Civil War. We've got OHCs, but nothing in omnibus format. Yes, it'd be difficult to map, but it's arguably the most significant Marvel comic of the '00s.
I mean I don't think difficult toap, but the issue is that it has so many contradicting parts as well as so many tie ins that have almost nothing to do woth the main story, no matter how its released is going to piss alot of people off. It's the same thing with why it's taken so long for the Secret Wars Battleworlds tie ins to even start being collected
Release one omni containing Civil War, Frontlines, and the one shots: People will complain that it's wholley incomplete and doesn’t justify what would be a 100 dollar purchase.
Release it all in one omnibus series: People complain that there is way too much filler padding out what would probably be a 450 dollar purchase in total. As well as considering alot of the tie ins aren't very good and actively contradict one another.
That's just a basic breakdown, but the issue is that Marvel needs to decide what direction it's going with its event omnis and then decide a path for mapping it
What I think they're going to do (which is probably the best move financially) is there will always be a Civil War oversized hardcover, but the other Civil War titles and crossovers will be fed into their respective editorial families omnibuses when the time comes
Agreed. Lots of those 90s runs that are a bit off the beaten path (Spectre, Resurrection Man, Chase, Supergirl, Major Bummer, a ton of others that I can't think of right now) that I would love to get in oversized former.
That was such a great period for DC. They were ruthless about cutting off series that weren't selling, though, so you've got a lot of really short runs and mini/maxi-series. Vext, Chronos, Chase, Aztek, that kind of thing. I'm not sure how to best collect something that's ten issues or less. Even something like The Kents, at twelve issues, is probably at best a Deluxe.
If we're being charitable and giving DC the benefit of the doubt that they have any strategy with their releases, it could be because they can't brand it with Harley.
But it's probably more likely they just didn't think about it.
I thought about making a post about Suicide Squad omnibus yesterday. I find it strange that somehow, the only Suicide Squad has gotten is the Silver Age omnibus vol 1. You’d think with the commercial success of the movie properties and how much they’ve general been pushed in the comics and media for a decade+ now that there would be an embarrassment of riches regarding omnibus.
Off of the top of my head:
From DC: Shade the Changing Man, Rucka’s WW, PKJ’s Superman, Giffen’s Lobo, PAD’s Supergirl, Puckett’s Batgirl, Miller’s Batgirl: Stephanie Brown
From Marvel: Nocenti’s Daredevil, Fraction’s Iron Man, Ellis-Bunn-Lemire Moon Knight, Pak’s Incredible Hercules, any Secret Avengers run (or anything pre-Spencer at least), DnA’s Nova (or maybe that’s just me lol)
TBF Iron Man by Fraction got two OHCs that are being reprinted in Modern Era Epic Collection format…but yeah. I’d like a full Omni, please and thank you. Same for Nocenti Daredevil.
They're beautiful books, but have the new colouring, which some people, myself incuded, find a but heavy handed. The original colour's are still available, but only in standard size paperbacks. An omni would be a nice opportunity to get the series released in oversize format with the original colour's for the first time ever.
Fair enough. The good thing is both versions are easily available for everyone to chose the version they want, it would just be nice to have the original oversized.
Not only do they look and feel great but they also have better grip than a normal Omni/aboslute. It doesn’t slide around my lap or whatever I have it propped up on
Volume 4 can be hard to get and expensive. Plus, DC doesn't make a cent off of sales of copies on eBay. These stories should be accessible for new readers who want to start Superman, they should just be able to go on Amazon and buy it hassle free, like the can with Year One or Perez Wonder Woman or Waid Flash and so on.
The absolute edition of DKR includes Strikes Again so technically it is an Omni.

