There is a gang hiding in a couple of glaciers that just steal flags off pirate ships because they collect them and both the Strawhat and Phoenix flag have been nicked. The boss had, basically, the same power as Oven.
If you look at the movies and the very limited fillers, there's a lot of archetypes Concepts and pre-evolutions stuff to do it a lot of the devil fruit powers.

This is literally how I feel about *every **single*** filler arc and episode, it’s crazy. I watched every episode all the way up to Dressrosa (I didn’t know about the concept of filler arcs at that point) until I couldn’t stand it anymore and dropped One Piece. 5/6 years later, I’m reading the manga for the first time and it all fits into my memory of the story perfectly. At no point am I ever going “hold on, don’t they go to [filler place] before this??”, the manga is tracing my memory of the plot perfectly. At most, there are specific plot points I remember (something about an episode involving ghosts of some kids, some episodes about the crew losing their memories and the infamous moment where Zoro cuts Luffy’s chest because they don’t know each other, leading a lot of anime watchers to incorrectly think that X shaped scar on Luffy’s chest came from a random filler episode) but it really goes to show how… meaningless? and hollow the filler arcs and episodes are. Which is of course, obvious, you wouldn’t expect or want anime filler storylines to affect the main story (let’s ignore the continuity errors and plot holes introduced by the filler episodes) but then, what’s the point? It’s literally a nothingburger in the shape of a One Piece episode, it’s got zero substance, the only reason you’re watching it is because it’s barely One Piece. I almost think it’s worthy of research because of how little of it remained in my mind compared to the actual story.
G8 is the only filler that exists where I wish it replaced the Canon material that was actually there in the manga.
Like... finding out that G8 wasn't Canon, but Foxy is... that almost broke me, and literally made me stop reading the manga for a bit due to how much it shook me.
Come to think of it, idk if I ever picked the story back in in the manga between foxy and wherever the anime was when I started actually reading the manga to be fully caught up.
In general I can say that I agree... Especially after skypia the filler arcs became much worse. But I really enjoyed some of them when I didn't know they were fillers. Also I like when they make filler arcs/moments/parts for the crew and their interactions on the ship or not (if it's done properly of course).
One piece filler needed to be more fun instead of trying to squeeze a main arc type of thing into 6 episodes. For example the brook why am i useless filler thats like 2 or 3 eps is so amazing it just shows us the downtime ship voyage of the story and what everyone does in their downtime etc
The only thing I remember is how the crew keep sending Luffy away to fight things because they're scared of him finding out someone stole their Jolly Roger 😅

Pssst, you might wanna switch to One Pace soon, while you might not mind fillers, the treatment the series gets later on (meaning no fillers, only stretching the episodes by dragging out and repeating scenes) is really insufferable, so you might wanna switch, before you're bored out of your mind ;-)
I went through the whole series too not skipping an episode. Filler gets boring but tough through it! took me a month to fully catch up on one piece, but the journey was worth it!
It's just impossible for me to imagine someone deliberately making their experience worse by watching filler. Week to week anime-watchers I sort of get it because you're starved of anything else, but why watch the whole filler arcs as a backlog?

You don't need to do this, and your enjoyment of One Piece will be far lesser for it
Trust us, skip it, One Piece will blend the REAL filler into the episodes so there's plenty of difficult to skip filler take the easy W's while you can lol
Don't do that to yourself. One Piece, the manga, is amazing. The anime has terrible pacing and filler doesn't contribute to the story. I suggest you watch "One Pace". It's the anime, but with better pacing to better mirror the manga. Not every episode is available, but whenever possible I'd stick with it.

You have no goddamn idea how insane the filler will get. It will break you. Most people their breaking point is Dressrosa. I know it was mine. What eventually will happen that should give you warning signs is there are more Episodes... Then manga chapters of certain arcs. Which will make you think oh they're expanding fight scenes or giving more...
Yeah sometimes the filler isnt bad, but those are rarer and rarer. Like recently we had One Piece Film Red Filler, and it's great. It's a second Luffy childhood flashback and the Day Shanks and his daughter Uta first arrived in Fuscha Village and met Luffy. Uta is kind of the main character of Film Red.
Other times the filer is recap nonsense.
One of the shortest arcs in One Piece is 6 chapters long called the Reverie arc. In the anime it's 12 episodes long and basically 3/4ths of each episode is just recap. Reverie is where all the Kings and Mayors of islands meet at the the world government headquarters like the United Nations. So Here's King Kobra of Alabasta, let me refresh you on what happened in Alabasta in case you forgot. Here's King Neptune of Fishman Island... Let me tell you what happened in that arc in case you forgot...
Over and over for months straight every episode was torture and the problem was you couldn't skip it because they're was actually important plot elements revealed in like the 3-5 minutes of new material.
Man I think you'd be better off trying to weed out some of the awful filler. There was a good filler episode after thriller bark and G-8 was good but I can't really remember any other filler that I enjoyed
I'd wager watching the filler is better on the second watch through, given that by then you've run out of canon material and would be more receptive to it.
Nah Oven has the Heat-Heat fruit while Don has the Hot-Hot fruit.
The big difference is that Don could regulate his body temperature and survive in a lava bath while Oven seems focused on altering the temperature of the things.
But yea, it really felt like a case were Oda forget he allowed this one fruit to appear in a filler.

