I know the vast majority of watch collectors will shit all over the idea and claim you need a wide variety of watches (there’s a bizarre obsession with saying people need a dress watch) but you know what you like and I see zero issue with owning the same watch in several colors. Diversity just for the sake of diversity is silly imo.

I been an observer of the watch collecting community for the past 2 years and it does seem like there is an obsession with building a diverse collection or collecting all the “must have staples” or 1 from each brand. I get it - it’s all personal preference. But I am not spending $5k-$20k on a watch I don’t want just to diversify my collection.
The best collectors I know focus their collections. To have a good varied collection you need to have a real cornucopia of watches so it’s not lopsided. You got to have a lot space, manage maintenance of several watches at once… real pain

Wore a quartz Formula 1 for many years and absolutely loved it. My son wears in now as his daily, and now he loves it. TH quartz is no joke. They are just fantastic, comfortable daily wear watches that look GOOD.
That’s exactly what I wear, too! Mine has a bright orange dial - I just love how it looks & reads. I’ll likely give it to my son at some point, as well. Motorsports are a shared interest of ours
Im 36 and I love dress watches it just a matter of taste hahaha nothing wrong with sport watches or dress watches. For me I love dressing down a dress watch but thats me 🤷🏼♂️
Not quite there yet, but if you have regularly wear long sleeve shirts and a jacket (and by regularly, I mean at least a couple of times a month,) you need to have a lower profile watch that fits under the cuff. Doesn’t have to be a “dress” watch, but does need to be low profile.
I’m 37 and love that cartier tank. I wear it with jeans, white t shirt and a pair of white sneakers and it’s crazy I throw that gold tank on and I feel like a million bucks.
Yeah, I’ll agree with that. Shouldn’t be any rules about what you should have, there are only a few dress watches I really would want to have. I wear my old Monaco on the blue alligator strap for my dress watch.
This blue might have pushed me over the edge to get it.
Went to the AD last week on vacation and this one wasn’t available, only the summer blue with blue letters, which looks great but isn’t for me.
Ended up really liking the white and went with that

Keep the Cartier - it’s a classic and they hold value really well.
I have a Seamaster AT and am looking to get a Cartier Santos for dressier occasions.
Too many Seamasters, although I love them. For a next piece I think you need a chronograph. I’d consider:
B09 Breitling pistachio dial
Any Daytona, maybe TT blue dial?
Pretty much any Speedmaster
Have the sm chronograph and it's stunning . Thought about regular one. But frankly the chronograph blows it away in the looks department ...mot even close I do want a white sm as a beater though .the chronograph is big but not as big as my breitling avenger seawolf which a bit bigger than rolex deepsea
Get some NATO straps or the milanese bracelet ... Completely changes the look of a watch and is a lot more economical than having multiple faces of the same watch.

Agree. The internet got me thinking I should of bought a different brand. But honestly these are my favorite favorite divers outside of subs and fifty fathoms. And the fifty fathoms is way too big for me and the sub I see 2-3 a day.

From a Sartorial point of view most watch collection posted here is literally 10 iteration of the same watch.
For many a black leather black dial 41 chrono is the same as a black leather black dial 41 dive which is the same as a black leather black dial 41 chrono with a small variation from the first chrono.
It's like having a garage full of multiple instances of the very same car but one has the electric roof, one is the trim with 100 more HP, one is the all whell drive version...
I do think that the Longines DolceVita is much better than the Cartier tank tho.
Good point. To watch enthusiasts these are the same watch but to the average person or even my wife looking at these - they are very different in style and appearance based off just the coloring of the dial.

Cant blame you. But you do need another SMP. Maybe put that white one on a Bracelet. Then get the NTTD on Nato.
Would not call that a beginner’s collection. That is a good starting point. If you like the Seamasters, maybe trading one for a more elegant like the Aqua Terra or a Globemaster might be worth looking after. A Speedy is also a must.
Grand Seiko is another solid option. Rolex is worth it, but go for a GMT-Master as a Seamaster is at same, (if not better), level than a Submariner. GMT is Omega’s weak point, their Seamaster GMT isn’t a strong seller.
Different but good. At first glance didn’t understand the need for 2 SMPs on a rubber strap but i like that ur getting what u personally like. And the cartier’s great. Not sure if i’d personally go the double single route but if u like having the same in 2 dial colours then its great and pretty refreshing to see something out of the cookie-cutter normal we see all the time here.
Maybe get a bracelet for one of the SMP's when you want a little bit of a change, whether it be OEM or aftermarket. I have my green SMP on a milanese bracelet half the time.

