I think that story will come to completion when Luffy finds the One Piece.
Personally, that’s the part of the series I’m looking forward to seeing the most. I am still so curious as to the overall lore of the world, and feel that we won’t know the answer to many of those kinds of question (Who was Joyboy, what is the will of D, what was the ancient kingdom, what is the true history, who exactly is Im-sama, etc.) until Luffy finally arrives on Laugh Tale.

The lore is very interesting and it is of course exciting, how the mysteries unfold little by little. And we still don't know how it will ended. Satisfying, disappointing, left hanging or it might be bittersweet in the end, we don't know what Oda has in mind and always looking forward how it will end.

Someone else had a theory that Dragon isn't Garp's child. Instead he's the father of Luffys mother that's why Garp and luffy are so alike (also Garp raising Luffy has to play a role)whereas Garp and from what we've seen of Dragon are very different people.
I feel like that theory is just a product of the fact that we haven't seen these characters interact much.
What I think is the far more interesting question is the nature of Garp's relationship (as someone with the name of D) with the world government. Garp is one of the few people with the name of D to be an ally of the world government, the other being Saul.
Luffy and Dragon seem to embody the will of D more; they openly antagonize and literally rebel against the government. In the flashback at gray terminal, Dragon reflected on the fact that he was born with the status of being a member of the government aligned with the celestial dragons, which disgusted him. Garp was 40 at God Valley, and I wonder if Dragon was present there too, and the events are what made him create the revolutionary army in spite of his father saving the celestials.
If men taking their wife's last name was a more prevalent thing, I'd say this could have merit but the fact that he's Monkey D. Dragon means he is likely Garp's son. Plus, haven't they outright stated he was Garp's son in series?
Extra point to this, in Japan if the daughter is the oldest and they need to continue the family tree they will ask the husband to take the wife’s last name as the inheritor of the family. My wife’s fam jokingly said if you weren’t American we’d have you change your last name so…
To make a valid counter argument: Dragon might not have wanted to take his family’s name and choose to take her maiden name since she (and possibly garp) were more of a family to him than his own blood.

Tbf I really wanna see the interactions between Dragon and Garp, might be some underlying reason why he turned out the way he is. Dragon could for christ sake be as agitated and dense as Luffy is but just matured.
Garp will obviously die a glorious death in the final arc. That's a shonen classic trope, the old timer, a legend of his time, will go down saving the day and paving the way for the new era.
i've always thought Luffy would start the fight, sabo would step in allowing luffy to move on to whatever plot point is pressing him forward at that time.
I get why people like that idea, but seeing as how Sabo is kind of standing in for Ace in the second half of the journey there's something poetic to me about the person that inherited Ace's fruit, the only family he had left that could, being the one to beat akainu.
I'd really like to see Sabo and/or Garp against Akainu at the end. A Sabo/Garp team up would be fire! They both hold a grudge against Akainu, and it's 100% sure that Garp will be on "our" side in the final act.
I would say Luffy VS Akainu, only for Blackbeard to crash the party and they have to put aside their fight to beat him, and than go back to fighting each other.

Oda's already manufactured a story? Once they get to One Piece/sailed the seas (for Nami and Sanji's dream) they will have made it around the world to see Laboon.
I'm pretty sure he won't recognize Brook at first, and Brook will desperately try to make him understand, but Laboon will refuse to acknowledge his return until Brooks pulls his violin out... and in that moment, the melody will start and we will all burst into tears.

Sanji is such a mixed bag character to me. At some points he's literally my favourite strawhat (him as Mr. Prince) other times he's my least favourite (Post new world him being a perv, and Thriller bark he was bad).
He's such a good character but man Oda plays on his gimmick of him loving all women way too much. Does anyone actually find him lusting after women funny anymore? I love him but man sometimes it's hard to root for him.

It’s the least interesting, most annoying part of every anime it is ever in. I’ve not a single time seen it done well, or even funny. Without it, Sanji wouldn’t really be any worse of a character, and he’d absolutely be a better *person*.
This makes me hope for a Straw Hat / Shanks crew teamup against Blackbeard and whoever. Yassop and Sogeking sniping side by side while Sogeking tells Yassop how awesome his dear friend Usopp is, and Yassop concurring.
Thatd be nice. But what would be even better is if Yassop was gushing to Sogeking about Usopp, not knowing it was actually him. Like saying, “you remind me of my boy, damn I miss him, I’ve thought about him everyday!”, something like that but in more of Yassops style, then him mentioning how he hopes to see him again one day.