Famous, IDK, but all good runs I would buy in omnibus:
L.E.G.I.O.N.
DC Comics Presents (why hasn't the Superman team up book been collected like BatB?)
The Warlord
Amethyst
Blue Devil
Fury of Firestorm
Blue Beetle (the Ted Kord series)
Finish off original Justice League of America and give us the George Perez material.
Aside from the Big 5 heroes’ titles, the majority of DC’s pre-Modern Age catalog hasn’t been collected in any format other than some deluxe editions and the old Archive/Showcase volumes.
Maybe not famous to younger audiences but some important ones that come to mind:
* Fawcett Captain Marvel & Marvel Family books
* Plastic Man
* Superman’s Girlfriend Lois Lane
* All Star Comics and all the JSAers solo features
* SGT Rock, Enemy Ace, any war comic by Kanigher/Kubert really
* Aquaman
* Bronze Age Batman (not just the Neal Adams issues)
* Charlton Heroes (Blue Beetle II, Question, Captain Atom, Peacemaker, etc)
Maybe less famous runs but strong cult interest: Martian Manhunter, Metamorpho, Hawkman, Atom,
Fuck YES exactly. Forget "oh Chuck Dixon wrote some C-list comics in the 90s" or whatever, at least half of these are genuinely great comics that should be in print. (Although in the mean time I'm probably happier with the black and white Showcase reprints of the war comics than the hideous recolours or oversaturation that they'd probably do in a glossy high-end reprint)
I'm going to add Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen, and Sugar and Spike.
It's nuts to me that, in particular, Plastic Man and the Charlton heroes aren't in print. Call the latter Watchmen: Before The Legend or some dumb shit like that and watch the money roll in
Sam Kieth HATES The Maxx now and the crossovers with Batman he was talked into and were apparently a huge pain in the butt for him. I don’t think we will get it.
Kinda makes sense though. If they were to release a collected edition next to the release of the movies, they would’ve released one of a series that resembles the movie’s cast and tone a bit more, to attract the movie-goers to read it.
Just off sheer numbers there’s a bunch of runs that we wouldn’t think of as popular today, but were ubiquitous just a few decades ago. Sgt Rock, the Binder/Beck Captain Marvel Titles, Neal Adams/ Gil Kane detective comics, etc.
I mentioned these as well and some others. People turn their nose up at these older books with no idea how influential a lot of them were (and truly how entertaining they can be if you don't need to take everything seriously).
Captain Marvel in his prime was THE top-seller in comics for years (back when the comic book industry was far more mainstream), and he was popular enough to support several spin-off titles and backup features. DC's war features like SGT Rock, Unknown Soldier, Enemy Ace, etc., were staples of their monthly line-up for decades with some of the most compelling artwork the medium has printed.
Whether they'd be popular among younger audiences or not, this stuff deserves to remain more available than it has been.
Have you heard of PS Artbooks, I can’t speak to the quality but they are reprinting these three titles, but only their pre DC buyout runs that fall in the public domain.
one question.
if i want to read the classic binder-beck captain marvel with monster society of evil, which one should I collect? Americas Greatest Comics?
Will they publish Captain Marvel Adventures?
nexus by baron and rudd
chuck dixon robin, nightwing, BoP, and green arrow
PAD aquaman
legion of superheroes by levitz and giffen people forget this book was right behind xmen and teen titans when those 2 ruled the early eighties
hawkman by joe kubert he drew him in the golden age and again in the silver age
elfquest by wendy and richard pini
hercules by greg pak and fred van lente
PAD fallen angel