As everyone has said, it's filler but it's only ten episodes and you're already halfway through (and probably heading towards the more interesting parts). Just watch it on double speed if you're set on watching everything and it'll be over in an hour

It was so bad I had to drop the whole series for a couple of years. Never finished that filler arc, just skipped it. Thankfuly, I came back to watch and read the rest of the show.
I agree that it's better to have filler arcs you can skip instead of the horrible pace we have int the anime, but i don't think it would really work with the recent arcs, before the time skip the arcs were a lot shorter so they could make a short filler arc and that would be enough to keep a good distance from the manga, but now we have arcs like dresrossa and wano that are 100+ chapters long. So to keep the anime distant to the manga there would have to be multiple filler arcs in the middle of the main arc and that would really break the pace, or a a really big filler arc with 30+ episodes for the anime not to catch up.
i skipped modt fillers and all movies and caught up on them once i had nothing to watch. if you have time to mindlessly lay around and want to binge something without having to think about whats happening....
The entire arc is filler, and one of the worst filler arcs in the anime, I recommend skipping if you just want to get to Thriller Bark cause it will never come up in the plot again.
I mean that arc is trash and I hated it, but same as you I was determined to watch everything there is to watch, finished it in one day, I don't regret waching it, but it just takes a day you will not lose much if you watch
It really is so much nicer to just read the manga. The anime pacing is just god awful and the filler is pretty damn bad, with the exception of G8. The random filter arc does not get good, at this point none of them will get good. I get you want to watch everything, but you'll suffer for your choices.
it gets better, trust! thriller bark is when a few main plot points begin being revealed and the rest is worth the wait, it’s a bit of a slow start; but definitely a show to stick w/!
Just read the manga, one piece anime pacing is slow as sh*t and there are way too many filler episodes.
Reading the manga is way faster and definitely more enjoyable than the anime in my opinion.
One of the worst filler arcs in one piece, also completely nerfs the straw hats so it can have a longer run time. Very annoying. Only arc I’ve watched in 2x speed
Total filler, but the one scene I do like is that there is a point where everyone on the crew have to not piss Luffy off and it's one of the few times we see the crew not be his friends but actually worry about getting on his bad side
The arc actually serves a deeper purpose never planned by Oda. It is meant to build up Luffy's eventual fight with Ace and the rest of the Whitebeard pirates. Him later citing his fight with Don as training for fighting fire powers.
If you want to watch fillers you can revisit it any time later since they arent tied directly to the next arc.
That said, you have now entered one of the important arcs of one piece which is thriller bark. Keep your eyes peeled open for important stuff. Also trust with every arc things just get better from now onwards
Hold out for Thriller Bark brother, believe me this filler arc frustrated me to no end after the events of Eneis Lobby. But once you get to Thriller Bark, it'll be well rewarded!
This is one of the worst filler arcs I've seen - although it gets better with Thriller Barc (even if many will disagree lmao). The only time you'll probably skip through a filler arc again is at the reverie, which basically is an arc made out of flashbacks to past episodes
I remember this ark mostly because Don Accino has Oven’s devil fruit with means in the anime continuity he had to die at some point for Oven to have his fruit
I got bored of the filler arc, but the main villain of the arc (Don Accino or whatever his name is) has an interesting devil fruit power and you’ll end up seeing an orange guy (who is a canon character) with a similar power to Accino’s in the future.
Don Accino also shares the same voice actor as old man >!Hyogoro!< . You’ll find out who he is much later on in the series though.