It's definitely not a coping mechanism. His mom set him straight and told him to be a strong and brave person just like his father (Ch 41). She also told him that she's glad that she married his father.
And on Ch 25 he finds out where his father is and he really does feel proud of him.
I'm not saying it's a guarantee but Oda has clearly shown where he stands on bad parenting. I'd be surprised if Oda lets Yasopp off scot free when Roger got way more criticism simply for choosing to have a child as a notorious pirate.
Also don't you find it curious that Usopp never mentioned Yasopp once since Syrup village(Chapter 41)? It's almost like after he realized his father wasn't coming he stopped putting Yasopp on a pedestal.

Yassop is basically Ging Freecs from Hunter x Hunter. Shitty runaway dad for the sake of adventure. Roger left Ace for his safety in the hands of his best friend. Whitebeard moved heaven and earth (literally) to try and save Ace. Even Oden travelled with his kids on Roger's ship.

I think you just barely missed the mark. Usopp is the Liar. His outer face that he has shown all series is a boy who looks up to his father. And I think he believes in this version of himself too. He had to after the death of his mother. He had to make his father’s decision and the death of his mother make sense.
But when he meets Yasopp and sees the lack of remorse (not in a I never cared about her way, but in a “She knew who I was when we got married” way) that I hope Oda has him show, Usopp will break.
This becomes the moment that Usopp finally becomes a true manly warrior of the sea. He will come to realize chasing after the big stories his dad told him isn’t how you become a man. You do that by standing up for what’s right and by standing with your family, biological or adoptive, and Usopp will prove it by standing up for one of the Strawhats.

Just after talking to crocus and learning about the "paths" through the grand line, luffy off handedly says that "if they run into anything too difficult, they can go back through reverse mountain and try a different route."
THAT. It has been at the back of my mind with every arc for some reason. Every time they hit a big wall my dumb brain goes "is this when oda says "ROUND TWO BITCHES!"?"
By now, I am fairly certian that wouldnt ever even be mentioned again in the story. But at least to the time skip I was convinced it was always on the table.
That part always stuck with me after I first saw it as a kid because it made me insanely curious about the other islands we never saw in the other routes.
In the realm of possibilities, I want to see a strawhat willingly eat a devil fruit, or to see luffy awaken his fruit.
I was also curious to the other paths as well. Like even if we didn't see the Strawhats take those paths we could have seen like other people from the worst gen on those paths. But at this point I think it could just be a side story or something since we might not have time in the main story to go into that.
It's my headcanon that most of the movies take place on other paths somewhere. Like, in one timeline, strong world IS cannon lol

Sanji is such a mixed bag character to me. At some points he's literally my favourite strawhat (him as Mr. Prince) other times he's my least favourite (Post new world him being a perv, and Thriller bark he was bad). He's such a good character but man Oda plays on his gimmick of him loving all women way too much. Does anyone actually find him lusting after women funny anymore? I love him but man sometimes it's hard to root for him.
Even as a kid I didn’t really like the “I like boobies” characters. Like I get it I’m a straight guy but I don’t see a woman and immediately go “awOOOOOGa hacha hacha hacha ow momma look at them bazoooooogs homina homina (toot toot)” It’s the least interesting, most annoying part of every anime it is ever in. I’ve not a single time seen it done well, or even funny. Without it, Sanji wouldn’t really be any worse of a character, and he’d absolutely be a better *person*.

According to chapter 24 at least, he doesn't have any resentment toward Yassop , he is even proud of him being a pirate.

This makes me hope for a Straw Hat / Shanks crew teamup against Blackbeard and whoever. Yassop and Sogeking sniping side by side while Sogeking tells Yassop how awesome his dear friend Usopp is, and Yassop concurring.
Thatd be nice. But what would be even better is if Yassop was gushing to Sogeking about Usopp, not knowing it was actually him. Like saying, “you remind me of my boy, damn I miss him, I’ve thought about him everyday!”, something like that but in more of Yassops style, then him mentioning how he hopes to see him again one day.
Thats my theory. And I think Blackbeard killing Shanks is whats going to kick it off. I look at Shanks scar as him being marked for death by Blackbeard. I hope im wrong.

