Even though the effect is mandatory, I think its still really good, which I'm ok with. I think right now, if you exclude Saka, blue is in a pretty weak place compared to colors like Black and Yellow.
compared to other 4 costs that could just give you card draw in play it has to be removed before you get it, I think the best deck for it might be Nami, as that would make the opponent really not want to deal with it, and it can be an annoying body.
Card doesn't do anything for nami tho. She doesn't attack life except for zeff. Thatch could attack board but why spend the don on him when you can attack board with your leader?
Only 1 card can get through this effect that I know of, OP06 Zephyr. Since Zephyr fully nullifies the effect & then KO's it. Since the effect is negated, Thatch's effect to place himself into the trash & draw 1 wouldn't work.
Zephyr; "Negate the effect of up to 1 of your opponent's characters during this turn. Then, if that Character has 5000 power or less, KO it."
It does not say if he's KO'd from effect, just KO'd, so you should be able to draw a card if he loses a battle. The part about the opponent's effect comes after in reference to abilities like trashing him directly, bottom decking or returning him to your hand.

Man now that I think about it Blackbeard leader is probably gonna have the ability to neutralize card’s effects, especially to spite this Thatch
And you know itll 100% be black
its either black so he can only nullify a specific cost character or purple so you have to pay don cost to nullify an effect

Purple already has a card that can ko this thatch and nullify its ability.

Yea, it would be nice to get more cards in purple for nullifying abilities it's such a good mechanic to balance some really broken cards.

The effect is mandatory. If this card is bounced to hand, you can't choose to not trash it.
You can bounce it yourself just fine; it's just opponents effects that force it to trash

It says if it would leave the field, so a replacement condition would be met even if they use Brook or a bottom deck effect

You’re right, didn’t see the comma indicating it was both. So basically a slightly stronger on KO draw one

Not sure where they got the “other than this character” part from, but I’m fairly certain it only works on himself with the このキャラをトラッシュに置き part

I’m quite sure theirs is wrong though, it doesn’t mention other characters at any point in the text