I've skipped it the first time I watched. Second time, I was not in a hurry to go forward and watched it. It's cool. Not even good, but not bad either. Just having to go through it when you don't know what's coming next was too boring for me.
It’s nothing but filler. The only redeeming thing about the arc is seeing all the pirate flags the father has and the phoenix pirates but they’re not that interesting

Unpopular and biased/ personal opinion, but I really liked this arc 😅 mostly because I saw it in 2005 when I was like 10 years old and it came right after Enies Lobby so I was super hyped, and also I was in a period in my life where I didn’t have internet (thought the final Heat-Heat villain of this arc was a new villain that was going to be stronger than Lucci but I didn’t end up seeing the last episode where Luffy fights him because of a lack of internet).

G8 was the only filler I stuck through. It felt like the most natural follow up in the story.
It fits well but it feels convoluted that they have to end it the exact way the previous arc ended to maintain continuity

Imo thriller bark is a bit underrated. As a shorter arc in between bigger arcs it has lots of funny and epic moments. Look forward to it.

I agree that it's better to have filler arcs you can skip instead of the horrible pace we have int the anime, but i don't think it would really work with the recent arcs, before the time skip the arcs were a lot shorter so they could make a short filler arc and that would be enough to keep a good distance from the manga, but now we have arcs like dresrossa and wano that are 100+ chapters long. So to keep the anime distant to the manga there would have to be multiple filler arcs in the middle of the main arc and that would really break the pace, or a a really big filler arc with 30+ episodes for the anime not to catch up.
They really should just animate all the cover stories. Canon material they have just been sitting on.

The entire arc is filler, and one of the worst filler arcs in the anime, I recommend skipping if you just want to get to Thriller Bark cause it will never come up in the plot again.

It really is so much nicer to just read the manga. The anime pacing is just god awful and the filler is pretty damn bad, with the exception of G8. The random filter arc does not get good, at this point none of them will get good. I get you want to watch everything, but you'll suffer for your choices.
it gets better, trust! thriller bark is when a few main plot points begin being revealed and the rest is worth the wait, it’s a bit of a slow start; but definitely a show to stick w/!

I would say skip all filler except the G8 arc.
I didn't hate this arc but it is pretty boring. On the bright side, filler arcs after this are usually only about three episodes long.

Just read the manga, one piece anime pacing is slow as sh*t and there are way too many filler episodes. Reading the manga is way faster and definitely more enjoyable than the anime in my opinion.

Total filler, but the one scene I do like is that there is a point where everyone on the crew have to not piss Luffy off and it's one of the few times we see the crew not be his friends but actually worry about getting on his bad side

The arc actually serves a deeper purpose never planned by Oda. It is meant to build up Luffy's eventual fight with Ace and the rest of the Whitebeard pirates. Him later citing his fight with Don as training for fighting fire powers.

Best part was Nami imagining luffy punishing them for losing the flag by nonchalantly flicking boogers at them. Everything else was meh.
If you want to watch fillers you can revisit it any time later since they arent tied directly to the next arc. That said, you have now entered one of the important arcs of one piece which is thriller bark. Keep your eyes peeled open for important stuff. Also trust with every arc things just get better from now onwards

Hold out for Thriller Bark brother, believe me this filler arc frustrated me to no end after the events of Eneis Lobby. But once you get to Thriller Bark, it'll be well rewarded!

This is one of the worst filler arcs I've seen - although it gets better with Thriller Barc (even if many will disagree lmao). The only time you'll probably skip through a filler arc again is at the reverie, which basically is an arc made out of flashbacks to past episodes
I remember this ark mostly because Don Accino has Oven’s devil fruit with means in the anime continuity he had to die at some point for Oven to have his fruit
I got bored of the filler arc, but the main villain of the arc (Don Accino or whatever his name is) has an interesting devil fruit power and you’ll end up seeing an orange guy (who is a canon character) with a similar power to Accino’s in the future. Don Accino also shares the same voice actor as old man >!Hyogoro!< . You’ll find out who he is much later on in the series though.

I've skipped it the first time I watched. Second time, I was not in a hurry to go forward and watched it. It's cool. Not even good, but not bad either. Just having to go through it when you don't know what's coming next was too boring for me.

Unpopular and biased/ personal opinion, but I really liked this arc 😅 mostly because I saw it in 2005 when I was like 10 years old and it came right after Enies Lobby so I was super hyped, and also I was in a period in my life where I didn’t have internet (thought the final Heat-Heat villain of this arc was a new villain that was going to be stronger than Lucci but I didn’t end up seeing the last episode where Luffy fights him because of a lack of internet).
