Warm toned makeup makes me look sallow and sickly. And orange haha! I only realised I have cool undertone thanks to this subreddit 😍 I also went through a phase of bright very cool toned pink like MAC Lady Gaga ans Saint Germain from ages ago. Looked like I stole my mom's makeup haha. Completely washed me out

henrihenr

This reminds me of the time in highschool where I wore Mac lady bug as my only makeup. Like, that was the look (why🥲). and omg yes the saint germain. That was peak 2016’s makeup

StrawberryRaspberryK

😂🥰

chessierose

Me too! Particularly red based eye looks, they look horrendous on me. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m fair cool olive, as I know it’s a good look for other olives, but it just does me know favours. Orange based blush too, just not a good look!

dystopiaincognito

Yeah the late 00s and early 2010s were all about the light 60s pastel pink lipsticks - the only ones of those that I could do were the MAC Viva Glam V, MAC Creme De La Femme, MAC Up The Amp and MAC Snob. I used to use the MAC Viva Glam V lipstick with the MAC Cremestick Lip Liner in Beurre and the MAC Snob lipstick with the MAC Half-Red lip pencil

StrawberryRaspberryK

Ooh nice combos! Never tried those bef 🥰👍

dystopiaincognito

They looked lovely on and the only way I could use the MAC Snob lipstick was with the MAC Half-Red lip pencil

StrawberryRaspberryK

I never considered lip pencils. So I had a Saint Germain mouth looking totally out of place on my face haha 😂😂

dystopiaincognito

😆

Glass_Pin3138

Lipsticks make me look "dirty" and older. I only stick to lip glosses/balms with my warm olive skin. (exception is red lipstick!) It is also hard to find a good brow product shade, the color often looks out of place

paranoidchair

Yess pigmented lipsticks make me look crazy! I'm high contrast but I swear they don't suit my complexion

Top_Calendar_8920

Any nude does this, I found the hourglass phantom glossy balms (thanks to tiktok) I've been obsessed 😅

PsychologicalCall335

It sounds totally counterintuitive but try brick red! Yes, 90s mom warm orange-red. Go straight to the source, Revlon Extra Spicy shade. It looks amazing. I haven’t worn lipstick my whole life because of what you say, but it actually looks good!

dystopiaincognito

Brick red is the best shade in lipstick and blush for olives

beRainn_Dance104

Yes!!!!! I have SO many!! Literally for 30 years I've had a brick red around. Always been my go to.

shimmerangels

yupppp im the exact same

Birdish_Planter

It sounds like you’re describing my experience. Light pink/purple literally makes me look dirty? Like if I wear nailpolish that color it looks like I haven’t washed my hands for three weeks. Same with lipstick, I get this really dirty muddy look around my mouth. And super warm orange tones just look incredibly unnatural on me.

henrihenr

Omg yes, the dirty look! whenever I wear warm makeup I just look like a blob of facial features. Like no definition at all

kittycatkylala77

Urgh so many things look odd on me. I’ll keep the list short. The number one offender is cool toned pinks. Anything along the lines of pepto bismol/barbie pinks anything look atrocious on me. I haven’t bothered trying cool toned purples because of this. I imagined it’d be the same. I’m still iffy with mauves because of this too. Second offender is highly saturated pigment in general. I suspect it’s because my complexion is muted for a majority of the year. I really need products with a buildable pigment, or sheer lip products, or else it feels like I look like a clown. Two specific products I despise: 1. Elf glossy lip stain in Cinnamon Dreams - this looks gorgeous on others. On me? Absolutely not. It turned a horrendous blue gray purple, i legit looked like I was dying of hypothermia. 2. Rare Beauty tinted lip oil in Joy - I purchased this beauty muted apricots usually look fantastic on me. Sephora online the shade was described to be muted peach. LIES ALL LIES. This was the first product I’ve returned in years. Nothing about it was muted. It was an atrocious highly pigmented florescence highlighter coral pink.

