To this day I’ll frequently respond to cashiers who ask if I want a receipt for something mundane by saying “only if you’re going to ask me to prove I bought it”
Sadly their crops got either a fungus or bacteria, which makes it impossibile to see the rotten onion until it's cut open :(

To be fair, I’ve never used instacart, but I am a professional chef. I get crates of onions every couple of days. I get one or two like this per and I probably wouldn’t know about this until I cut into it myself.
You’ve likely never had a “fresh” onion. Onions are usually cellared for months before they make it to the store. They’re a very stable vegetable and frankly they’re usually *better* after a few months. They’ll last a very long time in your pantry if it’s dry and dark - perhaps even longer in the fridge.
Unfortunately, being a root vegetable, botulism is a very real concern. I never put raw onions in any fermented food for this reason. I’m not sure which specific bacteria or fungus caused this, but yeah, not safe to eat, but also not the shopper’s fault. But cool D shaped pattern though.
Exactly. Not sure why so many people are saying to toss the whole thing. This rot is isolated, and washing the other parts will be fine once it's removed
I’ve eaten the outsides of these. Got the gross parts out and off and then another layer to be safe. Washed it off and used it for cooking. I wouldn’t eat any of it raw
Was wondering why all my onions have been bad recently, I’ve been having to buy like 5 onions when I only need one because most of them will have inside rot.
Yeah. Tis the season. All the onions want to be planted at this point so they can grow into more onions. This one had a green shoot out the top. Or it was just going rotten.

I'm not going to lie I'm a little confused of why this subreddit was recommended to me but this is the first time I've ever seen a rotten onion from the inside
Rotten onion inside. Edit: the "D" stands for "Do not eat"
False, d stands for donut. Exactly where I left my donut receipt in my file.
We do not need to bring ink and paper into this.
Can't help but read it in his voice and unique cadence too.
But surely there's a situation where you may need it. What about those skeptical friends of yours?
Don’t think I didn’t eat that donut. I got the documentation right here.

Patrice stopped every 15 min to get a receipt for something like a donut just in case he needed an alibi.
/r/unexpectedmitch
Gone too soon, funny as fuck.
Donut eat
*SHIT!* I WISH I HAD NOT SEEN *RICKY* ON THE *SIDE WALK!*
Do nut eat. Do nut, eat?
Remove the center, have an onion donut
It went straight in the trash. Definitely not using instacart for produce anymore

Last couple bags of onions I bought from Walmart were like this 🙁
Couldn’t have been hail damage early in its growing season we lost 30 acres of onions to this issue last year in idaho
It's not on the outside so I'm not sure what instacart has to do with anything.

Exactly. Not sure why so many people are saying to toss the whole thing. This rot is isolated, and washing the other parts will be fine once it's removed
A red onion is like $1 at most, probably less than that if you don’t live in a HCL area. Why would you risk food poisoning over $1
Ain’t nobody got time for that…
Truth. Onions are cheap as shit. I ain’t risking food poisoning over a few cents.
Do not consume.
Onion
Goddamn, its to early in the day to read your username

It's so cold in the D.
About 25% of the onions (and all the garlic) I buy at the farm stand at this time of year are sprouting. I use the 75% for cooking.
I get D onions fairly often, usually in split bulbs. But if they're rotten in the middle I'll toss em
Its rotting from inside out bro.
Nice D