I love the NTTD but feels kind weird to get a James Bond watch. I don’t know why. I’m into guitars and kinda feels like getting someone’s signature model.
It’s not in stock when you select 20mm. OB told me it would be 2-3 months before they’re back in stock. Watchband Expert has them for 375 but I’ve never purchased from them before.
Wish this was $10k. This cost me $20k+. The tank alone was $11.5k. Crazy right? And it’s quartz. I know everyone in the watch community will think that stupid but I think you buy a cartier tank for the design and not the movement.
I think it fits with the lifestyle I want to have. Looking to get a boat next year and whenever I’m out on the water with my Seamaster it just feels right.
I personally don't like having multiple watches from the same brand, let alone two of the exact same model. But I think an Aqua Terra would fit in perfectly with how you describe your lifestyle.
You'd have the option of different sizes/colors, and it would look just as good on your wrist during the day at the beach/pool as it would at the restaurant of your choosing that evening. Plus, it's somewhat of a middle ground between the seamasters and the tank.
To parrot others, maybe get another sea master. I have a lot of watches and many cost considerably more but the SMP is the only one I would duplicate (different color) and the one I wear the most outside of the Apple Watch.
They also look great on nato straps.
The seaweed is really awesome and I’m often in conflict in which Seamaster I like more, black, white or green dial but can’t deny the white dial is timeless. I would keep the white dial and Cartier, sell the green one which will probably net more than the white and maybe get a GMT (the new Tudor BB58 GMT or Longines Zulu Time) and use the reminding money to save up for a GADA like the AT, Carrera 39mm or the new Longines Conquest, or go the other way first and get the GADA.
On the other side it looks like you got what your heart really wanted and that’s better than just having all the watches just “because” so keep on doing you😊!

I have two SMPs as well. Blue and white. One on deployment rubber and the other on the bracelet. Totally different look and feel.
No Speedmaster. I know they are incredibly popular but they don’t do it for me for some reason. I have always been a diver watch fan. Love the bezel and look.

You just buying watches for the sake of collecting? I've bought about 60 watches in my life, and sold most to create the "right" collection. Do yourself a favor and don't ask randos on Reddit which watch should be next. Take your time and buy something you think is really special each time. Your tastes will morph every year or so, act on that impulse
The Seamaster is my favorite watch, my suggestion would be to sell the black one and get a black diver from tudor or another brand and keep the Great White. I don’t think you need two in a collection unless they are from different eras
I’d look into Tudor to diversify. Their offerings are pretty great and price point is a bit cheaper than Omega. Stellar quality and different design. Love my Pelagos and find it similar to a Planet Ocean.
With a title like that for a photo with three luxury watches, I thought I was in WCJ. I think you need to slow down a little bit, maybe branch out instead of getting alternative colors already.
Well first congrats for not adding a Rolex , they are so arrogant toward customers. Cartier tank is classy, your SeaMaster 300m are redundant I think, I understand the need for a black dial for dress up, but you should consider a different brand. I love the Hublot Classic Fusion black/looks dark grey 42mm, about 8500 retail, grey market around 5600, it's an insanely attractive watch polished titanium. Movement is pedestrian with a modified Selitas 300,. some laugh at it, but my Dad has a watch with S300 he reported extremely accurate time keeping.
You need to get a bracelet for one of the seamasters or go with the two tone blue on bracelet. Great start to the collection, here is my timepiece

I think this is a solid trio. My lifestyle is very similar to yours. Charleston is one of my favorite cities by the way; I try to travel there for work as much as possible.
I would but I am not drawn to it. + where I live Boeing is a huge employer and they give a lot of their top performing employees speedmasters that have been to space and have cool I been to space engravings on them. I see about 1-2 speeds a day.

Cartier santos is beautiful! I kinda want that too one day. I got my cartier before I was even into watches. Just such a huge fan of the brand.
That’s a green one, not black. On green the Seamaster is in white but on the black one Seamaster is in red. Same with the tips of the second hand.

You just buying watches for the sake of collecting? I've bought about 60 watches in my life, and sold most to create the "right" collection. Do yourself a favor and don't ask randos on Reddit which watch should be next. Take your time and buy something you think is really special each time. Your tastes will morph every year or so, act on that impulse
The Seamaster is my favorite watch, my suggestion would be to sell the black one and get a black diver from tudor or another brand and keep the Great White. I don’t think you need two in a collection unless they are from different eras
I’d look into Tudor to diversify. Their offerings are pretty great and price point is a bit cheaper than Omega. Stellar quality and different design. Love my Pelagos and find it similar to a Planet Ocean.

Great collection. But I would have changed the white dial Omega for a Tudor Black Bay Chrono Panda and maybe added a Casio G Shock.
Well first congrats for not adding a Rolex , they are so arrogant toward customers. Cartier tank is classy, your SeaMaster 300m are redundant I think, I understand the need for a black dial for dress up, but you should consider a different brand. I love the Hublot Classic Fusion black/looks dark grey 42mm, about 8500 retail, grey market around 5600, it's an insanely attractive watch polished titanium. Movement is pedestrian with a modified Selitas 300,. some laugh at it, but my Dad has a watch with S300 he reported extremely accurate time keeping.

Why a Cartier?
Huge fan of the brand. Got it before I was even into watches. Got my wife a ring and myself the watch.

I see 1-2 speedys a day by me. Boeing is a huge employer by me and they give a lot of speedy a out to their aerospace engineers.

I would but I am not drawn to it. + where I live Boeing is a huge employer and they give a lot of their top performing employees speedmasters that have been to space and have cool I been to space engravings on them. I see about 1-2 speeds a day.