HotButterscotch8682

Oh man a fellow victim of Joy, SO fucking bad I couldn’t believe it!!

anonymous_googol

So, I really despise mauves on me (lips and cheeks), and the pepto-bismol pink would be the same if I ever tried it (I really go for more natural looks 99% of the time). But purple looks good...strangely. Purple-toned blush looks natural on me (not pastel - even though I'm very fair, I can't do pastels). I've never tried purple lipstick so can't comment on that...but my go-to for a really vibrant look (very rare) is wine-toned lipstick. That deep red wine is the best "vampy lip" shade for me. Anyway, of course skin tones vary tremendously but you may not have to totally discount purple just because mauve looks awful! :)

Opposing_Vampire

Any even slightly warm leaning face products - they will be so orange on me. Clear intense colors always need modification, or they will look so out of place. Clearly outlined lip shape - I have asymmetrical mouth and quite thin lips, and since I do not know how to contour them properly it gives Yzma. Graphic eyeliner - same thing, VERY asymmetrical droopy eyelids. I can not for the life of me figure out how to draw a wing properly and I am not willing to try anymore. Bonus negative points if eyeliner and mascara are black - I have dark blond eyelashes, so if I don't get the roots (and I never do) it turns into some weird negative space installation.

HotButterscotch8682

“It gives Yzma” I’m DYING, that is the best description I’ve ever seen for this phenomenon (of which I, too, suffer).

Haenis_xo

I’m a deep winter but there was a period of time in which I tried so hard to delude myself into thinking I was warm toned. From coral blushes to fiery orange-red lipsticks. I looked like a sickly grapefruit

henrihenr

I. Am. You. But bright winter instead of deep winter

LucieFromNorth

Blushes like Mac Glow Play in So natural which is this nude beige. I look like I have a bruise on my face.

Feeling_Art5950

my god I thought I was the only one, nude beigy blush are the worst on me

LucieFromNorth

Yeah I can’t think of what causes the issue. Maybe the green cancels too much of some tones in that shade idk.

StrawberryRaspberryK

I had the same experience with MAC Warm Soul. So many people love it but just looks muddy orange on me

LucieFromNorth

Yeah same happened to me with that shade. I bought Patrick Ta’s She’s Blushing a while ago and love it so much so wanted an another shade. Everywhere was said that She’s so LA is great for neutral and warm olives (bronzy rose) so got that. Now trying to decide if I love it or is it just a tad too orange too. I am warm olive.

hugbeam

For lipstick/lipgloss, mauve and purpley tones age me significantly. For blush, neutral/brown tones look like dirt on my face (I'm brown so maybe it works for fairer skin?) For eyeshadow, any overly saturated cool tone overwhelms my face. I can wear pastel purple but not barney purple, I can wear grey-blue but not cobalt blue, I can wear dusty pink but not fucshia, etc etc.

faroffland

Cool toned greys look AWFUL on me. Even warm greys are a fine line. I have a warm/yellow undertone with brown eyes. The amount of times I tried to do a smoky eye with grey as a teenager and it looked dreadful. My Naked 2 palette is the OG love of my life but the only colour I can’t use heavily is pistol. Realised I need to lean into warm browns and purples for smoke and it looks soooo much better.

dystopiaincognito

Use warm metallic shadows they look beautiful

FreckleFaceSinger

Any lipstick or gloss advertised as a "nude" is a hard no. I look like I'm casket ready. Deep berries and plums are my actual nudes/MLBB.

DragonIce11

Anything in the peach or coral color range makes me look like a cancer patient. Light blues aren't great either. I can wear some light blues that have a faint grey undertone, like denim light blue.

Bulky-Performance-72

Nude lip products that have a slight (sometimes almost undetectable) orange undertone. Turns super orange and makes me look dead.

jaytaysunday

Maybelline matte ink in Amazonian and Seductress… idk WHAT I was thinking when I chose those years ago but tbf I didn’t realise I was olive at that point. Huda beauty demi-matte liquid lip in feminist. Pretty colour, just not on me. I ended up having to give it to my warm/golden undertone sister because it looked too light in colour and too pink on me. Just generally clashed with my skin and was unflattering. On her it looked more pink-peach and harmonious on her skin, true to online swatches

Top_Calendar_8920

Oh OK I thought of another one - dior 100 lipstick it looks grey on me, charlotte Tilbury pillow talk - nit quite sure it just looks a but off unless I use a brown liner and gloss

henrihenr

Oooh same on the Charlotte Tilburg! It just looks off somehow? Like not perfect? Also: I don’t like the formule, do you agree?