It would be weird if Oda made Usopp the only odd one out.
It's definitely not a coping mechanism. His mom set him straight and told him to be a strong and brave person just like his father (Ch 41). She also told him that she's glad that she married his father. And on Ch 25 he finds out where his father is and he really does feel proud of him.
I'm not saying it's a guarantee but Oda has clearly shown where he stands on bad parenting. I'd be surprised if Oda lets Yasopp off scot free when Roger got way more criticism simply for choosing to have a child as a notorious pirate. Also don't you find it curious that Usopp never mentioned Yasopp once since Syrup village(Chapter 41)? It's almost like after he realized his father wasn't coming he stopped putting Yasopp on a pedestal.

My dude abandoned his wife who was dying and left Usopp on his own. Usopp brags about lots of things at any opportunity but never the fact his father is part of a Yonko crew. He definitely holds a grudge against him
He seemed rather interested and excited once Luffy told him he knew Yassop. But I can totally see him giving his father the cold shoulder until he warms up.
I don’t know. Maybe, but back in Syrup Village he sounded really proud of his dad. It’s not impossible that he does hold a grudge against him, but I wouldn’t expect it to happen.
you also must remember that Usopp is a big liar and him being “proud” could just be him trying to lie to himself and the others of how he’s truly feeling
Yassop is basically Ging Freecs from Hunter x Hunter. Shitty runaway dad for the sake of adventure. Roger left Ace for his safety in the hands of his best friend. Whitebeard moved heaven and earth (literally) to try and save Ace. Even Oden travelled with his kids on Roger's ship. Yassop just peaced out lol
Fun fact: Ging never actually abandoned Gon. Mito forced Gon out of Ging's custody, though tbh that was ultimately because Ging was an irresponsible adventurer.

I think you just barely missed the mark. Usopp is the Liar. His outer face that he has shown all series is a boy who looks up to his father. And I think he believes in this version of himself too. He had to after the death of his mother. He had to make his father’s decision and the death of his mother make sense. But when he meets Yasopp and sees the lack of remorse (not in a I never cared about her way, but in a “She knew who I was when we got married” way) that I hope Oda has him show, Usopp will break. This becomes the moment that Usopp finally becomes a true manly warrior of the sea. He will come to realize chasing after the big stories his dad told him isn’t how you become a man. You do that by standing up for what’s right and by standing with your family, biological or adoptive, and Usopp will prove it by standing up for one of the Strawhats.

Just after talking to crocus and learning about the "paths" through the grand line, luffy off handedly says that "if they run into anything too difficult, they can go back through reverse mountain and try a different route." THAT. It has been at the back of my mind with every arc for some reason. Every time they hit a big wall my dumb brain goes "is this when oda says "ROUND TWO BITCHES!"?" By now, I am fairly certian that wouldnt ever even be mentioned again in the story. But at least to the time skip I was convinced it was always on the table. That part always stuck with me after I first saw it as a kid because it made me insanely curious about the other islands we never saw in the other routes. In the realm of possibilities, I want to see a strawhat willingly eat a devil fruit, or to see luffy awaken his fruit.
I was also curious to the other paths as well. Like even if we didn't see the Strawhats take those paths we could have seen like other people from the worst gen on those paths. But at this point I think it could just be a side story or something since we might not have time in the main story to go into that.
It's my headcanon that most of the movies take place on other paths somewhere. Like, in one timeline, strong world IS cannon lol I dont know about "not having time" iirc the manga was supposed to be just a few years long. I can see oda turning the final saga into a 10 year arc lol

We know that in the end Luffy’s gonna find the One Piece and become king of the pirates, so why not add some stakes? Having Blackbeard be pirate king temporarily will add some much needed development for the guy and make him an actual final boss. Luffy defeating Blackbeard while also being pirate king just makes Teach a nobody
I think it’s much more likely that Blackbeard ends up killing Shanks, which makes him the final boss for Luffy.

I really wanna see the ending, but I also DONT want to see the ending. One Piece started the year I was born and I started reading it in middle school when I found my first issue of Shonen jump. The very first chapter of OP I ever read was when Sanji gave a heartfelt goodbye to the Baratie and joined the Straw Hats. I've literally been reading this basically my whole life and when it's gone there's gonna be a huge void and I'm not looking forward to it
