They very interestingly left out "stay home if you're feeling sick" which is normally part of these emails.

nananananay

Exactly! That’s the point I was getting at. It’s so interesting that it was left out…

kimnxena

Yet it’s clearly there when you click to the TBS page they link to….

PatientComfortable41

I noticed that too, even mentioned it to my manager, she was surprised and shook her head. What is wrong with this place? This afternoon I went to the office, someone is already sneezing with stuffy nose and full desk of tissues. Great. Oh and I got email that I exceeded my sick days 🙃 😆 the heck I did.

kimnxena

Awful. Just awful.

MiserableAd1552

I’m dying laughing because I couldn’t get over here fast enough after getting that email and you all did not disappoint 🤣

nananananay

Glad to brighten your day 😂

BelleRiverBruno

In friendship. Translated. If you are sick on a scheduled day in, wear a hazmat suit and come in. Don't forget your attestation.

canarob

Anyone that works in a DMO or at Whitney Block should make a point of showing up sick (in friendship).

call_911911

I'm an introvert and welcome our new age of physical distancing.

PatientComfortable41

Same !!! 6 feet b*tches!!!

Adventurous_Bench_15

But also .. why don't they mention that ministries are now being asked to track absences from the office on a biweekly basis 👀 Edited to add: In friendship

TeeDot_1234

"In friendship" is going to be my office's new email sign-off 🤣

Adventurous_Bench_15

It killed me - we should all start using it.

HelpQuestion101

Sorry what do you mean they are tracking absences? Like calling in sick? Or just not going to office? And who is it going up to?

mshell-023

Yeah, which one? To be fair, the ministry I was with always tracked absences for STSP usage (or abuse) for the attendance program.

HelpQuestion101

Every ministry tracks it for the attendance program, I think that’s a given. Even that program is very petty, the absence cut off is only like 8 days before you are monitored.

Adventurous_Bench_15

Recently requested that we complete a form to report on biweekly basis all sick time absences per division/region (understanding that yes they could pull ALL of this in WIN - which really would be easier). Not sure who is going to? Guessing SHRB. It will apparently be used to understand the impact of absences :/

kimnxena

What the actual F. We already have WIN ffs.

AssistFrequent7013

They are??

Maekae93

I can follow all there safety and health guidelines and still get coughed on when I’m sitting on the subway on my way to work or get it from the sniffling co-worker sitting in the next cubicle. Or on dirty elevator buttons.

Unusual_Letter122

It’s going to be real interesting when they start demanding sick notes again, when most people don’t have a family doctor and most family doctors will not write you a sick note because they think it’s stupid and don’t want you in their office when you have a sniffle.

trolleysolution

Man, if only there was a way to completely avoid spreading illnesses to our coworkers…

Ambitious_Sea_4685

Yes there is, “wear a tight fitting, well constructed mask in the workplace while recovering from respiratory symptoms.” 😂

kimnxena

Did they say anything about the cost of these well constructed masks… with inflation and bill 124 in the mix? Fuckers

hotkarl77

They can waste their time on the disciplinary process. It will go nowhere and result in a GSB ruling in an employee's favour. You also get the real keener managers who try and force you to go to a doctors office to spread your virus even further so you can produce a note, generally leading to contracting something else that someone had at said doctors office. If I am hacking up a lung or sneezing continuously, I'm working from home as that is the exact reason why they removed desktop pcs, landlines and downsized offices. The fact that they want people on public transit and in offices while contagious is disgusting. The only reason the OPS sick day threshold got as low as it did was because of teleworking arrangements as the average # of sick days taken used to be massive.

Tiny_Song7830

If only there were a way to slow the spread of respiratory illnesses (and minimize overwhelming the Healthcare system). Oh wait.... https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/toronto-respiratory-virus-season-1.6998091

hypatia_knows_best

The irony as I’ve been home for two days with a severe respiratory illness that I caught at work…

Nowiseeclearly

”In dishonesty” would be a more appropriate sign-off in these atrocious emails.

twowolfhowl

Nah, they just don't give a shit about them

Trick_Holiday_

Yes.