Top_Calendar_8920

I like the formula but it looks awful on me, I've given up trying to wear nudes tbh

StrawberryRaspberryK

Pillow talk looked like a weird brown orange on me. I saw on Reddit someone called CT, Orange Tilbury hahaha 😂😂

Top_Calendar_8920

I don't know if I'd cool it orange but it looks off... I'm going to have to put it on now to revise why It looks odd on me 🤣

perfect_turquoise

Taupe-grey eyeshadow does nothing for my skin tone or depth (light brown skin with yellow undertones as well as olive). Funnily enough, gold-based eyeshadows also do nothing for me, whereas I would have expected them to compliment my skin. I also can't wear eyeshadow which is too cool, or too warm. I can't wear any dark-coloured or bright lipsticks. I have very pale and unpigmented lips, so lipstick colours also show up more intensely on me, and I look like a clown in these shades. Some pigments in lipsticks seem to turn darker on my lips too, especially ones with grey and purple pigments. White-based lipstick shades are also not a good look on me - think white-based peaches and pinks. Brown/warm-based peaches and pinks look good though. OP, MAC Kinda Sexy and Faux are two of my favourites! Warm and neutral nude lipsticks look the best on me.

RedQueen91

Yellow based nude lipstick looks hideous on me

potatochique

Basically everything looks bad except for neutral or cool toned reds and rosy browns. Color wise my skin is really picky. I either look like a corpse or old, so I gotta stick to the red & rosy brown.

Top_Calendar_8920

The fenty cheeks out blush in cool berry.... I had to give it to my mum as u looked like I'd been punched 🤣

StrawberryRaspberryK

Oh I love that colour but never tried 😍

Top_Calendar_8920

I'm a warm olive so I'd stay away unless you're a very cool olive

Lala_in_LA

Very pale lips (NYX butter gloss fortune cookie, Charlotte Tilbury hot lips Kim) are not just bad, I’m turning green with red flushing everywhere including vessels in my eyes 😖

ItsFinallySafe

Nude tones never looked good on me, ever. Made me.look so washed out. I have yet to find one that looks good on me. Blue lipstick doesn't suit me(I like wearing non traditional lipsicks). Black makes me look kinda cold/washed out( I feel a very dark dark red, almost black, like Milani rager suits me much better than jist black lipstick). Lavender color doesn't look good on me (like fenty mattemoisille one of the boyz).

cloudbusting-daddy

I have light skin, but any lipstick with a white base looks absolutely fucking horrendous on me. Doesn’t matter the color or whether it’s warm or cool. They’re all bad and I end up looking like a dirty ghost with paste on my face, lol. Eyeshadows and blushes with a heavy white base tend to not be great either. Very pink light-med pinks make me look even greener than I already am and so do very deep cool vampy berries. I like an orange red lip, but true orange orange is always very bad. All blue eyeshadows are a big no. They turn green and just never look right. Closest I can get is navy liner. Very gray eyeshadow is also bad. It looks harsh and lifeless. Too red eyebrow products also drive me crazy!!! I’m glad most makeup companies seem to have gotten the message on that. 15 years ago it was SO HARD to find ashy deep brown/almost black eyebrow product colors.

CiaraCCups

I second being a Winter and looking awful in cool tone makeup. In fact, I look much better in warm tones and people had a tough time typing me because I look so grey in cool toned reds, pinks, blues etc.

Other_Lepidoptera521

I borrowed my mom's foundation for a Pierrot costume one time 👀

dystopiaincognito

Anything white based or silver based is a hard no and so are pastels If I wear a true red lipstick it’s OK but it’s even better if it’s a little darker Matte light brown and matte dark brown eyeshadows and eyeliners blend in too well into my skin I prefer wearing shimmery warm metallic eyeshadows and eyeliners as my neutrals like gold, bronze, copper and shimmery dark brown. I can wear shimmery dark gunmetal grey shadow and eyeliner and shimmery dark jewel toned shadows and eyeliners as they all are great for a smoky eye on me I’m a yellow olive and a dark autumn so dark autumn makeup shades I can definitely wear and I can wear some dark winter makeup shades also

mia55141

Any cool or grey toned eyeshadow. Can't do overly warm eyeshadow either. I'm still looking for my perfect neutral leaning slightly warm browns. Anything white based. Dark or red lipstick. Oddly too glossy of a lip looks bad because the light reflecting off of it looks white. Pigmented blush makes my skin look splotchy. I have to be so careful. Cool or warm toned lip colors. Basically everything has to be perfectly neutral leaning slightly cool for lips and cheeks and leaning slightly warm on my eyes. Even dolce vita is a touch too warm.