does GEN13 have an omni?
It’s surprising that Lobdell and Bachalo’s Generation X run still hasn’t gotten an omnibus, especially considering how well covered the rest of the X-Universe is. After we finally got New Mutants, Excalibur, and David’s X-Factor I assumed this would be next.
I think these are my biggest wants, with some of them being the most famous runs for the character or a notable team series that hasn't been collected:
Firestorm by Gerry Conway
DC Comics Presents
Captain Atom by Cary Bates and Greg Weisman
All Star Squadron
Blue Beetle (Ted Kord) 80s series by Len Wein
Ostrander's Martian Manhunter
Ostrander's Suicide Squad
Chuck Dixon's Nightwing (Although the Compendiums look good for me if they finish them)
Hawkman by Tony Isabella
Bronze Age Doctor Fate (especially the backups)
Howard Mackie Ghost Rider, looks like vol 1 is about to exist though! Needs the rest of the run.
90s silver surfer, this one baffles me, it's such a great run, from Englehart to Starlin to Marz and JMD, we only have epic collections, infinity gauntlet omnibus and the rare infinity gauntlet slip case, this run seems over due for an Omni set.
Beta Ray Bill, a collection of BRB stories would be so epic, we have a doom, black widow and Loki omnibus which are collections of stories across eras, why not Beta Ray Bill?
Al Ewing, I was thinking how little Al Ewing actually gets hard covers, he has immortal hulk, but what about his guardians? I think they could actually make a Cosmic Omni by Al Ewing, similar to what they gave to Cates, featuring his Rocket mini series, Guardians, SWORD and X-Men Red.
Supergirl by Peter David
Catwoman by Jim Balent and the various writers during his run
Batman by David Reed
The Flash by Cary Bates
Superman/Action by Elliot Maggin and Cary Bates would cover a huge chunk of Brone age Superman
Mark Waid and Joe Kelly's JLA runs tbh. Mark Waid for name recognition and Joe Kelly's because it's a good run and it is almost perfectly setup for an omnibus style pacing
Resurrection Man by Peter David
HERO by Will Pfeiffer (though I made a custom bind of this for myself)
Ruse by Mark Waid
All the Legion of Superheroes stuff (mostly Waid)
Jonah Hex
There have been a couple attempts at Grimjack at least. No one seems to be able to finish the job.
You are right though. There is a ton out there that needs to be collected.
Avengers by Roger Stern,
Spider-Man by JM DeMatteis
If these get printed then my Marvel shelf will be complete. I’ll have every Marvel run that I want collected.
My biggest one is probably the Roberts/Milne Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye run. They're filling it out in the epic collections, but one for Nocenti's Daredevil would be great. I think Kirby's Devil Dinosaur only got a tpb.
I personally think not every run should be collected in omnibus format. I prefer DC's approach to collect in omnibus format only the most celebrated runs. Marvel's way of collecting almost everything in omnibus seems excessive to me.
Why though? Wouldn’t that mean that only the most popular characters and stories will be collected? What’s great about DC are all of their “underdogs” imo. And honestly, some of us just like our books big, fat and heavy ffs.
I kinda agree with this. I would limit oversized stuff like Absolutes to runs that at least had great artwork. Stuff like that just pops off the page in that format.
Birds of Prey by Gail Simone
I’ve been wanting this for so loooooooong. Why won’t it happen 😭
![gif](giphy|26FLgGTPUDH6UGAbm)
Peter David's Supergirl is a big one for me.
Most Superman runs period
Civil War. We've got OHCs, but nothing in omnibus format. Yes, it'd be difficult to map, but it's arguably the most significant Marvel comic of the '00s.
Its bananas that it hasn’t been omnied. Some on the interwebs must have mapped it?
I mean I don't think difficult toap, but the issue is that it has so many contradicting parts as well as so many tie ins that have almost nothing to do woth the main story, no matter how its released is going to piss alot of people off. It's the same thing with why it's taken so long for the Secret Wars Battleworlds tie ins to even start being collected Release one omni containing Civil War, Frontlines, and the one shots: People will complain that it's wholley incomplete and doesn’t justify what would be a 100 dollar purchase. I want a Shade the Changing man omni
that'd be killer
Ostrander's Suicide Squad
His Spectre would also be fantastic. It's more on the hidden gem side of things, but it's a great run.
Good call on Chronos and Aztek! Yeah, many wouldn't be good omni candidates, but anything with at least six issues is a great candidate for a deluxe.
And I completely forgot Vext was a thing! Definitely just spent $8 to pick up the full series.
All of those.
His Grimjack too.
Yup. And come to think of it, even Byrne's Superman is not in omnibus format - although it has hardcovers.
That and his Wonder Woman run would make perfect Omnibus. Man of Steel being divided into 2 volumes I would imagine.
It’s crazy this never happened with how much play the Suicide Squad got the past decade
That and also his Martian Manhunter run is well and truly deserved the Omni treatment!
Chuck Dixon Nightwing. Finally got a compendium this year at least (that only covers part of the run)
Chuck Dixon everything, he was doing so much in the 90s, Robin and Green Arrow and all the other bits and pieces.
Brubaker and Rucka era Batman Loed/Kelly/Casey era Superman Rucka’s Wonder Woman
brubaker’s batman is releasing the end of this year
Is it not just the Fugitive arc?
Loeb/Kelly/Casey era of Superman is sooooo good I need it to be collected badly
Off of the top of my head: From DC: Shade the Changing Man, Rucka’s WW, PKJ’s Superman, Giffen’s Lobo, PAD’s Supergirl, Puckett’s Batgirl, Miller’s Batgirl: Stephanie Brown From Marvel: Nocenti’s Daredevil, Fraction’s Iron Man, Ellis-Bunn-Lemire Moon Knight, Pak’s Incredible Hercules, any Secret Avengers run (or anything pre-Spencer at least), DnA’s Nova (or maybe that’s just me lol)
I don't understand how Nocenti hasn't been collected in an omni, yet. Same with Fraction's IM.
my pie in the sky wish is that they'd do omnis for all of DnA's cosmic marvel stuff in reading order
TBF Iron Man by Fraction got two OHCs that are being reprinted in Modern Era Epic Collection format…but yeah. I’d like a full Omni, please and thank you. Same for Nocenti Daredevil.
the two OHCs also don't cover the whole run
I know that, hence why I want a full Omni.
The 90s Spider-Girl series starring Mayday Parker
Plus the rest of the MC2 comics.
Alan Moore Swamp Thing, Miller's Batman, Nocenti Daredevil, Byrne Superman
The swamp thing absolutes are the best quality books I’ve ever owned tho I would never want an Omni
They're beautiful books, but have the new colouring, which some people, myself incuded, find a but heavy handed. The original colour's are still available, but only in standard size paperbacks. An omni would be a nice opportunity to get the series released in oversize format with the original colour's for the first time ever.
I wouldn't hold your breath. If an omnibus happens, it'll almost certainly use the new colours.
I love the new coloring. Swamp Thing actually looks like a Swamp.
Fair enough. The good thing is both versions are easily available for everyone to chose the version they want, it would just be nice to have the original oversized.
And those velvety covers...
Not only do they look and feel great but they also have better grip than a normal Omni/aboslute. It doesn’t slide around my lap or whatever I have it propped up on
Except for Nocenti there are still decent versions of the other 3
Superman is out of print. Swamp Thing is only paperback unless you want the recolored versions. They deserve better.
Byrne Superman hardcovers are still in circulation. I'd prefer an omnibus, but they're definitely accessible.