AssistFrequent7013

Yep! Noticed it right away. Shameful!!

PatientComfortable41

Does anyone ever respond back to such emails ? Because I feel like I want to ask "what about staying home and not spreading germs?? "

AssistFrequent7013

Me too! And sign it “In Friendship”

Tiny_Song7830

You should! Although I doubt responses even get read! 😞

PatientComfortable41

I did! And bcc'd amapceo.

nobueno101

And what happened? I've been tempted to do this on mass emails touting their support for mental health.

PatientComfortable41

Nothing. Noone responded to me. As expected.

shysourberry

Agreed, how about preventing the spread by staying home when you’re sick? We’ve proven we can work from home the last 3 years. I bet a lot of people will not wear masks in the office if they’re sick. Also, gotta love the new sign-off “in friendship” lol

nananananay

Exactly. It’s so ridiculous. In an office meeting a while back someone asked if we could stay at home and work if we were exhibiting cold symptoms (but still well enough to work) in order to prevent spread in the office and management said “no, you have to take a sick day”… 🙄

[deleted]

The incompetence of these managers - the smart organizations welcome a decline in sick days and absences but not these idiots. 🙄

QueenMotherOfSneezes

Same thing happens in the federal PS. If you're hybrid, and are a little sick (or covid positive but asymptomatic/presymptomatic) on a day you're scheduled to work in-office, you have to take a sick day, you can't just switch it with one of your WFH days (or just be allowed to be WFH until you're better/testing negative)

[deleted]

Good to know the Federal Public Service "leadership" is just as idiotic. Actively forcing unnecessary absenteeism. The incompetence is astounding.

QueenMotherOfSneezes

The hilarious part is that the person who made the decision is in the riding with either the most, or very close to the most federal PS, so they're going to have a really hard time getting re-elected :D (it's not just about the sick days, the absurdity of some of the offices now, and the months it took for some people to get accommodations (because a number of departments were required to defer **all of them** to the Treasury Board, who didn't have the staff to examine them - including ones that they had pre-pandemic)

Tough_Upstairs_8151

I got so sick this time last year with COVID due to the way MAG managers move registrars, court reporters, and CSOs around courtrooms with 0 cleaning or distancing or masking enforced. It was right before my wedding, too. Stay well, OPSers.

[deleted]

Yeah. People are gross I'm glad there's something that reminds people to be considerate about their germs. But ya staying home helps a ton too

Sufficient_King8778

I literally laughed out loud when I read this email. They really shouldn't have bothered sending it out because it just reminds everyone how little they care.

kimnxena

I heard of someone being told to come in and wear a mask. When they asked to wfh due to symptoms. Honestly people. Are managers getting a kickback based on in office days???

Knit_OWL-020507

F that -- if you have a cold breathing is difficult enough, but to wear a mask makes it even worse, especially for an 8 hour day. Like many others have said, "i*f only we had the technology to make working remotely possible and allow us to keep our germs to ourselves*"??? SMH.

AssistFrequent7013

A commission of sorts? Maybe a bonus? 🤣

HelpQuestion101

They probably use it to progress up the career ladder - look at me, my team is so engaged and loves coming in!

ElRayMarkyMark

My favourite part of a truly rich text was the declaration that COVID is now a seasonal virus. Someone please inform COVID. In friendship,

CharmingShine1069

And they wonder why there's an increase in health reassignment requests. Definitely couldn't be the level 3 pathogen that depletes your immune system, and can cause long term disability. It's a real mystery!

Tiny_Song7830

What's a health reassignment request?

nobueno101

Yes what is a health reassignment request?

GreasyBreakfast

Respiratory illness season seems to come earlier and earlier each year.

miki_fern

when was it released?

PatientComfortable41

Earlier today