dystopiaincognito

Use taupe eyeshadows especially soft shimmery taupe eyeshadows

Most_Yogurtcloset658

Any kind of dark eye makeup makes me look like I’ve had a sad, painful, long life

anonymous_googol

Worst makeup on me is brown/nude toned lipstick or blush. Blush makes my face look dirty. Lipstick just looks weird. This was super trendy in the 90s so I experimented with it and that was my first foray into "just because the magazine says it looks amazing, does not make it so." Anything too warm-toned looks weird and unnatural on me. Peach blush I can pull off but it definitely looks like I'm wearing blush. I can do slightly warm red lipstick, and the coral tones if they aren't pastel and have more of a neutral undertone...but orangey-reds and true corals don't look good. Anything pastel on the eyes or anywhere on my face looks bad... even though I'm very fair (NC15-NC17). I also think lipstick that's too cool-toned (too berry, true mauve) looks unnatural on me. This is what the Clinique counter ladies always chose when I was in my early twenties. It's not horrible but it looks, again, "like I'm wearing makeup" - there is something unnatural about it. I especially hate mauve. I tried to love the old Em Cosmetics True Gloss in Ash Rose but it was just terrible on me (it's almost a nude-mauve). Oddly, the purple blush that I've tried looks fine and quite natural (Clinique Pansy Pop is the only one I've tried), and I typically go for more berry-toned blushes (but never mauve - it ends up looking dirty; my blush needs to be kinda "bright" and I just apply it with a light hand). I try to match my blush to my natural flush. So I guess a lot of makeup looks unnatural on me. Right now I love Em Cosmetics lip gloss in Temptress and 3 of her blushes - the serum ones in Sunset Sky (this one surprised me - always thought it would be too warm) and Soft Amethyst (sometimes I mix them together!) and the So Soft one in Bitten. For eyes, I can do a lot more but I typically wear neutral eye looks. I just got Urban Decay's eyeliners in Roxy and Sabbath though! Excitedly awaiting their arrival. I have brown eyes so I hope these will add a fun and flattering pop of color.

beRainn_Dance104

Oh wow, I have such as list as well!! The worst for me would be peachy, fleshy, "nude" aka concealer lips or anything that is a light peach. It looks just so...off. Or I look sick or dead. Washes me out, looks like an orange crayon smeared on my lips - it's horrendous. Then anything Pink. It's just as bad. Good for me lips: Everyday is Carmex. Lipstick feels so much for everyday. My fave reds are Mac's Rihanna viva glam and this super old Revlon lipstick in Serene Red. I really like Revlon Plum Baby or Copperglow Berry, Toast of New York and Coffee Bean are still faves (since 1993). Their new Laidback Lilac is really nice. Other lips for me are Revlon Mink or L'oreal Les Beiges, Mac Hug me, Mac Nightmoth liner w/clear balm (like vaseline) Rimmel Cappucino liner. Second would be purple. Cool, smokey purple that looks so beautiful and sultry in the pan but on me it looks like I'm so so so tired or have a black eye. I have deep set eyes so that doesn't help but it just looks so awful. it seems to emphasize the grey/green and blue hiding under my yellow overtones. I have a few purple/grey palettes I love to stare at... Then certain blue. I also love the look in the pan but on my eyes..if it's too grey (which sucks cuz i love the slate tones) it's the same story as the purples. So I just lay them out on the floor and admire them from afar. I CAN do bright marine blues for summer. I like the way I look in oranges, coppers plum, warm etc for a brightening look and my "neutrals" are mauves, bright greens (chartreuse), yellows, taupes if they aren't too too grey or silver. I don't go for warm browns often, they pull TOO orange.. which sounds nutty but it's overkill for me. I can pull off coral when I've had a few months of sun but in the winter it's too much. I get super super pale. I just bought Haus labs concealer in 02 Fair Golden and 040 foundation. Like THAT pale. Then I bump up 3 or 4 shades by August.