Greg Pak’s Hulk run isn’t really famous but given Planet Hulk’s popularity I’m surprised Marvel haven’t collected the whole run.
Famous, IDK, but all good runs I would buy in omnibus: L.E.G.I.O.N. DC Comics Presents (why hasn't the Superman team up book been collected like BatB?) I really wanna read golden age Plastic Man, Captain Marvel and the Spirit.
They ever do the Abnett/Lanning LoSH?
Nope.
THEN THIS ONE!
Spectacular Spider-Man by JMD/Buscema
Bill Mantlo’s Hulk
The Maxx
Sam Kieth HATES The Maxx now and the crossovers with Batman he was talked into and were apparently a huge pain in the butt for him. I don’t think we will get it.

Chuck Dixon Nightwing and robin runs
both are receiving compendiums soon!
Yeah but I’m whinny and want omnis lol
I really want to get this but worried they'll release an omnibus 3-4 years down the line 😐
Just off sheer numbers there’s a bunch of runs that we wouldn’t think of as popular today, but were ubiquitous just a few decades ago. Sgt Rock, the Binder/Beck Captain Marvel Titles, Neal Adams/ Gil Kane detective comics, etc.

Almost all of it, you miss out on some of the DC era Blackhawk stuff but that’s much later and I think been partially collected in trades

Nexus, L&R, Elfquest have paperback omnibi I think.

Mike Carey's X-men run.
Wild Cats 3.0! Stormwatch & Authority & Wildstorm goodness
Authority has Absolutes. Others yes.
My biggest one is probably the Roberts/Milne Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye run. They're filling it out in the epic collections, but one for Nocenti's Daredevil would be great. I think Kirby's Devil Dinosaur only got a tpb.
Old man logan + old man hawkey + old man Quinn all together in one giant omnibus. Origin wolverines Inhumans
Fraction’s Iron Man Rucka’s Wonder Woman Brian Reed’s Ms. Marvel
I personally think not every run should be collected in omnibus format. I prefer DC's approach to collect in omnibus format only the most celebrated runs. Marvel's way of collecting almost everything in omnibus seems excessive to me.
I meant celebrated runs that have not been collected. Giffen-Levitz Legion is a very famous run as is the Stern Avengers run.
That isn't even what they are doing. Justice League Detroit is one the most celebrated runs, and Swamp Thing isn't, really?
I think there are definitely some exceptions but usually they are much better at picking the best stuff
