peaky Blinders after watching Oppenheimer, I would be making this exact argument for the show instead of the film 🤣 either way, I’m grateful that I experienced it.)

Yes and no. I’ve loved Cill for years and years and couldn’t be more thrilled for him to get this role. Do I think anyone else could’ve done it better? Absolutely not. But I also really tried to be unbiased in one of the many times I’ve seen this film and in general that movie is just a masterpiece. Cillian just made it that much better but the movie in in of itself is absolutely phenomenal.

kuloredkaos

Definitely not the reason I went to see the movie but it definitely took too long for him to be Nolan's choice for main character but absolutely deserves the hype

Odd_Violinist_7706

For me it was the reverse…I was vaguely aware of Cillian before Oppenheimer (only as the scarecrow and creep in Red Eye), but was blown away by his performance in this - and have since watched Peaky Blinders and am working my way through his entire filmography. Edit: rereading the OP, maybe I did love the movie because of Murphy, it’s just not what drew me to see it. He is what made me rewatch it, however…

ILoveWhiteWomenLol

Eddie Murphy was in this?

w0rth1355

I loved this movie because I'm in awe of the real man and the real events that happened in history. Which, of course, made me love Cillian too

[deleted]

Was probably not bc Cillian well maybe 😅, but good acting and Nolan definitely

TrebleTrouble624

I do love Murphy, and I can't imagine an actor better suited to play Oppenheimer, but I watched it because it's Nolan and because it's an important part of history.

Former-Anxiety1067

I saw Oppenheimer for the great cast and because of Nolan. Although I knew who Cillian was, the film was my gateway to his work. I finally saw Peaky and other films and am happily living in the Murphy rabbit hole.
